We needed a number of reinforcements for the squad, we needed to move away from amateur contracts where we could.

image.png.a51aea5fbcfd2e7f70bd154fcc954da9.png

We'll break it down by area on the field.

GK - Pedro Lopes joins after a successful trial having left Vizela earlier in the summer, the young Portuguese national will be first choice.

Defence - a number of upgrades and players in here. Chardonie Ilunga's agent recommended him to us, on an amateur contract at Spanish non-league side Huracan, he comes in as first choice but we'll need to work on his aerial ability and his positioning. He will be partnered by Leon Prosche in an all-new centre-back pairing, the young German arrives having been released by Union Berlin, he has good athleticism and attributes in the right areas. We've also brought in two new full-backs on loan; Aaro Tiihonen joins from Finnish side AC Oulo and Tiago Parente joins from Sporting CP in Portugal. We've also made a calculated gamble on signing Emili Cabello who was released by Spanish youth club Damm, whilst he is a RM we are retraining him to be RWB as that's where I want to move the formation towards when we have the quality available.

Midfield - Miguel Goncalves comes in as rotation for DM and Tein vad der Ham was on an amateur contract at Dutch club UNA, Tein immediately becomes a starter midfielder for us.

Att. Midfield & Striker - Liechtenstein international Noah Frick joins on a free from Swiss side Montlingen to be first choice alongside Veselcic and Dany de Sousa will rotate in whilst on loan from Mondorf. Just one striker signing in Marley Milord on loan from French side Wasquehal.

Dudelange were another step too far us, however, again, we dominated them to a degree; we had the most possession, shots and shots on target. They created the best chances and most xG though. Back to winning ways against fellow promoted side Fola Esch, a solitary goal from the penalty spot rewarded us with all three points. We then played in the cup, against lower league opposition in Atert Bissen, which allowed us to play a little more freely, really dominating them with four clear-cut chances, nearly four xG and three times as many shots to them.

We're top on virtue of goal difference from Jeunesse Esch a team we have already beaten.

Another good month and certainly a good one for Noah Frick.

An early goal was cancelled out in the 2nd half against Swift Hesperange before Milord and Frick scored their first goals of the month. A few days later against lowly Wiltz, Frick hit his first hat-trick for the club with Milord scoring the other. A third win of the month courtesy of Frick once more as his solitary first-half strike was enough to defeat Una Strassen. We ended the month with an away draw against Schifflange.

Progres have begun to hit form and are close on our tail along with Jeunesse Esch and Differdange.

November & December 2025

image.png.06ea8ce4e97cb7a9ed1da92a63f136cb.png

Not a good couple of months. Firstly losing to Titus Petange in the cup, we were poor in front on goal, Titus on the other hand; two shots, two goals. We outplayed Mondorf for a point, 19 shots with six on target compared to their five and two. Another defeat to Titus, this time in the league, they outplayed us and deserved the victory. Some respite as we secured a win over Mondercange, through on-loan Portuguese left-back Parente. I was fearing the worst against Progres but Veselcic had other ideas with a hat-trick. A very even game; 6 v 8 SOT, 2.23 v 2.10 xG, two clear cut chances each, a draw was a worthy result.

image.png.85067cd24ee20ea61e5f74d17753b847.png

We drop from top spot to fourth but we're still going well. We have a six-point gap to 5th place, and European football could be a possibility.

February 2026

We've returned from the winter break in good form although not the start we would have wanted with a draw to bottom two side Jeunesse Canach. We were on the right end of a five-goal game thanks to German defender Prosche's first goal for the club. A Veselcic penalty was enough for three points against top-of-the-league Jeunesse Esch and he followed that up with a double against Racing FC.

image.png.a5927738b24aceacc0c4c20a0e9ea0da.png

An even point gap over Progres in 4th. A solitary point behind 1st and 2nd.

March 2026

image.png.c94aba48107f1a0961f8a6e9c160247b.png

Another good month, a solo Veselcic effort was enough for all three points against a strong Differdange side. We took our one clear-cut chance and those three points saw us hit the top of the table. Marley Milord struck twice to down Dudelange, a fairly even game where we took our chances. Then we failed to take our chances against Fola Esch as we racked up just over 2.0 xG whilst having six shots on target. Veselcic failed to score in injury time penalty to steal all three points, his first miss from the spot of the season.

Top by three points as Differdange lost to Racing FC.

