    Start of the season.

So the first few games of the season are out of the way and as you can see from the screenshot below things are going pretty well. Friendly wise we played against much weaker opposition apart from FC Utrecht who we managed to win 4-0 at home. League wise we have 5 wins from 5 games with the standout being the 12 goal thriller in the season opener to Lens, a few tactical tweaks later and we only conceded 2 goals in the next 4 league games. PSG have obviously matched or form and sit top of the league. Another thing to note is all the league games so far have been against teams predicted to finish 12th or below so we haven't really been tested. Next up though is Marseille away from home hopefully this will give us a better gauge of where we are at.

We also played our first game in the Uefa Europa Conference League a tournament I would love to win. Tottenham and Roma are our biggest competition going forward but there is also teams like Galatasaray to watch out for. Our first game was a 7-0 thrashing of Maccabi Haifa despite the landslide win we sit 2nd in the group after Jablonec also knocked 7 past Sheriff Tiraspol. Doku managed to score 4 goals but the highlight of the game was 17 year old youth team graduate Lesley Ugochukwu making his season debut and getting himself on the scoresheet in the 19th minute and finishing with an impressive 7.9 match rating. More game time in the league will slowly be introduced.

The last player we brought in  was Alexandre Parsemain he was brought to my attention by one of the scouts and Rennes were willing to accept £1.4m sadly for me though he had just signed a new contract and wouldn't discuss personal terms. Fast forward to deadline day and they had listed him for loan so we agreed a deal with an option to buy for £1.7m before the loan ends. As a few people in here have managed Nice or managed in France and are aware of the player you will know wether this was a good deal or not. Im happy unto now he is young a striker and French.

Good luck. Rennais is another top team for a "bring the boys home" save. Diop from Monaco is another one as well - doing really well for me.

Thankyou if the first game of the season is anything to go by its going to be an interesting season.........

hay, ive just started with rennes aswell. no idea of their style of football, but i am familiar with some of their players. And i hear they have some top youth players. Not sure its replicated in the game yet, maybe fm 23?, but i hear mathys tel is attracting a lot of interest? They do look a good team to use yongsters etc though.

Well I wish you the best of luck! And I normally do the majority of my saves in Serie A so this is fresh and exciting for me. Tel does look good im not sure if his potential is fixed or dynamic but his value on my save is £550k - £5.4m which is awesome for a 16 year old. The option to play him out wide or mold him into a ST is interesting too.

Defender comfortable playing both DL/DR bonus if they are also comfortable at wing back.
Two CB,s one to play/challenge for first team football and another to rotate.
DM with only natural player fit and another who isn't up to standard as backup we will require another DM to challenge for first team football.

    Stade_Rennais_FC_svg.thumb.png.088b9e0e9ecb6ad23e5c6ddd75dfb8e8.png

We identified where we needed to strengthen for the coming season and have made some transfers.

First up is Laurent Koscielny the experienced French man joins on a free transfer and provides a cheap short term solution to the CB position. He will do well mentoring some of the youngsters and on only £10k p/w is a very good piece of business.

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Two CB's were needed and two were purchased the second arrival is Jackson Porozo who joins from Boavista for £2m upfront and £500k a season for the next three years (total £3.5m) At 20 years of age the Ecuadorian is already on par with the best defenders at the club, some impressive physicals and room to grow he could be a rock at the back for years to come. He also arrives with low wages on £9.5k p/w and as you can see from the screenshot his value has already doubled from what we paid.

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

The next player we wanted was someone who could cover on both the LB and RB position's and ideally play wing back and that's exactly what we got. At £3m upfront and £1m per season for three seasons (total £6m) this was the most expensive signing we made. He has very rounded stats and is still only 22 years of age, due to him being at PSG the wages offered are on the higher side at £27k p/w but I believe long term it is a good investment. Capped at u21 level hopefully he can push on and reach his full potential at the club.

