End of Season Update | June 2026 | Chippa Utd F.C. | Ivory Coast

    Target for the season achieved.

SA Premier Soccer League: Having already won the league last season, went into this just casually. However, ran the risk of losing my job early enough due to a battered number of injuries to the main team players one after the other resulting in a 9 game streak without a win including 5 losses and 4 draws. But once the player injuries stopped, the team picked itself into winning positions. Only lost 2 games for the rest of the season and at one point was able to draw the games even with 3rd level bench team playing top oppositions to rest the main players for the Champions League. Eventually finished 2nd in the league table.

SA S8 Cup: Lost in the Quarterfinal itself as this came during the initial injury crisis period.

    16bd15f018ca57d945105dc50f9137de.png

SA KO Cup: Again, not a preferred cup for the challenge, still managed to get to the semifinal only to lose in the extra time.

SA FA Cup: Once again, lost it in Quarterfinals, but haven't fielded a strengthened team here either.

African Champions League: Finally comes the only tournament relevant for this season to me. Made sure we field a strong XI for these games all season. Steamrolled the opponents in the preliminary and first rounds. Then got drawn in the group stage with 2 easy opponents and Sundowns. Was even able to beat Sundownd 3-0 at home. Other games were again easy.

Quarterfinal again was easy affair against Moroccan club WydadCasablanca. Faced Al-Ahly, the Egyptian giants in the semis Managed to draw 1-1 away and then got a comfortable 2-0 win at home to reach the final.

Final was against ES Tunis, the Tunisian giants who managed to beat Sundowns in their semifinal on away goals. It was an easy 3-1 win to secure the African Champions League title and strike off the one continental cup.

International Management: Managed to qualify for the World Cup 2026 with the Ivory Coast team and about to enter the World Cup in 10 days time. Hope we have a good enough tournament to keep me in the job for the AFCON 2027 which will be our major goal.

Challenge Progress: Happy to get everything needed from Africa using Chippa Utd F.C. Honestly didn't expect without taking over Sundowns job, but with crucial strengthening of the team, managed to pull them off. Will be resigning now and hoping to find a new job in some other continent. No preference to start with, but I think I can manage to find good enough jobs with the reputation I have now and also Continental A License.

End of Season Update | June 2025 | Chippa Utd F.C. | Ivory Coast

Outstanding season for the club winning 4 out of 5 tournaments 5 entered, and for the challenge to get rid off the SA Premier League out of the way.

SA Premier Soccer League: Lost only 3 games the whole season, especially with a great second half having a 16 game unbeaten record. It came down to the last couple of games to realize the opportunity of winning the league as Sundowns and Orlando Pirates both also in contention only for them to lose a game each more than us.

    13c28a98cbe4ec9c1c0d6e956ac361c7.png

SA S8 Cup: Was able to stream roll to final without much problem. And against Sundowns in the final, was an insane comeback. They went up 2-0 in 10 minutes. We stuck hard and made 2-2 by 70th minute. And then took it to the penalties. They missed one and we won our first tournament of the season early.

    32ba8e056810909028ce4f6735346e7a.png

SA KO Cup: Had an easy win in first round only to lose 3-4 to the eventual winners.

    e930cac346fe9ed6ffc8ff0f9c40a159.png

SA FA Cup: Coming in as the defending champions, Stream rolled all the rounds including the final against Sundowns who were in a poor run of form during the late season with fixture congestion.

    7749d9ec4152c5c66e447e982b868f8a.png

African Confederation Cup: Even though this doesn't count for our challenge perspective, we made sure to win this as well to give the club much needed boost in the finances and reputation to help compete well in the Champions League next season. I also made sure, we rotate the players wherever needed to prioritize the SA premier soccer league. Still we almost steam rolled opponents until the knockouts which have been hard but not hard enough to knock us out. Final was an all SA affair, with Kaizer Chiefs getting destroyed 3-0.

    e83cf24640ed3efd7e3f0eae915602bf.png

International Management: Being manager of Mali previously, took them to the AFCON 2025. We scraped through to knockouts being finished 3rd in the group but still making it as the best of the rest 3rd place finishers. However, the second round knockout game was against Morocco who destroyed us 4-1 and ended our campaign.