We opened the month with a solid win over Swift Hesperange, we amassed 3.94xG and created four clear-cut chances, maybe we should have won by more against the side bottom of the league. We then drew at home to Wiltz, a poor result in reality, we had more chances but Wiltz had more clear-cut chances. Some rotation due to niggly injuries and a couple of suspensions, it did us no favours as Una Strassen beat us comfortably. We had plenty of opportunities but it was Andre Oliveira who notched a hat-trick for them who did the damage. Back to a full complement of players for the against Schifflange. Claude Mendes, the best youth player from last season's intake got us off to a flyer after just two minutes, we could have had more than six as the goalscoring ended with around half an hour of the game remaining.

Top by two points to Differdange, four games remaining.

A poor 1-1 draw against Mondorf tightened things up at the top. A much-needed win over Titus Petange thanks to the midfield duo of van der Ham and Claude Mendes with the goals. We were 5-0 up against Mondercange before they came back into the game with three goals of their own. Veselcic and van der Ham with two goals each. We play Progres on the last day of the season...

A draw will be enough to see us crowned Champions of Luxembourg.

2025/26 Season Review

image.png.5a2db9f98984fbbbcab28f756cadeb62.png

A crowd of 1067 saw us beat Progres 2-1, the goals coming from Veselcic and Milord. Which means...

image.png.aaa2e58ba7185d0229ce22c7f8d3054d.png

Unreal scenes at the Estadio do Cents as we secure the National Division title for the first time. We've blown our pre-season predictions of attempting to avoid relegation out of the water. We have also won the division title in each of the last three seasons at three different tiers.

Luxembourg National Division - Predicted 11th | Finished 1st

We finish three points clear of Jeunesse Esch and Differdange with Progres being leapfrogged by both on the last day of the season. We scored the 5th most in the league with 64 goals and conceded 32 goals which was actually the least by five goals.

Luxembourg Cup - 3rd Round - we beat Atert Bissen before losing to Titus Petange in the 3rd Round.

Top Scorer - Oliver Veselcic (20) - another step up for Veselcic but he made it look easy, the young Luxembourgish shadow-striker notched 20 goals in all competitions with 18 coming in the league which sees him tied for 4th in the league goalscorers chart.

Most Assists - Serkan de Wit (8) - eight assists in 1500 minutes for Serkan, he was largely a rotational player behind Veselcic and Frick.

Average Rating - Oliver Veselcic (7.67) - 10 Player of the Match awards this season for Oliver, he contributed 20 goals and seven assists.

U19 POTY - Tein van der Ham - a great debut season for Tein in Luxembourg, he played the Mezzala role in a midfield two, he scored six goals and made eight assists.

image.png.2922837ce5eba0cb901550eff3842e6b.png

The owner has pumped in three separate cash injections into the club this season totaling £285k. That money won't last, finishing top of the league however, does enter us into the Champions League for next season, so we have a chance of some participation money and maybe some prize money if we get a good draw.

Meteoric rise to the top! Nice that your board has covered the deficit this year and you'll get a shot at Europe money next year.

What is the state of professionalism in Luxembourg for FM24? When I played there in FM23 I want to say it was mostly semipro until I built up the nation.

Thank @WhiteCat33, let's just say it's been all too easy to be honest but maybe that's because it's such a level playing field in Luxembourg. There's no prize money, no TV deal at the moment, and sponsorship ranges from £250k to £50k.

Every club is also semi-professional at the moment. Dudelange probably has the closest chance to turn professional due to having £1.5m in the bank. A couple of seasons in Europe we could be sitting with a similar amount in the bank.

It's good to see someone play in Luxembourg.

Great save so far (from a FOLA fans' perspective: wrong club though :D ).

Will follow this one - good luck!

Derry is a difficult draw but surely not impossible to beat.

One word of advice - do not rush to become professional too soon.

Money is so very tight in Luxembourg that you could end up ruining the club that way.

(Speaking from experience.... )

Thanks @LowestLeagueHero good to have you following!

I think we can get past Derry but Dinamo will be a step up too far for us.

I've experienced that too before, turning professional too soon ruins you financially in the background and obviously contracts to change all the players from part-time to full-time. We're some way off yet though.

July 2026

I've spent some time scouting, trialing and signing some new players so it's taken some time to get to the Champions League games.

image.png.806ffd5494ab9dfeab7d832c0b72d677.png

We traveled to Ireland for the first leg with a pretty threadbare side, most of the first team from last season was still here with a smattering of new players but largely youth on the bench as we looked to release most of the deadweight and players on amateur contracts.

