Ball gets smashed at point blank range into the arm of some hapless defender who knows nothing about it, and everyone starts appealing. I hate it so so much. Surely not too long until the law gets revised and we stop ruining game after game (and particularly big, close ones) with this dogmatic, anti-sporting nonsense.

Hope England gets the same treatment tomorrow and see the same people scream their keyboards off after such a terrible decision

Regardless of intent, illegal part of the body has touched the ball and stopped a goal scoring opportunity, has to be a penalty

Or the ball was smashed at close range at the side of the player which is where your arm is.

Those were given everytime in this tournament after looking at the video. Very arrogant to refuse to take a look

Refuse to take a look? Eh?

But his arm and hand has stopped a goal scoring opportunity. I said, regardless of intent.

When was a ball touching a hand that was at the players side and also behind his body given?

Christina Unkel is so great with the explanations. Going from her back to the commentators sounds like an adult back to children.

It’s amazing what a difference someone who knows what they’re talking about makes.

You.know it isn't a foul everytime the ball touches the hand or arm don't you?

Never a pen. Arms down by his side. The fact the rules are so stupid has meant Cucarella had to pull his arms inwards, because if he left them in the natural position, it would’ve been a pen if it hit the arm in the position before.

You didnt see the same replay apparently. That arm was far away from the body

I don't think any of us saw the replay you did tbf

Was it behind his body? Looked like he made no effort to keep it by his side and I've seen plenty of those given. The law is just so so fv<king 5hit and nobody was complaining when it was 'deliberate or not' or something very much along those lines. They've created a game-ruining bug out of nowhere

the refereeing analyst was excellent for the penalty shout (assuming she isn't making up a defence of the officials as she goes along)

said there was a new(ish) directive that those kind of hand positions should be ruled OK because although the hand is away from his body it's sticking out behind him so it's not making his silhouette bigger (from the point of view of a player shooting, it's no making any more of an obstruction than if his hand is by his side)

If that's a new directive it's a sensible one. But yeah, definitely seen them given.

At least we're guaranteed not to watch Taylor ref in this tournament anymore.

Why is that? If he gets a quarter he is done?

Whether it is or isn’t it never ever should be. Madness to call something like that.

If they actually give him another game after this disaster, then idk.

He's taken himself out of contention for the final (if England doesnt make it) with this performance.

Yes. But it has stopped a goal scoring opportunity. Third time I’ve had to say this.
