If it's data update, then definitely wait till the new Winter patch, which will have January transfer window included. If you are waiting due to some bug fixes which you may have faced on your own or read in the forums, then you can start the new save anyway. The bug fixes are typically old-save compatible, unless some major bug got discovered and fixed by SI. So, your game will be patched and include all the bug fixes anyway.
