  1. Red team makes a questionable tackle that the referee wants a closer look at and blows his whistle to stop play while blue team are inside the penalty box controlling the ball and attack . Referee decides the tacklle wasn't bad enough to warrant a card or penalty. Red team gets a free kick.

How can you defend that as part of the modern game?

It's poor game design and it'd be real nice if you rewarded your loyal playerbase with taking critisism instead of deflecting it arrogantly as you always do.

  2. But you play advantage until the ball is out of play unless it's completely obvious or outrageous. And if the review shows no foul, and i had the ball, clearly i should get the ball back in the position i was. I don't know why you are defending poor game design by unheard of scenarios.

It's not the fact i dislike VAR in any way. What i dislike is losing a ball i had at my feet in a dangerous position because the referee made a mistake blowing his whistle. That is not how it works.

I have found good use of the HB, Anchorman, and DLP(d) for that role. They all play a bit different.

The DLP(d) is the most aggressive and flows laterally to support the attack, while staying back to defend. With the regista, you shouldn't need that contribution.

The HB is best in systems where the central defenders are stepping out a lot to challenge opposing attackers or when they attack themselves -- like a WCB or Libero role. The HB drops into the hole that the CD creates and maintains the line. If he isn't needed to drop back, he will step forward to support the attack, and as a result can get caught out occasionally similar to the DLP(d). He also will step back and create a back 3 in defense, so in that regard he will change your defensive shape somewhat.

The anchorman just sits in front of the defense and holds the space. He is the least adventurous of these options. He makes an alright pivot, but is a bit too deep to be effective in that role. He will sometimes drop into a hole created by a CD being out of position, but not as readily as the HB would. In defense he tends to shield the central defenders and focus on shape, but you can also have him close down more and get stuck in if you want a bit more of a BWM role without committing all the way to a BWM.

Personally I would try the anchorman first. I think the role plays really well and if you are looking for a purely defensively focused DMC, their isn't much better that you can use. As a sidenote, when I play this role, I typically use a cross trained CD and find that it works well.

That said, I recommend trying the HB too. It's a bit different and could be better for what you want.

Also yes, while a dlp might be a good option because he's not going to walk into the CD position where i don't want him, he would also use the ball in ways that would hurt the regista

  4. Thanks for a very detailed and informative reply. I've jumped into a system where i use a regista, a cm on support and a carrilero on the left side where Theo Hernandez rushes forward completely oblivious to what defending is. It's working out ok, though the carrilero can walk a little further up than i'd like. I will try the 2-1 midfield instead with a cm on attack and a HB or Anchorman out :) Hopefully in a future fm game we can get an option within personal instructions to cover for a specific role when needed. Seems like a realistic function to have

  5. There is no physical way i can react within the 0.001 seconds before the " Change taker " box is gone again. It won't slow down the game by any sort of relevant value to just open a dialogue, asking me who should take it. Maybe there could even be a confidence or eagerness to take it system. If i'm up 4-0 with 3 minutes left, i don't need Franck Kessie with his 17 penalty taking to secure it. I'd rather give a chance to a youngster to get on the sheet and get a little jump forwards.

  6. Average positions is not in the Data Hub. You have to go into an individual match by pressing the score in your schedule, then dive into Team Analysis. I had to ask around on here to even find it. And i feel like it's almost a given it should be easily accessable in the Data Hub. It's hands down the best analytic tool in the game for adjusting your roles and finding a good shape.

  7. Hi fm friends.

I've a question that i have been having for quite a few years now, and i can't say i ever really found an answer.

I'm playing an assymetric possession football with a regista at the heart of things. I have completely left the right flank free of any winger, and instead im pushing up my wingback a lot because of his very competent crossing, supported by a mezzala for a shorter option to send the play back in towards the middle.

But My DM is my worry here. What role should i play him in to make him play in the same way that Henderson does for Liverpool, and slot in at right back to cover for Ceci?

My only real options here are either a DM, which might be a little less free to follow his common sense, or a BWM that will definetily push out and try to get the ball, but probably a bit mindlessly and recklessly at times?