Post AFCON, few jobs came up and I took over the Ivory Coast who have a very good chance to win the AFCON next time (hopefully). Meanwhile they also are trying to qualify to the World Cup 2026.

Challenge Progress: Glad to strike off my 1st domestic league in the challenge. This Chippa Utd team is now ready to compete in the African Champions League next season. So not planning to leave this team for next season at least. However, if Sundowns job comes up, I will gladly take it as they have been too strong winning the SA Premier League 7 times in a row before us. Also they have won African Champions League 4 times in a row too including current season. Not sure if they still qualify to the Champions league being the defending champs. If they do and if their job comes up to me (highly unlikely). If not, hope Chippa can compete in the champions league ourselves.

Goal for Ivory Coast is to have a good World cup and try to win the AFCON 2027 in two years time.

Btw, I have continental B license now and studying for continental C license.

End of Season Update | June 2024 | Chippa United F.C. | Mali

    Wonderful season from club perspective.

SA Premier Soccer League: Didn't expect to win the league at any stage, but then thought I could compete for the title with the squad I had and with few more additions. However, I had a very bad start to the league at one stage having just 3 wins from 12 games including a 7 game streak without a win. However, with change of tactics and addition of a great GK during the January transfer window helped the club to come back to proper winning mentality and finish 4th in the league. Have had a chance to finish as high as 2nd in the league towards the closure of the league stage, but took a call to prioritize a certain cup competition over the league as I lost the chance to finish as league title winners way early into the league stage.

    2f95591a40248143ae38479ad2c29ce1.png

SA S8 Cup: Have lost it in first match itself against Sundowns who are still a stage high in terms of club strength.

    783a1b7690fc47043c4d1215609b019f.png

SA KO Cup: Was unfortunate again to be drawn against Sundowns in the first round itself and expectedly lost to them.

    a18d8a0b2f732656f464dbef31904e8b.png

SA FA Cup: Was able to get favorable draws in this competition and also fortunate to have this cup during my good run of form in the league. Avoided Sundowns somehow this time and they lost in QF against the eventual finalist. Once I reached quarter final and thought I have real chance to win this competition, and hence prioritized it over the league which paid off for the win in the final and to get my first club trophy of my career.

International Team Management: Finally was able to secure a job at international team management. Not really a great team but with Mali being a decent outfit in AFCONs, hopefully could be used as a stepping stone for bigger teams later. Currently managing them in AFCON 2025 qualifiers trying to qualify against Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Burundi.

    1207317473_MaliHire.png.796393f148a87e13cae7b868b72c0681.png

Challenge Progress: Glad and happy to secure a domestic cup to start making up the trophy cabinet room. Currently 6 days before my contract runs down, thinking if I should resign from this team and see if anything from a big team comes up. But actually, I don't see them popping up and so, with the additions that I have done to my team late last season, I am quite confident now that this team can compete for the title next season. Will see if I can strengthen even further to the existing squad to bolster those chances of league title.

As per the International team management, intrigued to see how this Mali management goes in for now. Hopefully I can get them to the main AFCON stage 2025.

    Guanghzou Evergrande: 2030 Review

My first full season in china has ended and it turned out to be near enough everything I wanted it to be. Having ended last season strongly I set about strengthening the squad to try and have a go at winning the Super League title. In fact my transfer activity was so well received that we actually began the season considered favourites with the bookmakers to do just that. Brazilian striker Edson Jose looked our best singing, joining from the Thai league in a deal worth a measly £1,000,000. Other than that we signed a host of free transfers and entered the season with a squad that looked very strong indeed.

    1517847313_SuperLeague.png.4bec3472bb4f726607741b46eb1592b8.png

As you can see we where indeed strong, dominantly so in fact. Nine of my players ended up being named in the Super League team of the season and I was awarded the Manager of the season award as well. Edson Jose was as impressive as I had hoped to, scoring a ludicrous 33 goals in just 31 league appearances. Our sole defeat came to our biggest challengers Shanghai Port in the fourteenth match, coming after we had won all thirteen previously and conceding just a solitary goal. We ended up cruising to the title with three matches to spare.

