  1. @AceAvenger Love this thread! Some really good discussion in here and I have tried out your tactics to some very good success. I had a lot of fun with Mannheim in the 3. Liga and they've got some decent young players to work with who can also cut it further up the divisions. Would be great to see you try them however I also love your idea about Rostock especially since they are East German and would be great to get them into the Top Division and would be interested in seeing you build them up.

I started a new patch save today.

Staff is an issue, the replacemtents that came weren't that good, so most I replaced.

Pre-Season and the start sucks with Holidays and Injuries, which 3 games in, I've still not been able to use Gedson\Dele\Lo Celso\Foyth\Aurier\Son.

Promoted Cirkin, Skipp for Pre-Season, Just scraped through.. Full-Backs need some depth and as you posted, need to make a call on a declining Jan.. I will likely sell in January's Window as i mised this one. Sanchez can partner Toby for now, then we've got a few back-ups

CIrkin will do a job fo Pre-season, and lower cup games, but he's a season out for most. He'll progress well with me due to my OCD Training, and the fact he'll be used to rest players. Parrot also got a bump and is the same really. He'll rest Kane now and then (Or he'll fall into my "If players scores a Hatrick, bring on the youth player...")

Speaking of Pre-Season, Tangana got played as right back for the lot - Kicked on very well from it, so he may well get more game time in season 1, to the point he can stay for a few seasons - still don't knw how he'll turn out yet.

Vorm went for £1.5M, Wanyama for £20M to get some funds in. I mainly got some younger players in this time. Will post them next time i'm on and not half asleep. Aurier and the Loanee's will be on my sell list soon as well.

4-5-1 ATM for me, as the AMC's were all crocked.. Dier as HB (Depating that), Split press (Forwards Press, back-line don't). I'll blank Template it soon, and just add when needed. Lo Celso will 100% get told more risky passes.

Definetely right about the staff although Sacramento seems to have random stats so is sometimes good enough to keep.

I have started about 3 saves since this new patch with Spurs but I have yet to get into a save properly. Really doesn't help how some players basically have no pre-season and it's hard to get your tactics to gel from the off.

  3. End of Season (1) update:

    Premier League: 3rd

    Champions League: Winners

    FA Cup: Winners

    League Cup: Semi Final

    League:

We was actually extremely lucky to even finish in the top 4 let alone to finish 3rd. As you can see here our form after Christmas was really ropey to say the least. After matchday 33, both United and Arsenal could have finished above me had they won all there remaining games. Luckily for me they both reached the Europa League final so they had lots of fatigue in there squads and a pile up of fixtures.

    Champions League:

Fixtures here. I very nearly paid the price for rotating the team in the Atalanta 2nd leg but luckily we escaped with the win on penalties. I was literally tearing my hair out after this game! We was lucky against PSG as they battered us in both games but we was able to get past them and faced Athletico in the final (who won La Liga). They didn't trouble us too much in the final and we took our chances.

    FA Cup:

We knocked out Rochdale and Everton in rounds 3 and 4. We faced league champions Man City in the 5th round in a game which in all honesty I expected us to lose in. We managed to take the game to the lottery of penalties and once again we counted our lucky stars. Arsenal in the Quarter Final away was a tough ask for my side as we wasn't in the best league form and I had failed to beat Arsenal in both league games, Harry Kane scored a 94th min winner to send us through to the Semi's to face Swansea who we comfortable dispatched of. Liverpool in the final would provide a far sterner test but we overcome them with a Jadon Sancho winner in extra time.

    Carabao Cup:

Man Utd absolutely bossed us in both legs of the semi and I really couldn't complain at the 5-1 aggregate loss. United went on to beat Wolves 2-0 in the final.

    Key Player Stats:

    20191209165525-1.jpg

    Next Season Aims:

Even though we somehow managed to win the Champions League, I really would like to close the gap to City and Liverpool in the league. The below definetly needs to improve:

Possession: We was 14th highest team in terms of average possession. 14% off of Man City in 1st place. Our pass completion saw us at 75% and 15th in the table.

Discipline: We had 86 yellow cards handed out to my players ranking us 6th in the yellow card table. We also had 2 red cards.

Goals conceeded: We conceeded 50 goals in the league (8th least) but this is still 30 goals more than Man City! We really need to tighten up at the back. We had 9 cleansheets compared to City's 20.

Get Dele Alli scoring again. I played Dele far to deep this season as a B2B midfielder but he hasn't scored much. I would like to return to a 4-2-3-1 formation and have him linking up with Kane up front.

