  1. Been trying to get an IF-At to produce the way I want him to, by being consistent. I've had multiple tactics and even though they score they just go missing in others, with possibly not enough opportunities for them in the right areas being an issue.

Does an underlap help within this tactic? My go to is to overlap as it makes the WB more aggressive but can see how it is counterproductive for the IF. Does underlap help feed through balls to the IF more?

  2. I have to admit I've struggled with Messi through the FM's.

Currently have him as a F9 this time though and he's banging in the goals, averaging more than a goal a game in around 30 games.

    ----------------------F9----------------------

    IF-At --------------------------------IW-su

    -------------AP-Su---CM-At-------------

    ------------------DLP-Su------------------

    WB-Su--BPD-De--BPD-De--WB-At

The theory was that he has the options of runners around him to either pass to or use as decoys for defenders to have to pick up. Relies on high pressing to work with no midfielder on defend so can be prone to counters but I'm ok with that as I love the way the DLP-Su works.

  3. Can someone explain to me how through the same season, I'm doing really well with this tactic below and then once the update has been in place I'm being overrun, every long ball seems to fall perfectly and my players seem to make silly mistakes often.

Final straw is when I'm top vs a team that have lost their last 6 games yet they're having more shots and chances than I am...

Defenders all have 14+ pace and strong positioning and it worked well previously. Was this a fluke before?

    Have you tried it?

Yes originally had DLP as AP but find he's not as available that way and has less space to work in. Had the RMD as a T but didn't give enough penetration. CF-Su seems to work less in terms of scoring vs attacking mentality but ends up being booted up to him and didn't want that.

Trying to see if anyone else could advise on role changes to improve.

What is the team's width setting in the attacking phase?

I set this to start with, fairly wide (positive mentality) but soon moved to fairly narrow. Couldn't get the pressing to work and in reality the passing play consisted more of long balls which isn't what I wanted.

What are the wingers instructions: cross more often, cross from byline, run wide with ball, stay wide?

Only ones I changed was to hold position which kind of worked in a way.

I actually tried the CM's but don't seem to get the right penetration. When I moved to the 2 AM's it worked surprisingly well so tried to work around that and dropped the wingers into the midfield spots rather than the AML/AMR. Made the DLP to Defend duty but there is just something I feel is off...

  6. I tried this tactic out last night with a few tweaks to TI's that I like to see but nothing major.

Little issue I found was at times the lack of width on the right with the IWB & IW combo but then in others worked really well to create an overload. Think my tweak tonight will be to make the IW to stay wider to try create a little more width at times. Liked the way the IWB worked and typically helped to stop the counter as well as worked as another passing option.

  7. This is really good - I've been struggling to perfect the way I want to play in formation and I've come close to what you're presenting here but just always find an issue I'm wanting to tinker with. I had issues when playing fairly narrow players would be to compact and made it hard to create chances and players to create their own space.

    Can I ask -

What is the reason for focus play down the right? What affect does this create?

Do you find the DLP has a lack of options with the IF-A and the CM-A? I typically find he's trying too many long range passes as players aren't close enough and end up changing him to RPM or AP but doesn't have the desired affect.

I very rarely play the offside trap (not too sure why). Does it push the line up a little more?

  8. 3 players in midfield are playmakers which means they'll all be attracted to the ball. I'd suggest changing at least one of them (maybe to AP-Su) to reduce it. A BBM may work well to create a bit more of a runner down that left hand side too.

3 playermakers paired with 2 BPD's too means you're probably taking a lot of risk with your passing, maybe look to make one a normal CB to reduce this too.

I'd experiment with your TI's too, maybe taking off shoot on sight to see if you're creating better chances rather than a lot of wasted shots. Worst case start from scratch and build up from there to what you want the tactic to be and find the instructions that don't work.

Final note is just to make sure the tactic suits your current players - does the AP-At for example have the attributes to run with the ball from deep and make the correct decision?

  9. I would try a control possession type tactic and sign technically proficient players. Less time off the ball should mean less running and fatigue, without the pressing and counter pressing elements. Make sure you have players back to avoid the counter as quick players won't be an option to get you out of the hole and maybe even defend wide to push them through the middle?

Will probably result in low scoring games but could be an option!

  10. Thanks for the replies, I've dropped the narrow width, low crosses and counter which seems to be working ok. When I try take off WBiB it just seems as though my long shots increase with no real upsides.

Dropped the LOE too a little but seems to give the opponents more freedom just to play through me as the initial press seems less effective. I think the counter to that though is more chances come my way.

I changed the DLF to a PF, swapped the attacking duties round on the left side and made my winger more attacking to try create an overload down that right, which seems to be working ok. Downside to that is my FB can be exposed to balls over the top so a guy with good heading seems essential there now.

I don't know whether its the players but even though I'm winning the majority is scraping through or just being inconsistent, beating A Madrid, Valencia then losing 4-0 to Levante. Will keep trying!

  11. I've been starting to build a tactic that looks at controlling a game, has a high press and looks to counter when winning the ball back. I've been trying it out with Real Madrid, with mixed results. Tactic is below -

Idea is to have a few runners for penetration but options around the ball carrier too. Front 5 have close down more urgently and mark tighter trying to press from the front.

Is there something glaringly obvious I'm missing or is it just about being patient and finding the players to suit?

So you can use a libero along with (another) playmaker role if you want, because nothing can prevent you from doing whatever you want. But the question is why would you then want to use a libero in the first place? Just for the sake of using it (because the role is sort of "exoitic")?

When I had both what I wanted was a role I saw Fernandinho play vs Arsenal last season, which acted as a CB out of possession but in possession stepped up out of that line and offered himself as a DM that didn't push up as much, which in the most part works when I sit a DLP in front of him rather than the alternative of a HB that I feel can be caught out too far forward at times. Was curious without the ability to play the game at this moment in time what changes in characteristics the libero has when a playmaker isn't there!