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

And finally the DM that we needed is Elisha Owusu. Already adapted to France from his time with Soxhaux and Lyon we paid £2.5m upfront and £1m a season for the next three years (total £5.5m) Versatile in the middle of the park he can play CM, DM or even cover at CB if needed. I have always had a soft spot for Ghanian midfielders since Michael Essien burst onto the scene at Lyon then Chelsea. Hopefully he can continue to develop and reach his potential at the club.

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

From the £12.8m budget available these players have cost us £7.5m plus signing on fees leaving us with £3.4m if the right player becomes available before the end of the transfer window. Im really happy with the way the team is turning out already and hopeful that the players signed won't flop.

    Stade Rennais F.C

Founded in 1901 the club have went 121 years without winning the Ligue 1 title. The club has an outstanding academy which has produced many talents over the years, most recently Ousmane Dembélé who now plays for Spanish giants FC Barcelona and Eduardo Camavinga who recently moved to Real Madrid winning a La Liga title and a Champions League title in his first season there. Hopefully the youth production will play a big part in the future of this save as we attempt to claim our first league title and dethrone the dominant PSG both domestically and in Europe but that goal is a long way away......

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Upon joining the club this is the situation we find ourselves in, Only 20 players in the first team with one player missing for the first 7-8 months of the season which leaves us 4 players away from a full substitute bench. I have had a good look at the youth products at the club and separated them into three groups, A - the ones I think will make it at the club, B - the ones who have a good chance of making it at the club and C- players who I will keep an eye on.

    A -                                                                 B-                                                      C-
Yann Gboho                                              Noah Fracoise                               Dogan Alemdar
Lesley Ugochuknw                                      Junior Kadile                                    Medhi Kalem
    Wilson Samake                                          Matthis Albine
    Mathys Tel                                     Dalangnynpole Gomis
    Desire Doue

The sad part is these players are way off first team football so will more than likely be sent on loan if a decent team comes in with some good game time on offer. Otherwise they will remain at the club and hopefully get some game time in some cup draws or some easier Europa Conference League ties.

Transfer wise we have a budget of £12.82m so we will need to be shrewd to add enough depth to the squad to avoid exhaustion. Looking at the team I'm happy with the goalkeeping options and we have a couple of youngsters who could be backup if one of them gets injured. DR/DL we have two players in each position so may need another backup player who can play on both sides to be safe in this long season. CB we have four at the club but one of those is our long term injury and another isn't up the grade so two more in this position is a must. DM is lacking so I would be happy with another as the tactic I have in mind will use one. But the rest of the squad MC / AMC / AML / AMR / ST  Im happy with unless someone really stands out who I can't turn down.

    Transfer Targets

Defender comfortable playing both DL/DR bonus if they are also comfortable at wing back.
Two CB,s one to play/challenge for first team football and another to rotate.
DM with only natural player fit and another who isn't up to standard as backup we will require another DM to challenge for first team football.

As far as outgoings the only players leaving the club this season will be younger players who are not going to make the grade. If we can manage to spread some of the transfers above over a couple of seasons we may have money to invest in some young players who we could potentially train up and sell in the future.

    Season Objectives

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

The board have set some very achievable targets for the first season which is reach the second round of the Europa Conference League, Ligue 1 qualify for the Europa Conference league (6th position) and reaching the quarter final of the domestic cup. Both cups are only preferred which takes a little bit of pressure away but they require the league position.

The final area of the squad which needs immediate attention is the clubs staff I mean just take a look. A full overall will be happening to make sure the club is starting on a fresh slate. All staff will be removed from there positions and replaced with much better options.

  7. I have played the game since the very early CM days but haven’t managed in France since Lyon were the force to be reckoned with. After much deliberation I have decided to manage Rennes for the soul reason they have a decent youth setup but more importantly haven’t won a league title. Early issue is the squad is very small so I will need to use the £12.5m budget to bring some good starter/cover players in. Will update you all before the first game of the season. I’m also excited about the long battle to replace PSG at the top of the league. I want my transfer dealings to be realistic and will be looking to use players I haven’t tried in my other saves so far.