Derry scored after a minute, so things could have gone a lot worse. Indian left-back Akshay Barreto made a rare start and rewarded us with an equaliser, maybe he was the first Indian player to score in the Champions League  Derry regained and held the league until new signing Muratovic equalised again for us. We held on until the 93rd minute when Derry scored a winner, probably a fair result considering they had three clear-cut chances.

A week later with a good rest under our belts, we welcomed Derry to the fine city of Luxembourg. The tie was almost over after half an hour, Muratovic again, Veselcic and another new signing Mahamadou Sangare all netting. Derry had a man sent off but still found time to score and put some doubt in the mind. A matter of seconds later and we restored a two-goal cushion in the tie through Claude Mendes. Frick came off of the bench and added a 5th on the night for the icing on the cake.

image.png.c35393fb2d98f23f8249fe372c254e4c.png

We received £85k in prize money plus £23k from gate receipts which helped the finances massively.

What the actual... at home we welcomed the might of Croatia to the Estadio do Cents as a record crowd cheered us on to an unlikely draw thanks to a Oliver Veselcic goal. But, to go to Zagreb and put in a tie-winning performance was nothing short of a miracle. Dinamo dominated the game as expected but we took our chances. Dinamo went ahead in the game early in the second half, maybe resting the whole first XI was key to the comeback as Veselcic scored once again to even the tie-up and take us to extra time where he again bagged another goal to see us through against the odds.

image.png.680103425968d029858a00a269de92a7.png

We received another £85k for winning the tie whilst we also received around £40k in gate receipts from the first leg.

image.png.b8b3faec2cfadabd67e494d617e0dfc2.png

We'll play Estonia side Flora Tallinn in the 3rd Qualifying Round. They've beaten Sant Julia (Andorra) and Sheriff Tiraspol (Moldova) so far.

A tie too far for our young side. For some reason, we played this game at the national stadium instead of our own. Maybe that was a factor, maybe it was because Flora are mid-season. We were probably marginally the better side in terms of chances across the two games but it wasn't to be.

Another £85k in the bank and we drop down into the Europa League where we will play...

Despite all the European games we've done quite well in the league too, we've rotated quite heavily in a couple of games which resulted in draws to both Jeunesse Esch and Mondercange. The win over Dudelange was great, with three new players scoring the goals.

Nine new players come in to improve the first team.

  • Mahamadou Sangare - Started the season with seven goals in 10 games after signing on a free transfer, he was previously at PSG.
  • Liam McIntyre - our new RB who signed for free from Chorley.
  • Belmin Muratovic - surprisingly released by Progres having played 123 league games for them. Straight into the first team at AMC.
  • Roni Klisurica - a rotational signing.
  • Palmi Rafn Arinbjornsson - the Icelandic national was previously at Wolves, he becomes the first choice in goal.
  • Davidson Ablordey - recommended to us by his agent, he joins for free from Ghanaian side Attram de Visser.
  • Dinis Gama - released by Braga, I immediately put an offer in and he joined to be first choice DM.
  • Adelico Brito - another signing from Africa, another recommendation by his agent, the Cape Verdean signs to be back-up for Sangare.
  • Rodrigo Dias - we nearly had a mutiny on our hands, our backup right back demanded more quality at LB, so in came Dias.

image.png.fe60878e3b1747203af7db846873cbbf.png

A quieter month for us which gave us a chance to rest some players and welcome some back injury.

We were slightly lucky against Wiltz, whilst we had more chances they had the better chances to score. We beat Una Strassen by the same result, Veselcic scoring from the spot and a second goal of the season for Klisurica. Our first game in the Conference League ended in defeat to Sarajevo. A mad 10 minutes in the first half, saw Sarajevo score in the 20th minute, Veselcic put us ahead and by the 27th minute things were level again. Sarajevo went on to win the match. Sangare struck twice to defeat promoted Etzella Ettelbruck in a fan day which didn't seem to attract many more fans than normal.

Thank you very much @LowestLeagueHero

I never thought we'd get past Dinamo as we did and when we got the defeat against Flora I knew we'd drop down to UEL but didn't realise you drop again if you lose in the playoff. If we can manage a point from the group stage I will be very happy.

October 2026

image.png.d8fbe7ca94528e31eaf8dd700726cbd2.png

A busy month with the cup games thrown in there.