    1638196193_ChineseCup.png.ac2099fcf10831695d5d804664f37420.png

On top of the league crown we managed to cruise our way to the Chinese Cup as well, seeing off Shandong in the final. We were fortunate that the draw was kind to us throughout, but a comfortable 2-0 victory in the second leg at home (after a solid 1-1 away) meant we lifted our second trophy of the season.

The Champions League looks a disappointment for us but actually we put in a pretty decent showing. Beginning in pre-season we did well to get through the preliminary rounds, including knocking out the holders Gwangju of South Korea with a 3-2 victory. The group stage saw us qualify in 2nd place after an unbeaten 3-3-0 record before we lost out in the Second Round to Jeonbuk Motors in a narrow 1-2 defeat. As disappointing as it was our South Korean opposition went on to lift the trophy so it softened the blow somewhat.

All in all I’m really pleased with how things went and much as with Los Angeles I head into a new season with hopes of lifting the elusive Champions League crown. With the right movement in the transfer market I’m positive we can have a good go at it and I’m sure we can improve on this season. Thankfully I’ve chalked off both the league and the domestic cup here so I can literally put all of my focus into trying to win that continental silverware next time around.

The middle of the season saw me take my USA side to the World Cup in Australia. A tournament that would be won by Spain after a 1-0 victory over France. We entered the tournament hoping to do well and for me it was a case of matching the FA expectations of a Third Round spot so I can lead the side into next years Gold Cup. We beat Sweden 3-0 and Algeria 4-2 in our warm up friendlies and headed into the season with high hopes.

The Group stage was actually a huge disappointment for us and we were extremely lucky to qualify. We three away the lead against Ukraine to draw 1-1 late on just a few days after a late goal spared our blushes in a disappointing 2-2 draw against South Africa. Thankfully we qualified though and managed to see off the Ivory Coast after a 4-2 win in the Second Round. Having matched our target we were unfortunate to draw Argentina in the next round although we put up a fight. A 2-2 draw took the game to extra time before we conceded a goal late on to lose out 2-3 and exit the tournament.

I was pleased with our performance in reaching the targets set pre-tournament although we got extremely lucky that two draws managed to get us through the Group Stage. We put up a really good fight against Argentina though showing that we do possess a fair amount of quality. Hopefully we can go into next years Gold Cup and win it having lost out last time out to Mexico in the final. I’m almost certain to resign after that tournament anyways, it would just be nice to leave with my first piece of silverware at international level.

End of Season Update | June 2023 | Chippa United F.C.

Well, I was able to get a job at Chippa United F.C. on 12/16/2022, half way through their disastrous start to the season.

    918813022_ChippaUtdHire.png.3146f062ecd0b70eab289bf8ce02a683.png

SA Premier Soccer League: Well, with dead last in the league position when I took over, we notched up 7 wins in a row. At one point we got 11 wins out of 13 games as well. Was able to play an attacking playstyle with the squad available and bringing in couple of additions during the transfer window, we challenged for the title at one point only to lose the momentum towards the end after getting knocked out in the SA cup and immediately going on a 3 match losing streak in the league as well and ending up with losing 4 games out of last 5 league games.

However, I will take 6th place finish especially considering where were we in December when I took over.

    8d912c98f0f6127cb2d0a5cda9ffd0e2.png

    Cup Competitions:

They got eliminated in both SA Super 8 cup and SA Knockout Cup before I took over. However, I had the chance to get something out of the SA FA Cup. Expectedly was drawn with easier opponents and considering they were during the purple patch when I was on a winning streak, secured easy wins in First and Second rounds. However, I do not know what happened, and got hammered 3-0 in the Quarter Final by a team that went on to get relegated from the league. This loss triggered a losing streak in the league as well.

    7e0783ecf808dc793799abbd398c487b.png

Challenge Progress: Planning to stay at this club for next season and see if I can try to challenge for the league title or any of the cup competitions by any chance. The squad looks great, but needs small reinforcements in the defense to plug in the holes. The reason to stay at the club and not pursue jobs with any better clubs in the league is mainly due to not taking another chance at getting fired. Instead will try to win something with this club and resign at the end of the contract next season to a better club if needed.

