FM 25 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Recommended Posts

10 hours ago, jscjr said:

We do know, as SI posted the figure in one of their FM25 development updates.

We also considered the available game data. Only 5.6% of all FM24 PC saves have used the mode, which we feel validates our view that we need to do much, much better with the experience. That number is even smaller on Console.

Tell me how many players that is then please - if you think you know?

5.6% of 'saves'. Not players. If every single person that played FM24 had 20 saves per year then every single person could have played International Management.

A dumb joke about it just being a tired Miles was the first thing that came to mind.

Starting to wonder if Sega Sammy should not consider a 'restructuring' of their marketing department

I don't like Sega as a publisher, and not only because of FM. Although we don't know the terms of their interaction. And it would be strange if in the age of the Internet there was exclusive information on the poster that had not been published before. It would fly around the world in a few minutes for all fans of FM, and there is no point in that. Announcement coming soon.

Save percentage is probably a better metric than purely player count anyway. 90% of players and 10% of saves could be exactly the same thing, but the latter tells you that the former is way overblown. One person spending 2 minutes looking at the mode and abandoning it counts as a person, but it could be 1% of that person's saves. That's far more telling as a metric, which is probably why it's been used.

Not that it even matters, to anything close to the degree people keep talking about a number.

No figure or % would have been better.

They should have just said we wanted to implement this, this and this but we don’t have time to do them justice. By putting a figure on it, just starts everyone bickering about how it would be more etc if it had been done properly years ago.

Anyway, done to death now as I said earlier

Weird an Asian company, choosing to advertise to an Asian audience by using Asian players!

The temerity of it!

I'm sure if Citeh or United had any Asian players they'd have used those instead.

I am baffled that this need an explanation. Japanese people love their own PL players, and Mitoma is probably the most iconic footballer in Japan today.

I increasingly think that this was a case where the closed SI should not have become open. A simple "work in progress, forced delay" would not have caused as much resonance as speculation on % that cannot subside.

They definitely need a public relations specialist. Miles doesn't look like one, with all due respect.

Lol it's international default thing. As if Kane isn't the main face on the UK Bundesliga posters

upd - Some might say that Kane is like this because he is a superstar. And this could be called an argument.

But a great example is the Sky Sports poster with Sancho, although he certainly can't be the main character of this match. It's not good or bad, it's just how it works

Not too sure if this is old news but Football Manager has been confirmed as being at the Tokyo Games Show as part of the Sega Atlus presentation tomorrow at 11am UK time. Not sure what will be revealed at this presentation.

No sign of it yet though I did check in late.

A total no-show for the game - apart from maybe a merchandising booth then.

The worrying thing is this is the only game on that page not part of the presentation. There is also the complete radio silence from SI Games. Would it be too much to ask for them to give us an update - even if they have to announce a delay to the announcement? This is terrible marketing for the game.

This was the last announced game on the Sega Atlus website. They were obviously expecting something for the show IMO.

They’ve literally said announcement at the end of September. It’s not the end of September yet. Why do you want SI to constantly tell us what they’re doing, what purpose does it serve?

The only people who thought an announcement would be earlier are the eager beavers in this thread who are perpetually annoyed with everything SI do.

For some (definitely not me) it would be to say "Why are you talking with us 24/7 when you should be making the game better?" :-p

Although I'd still say the one they gave was better than number of players, ultimately you're right.  Like with a lot of what they said in their updates, I can see where it was coming from and why it seemed like a good idea, but it ended up being pitched wrong.

Monday has been the known date for the announcement for over a week now. I get people want news, and even I was hopeful for something today, but it's Friday, enjoy the weekend and then settle in for the (what could be bad news) on Monday. Plenty of time to bicker over it still.

I don't think people want to be told what SI are doing - they want some info on what is in the game - show some screenshots or videos. I guess most people don't care if Miles is on his 4th coffee of the day, they do care if the UI is looking better.

And I have been around long enough to know if SI say something towards the end of a week/month it usually means right at the end - but again would it not be better just to say 'More updates on 30th September'?