Hi all. I'm a bit confused about the rule for non-European players in Italy. I currently have three of these players flagged as non-EU player who occupies a non-EU player slot. I then went on to sign an Argentinian central defender, who now is both flagged as a non-EU player who occupies a non-EU player slot and as an extra non-EU player who can't be registered until next season or until another non-EU player is sold.

I then released one of my non-EU players, a youngster who is never going to make it anyway, on a free. But I now still can't register my new Argentinian. Will I still be unable to register him until the end of next season?

Can anyone help me out here? I figured releasing one player would free up a slot for my new guy, but apparently it doesn't..

I believe you have to sell the necessary none-EU players to a foreign team to fill up the slot.

    Welcome to Bologna FC 1909

So here we are back in Italy to tackle our final save of this years football manager game. After much deliberation Bologna were the team I have chosen to manage, I did consider Genoa, Sassuolo and even my teams great rivals Torino but ultimately decided on this club for a few reasons.....

    1. They have won Series A 7 times in the past which puts them joint 5th on the all time list ahead of clubs like Roma, Lazio, Napoli and Fiorentina but there last title was way back in the 1963/64 season the only other major competition they have won is the Coppa Italia which again there last title was back in 1973/74

    2. They have a decent amount of young talents at the club who could play a massive part in future success - Nicolas Dominguez, Mattias Svanberg, Arthur Theate, Aaron Hickey aswell as a number of very talented young Italians - Riccardo Orsolini, Emanuel Vignato and young wonderkid Wisdom Amey who at only 15 years of age could become an absolute world beater.

    3. The club also boasts both excellent training and youth facilities which I will be hoping to make the most of during this save.

The goals of this save may change as the save progresses but I hope to build a decent Italian core throughout the squad whilst limiting myself to spending too much money or wages on players going forward. The youth aspect of this save is something I'm really looking forward to getting my claws into and I'm hoping to give game time to a new youth player every season going forward. Obviously the dream of the save is to win another Serie A title and ultimately the Champions League but if we do not reach those heights I would be happy with a Cuppa Italia and a minor European trophy.

Before the first season update lets take a look at the young talents who will hopefully be the core of this teams for many seasons.

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

First up we have Emanuel Vignato at only 20 years of age he can slot immediately into the starting 11 versatile on both wings as well as in the centre he has every chance of reaching an elite level.

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Arthur Theate is a pre arranged transfer who is arriving on a very low salary.  Already the strongest CB at the club and only going to get better still just 21 year old I'm sure he will be a leader for club and country.

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

At 23 Orsolini is the oldest of the core players easily the best right winger in the squad but can play elsewhere when needed. His growth will more than likely not be as fast as the others but still has untapped potential.

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Svanberg is balanced in all areas of his stats again he also offers a lot of versatility in the roles he can play, Strongest in CM or DM he can also help anywhere else in the midfield area. Already capped 9 times for Sweden I'm sure he will continue to shine.

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Dominguez is already wanted by bigger clubs and its easy to see why currently the best player at the club its imperative we hold onto him for as long as possible. Though a big fee in the future from one of Europes elite may force a sale if its too good to be true.

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

And finally Aaron Hickey a defender who can play practically anywhere on the left or the right. In game he is uncapped but in real life he has earned 3 senior caps. I'm sure that will be replicated in game sooner rather than later.
Happy to go forward and attack I can see him being a very important part of the fist team for as long as we can keep him.

Areas to focus on in the transfer window

There is a few deadwood players to sell to raise some transfer money and lower the clubs salary bill but in terms of strengthening the first team these are the areas we will be focusing on.

GK - Polish keeper Skorupski is the best at the club but only 3 star and 30 year old I want a younger Italian in the team, the two current backups can be sold as they are not good enough.

CB - Gary Medel is one of the best CB at the club but at 33 and on a high salary he is only going to decline we need a replacement option for the long term and again an Italian player would be preferred.

ST - There is at least two strikers at the club who don't make the grade and will be offloaded at the first opportunity (Santander, Falcinelli) Marko Arnautovic is the best ST in the squad by some distance but
like Medel he is 32 and is gonna decline he is also the clubs highest paid player on a whopping £67k per week in comparison the next closest is on £48,500 and after that the players are into the £30k bracket.