Haven't found any International jobs yet, not sure what's wrong with them. Haven't got a chance to apply for any of them either.

Also, able to complete National B License and currently studying for National A License.

End of Season Update | June 2022 | Cape Town Spurs F.C.

SA National First Division: Well, a great first proper stint at a club and boy has it been with roller coaster swings. Took over the club being at 8th in the league at half way stage of 15 games played. Won 11 games out of 12 next games to go top of the table. And then the final two games ended up as losses (one of them against the eventual champions). Still managed to finish 3rd in the table and qualify to the SA Premier Playoff Mini League.

    cb996e70c5730ec6850ff2c2e9522ace.png

Managed to win 2 games in the playoffs and a draw ensured we qualify to the SA Premier Soccer League next season.

    0907b391dfb796b733a932f907543251.png

Even though we managed to get promoted, being a cashless club with 0 transfer budget and negative payroll budget, made up my mind to resign and look for top SA Premier Soccer League club jobs. However, being a rookie, just before resigning, went and applied for SuperSport Utd club job being available. So got fired immediately :D Should have waited for two weeks as my contract was over ore should have resigned immediately but got the karma hit me by getting fired :)

SA FA cup: Was able to take them to Quarterfinal only to go missing and lose 3-0 to a much poorer opponent.

    d666b093663764ae6bc05c2834ced2a9.png

    Challenge Progress:

Well, two jobs and two firings later, the profile looks dirty, but still with 64% win percentage, hopefully that should make my reputation not bad enough to find another job. Currently holidaying somewhere in a beach with the mis-clicked finger being nursed while waiting for new jobs in the SA Premier Soccer League to pop up. (SuperSport Utd didn't hire me).

And also, got somehow to National C License.

Haven't got any national team jobs either yet.

ok then, with 2months in, I got this job in Chinese First Division League after a weird firing of their existing manager. They were predicted to finish 2nd or 3rd in the division. With 4 games left, they are currently in 7th position with just 3 points behind the playoff spots. Two of those games are against the teams directly above them and hence should be good ones to win. Surprisingly enough, they won the 2 games after their manager was fired with one of them against the table toppers.

Honestly hope I can take them to playoffs and somehow get promoted. If not, I will keep looking for other jobs meanwhile. Using this to pass the game time and also get some coaching badges which they agreed for during the hiring interview.

Well this didn't end well, as I played the remaining 4 games of the league hoping I can get the team to the playoff spots for promotion, but we could only get 1 win from them. Hence I started applying for other jobs and hence they fired me :D Went on holiday for a month and was able to find CT Spurs job who were languishing at 8th position in SA National First Division Has the potential to get promoted through playoffs if not win the title.

Decided to start again had a few interviews but only jobs offers were the Chinese 2nd division which only had a few games of the season remaining. Didn't fancy waiting 5 months so turned them down. I applied for every job and was shocked to be offered the Cameroon job. They had a disaster qualifying for the world cup but wre the host nation in the AFCON starting in January. It felt unrealistic but i decided not to look a gidft horse in the mouth. The squad was ageing but had some immense quality Onana in goal, Augussai brilliant box to box and some decent strtiker like the evergreen Chupo Moting. We had one warm up game before the AFCON against DR Republic Congo, we won comfortable 3-0 playing a direct 433 dm. So onto the tournament where were were drawn against Cape Verde, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia I was confident we could get out of the group

So it proved, we were rarely troubled winning all 3 games without conceding a goal

We faced Tunisia and felt confident we would win this game having a superior squad and so it proved right Auggasi was excellent as a box to box. The whole team performed well. We did concede a later goal but managed to hang on for the win where Nigeria were waiting for us in the semi final

    Semi Finals (if applicable)

I toyed with the idea of changing our direct high press 433 and change to a counter attacking 442 and i was worried about the threat from Nigeria they had some strong players and the conditions were 31oc. Decided not to change anything and it worked a treat. We faced into a 2-0 early lead thanks to two goals from Lyon Toko, who returned in the semi has being injured in the group. At half time decided to knock down our pressing and tempo with the conditions and we comfortable 3-0 victory.