I was really hoping they'd add some sort of instruction this year to " fill in gaps " on demand, rather than leave it to their best decisionmaking.

Anyhow, any help is appreciated on how i best cover for my wildly aggressive rightback.

  8. Hey :)

I love the new Data hub and i don't want to sound llike i don't. Great work!

However,, i would love to have some of the old data from Match analysis thrown into it, especially Average positions. it's ssuch a useful tool for adjusting roles, traits and individual instructions. And it's hidden pretty deep down into the menus now. Surely it can be thrown into the data hub as an option.

Or even better, a movement map for each individual player.

    Have a good one!

  9. I am playing as Schalke04 and we got promoted in our first season, so we are now back in the Bundesliga.

I have a lot of youth talent, but because of the lack of 4th tier i have no reserve team league play.

However, with EVERY single league and tier loaded, i cannot for the life of me get any loan moves for my players.

They are good, some even great players, who gain plenty of interest for transfer moves.

But noone willl take them on loan, not even for free.

I've managed to secure two loans in two seasons.

Thinking of it, i miss the Chinese and Middle east offer i used to get for just about anyone i transfer listed lol. None of that anymore :p

Anyone else having trouble with this?

  10. Hi. I have tried to load kits for Brazil for 2 days now, i think i'm going crazy.

Tried with the kits and names fix, tried without it.

I have the kits from known sites for Serie A - C, and a less known kit for lower division teams.

It just won't load. I've made sure the Id's are correct, i've tried recreating the xml's incase something was inacccurate.

All other leagues work perfectly, even the kit_textures for the lower league brazil teams work.

But the kits just will not load, beating my head against a wall.

Anyone else had these issues with Brazil specifically?

  11. Hey boss, i would like to suggest or request a minor feature.

I play on a 1440 screen and zoom in by 150 or 175.

The skin is absolutely amazing man, i don't mean to complain.

But would it be possible to make a sideway scroll bar on the Match UI?
Because of my higher resolution and such, i can't see my teams average rating or reactions to my teamtalk.
I know it's my own fault for using the settings i do, but it's how my game runs best without getting my eyes weared out.

I just really wish i could scroll sideways on the team stats, would improve my experience a lot.

    Thank you for the skin.

  12. I guess this is just a general question, not only applying to Valencia.

How do i grant control over the tactical choice and the selection?

I'm trying to strengthen my B-squad and also develop players that i have in mind.

But i can't seem to change the tactical system how i want to, and players i pick are rest seconds later, as well as the adjustments i make in positions.

It says i have control over squad selection, i can't find the good ol option where you force your backup teams to play the same system as the main team.

Do i really need to make another manager and take control over Valencia Mestalla B just to be able to pick players that have a future in the club ?

  13. Anticipation is now 12 in my save, only a few months in. Giving him extra training in Attacking Movement for OTB. I realize this is why he's not fully natural as a Regista, hence why i created the thread.

Wanted to know if it's something thats possible to fix.

I feel like with the attributes he has, putting him as a DLP will pacify a lot of those stats. As a regista his whole skillset is put to work.

I could be completely wrong, but again it's why i created the thread.

I could do the easy thing and play with the same idea in mind, but a libero instead of a regista. ( They seem to be easier to find, i've yet to see a perfect regista in FM 20. But i'd say in reality Tonali is one )

I just really like the Pirlo vibe that Tonali gives me. Huge fan of his.

  14. He has: Tries killer balls, Dictates Tempo, Does not dive into tackles, Tries long range passes, Brings ball out of defense.

    Incredible mentals.

But yeah, i just got worried because the new (helpful infact) clickables areas of the pitch said he had a low impact because of his role suitability.

Just wanted to know if anyone further into a save knew wether he becomes fully familiar.

Thank you for your input though, i will just keep him doing it and see how it goes 3-4 seasons in.

It's just fairly hard to get a non-cluttered midfield 3with a regista in it. I found a traditional "4-4-2" works better. But soaking up pressure and counter-attacking isn't ideal for the Regista role i guess?
