Stuniverse
Preview -- -- -- -- We've been discussing all week how to approach this UEFA Champions League match and, you know what, we've decided to go to the Spotify Camp Nou and try and play our game. We know we're a good team, we know our style of play brings the best out of our players, so let's go and test ourselves against one of the best club teams in Europe. If Barcelona get away from us early then we may have to make changes but let's see how we get on. Unfortunately we have quite a few injuries to important players so we won't be anywhere close to full strength. -- Expected Line-up Edited April 19 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Tuesday 21st January 2031 Barcelona (Spain) v Viking (Norway) UEFA Champions League -- We decided to go a bit more defensively solid so Isak Amundsen moved out to right-back, Aleksander Liland came in at centre-back for his Viking debut, and Brice Wembangomo went to the bench. -- -- Wow! Just, wow! You go into a match like this knowing Barcelona are a very good team but it's not until you see them close-up, in their own Spotify Camp Nou back yard that you realise just how good they are. What really impressed me was how hard they worked out of possession to get the ball back. Barcelona were all over us from the start and had already hit the post before they scored their first goal after only 13 minutes. They would go on to hit the woodwork three times in total as well as having a goal disallowed. We went more Cautious after that. 2-0 down at the break, we made a couple of substitutions and made a few changes to try and get some attacking momentum. Once it was clear the match had gone, I sent as many of our young players on as I could so that they could experience playing against Barcelona in the Spotify Camp Nou. -- Edited April 19 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Saturday 25th January 2031 Viking Announce Hartveit Ryste Signing -- I'm delighted to finally sign Anders Hartveit Ryste as he's a player we've been tracking for a considerable time. Spoiler This deal has been an ongoing saga if I'm honest with you and, at times, we thought Anders Hartveit Ryste would never become a Viking player. We first made an offer for him two years ago and Odd wanted far more than his market value. We continued to make offers every transfer window since then and each time the fee Odd wanted was more than we were willing to pay. We didn't get much encouragement from the players' agent either as he kept saying Anders wasn't interested in joining us. Then earlier this month, when we were trying to get some of our younger players out on loan, we got feedback that Odds were interested in loaning one of our players but needed to generate some income before they could make a bid. So we went back to Odd and made an offer, a reasonable offer I'd say, and our bid was accepted. We offered Anders a contract but the vibes we were getting from both the player and his agent, even at this advanced stage of negotiations, was less than encouraging. But Anders did sign and we're delighted to finally have him as part of the Viking squad. Anders will go straight into the first team squad and, after that, we'll see. We now have four, if not five very good strikers here. Anders has been capped by Norway at U21 level and, since the World Cup, has been part of Antonio Conte's senior Norway squad although Anders has still to make his senior debut for Norway. Hopefully we can help him get that first Norway cap and many more. I'm sure Anders will settle just fine. We're looking to sign good, young Norwegian players who can contribute to the first team straight away and develop into even better players in the future. Yes, absolutely, although we're always looking to improve the squad. Edited April 19 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Wednesday 29th January 2031 -- -- -- -- We've already guaranteed ourselves a UEFA Champions League Playoff spot, which is great but if we can win against Napoli at home in our SR-Bank Arena, which will be a difficult ask, we could qualify automatically for the knockout stage depending on other results. But we have to win first... and then cross our fingers. We still have a few injury and fitness issues to deal with. -- Expected Line-up
Stuniverse
Wednesday 29th January 2031 Viking (Norway) v Napoli (Italy) UEFA Champions League -- -- -- This Viking team, and this group of players, keep finding new ways to surprise me. We've qualified for the Round of 16 Knockout Phase of the UEFA Champions League, avoiding the Playoffs. Two penalties were enough - Lasse Nordås in the first-half and new signing Anders Hartveit Ryste in the second after coming on as a substitute to make his debut. Oh and a big thank you to PAOK Salonika for their late equaliser at 3-3 to deny Sevilla. --

Stuniverse
Sunday 2nd February 2031 Hartveit Ryste - Let's see how this one plays out... -- Our new signing Anders Hartveit Ryste is expecting an improvement in the club's coaching team. And it seems I've promised to do that... ... although I'm not sure how, or when, I promised that because I excluded it from contract negotiations but, what I did do when asking his agent about whether Hartveit Ryste would be interested in joining Viking, I did say his expectations (which included improve the coaching staff) were acceptable (see quoted post below)... so maybe that's what triggered the promise, not the actual contract negotiations. The problem is though that, with the exception of goalkeeper coaches (which doesn't directly affect Hartveit Ryste as he's a striker), our first team coaching is the Highest in Eliteserien so I don't see the point of tying to improve it, particularly as I like to remain loyal to my backroom staff. A couple of players are unwell, one has a gashed leg, and a couple are short of match fitness. -- -- This was a good run out for us in difficult, snowy conditions in Iceland. Stuniverse
Tuesday 4th March 2031 Sevilla (Spain) v Viking (Norway) UEFA Champions League, Round of 16 first leg -- -- -- I'm so proud of the Viking players today, I can't put into words just how proud I am... but we have to remember the job's not done and we still have to finish the job back in Stavanger in front of our own fans in the SR-Bank Arena. We had to weather an early storm from Sevilla, as we expected, but what I didn't expect was that we'd score from our very first attack, a lovely team passing move ended with Anders Hartveit Ryste putting a low ball into the penalty area and Runar Norheim arrived late in the box to bury it. That incensed Sevilla and they put us under more pressure but we defended magnificently. Yeah, absolutely outstanding, Anders Hartveit Ryste's screamer from 25-yards, that rocketed into the roof of the net, gave us all a lift, gave the the players belief, and they really settled into the game after that. Sevilla pulled a goal back on 36 minutes but we got to half-time with a 2-1 lead. We encouraged the players during the break, made a couple of changes because Isak Amundsen was on a yellow card and Martin Palumbo looked exhausted. We ummed and aaahed about sending Steinar Braathen on because of his inexperience but I'm glad we did because his energy was infectious and he produced late in the second-half, first with the assist for Edvin Austbø and then Steinar rounded things off by scoring our fourth goal. Stuniverse
Preview -- -- We've put ourselves in a great position after winning 4-1 away at Sevilla but we still have a lot of hard work to do in the SR-Bank Arena as we saw first-hand in the first leg just how good a team Sevilla are. Stuniverse
Wednesday 12th March 2031 Viking (Norway) v Sevilla (Spain) UEFA Champions League, Round of 16 second leg (Viking lead 4-1) -- -- -- Just over 15,000 Viking supporters in a SR-Bank Arena attendance of 15,339 and I'm thrilled we were able to put on a show and get the job done in front of our de mørkeblå fans. We stressed the importance of not conceding early but, in my wildest dreams, I never imagined we'd be 3-0 up after quarter of an hour. And we could've scored more as David Møller Wolfe rattled the post from distance midway through the second half. Our captain David Brekalo was one yellow card away from a suspension so we told him to ease off tackles at 3-0 and we substituted him at half-time. We did concede two goals in the last 10+ minutes with a relatively inexperienced back-four on by then but, to be fair, Sergio Aribas's strike for Sevilla's first goal was an absolute world class goal. Our young defenders will have learnt a lot from being on the pitch against players like Aribas and the rest of the Sevilla team. -- Edited April 29 by Stuniverse