    Transfer Aims:

I've decided not to renew Lo Celso's loan this time. He never became a starting player for me and I decided to bring back Nabil Bentaleb who suits my formation better plus is club home grown. Nabil joins us for £13.75m.

I am looking to move on Aurier and I would like Max Aarons or Reece James to replace him. I was considering selling Walker Peters but he did an excellent job for me at the end of the season when Aurier was injured so now I am in 2 minds about giving him another chance. I will need to decide wether to loan out Foyth and Carter-Vickers again or to use one of them as 4th CB as we do lack depth here.

I'm looking at Strikers on the loan and transfer list as I would like to loan out Parrott for a season so he can get regular game time but will have to see what quality is available to me.

Sissoko will probably leave due to age and I will need to find Danny Rose a permanent transfer as he was at Villareal this season on loan. If any goalkeepers become available I may consider cashing in on Lloris.

So far i've been given just over £50m to spend before any sales so will need to spend wisely.

  4. I've just reached Jan 31st and the window has just slammed shut so it's time for my mid season update.

League: 3rd after 24 games. We sit 2 points behind 2nd placed Liverpool and 17 points off Man City in 1st. Chelsea sit 4th level on points with us but then Arsenal are 5th 4 points behind us.

FA Cup: Beat Rochdale and Everton respectively and we will face Man City at home in the 5th round. City have been breathtaking this season so will be difficult to progress.

Carabao Cup: Knocked out Hull, Sheffield Utd and Norwich before Man Utd dumped us out in the Semi Final 5-1 on agg ()

Champions League: Came 2nd in the group that consisted of Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen and Lille. We face Atalanta of Italy in the 1st knockout round so we should be able to progress here.

    1st Team transfers:

In: Jarrod Bowen joins from Hull for £17m

Out: Erik Lamela joined Leicester for £20m, Victor Wanyama joined Wolves for £18m.

I've also signed a few young players to help stock my U23's and the intention here is to hopefully make a profit from them over the next few seasons. I did try to sign Zatlan Ibrahimovic on a 6 month deal after he left LA Galaxy to enable me to loan out Parrott but he rejected us and decided to move to a Qatari team.

Looking ahead, i'm unsure as to what I will do with Lo Celso and I am leaning towards sending him back to Betis but he has 4 months to change my mind. I am looking around for 2 right backs as I'm not liking Aurier or Walker-Peters. If any GK's become available then I may look to make a change here. I would love to sign Ndidi from Leicester but they are asking for silly money at the moment.

  5. Started my new save...finally!

I've decided to ship out some of the old guard straight away with the following outgoings:

    Christian Eriksen - PSG - £75m

    Jan Vertonghen - Liverpool - £27.5m

    Toby Alderweireld - Man Utd - £36m

Danny Rose - Villareal - Season Long Loan 70% wages

Juan Foyth - Marseille - Season Long Loan 10% wages

The top 3 outgoings is due to there contracts expiring after season one and this has allowed me to cash in and re-invest to the squad. Tried to sell Rose but he wasn't having any of it until transfer deadline day where he moved to Spain albeit on a loan deal. Was going to keep Foyth but Marseille offered a loan and he should hopefully play more games there than he would've for me this season had he stayed. Incomings was the following:

    Nathan Ake - Bournmouth - £50m

    Ruben Dias - Benfica - £40m

    Ben Chilwell - Leicester - £66m

    Jadon Sancho - Dortmund - £90m

I've also signed a bunch of youngsters to help fill out the U18's and U23's.

Top 4 is an absolute minimum but I'm hoping to challenge for the League this season and try to win one of the cups if we can.

I thought after selling Alderweireld to Liverpool, Thiago Silva for 7.5 Million was a decent experienced replacement for a season or two.

The team report does highlight that the team lacks leadership

His wages of 205K a week, over his 2 year contract, actually make the deal around 28 Million, so not sure if it's a sound buy... we shall see

The prize money if you was to go far into the Champions League and finish high enough in the League will no doubt cover those costs though (and more!). I like that you wen't for an experienced pro rather than the next wonderkid off the block though that seems to be most common nowadays on FM.

