  1. Luton 2nd season update

We had a brilliant and more importantly, injury free, pre season. The board told me to just concentrate on staying in the Championship but my players seemed to have higher aspirations! I never expected us to start the season so well, but there we were with some unbelievable results. The 3-0 home win against Cardiff was the best we've ever played as a team.

**Quick side note, I previously stated Barnsley were promoted along with myself and Charlton, I got this wrong, it was actually Walsall, doh!

By far our best player has been a new winger signed from Tromso by the name of Mikael Noro Ingebrigtsen. He has currently scored 19 goals and has 9 assists in just 25 matches. He's been absolutely insane for us. We have already turned down a £3,000,000 bid from West Ham for him (He was brought to the club for just £65,000 in the summer!)

We are currently on a 10 game unbeaten run and we are seemingly free-scoring. I play an attacking 4-2-4 formation, route one. I don't want to get carried away as on previous versions of FM I have been on runs like this and then not won for 10 games   Although when you've scored 41 goals in 10 games it's hard not to get excited!

We currently sit top of the Championship after 25 games, 6 points clear of Preston who are 2nd (and the only team to take points off us in the last 10! I have just signed an improved 3 year contract and, fingers crossed, Luton Town will be battling the big boys of the Premier League next season. But ssshh, don't let my players hear me say that yet... 1 game at a time and all that!

I previously mentioned my rivalry with Charlton manager Lee Bowyer... After beating them 5-1 at home for their 7th straight defeat he was duly sacked :brock:

  2. I've played 8 matches so far on the new patch and apart from a few too many long range goals I'm really liking it

Although my first match was my team Luton against Hull and it ended 5-2 to me. Both of Hull's goals were own goals, they also conceded an own goal, I had 2 players sent off, they had 1 player sent off and I scored a penalty. It was a crazy match but I suspect it wasn't too much to do with the new patch, just one of those freak matches! :)

Ps. Some people need to seriously re-evaluate their way of thinking. SI do a great job every year. What they do isn't easy and they will never be able to please everybody. Some of the comments I've read have been ridiculous. If you have a complaint that's fair enough but at least be constructive with it and not just pluck 'facts' from thin air.

  3. Luton Town end of first season review.

After beating Nottingham Forest 3-1 in the FA Cup 3rd round, I was eagerly awaiting the draw for the 4th round. And what a draw it was, Liverpool at home! Klopp made just one change to his team who were in 2nd place in the Premier League, in came Mignolet for Alisson.

We set up playing our usual 4-1-4-1 DM formation, but I decided to play deeper with a defensive mentality and go route one. Liverpool had 27 shots with 13 on target... We had 1 shot that was off target. Klopp would have been scratching his head as the game finished 0-0. Brilliant result for us!

The replay at Anfield was a different story and they beat us comfortably 5-0

We went out of the Checkatrade Trophy to Oxford and I wasn't overly bothered, neither were the board.

Back to the league, with 10 games to play we sat in 2nd place, 9 points behind Charlton and 5 points clear of 3rd placed Sunderland. Charlton lost just their 2nd game of the season against Burton, and lost they did! A 4-0 home defeat set them on their way to 1 point in their next 4 games.

With 2 games to play, we were 1 point ahead of Charlton. The next match?.. Charlton away from home! Lee Bowyer was telling the press that I didn't deserve my manager of the month award before the game. We took the lead in the 6th minute through a penalty. Charlton pegged us back level just before half time. The game reached the 3rd and final minute of injury time. Charlton made their final substitution due to an injury. Inexplicably we were still playing in the 96th minute when a moment of magic happened. Charlton's GK made a short pass to his central defender, who turned and met substitute Kazenga Lua Lua, who simply took the ball off him and passed it into the net. Charlton barely had time to restart the match when the full time whistle went.

Bowyer complained about the amount of added time in the press conference, I replied it was more than justified :D

We finished as champions and went up with Charlton and Barnsley, who won the playoffs.

Next season we face the impossible in the Championship, we are predicted to finish 23rd. I can't wait!

  4. A run of 5 games unbeaten came to an abrupt end for my Luton team with 2 consecutive defeats to 16th placed Rochdale and 23rd placed Wycombe. This saw us drop from 2nd in the league to 6th. Up next was a crucial must-win match against rivals MK Dons in the Checkatrade Trophy.

... We demolished them 7-1 with Danny Hylton scoring 4 goals, him having only scored 4 all season prior to this match.

This win seemed to bring new found confidence and we have since won 7 in a row in all competitions. We have a home tie against Nottingham Forest coming up in the FA Cup 3rd round. I am confident as Forest are struggling in the championship and have many first team injuries. The only downside being that my top scorer Jorge Grant is on loan from Forest, so is ineligible for the tie.

So on the whole, things are looking good. We sit 2nd in the league, 9 points behind runaway leaders Charlton. Luton has been my most enjoyable save for a long time!

A good start to the season, sitting in third and still in the Carabao Cup. Best of luck.

    Great, thanks for that! :)

I lost to Bournemouth on penalties after a hard fought 0-0 draw. Can concentrate on the league now!

  6. First update on my save as Luton Town. I don't have a clue how to post screenshots so words will have to do

I chose to start without the transfer window so there's no news of any new players. We won 5 out of our 7 friendlies, including a brilliant 2-0 victory over Sassuolo. We drew 2-2 with Hibernian and lost 3-1 against Sheffield United.

Our first league match was a rather difficult trip to Fratton Park to face Pompey. We were right in the game until a 44th minute red card for my defensive midfielder Glen Rae. This proved to be our downfall and we went on to lose the game 2-0.

Rae was banned for 3 games after the ban was extended. We had Sunderland at home next up, another tough game. We somehow found ourselves 2-0 up after just 18 minutes, both goals coming from Jorge Grant who is on loan from Nottingham Forest. We conceded from a corner in the 89th minute but went on to win the game.

Jorge Grant has gone on to score 4 more goals in the next 4 games in all competitions, knocking Oxford out of the Carabao Cup in the process. We currently sit 3rd in the league and have a tough trip to Bournemouth in the next round of the cup.

    Up the Hatters!

  7. Hi everyone, long time lurker - first time poster.

I usually always play as Burnley, hence the username. But with it becoming increasingly easier to manage the clarets, I've decided to try something new. So I've made the drop down to League 1 and I'm the proud new manager of Luton Town.

I'll be giving updates in due course :)  I can't wait!