The big decision is when to offload him he has two years on his contract so the end of the first season may be the time.

anyone done a sassuolo save after the update? i have just started one and scammaca is on fire! 9 goals in 3 games! but im just wondering if they get a bit of money from the pre arranged sales of locatelli and boga?

Sorry didn't see this earlier but  pre arranged transfers have already been considered in the games starting budgets. Mainly due to the fact if you managed say Juventus who in real have agreed to pay for Chiesa and Locatelli which in game would set you back £64m and if you were the manager and didn't save that amount then the game wouldn't follow the real life pattern.

Gonna return to an AC Milan-save, as they just won the Scudetto..I probably won't be playing them in FM23.

I'm in doubt who to choose as their new manager Roberto Baggio, Claudio Marchisio or Daniele De Rossi?

As he is the game only as an Assistant Manager an interesting choice would be Davide Ancelotti. He is training for his badges in real life and would be fun to see if could replicate or better his father at the club! Im on my way back to Italy too.

I've been taking it slow, reputation still has to rise to bring in superstars, but i'm not concerned as the squad is already very good and got me a league title.

Expectations are hard, but we're doing ok

    Competitions this year so far

Them expectations are outrageous. With them players I think you are doing an amazing job not only to be second in the league but 5 out of 5 in the champions league in a group with REAL MADRID is crazy. I would certainly wouldn't be able to make them demands by the end of the season.

How's it going with the money? I have only had this kind of takeover before myself and ironically it was also in Italy. FC Castiglione was the team we went from Serie C to dominating Italy and Europe I loved that save. about to jump back into Italy myself I often drift away but end up missing it too much.

  14. Just had my first youth intake and got a 4/5 decent players but this guy was the pick of the bunch. As everyone is aware the club is severely lacking good striking options and having a value of £7.4m-£14m at only 16 makes me think he could really develop going forward. Gonna stick him in a mentoring group and try and work on a few areas of his game. He is already decent enough to be a rotation player for the first team as we play tom Lawrence AML and Sibley as CAM meaning only Dos Santos, Stretton and Plange who is useless on my save are rated higher than him. Also after 38 games we sit 12th in the championship and with the first transfer window disabled and only one free transfer and a loan in January I'm delighted with how the first season is going. Also Rooney has landed on his feet securing the Middlesbrough job on the day of the screenshot who are 3rd with only 8 games to go.

Well it feels like I have won the lottery.........

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

A massive amount of stress taken off myself and the football club as a whole. Sadly we lost a couple of our younger prospects from the youth teams for pennies but we have managed to keep the first team squad together. No transfer funds as of now but we are back in a positive bank balance even if it is only £950k the most important thing is we can operate in the transfer market again and refuse and renegotiate player sales. The club has £7m club debt but its been arranged to pay only £61k per month until 2032 which is massive for us going forward. Now to try and convince some of the players to sign new contracts before the end of the season.

Well that genuinely wasn't even something I considered possible, was just hoping to survive :D

Congratulations to do that in the timeframe and with that record is amazing. I always find massively overachieving after promotion ruins the save a little though. Had a save with Pisa and after promotion we were top after 22 games with no major transfers I found myself not finishing that season and starting a new save. Gonna head back to Italy though after a recent break and hopefully get back into the swing of things.

Been waiting for the winter update for a new challenge away from my Italian save and decided to give this one a go. Gonna go without any injury or transfer changes though to make it more challenging. My old headteacher was a massive fan and I look forward to seeing what I can do. Hoping to develop some youth and fingers crossed for a semi decent takeover. First transfer window will also be disabled for my save. Just a quick note I also go through stages where I can get a good amount of game time or very little so my updates will vary. The joys of working full time and having two beautiful little boys to look after.

Best of luck in Serie B. A very tricky league to get out of it seems the longer you stay the stronger the relegated teams become. Sad to see Venezia and Udinese went down two clubs I have had amazing fun with in the past. And it looks like Donnarumma is in his usual crazy form in that division.