We started the month in good fashion, hammering bottom of the table Bettbourg 5-0, Sangare with a hattrick. We rotated in the cup and came out the other end unscathed against Canach. A few days later, back to full strength apart from Sangare who was away on U23 international duty with Mali. We faced top-of-the-league Progres and found ourselves 2-0 up but Progres scored twice before half time to bring things back level and that's how it stayed

Fenerbahce in the Conference League saw a huge turnout of 2200 fans at the national stadium once more. We were blown away by the Turkish side only to fight back with two goals of our own when we were already 4-0 down. A tired side was rotated for the game against Rumelange and we struggled to a 1-0 win where we didn't even allow the opposition a shot of goal. A week later we faced the same side again in the Cup, a freshened-up side won 4-0 with Sangare returning from Mali U23 duty.

image.png.3e1d6f60d5e59973fb31fd94a9aaf546.png

Still two points behind Progres and we're both still unbeaten.

We welcomed Moldovan side Sheriff to Luxembourg and found ourselves 2-0 up after 25 minutes. We conceded before halftime but looked likely to hold on for that first-ever UECL victory but our hopes were dashed when Sheriff scored and injury-time equaliser. We took our frustrations out on Rosport a few days later and came away with a 4-1 victory to keep us within touching distance of Progres. We were lucky to come away from Fola Esch with all three points, an injury-time winner for ourselves this time as we dominated the game and created 3.48 xG but couldn't find the back of the net until then.

We struggled massively against Sturm Graz away in Austria, we had five shots on goal but couldn't get one on target whilst the home side created plenty of opportunities and took a couple of theirs. Defeat in the league for the first time this season a few days later as we traveled to Mondorf, a side sitting in 4th place at the time. We dominated possession but again couldn't take a chance, whilst the home side created 3.19 xG with three clear-cut chances.

image.png.abbad07ff9190f706a1c3ed892dbd755.png

Progres keep winning and that loss to Mondorf has opened up the gap to five points with 3rd hot on our tails.

Three games this month as we break for winter.

Differdange dispatched with relative ease, we dominated them and restricted them to just five off-target shots. We should have had more than two goals but I'll take that with the clean sheet. We traveled all the way to Kazakhstan to face Tobyl, who were below us in the table for the UECL, the fact we only had one point shows that they must have been quite poor too. I fancied a win but didn't expect to create over 5.5 xG and plundered 21 shots on their goal let alone score seven goals. Oliver Veselcic was the star of the show with his three goals whilst van der Ham notched twice. We ended the month and European campaign with a narrow home loss in front of another record crowd of 2580 against Brondby. We held the Danish giants until the 2nd half when they scored within minutes of the restart, the game was pretty even, both having four shots on target.

f7b428974419da6201ba5ca48b79bf90.png

We're now three points behind Progres after they drew against Mondorf.

image.png.50a2643dd71dfbf605e54fbc0c399657.png

We ended our Uefa European Conference League campaign down in 30th (of 36) place. I'm happy with the performances, to get four points is a good achievement and something we can build on next time are in this competition.

2026/27 Season Review

image.png.72556eee86ab93fe2cec7443df3eb0c0.png

We had four games remaining to try and retain the title but we did our best to try not to. We opened the month with the loss against Rosport but redeemed ourselves against Fola Esch with a big win. Mondorf were the highest-placed team we had to play and we bottled it, for the second time this month, we lost at home. We went into the last game of the season needing a miracle, we needed to win and Progres to lose to retain the title. We did our part but did Progres?

image.png.307707c88981f5d5dd34fdfcfc03135c.png

Progres were beaten by Mondorf 2-0 and we leapfrogged them to the top spot to win a second league title in a row. We finished level on points with Progres but had a greater goal difference by six goals.

League - Predicted 3rd | Finished 1st (League Title Table)

image.png.97fc2e5287b33053850daf276f775e5b.png

May also saw us win our first Luxembourg Cup, we comfortably beat Una Strassen in the semi-final before defeating Wiltz in the final thanks to a Belmin Muratovic goal.

image.png.6f88ffba6650573f2469e8f87ef97d15.png

Luxembourg Cup - Winners

Champions League - We beat Derry City and Dinamo Zagreb before losing to Flora Tallinn.

Europa League - We were humbled by Djurgardens.

Conference League - We dropped down into the League stage of the UECL. We picked up four points from our six games to finish in 30th place.

image.png.de02a87b7042a0bc9be0f305d517e470.png

Top Scorer - Oliver Veselcic (30) - Thirty goals from 42(2) games in a great return for the Shadow Striker.

Most Assists - Mamadou Sangare (11) - The big forward made the most assists but also scored 20 goals for the club.

Highest Average - Oliver Veselcic (7.64) - he's playing beyond his attributes, with 41 goal contributions from 43 appearances this season.

