Stuniverse
Episode 31 - 1st June 2025 | "A surprise visit" -- I was just leaving the Alvoen County Mansion bar for my break, when I heard a familiar voice say, "Hi, Stuni, have you got a few minutes?" -- Hedda Berg - football agent -- Stuniverse: Hi Hedda, for you... of course. We walked over to one of the empty tables and sat down. Hedda Berg: Belated congratulations on your promotion. Stuniverse: Thanks, although it seems like a long time ago. It's tough in this division. Hedda Berg: It will be. PostNord-ligaen Avdeling 2 is much stronger this season, than it was last, even Bjarg, who were comfortably mid-table last season, are finding it difficult. Loddefjord are starting to get some results now though, you'll be fine once the squad get used to playing at this level. Stuniverse: Hmmmn. I hope so. Hedda Berg: You don't sound convinced. Stuniverse: It's a lot more difficult than I thought. I've assembled the best squad I could, with the resources available to me, but I'm not sure it's enough. Hedda Berg: Have faith in your abilities, Stuni. You'll be fine. Stuniverse: I'm not sure. I don't think the football club have the finances or resources required to survive at this level. We're losing money every which way and we can't even afford to scout players. Not to mention that it seems like there's no money to pay me either. Hedda Berg: I don't want to say, I told you so, but... Stuniverse: I know, I know, you told me so. Hedda Berg: Seriously, have you given any more thought to what we discussed last time? Stuniverse: Yes. I did. I've thought about it a lot. Hedda Berg: And? Stuniverse: I don't know. I'm torn. I feel an affinity with Loddefjord and I like working with this group of players, even though we're struggling at the moment, but it irks me quite a lot that the Board won't offer me a decent contract and won't fund another coaching course. Hedda Berg: Did you know every other manager in PostNord-ligaen Avdeling 2 is being paid? Some over £1,000 per week. Stuniverse: I did, yes. Hedda Berg: So... Stuniverse: So? Hedda Berg: Shall I put some feelers out and see if there's any chance of getting you a better job, at a bigger club, a job that actually pays you money? Stuniverse: I... I don't know... Hedda Berg: Look, what have you got to lose? Stuniverse: Nothing... I suppose. Hedda Berg: Good. I'll keep my ears open and put in a good word for you. I'll be in touch. Stuniverse: OK. Thank you. Stuniverse
7 hours ago, warlock said: A good plan but... oof! Well, @warlock I’m certainly dispelling the myth that FM24 is easy. What’s the opposite of a football genius? Because that’s me right now. 7 hours ago, warlock said: That was a poor result to concede three goals from 5 shots and an xG of less than 1.0. I know, and that’s my problem, overall (I watch on Extended Highlights) I think we are playing quite well, we are creating chances, but we can’t take them. We hit the post a lot, the opposition goalkeeper makes good saves, but we aren’t ruthless enough. And then, at the other end, we’re conceding too many. 7 hours ago, warlock said: It looks like your players are letting you down as much as the board. I agree with you. I’m probably not helping by chopping and changing my right-back, my centre-backs, and my strikers and wide attackers… but I just can’t get consistently good performances out of any of them. I am thinking, maybe, I should pick 11 players and just stick with them, but there’s not many who are playing well. Problem is, I can’t find anybody better who wants to sign for us. Our scouting budget is in the red, so I can’t scout anybody and the trialists we can attract are no better than the players we already have at the Alvoen Stadion so there’s no point just stockpiling players who are much of a muchness. That said, I do think it’s a strong division at Tier 3 level this season with three second teams who are prohibited from being promoted. Ranheim who are notoriously a Tier 2 / Tier 3 yo-yo side plus a few other teams who, historically, have played Tier 2 recently. Bjarg, who got the same promotion as us the season before (2023) and finished 6th last season (2024) are rock bottom this season. I do think it was a mistake stepping up from amateur to semi-pro. I wasn't even asked my opinion on that, the Board just did it. Loddefjord are heamoraghing money and it's all on player salaries we can't afford. I doubt we'd have got promoted as an amateur club last season but the finances would've been a lot healthier. 7 hours ago, warlock said: I appreciate your loyalty Thank you. 7 hours ago, warlock said: but I might be applying for every job in Scandinavia in your position. Time to get out of Dodge? I’m not sure any other football club would want me at the moment and my Chairperson may be correct in not wanting to pay me. The Board and Supporters still think I’m doing a good job and the expectation is to fight bravely against relegation. They may have that assessment right even though I was hoping for better. You know that pre-match Board / Supporter expectation email you get in your Inbox? Neither Board nor Supporters have expected a win this season, every match it’s been either draw or, much more often, loss. In that respect, we’re performing as poorly as our Board and Supporters expect. Whilst not officially my agent, Hedda Berg has been looking and there’s no job vacancies to apply for at the moment, not realistic ones any way. 7 hours ago, warlock said: oof! I’ll be honest with you, @warlock I’ve been tempted to resign and walk away because I can’t seem to catch a break this season. I think I’ve got Loddefjord playing reasonably well but we’re not getting results. I’m at a loss what to do… ☹️⚽️😡 Edited December 20, 2023 by Stuniverse

Jogo Bonito
Tough reading, but with a cool head you must remember that this season was all about trying to survive. Results are obviously a bit depressing, but you're not under-performing. I'd be very impressed if you stick it out, especially given the lack of pay and financial difficulties of the club. But a more defensive formation might work, slowly and steadily. I've had great success on FM23 and FM24 with a 5122 formation, a flat back five, defensive midfielder, two central midfielders, and two strikers. It's main purpose was to be solid defensively, but has also been quite fruitful in attack.