Other semi was Senegal or Ivory Coast. I really didn't fancy our changes against Mane ands co but they were beaten by the Ivory Coast

    Final (if Applicable)

      Hide contents

I felt we could beat the Ivory coast, the conditions were perfect for our pressing game. We had to leave our left back out as he was too tired. Our captain was also tired but is essential to our tactic so i left him in. We dominated the game but couldn't find a break through. Just before full time Kessie was read cared so thought we could avoid the lottery of pens. Unfortunately we couldn't find the break through. Most of out players were nervous going into pens so i was worried. However we have Onana one of best keepers in the world and his 2 pens and our players holding their nerve meant we won. So one of the international cups out of the way very early before ive even took a club job.

What next. The team is ageing and with them not qualifying for the world cup I see no reason to stick around. Next step is to take a club job and work my way to my badges while keeping an eye on any international opening which might offer a chnace to win some silverware.

Profile below so not to spoil the progress of Afcon

    Great start to the challenge.

Ok then, Starting the save now. Glad I played this save last two months on FM20 and enjoyed it.

Bought FM22 and here we go !!

ok then, with 2months in, I got this job in Chinese First Division League after a weird firing of their existing manager.

Well, yes that's true. 'Updates' which is effectively what the full release would be, aren't save compatible, but to be honest, given the length of the challenge, the vast majority of the players you'll be utilising won't be real anyway.

I'm not aware of any 'game-breaking' bugs, but I haven't really been looking for them. Instead I've just been reporting the bugs I've found. The nature of the first few days of the beta is that there are hundreds of bug reports, some of which might not be bugs at all, and some of which may be so minor it beggars belief, (one of my reports for instance).

Also, the nature of this challenge is that game breaking bugs won't become apparent in the first few seasons, such as problems with adding / subtracting nations or competitions that stop working. They may crop up in a week or two.

I'm not saying that those bugs exist, or are even likely, but they're the kind of bugs that have caused problems for us in the past, (again, not recently. The game has been relatively free of serious bugs for the last few years, though I promise you that is not a universally held opinion).

If anyone starts the challenge now, they'll probably be ok, but waiting until the full release is probably marginally wiser.

Completely agree, nature of our save makes it not impacted due to these early bugs if any.

Thanks @SK I appreciate that. I'm about to begin my attempt, has anyone else started on FM22 yet? @vikeologistyou didn't find any issues during your test save? I'm excited but full of trepidation. I don't think I will be able to get as close as I did on 21!

I assume if there are any attribute changes to players etc. in the full game release, they won’t add to your existing save. So I am thinking of waiting for the full game to start my challenge save

  12. I enjoyed this challenge, even though I have only picked this up couple of months ago and also only using FM20. Achieved couple of trophies, not a lot, but this helped me enjoy FM again.

Now with FM22 releasing, I am looking forward to get that and restart the challenge in FM22 afresh.

If anyone want to help me, any basic skins/kit/badge/team name packs that you recommend to get better UI or do you suggest leaving them as it is?

Career Update | Feb 2027 | Atlanta United FC | Ivory Coast

A long delay in update after getting fired from Shandong in China. Was dwelling offers from different clubs while managing Bosnia & Herzegovina in their European International league. After 7 months, Genoa CFC came up with an interesting offer being 15th in the league table with 6 games left in the season. Thought they would give fair chance for me next season and accepted the offer only to lose the final game and finish 18th and get relegated. Obviously they fired me immediately :D Just a month of club management. And the search started again.

Atlanta United looked as a good proposition to win something in the NA. Joined them in Nov 2025. Did a couple of good transfers, but mostly their existing squad was good enough  except when injuries occurred.

MLS 2026: I was clear first in East conference with just needing 6 points from last five games to finish at the top. Won only one of them and lost the first spot as well as a direct entry to semi final by Goal difference :( The final month's loss of form didn't help in the playoffs either where I lost in the first round itself. However, it was very successful season where I dominated the whole season and all stat areas.