I'm planning to start a Spurs save today because its a team I've never tried in any version of Championship or Football Manager. I am interested in one thing though and thats why everyone is signing Haaland? I played the beta as Man United and bought him but he was terrible. When the full game got released I started a new game again with Man United and turned off transfers in the first window which is also something I've never done previously. I signed Timo Werner instead of Haaland in the January window and he was just immense. He ended up being top scorer at the club for just half a season which was phenominal I think and as a result I finished the season 2nd and won the Europa league.  I'm starting my spurs save today later and he's the first person I am going to try and get.

Werner would be a very good signing and would add depth to the forward line which is really lacking if you get unlucky with Kane getting a serious injury.

On that note, has anyone decided to give Parrott game time and is anyone planning on using him as the main man perhaps in a couple of seasons ?

  7. @TottenhamBoi90 Still a decent season there and some positive stuff to build upon. Hopefully you can get in the players you need. Aarons and Chilwell was both excellent for me. Sancho is a player I wanted to buy but was out of my price range. I'm not very good on tactics really but something that does work for me from time to time is to change it up slightly and have a 2nd formation to use for say 4 or 5 games and then switch back to the previous formation. You could even try maybe playing a much higher tempo if you are playing at home against a bottom half side to see if that makes any differences to your attacking. Maybe deploying Dier as an anchorman or half back and putting Dele into CM as a B2B with n'dombele as a Mezzala could be another option. One thing for sure though, is that there are plenty of different options with this squad and different ways to play rather than being shoe-horned into a specific style.

@Connor Intering choice with Thiago Silva! Most people go for wonderkids straigh off the bat but I like that you've gone for some experience. Should bring in Ibra too! or maybe Cavani ? Decent start for you though and hopefully onwards and upwards.

I haven't got round to starting my save yet. Still debating what to do really. I'd like to try and replicate Mourinho's early tactics with Spurs but I'm not to great with tactics on FM and not sure if it's entirely possible with the way the ME is.

  8. I've played through to September 2020 and I am really really pleased with my transfers. Lets start with the players who left the club:

Moussa Sissoko - £24m to Fiorentina

Erik Lamela - £17.25m to Bournemouth

Danny Rose - £16.5m to Newcastle

Serge Aurier - £20m to Milan

Paolo Gazzaniga - £12.5m to Juventus

Luke Amos - £1.7m to Blackburn

I also sold a few of the U23's for under a million each most noteable Jack Roles (£300k to Portsmouth).

    Total: £94m

I sold Lamela because I wanted to give more game time to Sessegnon and also intergrate the returning Jack Clarke into the squad. Rose was my highest carded player last season and was in his last year of his contract so was a no brainer to try an upgrade here. Gazzaniga was sold because I had a fantastic player offered to me in goal that meant relegating Hugo to backup GK. Moussa didn't really fit my tactical style and at 30 was only going to start declining sooner rather than later and this will also allow me to give Skipp more game time. PSG was sniffing over Kane all season and all summer. I rejected numerous bids of between £70m and £90m which Harry complained about. They sent one final offer of £118m which was tempting but I decided to only sell if they bid £150m!

    I've brought in the following:

Ben Chilwell - £65m from Leicester

Max Aarons - £66m from Norwich

Erling Haaland - £24m from RB Salzburg

Jan Oblak - £300k loan from Athletico Madrid

Bruno Varela - £600k from Benfica

Xavier Amaechi - £1.2m from Hamburg

Giovani Lo Celso - £37m from Betis

    Total: £198m

A combined £131m on new fullbacks but I should be covered for the next 7+ years at least with these 2 providing they don't suffer any bad injuries. Both English too which fits with the club vision. I scouted Haaland as a possible Kane replacement as PSG was lurking. At £24m it was a no brainer to bring him in anyway and as i've managed to keep Kane, Haaland has now returned to Salzburg on a season long loan. I was notified that Jan Oblak had been transfer listed at Athletico for just £82m but with not enough in the budget i've signed Jan on a season long Loan and I can make the deal permanent once I can get some more budget. For me he is the best goalkeeper on the game so it was a no brainer to sign him (sorry Hugo!). Varela was signed to be 3rd choice keeper as Alfie Whiteman is out on loan and with Gazzaniga sold I was a little short in experienced cover should anything happen to Oblak or Lloris. Amaechi is a former Arsenal player who has had 1 season in Germany, I'm hoping to develop him and either keep him or sell for a slight profit. Lo Celso was of course made permanent at the end of the previous season. I tried to sign a Center-Back and I tried for Godfrey, Tomori, Gomez and Nathan Ake but I was being quoted silly money. Then at 16:45pm on Deadline day I get a notification to say Godfrey is unhappy at Norwich and has requested a transfer. I bid £30m which was accepted but wasn't able to sign him in time and the deal was cancelled. I have now however concluded the deal for £30m and he will join in January instead. I was being quoted £67m originally so very happy to get him for 30 even if I have to wait a few more months to get him.

