Results: Premier League ~ Champions League ~ Domestic Cups

We comfortably went on to secure the Premier League at our second attempt we were 9/12 points clear for the majority of the second half of the season. I really like the team we've built here and I think they could go on to dominate for a while. As for the domestic cups we were very poor losing to Southampton and Grimsby respectively. I'm really annoyed at those results and I will look to take the domestic cups more seriously next season now the league is out of the way for this challenge.

As for the Champions League after turning round a first leg defeat against Real Madrid I was starting to feel confident, unfortunately we lost in the next round on penalties which is slightly frustrating as we dominated the first leg against Juventus, they somehow cam away with a draw. I'm hopeful we will avoid games like that in the latter stages next season so we can go all the way and win it. If I win a domestic cup next season and not the Champions League I may well look to move on as there are other decent teams in Europe I can win the Champions League with.

As for my team as mentioned I won't be making to many changes next season I'm very happy with this squad there are a few players I will look to move on in Mount and Wright. Other than that maybe a couple of loan deals as I have 3 really good left wingers (one is currently on loan at Real Madrid getting plenty of game time), and I have a couple of centre midfielders out as well who I may continue loaning out.

@Crowy Great going, getting English Premier league this early 👏🏻 Next season could be for the cups and then to better European countries for UCL probably.

    Manchester United: 2076/77 Review

If I’ve referred to previous seasons as a disappointment then this one purely takes the biscuit. I’ve actually never been as humiliated on this game as I am right now.

    Table.png.fb099fe99785f34ec2cd28e9f77b7810.png

The lack of a proven goal scorer ends up costing us as a potentially superb season ends up with us falling short. All the jokes about my City side beating my United one proves true as we are pipped right at the end to finish second. I’ve never been so humiliated in my life and am left pondering as to even continue with this challenge. United have dominated football until I’ve got my hands on them. A truly shocking campaign ended with us pipped into second after the penultimate round of games.

On top of that we lost out in both FA cup and Champions League Quarter finals as well as a League Cup semi. A humiliating season without a trophy and proven my ineptitude as a manager. I am truly heartbroken and left pondering as to even continue with this challenge. I’m utterly embarrassed right now. Jokes were made but they’ve ended up proving as a true. I have turned dominant title winners into a laughing stock.

    Mid Season Update | Jan 2021 | Jomo Cosmos F.C. | Uruguay

Wonderful start to the season with Jomo Cosmos, currently sitting in 3rd position at the mid way of the season with 16 games played. Even though the season preview has predicted us to finish 10th in the table, the board expectation was only to avoid relegation. So, with that mind, I had raided the fellow league team Bidvest Wits for 3 first team players, a versatile defender (mostly plays as RB) that can play anywhere in the defense and midfield, a Central Defender, a Attacking CAM and a Striker albeit 18yr old is a star forward. These 4, combined with another free transfer for a Center Back has strengthened the team very effectively. In fact, the defense combining these transfers with an existing wonderful Goal Keeper has made the team best defense in the league so far, with 9 clean sheets and only 11 goals conceded. There is no lack in creativity up front either with everyone pitching in with goals.

The SA KO Cup was a success as well with reaching Quarterfinal on the first time of asking and it met the board's expectation. However, the only issue is with the payroll and trasnfer budget. Have spent almost everything for those transfers, so not hopeful if I will be granted something for next season if I finish way ahead of their expectation.

The Uruguay's World Cup Qualifiers are going good with winning 3 games and losing 3 games after the Copa America tournament. The team is placed 3rd currently in the table with 6 games to go.

    Career Update | July 2020 | Uruguay

A busy year so far with both World cup qualifiers and Copa America games for the Uruguay National team. We were sitting at 2nd position in the World Cup Qualifiers League table when I took over with 3 clean sheet wins over Ecuador, Peru and Chile and a 1-2 loss to Brazil. What followed was a very bad start to my management with a 0-3 thrashing from Argentina and a 1-1 draw to Colombia. This took us down to 5th position just out of Qualifying spots. However, both those games helped me get used to the team, tactics and players. Muslera being the No.1 keeper and injured for those two games as well impacted the team performance.

     1cd821401980cebcaf9f1784bb7e7904.png

So, Uruguay went into the Copa America way below expectations. Fortunately we were drawn in an easier group with no Argentina or Brazil in our group. The campaign started with a comfortable 3-1 win over Bolivia, only to get drubbed by Australia and Colombia 1-3 and 1-4 score lines respectively. Next followed was a must win game against Paraguay and the players showed to get a 2-0 victory. With the qualification to Quarters more or less sure, the final group game was again a 1-2 loss to Chile scraping us to the knockouts barely at 4th position in the group.

    f866bebb5ec63d81ad9770f5cae73c4c.png

Because of that, I do not have any expectation in the knockouts, However, we faced Peru in Quarterfinal, the 4th positioned team from Group A. The match went full time with 1-1, a scrappy affair with both the goals coming before 30th minute and then both sides defending the goal for the rest of the game. What followed was a fantastic penalty shootout with no outfield player missing their pens. Muslera shot his pen as well before saving the penalty from his counterpart. A monumental 11-10 Penalty shootout put us into the semifinals.

The semis was against Brazil who were on a unbeaten 13 match win streak. However, we went attacking and both the teams were completely attacking the whole game. With Godin, Gimenez and Muslera defending for the entire game fantastically we were able to stop Brazil from scoring with their 22 shots of which 9 were saved by Muslera. We had our share of shots as well with 13, even though Cavani's header was controversially ruled out for offside at 14th minute, we were able to manage a goal just before the HT from Stuani. That was enough for us to push through to finals against another powerhouse Argentina.