US Cup: Won fourth and fifth round against non MLS teams only to lose on penalties against Houston Dynamo in the Quarter Final.

International Management: Bosnia didn't excite me as they were didn't qualify to the World Cup. As soon as I took over Atlanta United, three days later, Ivory Coast popped up for an offer to manage. They have qualified to World Cup and also are about to play AFCON qualifiers. Looked a great option.

World Cup 2026 - Was drawn against France and Qatar in a relatively straight forward group. Demolished Qatar and lost against France as expected and qualified to Second round as second place in the group.

    cfdbb2be30ce580b1caf33e0d7b7cc22.png

Drawn against England in the Second round, pushed them to ET and won it 2-1 in the ET. Third Round was against Italy. drew 1-1 after extra time and then lost in the lottery of penalties. Not a bad world cup performance. ( Italy were the eventual winners of the world cup. Chile were the surprise package as the runners up)

    686ca99bed8c600f8dc9fb4caca7d16a.png

AFCON Qualifiers: Immaculate qualifying performance with 6 wins from 6 games in a easy group.

    5617163d2ac2d841aa24c501d350925b.png

AFCON 2027: Another easier group stage and unbeaten record with 2 wins and a draw, qualified to knockouts as top seed.

    db71a0feccea292d947c62d1ca54a8e5.png

Second round was a comfortable win against minnow Angola with 2-0 score line. Then came the Quarterfinal against fellow powerhouse Ghana. A scrappy 1-0 win was all needed to go to the semis. Then came the match of the tournament against Algeria in the semifinal. It ended 6-4 with both sides attacking end to end. A well deserved win put us against Mali in the final being the surprise winners of the other semifinal against Nigeria.

The final failed to lived up to the semifinal game and we ended up thrashing Mali with 6-1 score line. Wonderful performance to win the African Cup of Nations and my 1st International tournament of the challenge.

Challenge Progress: Glad to get my 1st international tournament checked off. Will be continuing with Atlanta United for this season to see if I can try to win either US cup or NACL if possible. MLS playoffs will be bonus but it takes a lottery at the end to win that.

Not sure about continuing with Ivory Coast, I might continue as the current squad is very good but the next world cup is in 3 years time, that's a long way. May be I will move onto some other team in another continent if chance presents itself.

It's nit because the Supporters Shield is a combination of conferences. It's just the way that American sports are. You have a regular season which controls places / home advantage for playoffs.

Like, I'm a (proper) Football fan, and my team, the Vikings (in case you always assumed my username meant that I like to rape and pillage or collect Nazi tattoos) have never won the Superbowl. We've won our conference quite a few times, and our division even more often, but basically we have never won anything. Ever, and we're not the only one. In Football every year you have 1 winner and 31 losers.

In fact MLS is the exception with these extra cups. It's very Oprah. You get a cup and you get a cup.

So, Atlanta is in the US, so you don;t have to worry about the Canadian thing.

Basically you have to win the thing on the left (the league) and/or the thing on the right (the cup).

The thing in the middle doesn't count towards the challenge. Finishing high or even top will obviously be an advantage in The MLS Playoffs, but if you 'win' the MLS Supporters Shield, but don't win the playoffs, you haven't won the league for the purposes of the challenge.

Which is good news for you, because you did not win the Supporters Shield. Now you just need to beat Chicago and everybody else who has the temerity to try to come between you and the title.

I will edit the start of the thread to make it clearer. Maybe FM doesn't have the right to use the proper names for the competitions. My bad. I don't play in America, and when I do, I stop playing in America real quick.

Thanks @vikeologist. That clears the doubt.

Yeah, I get that the Supporters' Shield shouldn't count towards anything, as that is a combination of two conferences, but not all teams play against all others.

The Conference' League Final winner should count as the league winner which is now clear from the explanation.

P.S. I was clear first in East conference with just needing 6 points from last five games. Won only one of them and lost the first spot as well as a direct entry to semi final by Goal difference :( Well, may be I just have to beat Chicago in the Quarters' who were one of the teams beat me in the final five games.