My squad now looks like this:

    GK: Oblak, Lloris, Varela

Def: Aarons, Walker-Peters, Chilwell, Davies, Vertonghen, Foyth, Sanchez, Carter-Vickers

Mid: Dier, Skipp, Winks, N'Dombele, Maddison, Dele, Lo Celso

Attack: Kane, Son, Moura, Sessegnon, Clarke, Parrott

Noteable players out on Loan: Haaland (RB Salzburg), Amaechi (Middlesbrough), Nathan Ferguson (Sheff United)

I've been drawn to face Doncaster away in the 3rd round of the Carabao Cup as we look to defend our crown. In the Champions League we once again face Inter Milan, Gladbach and RB Salzburg. So far in the league after 5 games we have 4 wins and 1 draw.

  9. End of Season 1 Update

    Premier League: 4th

    UEFA Champions League: Quarter Finals

    FA Cup: Runners Up

    Carabao Cup: Winners

So a bit of a mixed season but I am happy that we did manage to get some silverware albeit the Carabao Cup. We was fighting for 4th spot with Man City (who fired Pep and brought in Wenger after a poor season) and Wolves. It went down to the final day where we only managed a 1-1 draw away at relegated Newcastle, luckily City also drew away at Brighton so we finished above them by 1 point and by 7 points infront of 6th placed Wolves who faded away in the last few matches of the season. In the Champions League we faced Liverpool after knocking out Ajax in the 1st Knockout round. We lost to Liverpool 2-1 on aggregate who went on to reach the Final but lost to Real Madrid. In the FA Cup we defeated the likes of QPR, Liverpool, Chelsea, Brentford, Arsenal on our way to reaching the final but Man City got there own back on us pipping them to 4th spot by beating us on Penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Transfer wise I am looking to sell Sissoko, Aurier, Rose and possibly Lamela. I will need to look at our CB options as Kehrer will go back to PSG after his loan ends. I've made Lo Celso's loan move into a permanent transfer. PSG have been sniffing around Kane all season so I am expecting them to bid for him so may need to try and find a replacement if he kicks up a fuss.

    Player Stats: (with Lloris missing!)

    20191116151329-1.jpg

  10. @Spike What tactics are you using and what role is Kane playing? 43 goals is a very very good return, I can only wish for such numbers!

@homebasedgg I am using a 4-3-3 but I've tried 4-2-3-1 and a 3-4-3. I've found the 4-3-3 seems to work best for me with the players I have at my disposal although i'd love to get a 4-2-3-1 to work as I have so many good attacking mids / forwards

@BuffaloPhil how has Bogle been performing and Bellingham? I've been looking at both on my save. Hopefully you can pick up the Carabao or Europa league and get that CL spot back too!

Just to provide a brief update in my save, I have reached March 2020. Only January signing was youngster Luke Matheson from Rochdale who has gone into my U23's. Didn't sell anyone as the players i've been looking at to replace them are not available yet.

I've progressed into the CL 1st round knockout round where we face Ajax, we are currently 2-1 up after the 1st leg in Amsterdam but I am confident we can progress at home. I've also won the Carabao Cup knocking out the likes of Sunderland, Leyton Orient, Arsenal, Man City and then Man Utd in the final. Into the FA Cup 5th round where we face Chelsea after knocking out QPR and Liverpool.

Sitting 4th in the league with alot of teams in and around us fighting it out including Wolves who are doing really well in my save.

Just out of interest for those who have reached the 2nd season, what has the transfer budget been like? trying to plan ahead for my transfer window and currently got £80m to spend with about £450k a week free in wages.

  11. Just got to October international break in my save. Sitting 5th after 8 games with 1 loss, 2 draws and 5 wins. Arsenal and Liverpool are both join top with 8 wins out of 8 so we are already 7 points behind the leaders. I'm struggling to get Kane to score at a rate that I feel happy with, he has 4 goals in 7apps in the PL which isn't bad but I just feel with those attributes that he should be getting more (he's currently 10th in the top goalscores for the league). In the Champions League I got a bit of a nightmare group consisting of PSG, Inter and Ludogrets. So far i've beaten PSG at home but lost to Inter away. Carabao Cup saw us beat Sunderland at home with a youthful side and we face Leyton Orient in the 4th round at home.