Be interesting reading on here if Monday rolls round and they delay the announcements again. :D

Think at this point, disappointment has been almost fully priced in. We've reached that sweet spot where the blinkers fans will see everything they do as 5d chess, the disappointed ones will see everything they do as some kind of evidence they were always right and doom (not the game) will surely follow.

TL;DR: your normal video game discussion forum.

No, it hasn't.  That was a "leaker" setting that date. The very last day of the month as "late September" is taking the ****.

I must admit it’s pretty funny reading the forums at this time of the year…

A barrage of If’s, Maybe’s, Probably’s etc breaking loose. Discussions ignite where you see comments which come across as if wanting to persuade others of certain ideas or takes on things. Some reactions even pushing the boundaries of staying respectful and understanding to one another.
Makes me wonder how those minds are kept at peace during the days.

There’s also the option of just waiting it out and see whenever further info is being dropped by SI for us to read, which makes it possible to form opinions based on what is released so far, instead of the ever guessing and guessing what may or may not be the case?

But I get it tho… I’m very curious myself as well 😋

I.. distinctly remember buying my copy, being weirded out by the new logo/title style, but enjoying the game itself.

Was there release/information mischief that I forgot about? ^^

It's really fun. I mean it's like we play a roles and care excessively. I'm waiting for the gif thread that comes every year after the announcement.

The game was unplayable for a *lot* of people - me included. I don't mean that it was poor either, I mean the load times and crashes were unbelievable and the 2D match engine was bugged with players making some wild decisions. By the time the game was patched up to a playable level, CM 03/04 was just about ready for release. Seeing this box art triggers PTSD tbfh. 'SORT IT OUT SI!!!!1'

03/04 was pretty good though. It was what CM4 should've been.

I don't mind if FM 25 is a bugged mess like CM4. As long as the improvements are well placed. Eg match engine and AI squad building. And not fluff and stuff no one asked for whilst neglecting the major recurring issues with the game.

This is their chance to build the game from the ground up again and if they are leaving things like Internationals out to get the core game as good as possible, then that's fine with me and bugs are expected.

I personally will just skip this year and wait for FM 26, but I do expect to see the potential in FM 25

Say what you want about the game itself, but the physical CM4 manual and that dirty mitre football was a thing of beauty

That Mitre football was truly iconic during the CM era. It really made us feel connected to the pitch and the match... those were the good old days! :)

Thinking about the new graphics engine, what if we've already had a glimpse of the game's new look—at least in terms of animations—right in front of us?

Hear me out. Miles mentioned they've been working with Unity since 2020, right? We’ve had 3-4 iterations of the game since then, with... slight graphical improvements. What if the focus has been on Unity since then, which seems logical, and the graphical/animation improvements we've seen over the past few years were just transferred from the work being done on the new match graphics/animations in parallel?

We have those new animations in FM24. Imagine we get those same animations with slightly better ball physics and somewhat ''shiny'' graphics lol. It's like a horror story.

I think it's more noteworthy to talk about the absolute rat behavior of sortitoutsi and out of context football manager to spread the leaks as something authentic/credible. The fact that sortitoutsi didn't even mention their sources heightened my suspicion that it's probably bad actor(s) from Sports Interactive.

Sports Interactive should re-evaluate their relationships towards these two communities. This is peak stupidity from sortitoutsi and out of context football manager

Genuine question . Where is the holding midfield ?

Only saw holding fullback , or has it a different name

Out of possession?
I'd say the 'holding midfield' is probably the 'screening midfield'. But you could argue it's the 'dropping midfield' as well, depending on what you're looking for.

Based on the supposed leaked screenshots, I'd guess it's like:

Dropping Defensive Midfield: Drops deep, almost into the backline, like an Anchor (or Half Back?).
Screening Defensive Midfield: Sits in front of the backline, challenges AM's, other bursts through midfield or long passes.
Pressing Defensive Midfield: Like the traditional Ball-Winning-Midfielder - closes down more, tackles hard, actively steps up to opposing players in the centre to make it difficult for them to receive the ball and/or forcing them to play backwards.

Just my opinions, but hope that helps!