  16. I didn't understand the below part regarding the challenge, can anyone help me understand.

MLS (USA) - For challenge purposes the MLS Cup counts as the league, and the US Open Cup counts as the cup. The Canadian Championship unless you have the official Canadian league add-on), and the league section of the MLS (Supporters Shield) don't count for anything. Neither does the Leagues Cup with US and Mexican teams count towards the challenge.

I am in FM20, so what does these competitions known? I am with Atlanta United currently, and this is how they look like.

Challenge Progress Update | Sep 2024 | Shandong Luneng Taishan | Bosnia & Herzegovina

Well a nightmarish experience in china. Joined Shandong being at 6th place with 8 games left in 2023. Couldn't improve their league position from 6th.

Did a 200M transfer business and thought I had the team to perform well only to realise the foreigner rules impacted my transfer business and first team selections massively. Struggled to perform better and lingered in mid table pretty much whole time. 8th in the league table and with couple of ultimatums from the board, got fired eventually in Sep 2024 being at 8th in the table with 6 games left in the season. The FA cup performance was better, being qualified to the final only to not play it now as I got sacked now.

Oh well, will search for some other country, I don't think China is for me with the overseas transfer rules.

Meanwhile, Bosnia & Herzegovina came in for me, and I felt it is a good start for management in Europe. They were just out of Euros when they approached for me. Only have European International League games in the schedule, hopefully I can get the WC qualifiers soon.

End of Season Update | May 2023 | Jomo Cosmos F.C.

SA Premier Soccer League: What a sensational season this has been. With all the improvements done to the team and personally deciding this would be my last season with this team and SA (even though I have renewed my contract just before this season started for two years), the season was a roller-coaster ride till the last day. Was comfortably leading the title race till February with only 1 defeat and only 2 draws in 16 matches. However, with other competitions impacting the work load of the first XI and few injuries, lost 3 straight games in February to let the advantage given away to my fellow title racers Wits and Sundowns. They both kept me in check till the final day of the season. With 4 games left in the season and I had to play both Wits and Sundowns, I more or less thought it won't be easy to win the title. I lost 1-2 to Sundowns to give the advantage away to them. So the only way I can win the title without other help was to win all my 3 games at the end with Wits playing us on the final game. However, Kaizer Chiefs held me to a boring 0-0 draw to make me give up the title race. The final game was a win of 2-1 against Wits. The only way I can win the title is for Sundowns to not win their final game somehow been scheduled a day after my last game.

I had the privilege to attend and watch that tense game. A draw is enough for them to win the title. However, my mastermind was the opponents' Midfielder B.Gumede who was loaned out by me in the Jan Transfer window. He had a sensational game for his own team by putting his body on the line and blocking shot after shot in the box. Almost scored himself a winner too. He had 3 body blocks in the final injury minute of 93rd to end the game a draw of 0-0 and let his owner team Jomo Cosmos lift the title in a dramatic manner.

SA Knockout Cup: Lost in penalty shootout against Maritzburg Utd in First round. Disappointed not to make a fight out of this competition.

    2976f3e8848d29ff254c9a51d7389e52.png

SA FA Cup: Thrashed my First round and Second round opponents easily with 3-0 and 4-0 score lines. Then won 1-0 against Bloem Celtic in Quarter Final. But lost out to SuperSport Utd in a disappointing fashion with 0-1. Thought I could at least make it to the final and try to win this.

    25ac5f843838e49f65f280d359ce808e.png

SA Super Eight Cup: This one was an easier ride till the final where I was thrashed by Sundowns 0-3.

African Champions League: Wonderful season and a win that came with a huge long final penalty shootout against the best club in Africa - Al-Ahly.

Thrashed my preliminary and First round qualifying round opponents with 17-1 and 12-1 score lines. Group Stage was again was comfortable and the icing on the cake was thrashing Al-Ahly in one of the group games for 4-1. Fittingly, the only loss in the campaign came in the return leg of the group games, where I was beaten 0-2 by them.

Quarters and Semis again were very easy wins of 6-1 and 9-1 score lines and put us against Al-Ahly for a final showdown.