    Signings so far:

James Maddison - £35m - bargain Eriksen replacement

Thilo Kehrer - Season Long Loan as cover after selling Toby

Nathan Ferguson - £8m (now loaned out to Bristol City)

Also signed a number of 17 and 18yo's to boost my U18's and 23's

    Players Sold:

Christian Eriksen - £75m to PSG

Toby Alderweireld - £40m to Man Utd

    Victor Wanyama -£14.25m to Wolves

I will probably make Lo Celso's loan a permanent move and I am heavily scouting British talents as I look to rebuild the team over the next 2 to 4 windows. I am looking at the following options:

Goalkeeper - Would love to bring in a home grown keeper but there's only really Pickford who would be good enough and I'm not overly keen on him. May look to bring in Donnaruma or someone of that ilk to replace Lloris.

LB - Sell Danny Rose and buy Chilwell or Jamal Lewis to replace. Will keep Davies and Sessegnon as backups

CB - Ben Godfrey is my initial target here and will look to phase out Jan Vertonghen after this season (I gave him an extension until June 2021). I like Sanchez and Foyth and may just use Dier and Tanganga as 4th choice CB

RB - Max Aarons, Jayden Bogle and Atal are my shortlisted options here. Will look to sell Aurier and Walker-Peters may stay depending on budget.

Midfield - Looking at making Lo Celso's move a permanent and will probably look to cash in on Sissoko. I've been looking at either Lewis Cook or Sean Longstaff to replace Moussa. I'd love to bring in Declan Rice but don't feel I can have Dier, Skipp and Rice at the same time!

Attack - Not sure what I will do here, I'd love to bring in Sancho but this would push Son out. Lucas has done really well for me and I will probably sell Lamela in the summer. Trying to give chances to Troy so he can develop aswell. Have scouted Haland also for consideration.

I made a Spurs save in the beta to get going with this years new version of everything. Not managed to play so much yet but so far I sold Eriksen to PSG for £60m upfront + £2m in 12 month installments. I also sold Alderweireld to Liverpool (unfortunately...) for the £25m release clause and Aurier for £5m to Al-Ahli. I was desperate to get rid of Aurier basically at any price. So far the only one I have bought is Timo Kehrer from PSG for £5,5m! What a bargain.

I have not quite decided which formation I will be using but I'm leaning towards 5-3-2 WB and a classic 4-2-3-1.

Does anyone have any RB suggestions? :)

Atal (Nice) looks like a really good attacking Ring Wing Back with some potential to grow. Max Aarons looks a beast if you want a homegrown option or if you want a cheaper option someone like Jayden Bogle from Derby.

  13. Post #2 - Transfer Budget, Transfer Options

    Transfer Budget: £15m

    Wage Budget: £200k

    Possible Players to Sell:

Victor Wanyama starts off transfer listed and you can get around £18m/£20m for the Kenyan from the likes of Leicester. He is injury prone and you have Dier, Winks who can play as a DM and you also have Skipp in your U23's. It seems a no brainer to sell Victor.

Jan Vertonghen's contract expires at the end of the first season, you can get atleast £25m from China if you decide to sell in the first window. At 32, his stats will decline over the season and you have the likes of Aldewiereld (signed a new contract in this new patch), Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth, Tanganga and also Dier.

Michel Vorm was released IRL last summer but due to an injury to Lloris was resigning around October of 2019. His stats are really poor and is on £40k a week which for a 3rd choice keeper just seems a huge waste of money. Look to get him off the wage bill ASAP even if it's for no transfer fee.

Erik Lamela is another player who is very injury prone and you can try and cash in on him to help boost your transfer funds.

    Possible Players to Buy:

One of the glaring issues is lack of depth at both Full Back positions. Ideal players would be Ben Chilwell and Max Aarons as they fill the Club Vision of signing English Players, they will however cost significant sums. Layvin Kurzawa can be had for £3m as a cheap backup for the Left side or you could look at options like Alex Telles, Nicolas Tagliafico etc. For the right back slot, I would suggest looking at players such as Ricardo Perreira, Zeki Celik and Youcef Atal. Steven Sessegnon and Nathan Ferguson are other young english options if you are not looking for a ready made star.

For striker options, I would advise looking at the likes of Moussa Dembele (Lyon), Odsonne Edouard, Andrea Belotti, Arkadiusz Milik until better options appear in the 2nd season.
