Had this happen once whilst playing in Wales - new board took over and immediately signed two players. One of the players was from one of my former clubs (unsure if this was just coincidence or linked to my knowledge of the player) whilst the other one was an 18 yr old Nigerian GK playing in Italy who failed his work permit application and appeal but was signed anyway!

I think as a feature it isn't awful, as I can imagine a few owners buying players over a manager's head in real life(as a West Ham fan I know our owners love doing this), but I think it clearly needs work.

The idea of a chairman giving the manager a budget to spend and then spending the whole thing himself is just plain strange.

Agreed. It could be a good addition but signing random players in already filled positions isn't fun, totally understand why it was implemented as you said west ham is a good example... but in your case and my case a lesser team spending the full budget is just kinda never going to happen.

I saw the same post as you (probably) and it's ridiculous. Why on earth can't SI give players a choice? Same with the stupid Brexit feature that they forced on us a couple of games ago. If the budget stays the same and they pay for it in other ways then I guess it'll be less of a problem and I can either sell them on or leave them in the U23 team.

Sure, sounds interesting for some and I fully understand why some would enjoy this feature. But I get more satisfaction out of buying my own players and seeing them thrive. I'm gonna experiment and try moving the players to other clubs with the editor and see if they try buying more.

Yeah I get that it can be a good twist for some, in my case though it was kind of just annoying because the player signed is going to be my 4/5th choice Centre back and cost me more than anyone else in my squad and I usually keep my transfer budget for agent fees etc because money is tight in the lower leagues. Hope it doesn't happen again lol!

Literally just came on here to complain about the same problem! Just won the PL, I have a transfer budget of about £60m and the board have made a collective bid of £150m for two players I don't want!

SI have messed about with something here.

As realistic as it may be, it stops being fun if I can't buy my own players. This has to be the most infuriating FM for many years (and I've played every one).

Thank god someone agrees with me, seen a post from earlier in the year where people agreed its a good addition. For me that is nearly enough to put me of my save.

The new owners even offered a contract to someone I had planned to offer a pre-contract to... obviously offering a poor contract that the player declined allowing another team to swoop in.

I'm pretty sure in real life the owners would at least ask the manager what his opinion is of a transfer, I know that some managers don't have a say in the matter but cmon I'm managing a league 1 side and there is no chance that would happen

  4. Having just been promoted to league 1 with scunthorpe I was allocated 60k transfer budget. The club was then bought over and the new owners bought Jordan Mcghee from dundee for 55k!

There was absolutely no way of cancelling this transfer either. I get that in the top leagues this may happen but very unrealistic in the lower leagues to blow the full transfer budget on 1 player.

Thanks, @HarrisFFC. That doesn’t sound very good so I’m hoping for a takeover to improve things for Falkirk FC and it’s fans.

Now the FM20 full game is out, I’m about to start my FM20 Career Update save with Falkirk. I wonder how well the MSG situation has been recreated in-game with FM20. What am I walking into becoming manager of Falkirk?

I literally just fired up a new Falkirk save! In previous football managers it has just been the 1 chairman and no MSG so its always been fine to work with on FM lol!

The other question I had was about Interim Chairman, Lex Miller, how come Falkirk have an interim chairman?

    Tagged: @HarrisFFC

    Hi,

This is because most of the fans wanted the MSG out, basically a group of people who own the largest percentage of the club. They are too blame for the club being run so poorly, for example when we signed Ray it was done without Morton's permission resulting in a large fine, also the closing of the academy.

So at the end of the season and still to this day falkirk fans have been trying to get the MSG out,  part of the MSG were Andy Campbell & Margaret Lang who both resigned after the protests against them and Falkirk fans still want the rest of the MSG to follow.

The only thing is the takeover never happened (probably a good thing as Mark Campbell seems like a fraud as his Sunderland bid also looked shady), pretty much the bridges have been burned between the fans and the MSG and change is needed, all be it the right change.

A short CLUB STATEMENT from Falkirk FC.

    CLUB STATEMENT - 16th November 2019

    falkirk_statement_M_and_AM_sacked.thumb.png.ded9e0989598613d383af12f1ed90daf.png

"Falkirk FC can confirm that Ray McKinnon and Darren Taylor have been relieved of their duties as First Team Manager and Assistant Manager with immediate effect.

"Interim Chairman, Lex Miller and the Board of Directors wish to place on record their best wishes to Ray and Darren for the future."

Falkirk were top recently, and are currently 4th, just three points behind leaders Airdrieonians, although that could stretch to four points if either East Fife or Raith Rovers win their game-in-hand.

    Good or bad decision?

Absolutely the best decision, Ray is a terrible manager and can't get the players fighting. Should have been sacked 6 months ago when he got us relegated. We have the biggest budget by a mile and barely had a shot on target. Here is a video to show you how bad it is from the stands.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK6z8A7rkS0

    Wow that bull.

Obvs true to life so no complaints about it but makes a save pointless to me, might appeal to some folk the challenge of always having to be thrifty in the market but I love my newgens so I'd never take on the club now.