The final was going along nicely with 2-0 up till 60minutes. Then came their goals first in 69th minute and then the equalizer at 89th minute. Both the extra times were eventless with no goals. And then started the long procession of penalties. Both the goalkeepers saved one each during the initial 5 penalties pushing the game to sudden death that only finished after 30 penalty kicks. Eventually my keeper saved another one to end the procession at 14-13.

Challenge Progress: Delighted to win both the League and the Champions League from Africa. Missed out on the cup but not bothered about it. Willing to resign from this team and look out for some other continent. With already Continental B license secured and A about to be done in a month and also, with the Continental success, I am assuming I can find a relatively good team either in Asia/NA or even Europe for that matter.

Not thinking of International management again after the Uruguay sacking yet, but then will eventually take up something after I sort out the club management.

End of World Cup Update | Dec 2022 | Uruguay

Well, a disastrous world cup campaign, with a draw and two losses, I deserve the sacking immediately.

    bb2b6951cf5fe8ec72cca8f6345e2c67.png

No surprises regarding other results mostly, France won the world cup with a boring 0-0 final followed by a penalty shootout.

Will see what I can get post world Cup, in terms of the International side management. Meanwhile, the Jomo Cosmos is living up to the expectations so far at least in the league. Update end of the season coming.

    End of Season Update | July 2022 | Jomo Cosmos F. C. & Uruguay

SA Premier Soccer League: Consecutive season finished 2nd in the league. Early season form of drawing many games kept me out of contention for the title early, Made a contest out of it till the end especially last 4-5 games, but those early draws eventually weren't enough.

    c2a190ca3222277a93c17fa83e11cc38.png

SA Knockout Cup: Knocked out in first round itself but without any fight. Was able to push the game to extra time with 2-2 and then to penalties. Got denied in penalties by 5-3.

    92924baf77291488990f6c2b262d05fe.png

SA FA Cup: Another cup, another first round exit. Casually lost to a weak team 1-0.

    a26e3318756248dd6d52964d7117280e.png

SA Super Eight Cup: Was able to win the Quarterfinal albeit only in extra time, but then lost in the Semi Final against Wits 1-2.

    a1a32c20e908b531685dcada455b8b79.png

African Champions League: Was able to win the Preliminary Round and First Round Qualifications fairly comfortably. Then got drawn in the group stage against one of the eventual finalist. Still finished second in the groups by thrashing the other two easier opponents and then lost the Quarter Final to eventual winners of the competition. Good tournament, hopefully could win next time.

    bd0eb993cb3a71e9231eef74f74df1be.png

Uruguay: Lost many games than I anticipated in the World Cup Qualifiers, but still was able to finish 3rd in the league table behind Argentina and Brazil. Looking forward to the winter World cup in 4 months time, with a relatively tough group draw. Don't think I can push forward from this group to the knockouts.

Challenge Progress: Able to complete Continental B License just before this season ended. Will be starting to study for Continental A License. This would be my final season at Jomo Cosmos F.C. and Uruguay. Will see if my squad can win the League this season with some improvements and also will try to strike off whatever cups I can including AFC if possible.

Not having many expectations on the World cup anyway.

End of Season Update | June 2021 | Jomo Cosmos F.C.

SA Premier Soccer League: What a first season of club career this has been. Taking a newly promoted team into the season and finishing 2nd in the SA Premier Soccer League and getting qualified to Champions League next season. We were in contention for the title till the last but one game week. Only conceded the race with 1 game to go. Well, next season it should be.

SA Knockout Cup: Very early in the season, with not used to my tactics yet and new players not settled in, this wasn't planned to be performing good. Deservedly, knocked out in Quarter Final.

    66b3ddd6a763bdffbb9ecf08e3569f2a.png

SA FA Cup: Was in a great form when this cup started, took the same form into this tournament too. Ended up winning all the knockout stages comfortably. It was deservedly matched up final with two best clubs in the league compete here for the FA Cup final. Ended up losing this one too for SuperSport Utd.

    7be1f345f6825b5dcbb007af5987243c.png

Challenge Progress: Completed National B license too and currently studying for National A license. Planning to stay at this club for atleast an year more, want to push for the title with the current squad and few additional depth added to the team. Also, will try and compete in Champions League to see how it goes.