U19 POTS - Adelcio Brito - 13 goals and three assists in 16(8) appearances as rotation for Sangare. He's unhappy about game time but has been called up to the senior Cape Verde national team.

image.png.7ccd0c4aa0d5f3c8a94345dc483d8f07.png

The board has enquired about turning professional, but I've ignored it in the hope it will go away until I'm ready. We have the money at the moment but we need to improve infrastructure again and increase junior coaching as a priority.

We've gone early on the transfer business this season...

ea3f56ba4c6838c36c798e17ef8d40a9.png

We sold Brito to Leixoes, he was kicking off because of the lack of game time. I would rather have kept him but not at the risk of upsetting the whole squad.

c19e0f47a314431e97adbb99fffda519.png

Eight new players arrive with an emphasis on players from Luxembourg. We were given just over £1m to spend and an increase in the wage budget too.

Lionel Amou is not great quality but we needed another left back. We raided Dudelange for Halim Meddour and Mohamed Benslaiman for a combined £60k. The former offers experience in defence and the latter goal contributions with 21 in 54 for Dudelange since joining them. We splashed a club record £150k on Rayan Berberi from Belgian side Standard, when fit he will slot in at AMC. Perkovic and Meyer are young backup options for attack and in goal. Khalil Fayad was an offer too good to turn down, the 23-year-old French midfielder can play both DM and CM whilst having the ability to play in a host of roles. The other player to join was Irish centre-back Cathal Heffernan who was released by Newcastle. He immediately becomes first choice alongside Ablordey.

In an easy tie against Maltese side Hamrun in the UCL, new signing Benslaiman netted a hattrick in the first leg and Veselcic netted four in the second leg. Serbian side Crvena zvezda up next, a much tougher tie. We managed a 1-1 draw in front of a new record crowd and lost 2-0 away from home, I'm happy with that performance.

We opened the domestic season up against Progres. We dominated the club that we pipped to the title last season, restricting them to just three shots with none of those on target. We took our one clear-cut chance and won the game 1-0 thanks to Benslaiman.

August 2027

A really busy month with eight games. Latvian side RFS in the UEL 3rd Qualifying Round up first and had a strong performance, the tie practically over in before half time. We rested and played a pretty much full-strength side against Racing FC, we needed to win to keep pace with the top few teams who were winning and didn't have European games to play. We rotated for the return leg against RFS, we suffered a defeat but we advanced. Back to full strength against Rosport for another league win before we played Armenian side Pyunik in the UEL Play-Off. Two goals from forward Sangare and one from Benslaiman saw us win the first leg 3-1.

We struggled against Jeunesse Esch, fitness was becoming an issue for both the first-choice XI and second string. We needed an own goal to pick up the three points but we didn't deserve them. We traveled to Armenia for the return leg knowing we needed to not lose to reach the league stage of the Europa League. A couple of days later we faced Titus Petange with a rotated side and we suffered our first loss of the domestic season, Titus only had two shots on target, scoring both whereas we only had three on target despite having 17 attempts.

Thankfully a quieter month. A drab affair against Jeunesse Canach opened the month, just one goal was needed for the three points. Another record crowd witnessed a 2-0 loss to Genk from across the border. We regrouped against Mondercange, a beat them 4-0, wantaway Muratovic netting a first half hattrick. A decent performance against Vitoria Guimaraes but ultimately another loss in the UEL. A couple of days later we rotated the team and left it late to beat Differdange.

(includes a game from October)

Una Strassen kind of coming out of nowhere. Nine points clear of Progres already.

A big win over Mondorf (which was in the table for last month). We rotated heavily for the cup game against Yellow Boys to only come away with a 1-0 win. Another hattrick from Benslaiman rewarded us with another three points against Dudelange. Full strength for Marseille but a 2-0 loss, we didn't have a shot on target for the new capacity record crowd. Some rotation for the Swift game, we were 4-2 down and needed a 90th minute equaliser. Full strength for the cup game against Hostert, a second first half hattrick of the month this time from Sangare to see us advance.

November 2027

This looks like a poor month on paper. The standard two goals conceded in the UEL this time to Greek side PAOK. That loss fed into the league too as we were defeated by Wiltz. We returned to winning ways against Schifflange, with three attacking midfielders scoring the goals. We gained our first point in the UEL after five games, drawing 0-0 with Turkish side Samsunspor. We then struggled to a 1-1 draw against lowly Fola Esch in the league.

A single point ahead of Jeunesse Esch.