Had a great save with them in FM18 I think it was. In fact no I didn't, they became a dominant force in my save! I left Scotland to go manage in Italy then Spain and was away about 10 year and all of a sudden I was seeing Falkirk winning leagues and Cups and competing in the champs league so I returned to Rangers to get normal order restored lol.

Not sure what happened, I think they may have been bought out.

THAT was a GREAT save that year :brock:

Definitely my favourite way to play football manager is signing players on the cheap then selling for profit.

Tend to get to the English premiership and just get bored with all the big fees etc.

    Thanks, @HarrisFFC

Looks like it's going to be fun managing Falkirk on FM20 and for me, personally, getting used to the nuances of the Scottish League System. There's also a split league thing part way through, isn't there?

Well I've called time on my FM19 Career Update save on here and am waiting for the full-game later this month, before starting my FM20 Career at Falkirk. I'm really excited about the prospect.

Thanks for all the input on here as I found out more about Falkirk. No youth team...hmmmmmn.

I'll post an update once the save is up and running and anybody who's interested is welcome to follow along in the Career Update section on here.

    Wish me luck...

Yes there is a split, only for the Scottish premiership though!

No problem at all my friend, I am doing the exact same thing, doing a short term save then as soon as the full game is released I will begin my Falkirk save. Good luck

Oooops, sounds like a short-sighted decision that backfired then.

    Last time I looked Falkirk were 3rd having W5 D4 L2 I think.

I suppose in readiness for managing Falkirk in FM20, I ought to get my head around how promotion from League 1 works. Is it Champions go up plus a play-off for a second promotion spot?

One of the major reasons with the fans discontent with the board, also the takeover was called of today adding fuel to the fire.

Yeah that’s correct! The league 1 play of is different from the championship playoff which is very confusing! In league 1 there are 4 play of games but in the championship a team can play up to 6 if they finish 4th, hard to get your head around lol

positive in league 1 the team who finished 4th play the team who finished 2nd bottom in the championship and then 3rd vs 2nd in league 1, then the winners of that play a final.

The age of the laptop is less of a factor than its components!

The laptop I used also only shows 0.5, when I think it showed 3 last year. Could mean that the measuring of performance is bugged, or the game is a lot more demanding than FM19.

Fingers crossed its the latter, not as if they add massive changed every year.

@HarrisFFC, what’s the thinking behind Falkirk disbanding the Youth Team?

I’m very much looking forward to starting my FM20 save at Falkirk FC, which I’ll be updating in the Career Updates section on here.

Yeah as he said above it was as they thought by scrapping the youth setup they would have a couple hundred thousand pounds extra every year to invest into the first team budget which did not work whatsoever as they are all duds, also this season hasn't started very well either... forfar away tomorrow

Cheers, @HarrisFFC. I’m enjoying the interaction in the Career Updates section on my current Derby County - Director of Football Challenge thread so I’ll almost certainly do updates of the Falkirk save in a similar way.

Sounds great, always enjoy it more whist reading other peoples updates... will be good to see a falkirk one as well.

Thanks, @HarrisFFC. I must admit I’m getting quite excited about the prospect of trying to get The Bairns two promotions back to the SPL and then trying to compete with Celtic and Rangers... or get sacked in the process!

I just recently managed to win the league, took to my 5/6th season... definitely my fav save; managing your club always is though.

Conor Sammon was a Nigel Clough signing for Derby County in the summer of 2012 for £1.2M. He went on to play for us 84 times, scoring 10 goals, which is 1-in-8 and rubbish for a striker.

But I couldn’t help liking the guy. He worked tirelessly hard, he was big and caused opposition defenders problems, he created goals for others, but he couldn’t finish and for a 6’3” striker he was poor in the air.

What better than to link up with Conor Sammon in Ladbrokes League One in Scotland to see if I can get him scoring goals!

I think this save is just meant to be for you LOL:)

Pretty exited to see how he does for us this season, however his goal stats are poor throughout his career especially last season for motherwell.

That being said he should bang them in dropping 2 leagues lower but we shall see.

  16. Falkirk has always been wealthy with income from tickets & transfers but admittedly will have suffered heavily in being relegated with the board blowing loads on 3 different teams & tapping up Ray mckinnon resulting in a fine, half the fans are not buying season tickets till this board are gone. We must be fine though as we have brought players like michael tidser to the club who will be on more in league 1 than he would be in the champ. Also Will Vaulks had a 20% clause in his contract so we will get 20% of his fee going to cardiff(2.1m).  Thank god for him and what an unbelievable player btw.

Yeah lol,  pretty embarrassing that he didn't apologise as it was clearly not true and was proven in court. Even when falkirk fans had a red card against racism display he didn't seem to bother that much and didn't apologise, pretty embarrassing seeing your club on the front of BBC sport for all the wrong reasons. The damage was done and falkirks rep was made out to be pretty bad. Seems the thing he is most famous for is that so his career is most definitely done lol