Argentina was too much for us, and ended up losing 2-5. The score line was an aberration considering three of the 5 goals came in the injury time after 90th minute.

I will take being runners up for the first tournament I am in. Planning to continue with Uruguay as of now until the World Cup 2022. Despite Luis Suarez retiring from National duty after the Copa America, the squad is looking so good especially with the youthful midfielders like Bentancur, Valverde, Nandez and Nico Lopez.

Club management is still looking far with no teams accepting my applications, will have to see to resign from Uruguay if this is the case in 6 months time.

  4. Well, after a quick turn around of 4 losses from 4 games with Zimbabwe, (two of them in AFCON Qualifiers), dropping them from 126th to 131st in World Ranking and umpteen number of rejections in the Tier 1 leagues of the nations, I was simming along to Jan 1st 2020 hoping for the Chinese and Mexican Tier 2 leagues to load in and open up for jobs.

Suddenly, Uruguay had their Manager retired after 13 years and when I applied, they liked my profile (  ) and hired me as their new manager in a high stakes year for them where they will be competing in COPA AMERICA and also in World Cup Qualifiers. :D

Well not sure how I got this jackpot, Uruguay being a 5th ranked Nation in the World, great start to the WC qualifiers and with a stacked player pool for the internationals. Hope this goes fine and not affect my club career whenever it starts :)

Yes, when the challenge started 7 years ago, it was just about possible to get a job at a top division club in China or S Africa, (not that taking those jobs was always a good idea as they were often in a total mess), but it's become gradually harder to get a first job, so yes, you aimed a bit high. Never mind.

I deliberately don't say at the start of the thread which leagues / divisions one can start off at. It would be kind of spoilerish. Honestly most people start off much lower than they need to, and thus waste time, so I commend your ambition.

It is S Africa and China where you're most likely to be able to get a job at the 2nd division down. You should eventually be able to get a first job there, though not necessarily every one that becomes vacant.

Agreed, I just aimed high to see if I can get something in S.Africa or China in first division. Anyways, Zimbabwe is keeping me busy with friendlies until the lower divisions load in couple more months :)

  6. Ok, May be because I didn't add second divisions of the nations that I added, I am yet to find a club to manage even after applying to every offer that came along. However, Stumbled upon Zimbabwe as my first International team(first team as such :D) to manage. Not planning to stay here for long as they were just of the World Cup qualifiers, but might push for AFCON 2021 based on how my qualifiers go.

Hopefully, soon I find a club to manage as well.

More the merrier @b4usiddhu2 I don’t see why you’ve left too short a time or wouldn’t be welcome in here. I still don’t think I’ll complete it yet either and I’ll definitely be beginning it again on fm22. Most fun I’ve had on a save in years and a really unique challenge and idea. I look forward to seeing your updates. I do believe manager has to be as young as allowed though as pretty much the only requirement. Need confirmation from @vikeologistthough.

Thanks @goonergez for the welcome. I will use this atleast as a test and warm up for FM22.

    6 hours ago, vikeologist said:

    1. You can do it on any version (from FM15 onwards I think). If and when you do achieve, please mention that it was FM20 for Hall of Fame purposes.

    2. I think most people do take more than 3 months to complete the challenge, but people do play at wildly different speeds. I play FM a lot, like way too much, and it would probably take me a year to complete the challenge more or less. The difficulty of the challenge is really only in its length. It's a marathon, so the best idea is not to worry too much about completing it, and just have fun. Because when you're near the end of the challenge, it probably won't be fun.  There are people who achieve it in about 20 seasons, but most take longer or give up. So, just have fun, and remember that failure can be far more interesting than success; for those of us following your progress anyway.

(Sidenote @goonergez If you now lose the title to Man City this season, you will be an absolute legend. An Icarus type legend admittedly).

    3. Your manager can be any age. There used to be a requirement that the manager was 19 or 20, but somebody forgot to do that when they started the challenge. I did an experiment, and as far as I can tell, age has absolutely no impact on getting jobs. It's entirely cosmetic. However, it's possible that age does have a (negative) impact once you're really old. I don't think it does. It's possible that age has an effect on the respect players give you, although again, I don't think so. So, start at any age you want.

Bear in mind that if you start at 19 or 20, it will be about 15 years until you can get a son. If you start at 35 you should get a son roughly once every 600 seasons.

@vikeologist Wonderful to see this challenge and the thread updates as such. Keep you posted with my updates.

  8. I would like to give a go at this challenge and see how I can sustain with it. Would like to get few doubts clarified. Any help is appreciated.

    1. I do not own FM21, and at this point don't want to buy it and will be buying FM22 as soon as it gets released. So, is it too late and too old to start this on FM20? I know Canada is missing (may be more nations/league) but that shouldn't be a problem as I can choose some other nation/league.

    2. I am thinking of abandoning this save for restarting the challenge afresh once FM22 gets released. So, is it too short of time to complete this challenge by November, if not win, to at least have fun and win as many tournaments as possible?

    3. Should the manager I start be aged 19? I see manager can be of any age in first post but every manager post I saw here had them start at age 19.

May look like a noob, but have to ask this.

I have created the manager profile with the required details and holidayed to Nov 5th, Saved it incase needed for later use, then moved on to Nov 6th, and know the club in 19th position. Now I am confused of how to become their head coach? Can someone help to letting me know this please?

Can anyone confirm if the process is below? I need to have the two manager profiles - One for holidaying till Nov 6th. Then add manager and takeover the team in 19th position. Am I right?
