Gladiator and conqueror are both excellent, as is crusher! I like all the tactics and they will behave differently (still successfully) for everyone depending on the players in your team. For example, gladiator might work better for the team I am managing but it wouldn't work as well as conqueror does for you. I am also a fan of 4-2-3-1 formations and don't really like 2 strikers, so I have a save with Gladbach using shield wall which I enjoy. However I started a save with Sampdoria and have implemented conqueror, which has been going really well. My favourite tactic of TFF's so far for fm19 has admittedly been a 4-2-3-1 called punisher from an earlier patch which was so fun using with Udinese.

I went with Crusher, and it's pretty promising. Friendlies against Sassuolo, Salzburg and Dortmund: 8-0, 8-0, 7-0. First official game vs Benfica: 6-1

  2. 10 years as SC Braga manager! Longest I've made in FM19, by far.

The idea behind this save was to do some trading. Buying cheap youngsters, mostly from South-America, and then make them grow, and sell them if clubs come for them, and buy new youngsters.
That aspect worked pretty well overall. A few examples:
     - N.Acevedo, 300k€, sold 52M€ after 2.5 seasons
     - L.Martinez, 1.7M€, sold 40M€ after 4 seasons (he just came back, at 30 yo, and for free)
     - L. Fontana, 650k€, sold 28M€ after 2.5 seasons
     - Guga, 3.9M€, sold 25M€ after 5 seasons
     - R.Marquez, 3.2M€, sold 30M€ after 5 seasons
     - I.Erquiaga, 2.8M€, sold 26.5M€ after 3.5 seasons
     - E.Unsain, free, sold 18.5M€ after 2 seasons
     - C.Mora, 1.2M€, sold 22M€ after 3 seasons
     - Taylor, 9M€, sold 100M€ after 4 seasons
     - G.Arabidze, 3M€, sold 35M€ after 6 seasons and probably becoming the best player in the club's history, with 126 goals and 47 assists in 234 (+22 subs) games

Of course some others are next on line, like Makeev (free, got bids around 50M€ already) or Cortes (6M€, got bids around 50M€ too). Taylor, the one who left for 100M€, he just left, and I can accept easily that offer because I already have 2 extremely good young players at his position who will easily replace him. My roster has 23 years old on average.
I bought 64 players for 251M€, and sold 72 for 723M€. For next season, the board offered me... 326M€ for transfers. And I have 2M€ free on my wage budget too.

Trading is fun, but how is it useful if it doesn't follow on the pitch? Well, I think this is a nice success too.
First season was tough though. We weren't far from getting sacked, and finished out of european places. It meant second season would be focused only on the league, which allowed us to grab the second place. The next season  was about the same, although we finished 4th, but we still dominated most teams while beating Sporting, Benfica or Porto was impossible.
It all changed in 4th season. This is the season we finally got to beat a big club. And boy did we not stop at one. All of a sudden we became a big club beater. Which got us my first trophy, my first league title, and my first treble all at once.
While establishing ourselves in Europe over the next 3 seasons (2 CL quarter-finals and then a first knock-out round), we couldn't get first again in Liga NOS. We came extremely close in 6th season, when we were 11 points ahead in february, but lost the title at the last game when we got blastered by Rio Ave while Benfica was easily winning. That title loss is still stuck in my throat. But we still did very good in the different cups, even becoming invincible in the main one.
We got the title back in season 8, while reaching our first CL semi-finals, to lose by one goal to Barcelona.
Bis repetita season 9, crowned in Liga NOS, eliminated by Barcelona in semies of CL. The tenth season, we finally got over that Barcelona obstacle in the semies (3 years in a row FCB in semies!). Beat them 2-1 over the 2 legs, to face Villarreal in the final. Villarreal, who has 2 starters and a main sub on loan from... us, which meant not available for the final. Was it a big factor, I don't know, but we claimed the win 2-0!

Christmas of the 4th season is also when Portugal approached me. I accepted, and reached the final of Euro 2024, to lose against France. Following that, we stared the World Cup 2026 pretty poorly, to grow during the tournament and beat England 5-0 in the final. Exactly a week later, I was appointed France manager, after I asked for the job. We won the Nations League. Euro 2028 was a weird one. We weren't really good, reached the final God knows how, yet the final against Italy went well and we won (pretty sure listenning to 1998 WC France's anthem I Will Survive helped )
I don't know what is my international future. I'd like to manage Brazil. Coming back to Portugal would be nice too. At the same time, I'd like to go further with France. But some positions are really lacking talents and older players start to be really old and decreasing.

Honestly, I feel like if offered a contract, they'll leave anyway. My assistant left my club for a club with less reputation, of a lower level, for less wage and less bonuses, and he had no tie with that club.
And every single time a staff member gets an offer, he leaves no matter what I offer

    Once again:

The contract my assistant had: 36k/month, no bonus
The offer I made him: 50k/month, 45k if champions, 30k if qualified for quarter-finals of CL, 60k if win the CL, 25k if win the cup
The offer he prefered: 46k, -25% if relegated (which could very well happened, since he joined a bottom 5 team when I was the CL winner a month ago

That's just a very annoying thing. SI should look into it.

  4. I think I'll switch to the Gladiator/Conqueror combo for my next season. A bit afraid to switch to 442s when I've been playing 4231/433s since the beginning of my career. Someone to confirm it's a good combo?

And what about the Crusher? I like that it has 2 CMs and 2 wide men higher than the Conqueror.

Honestly, a few of those are just bad squad management. If you handle your team and your contracts properly, you will not have players moaning for new contracts very often. Pay players what they are worth, keep key players on long contracts, and do not let contracts run down for players you definitely want to keep around. If you are always only renewing contracts in the last year, you will have issues, and it is your own fault.

Determination drops in young players is entirely down to the squad you have and its influence on the youngsters. If you have a lot of determined players, it will happen less. As a general rule I do not buy players with determination lower than 13 (and only below 15 for very good players). You will also very frequently see the opposite happening as well, where a player has a huge spike in determination due to the positive influence of the squad. If you have more positive than negative influences, you will have a net increase in determination.

I was not even aware gegenpressing tactics were overpowered. For the user or for the AI? It is not at all difficult to counter a gegenpress tactic from the AI, I find. You just need to stop messing around with the ball and exploit the huge amounts of space a gegenpressing team is going to give you.

My actual gripe with the game? Press conferences. They are useful for squad moral, getting players motivated and handling pressure games. But they are so boring and repetitive that I simply click the answers I know will work. There is no soul to it. I have no idea how to fix it, but I find it so tiresome.

Oh come on, don't pretend like everything is perfect... Players keep asking for contracts, they sign a new one, 6-9 months later they want a new one. You give them they come back less than a year later wanted a new contract.
God that board can be annoying. We're trying to report issues so it can be improved and some people just keep saying it's all normal and nothing should be done. Do you want FM20 to be a transfer update of FM19? Seems like it.

We're only trying to report issues so SI can find the right balance and release a better game next year.

This is a very good community for this so I’m going to ask something.

I would like to manage a team with an interesting backstory. Maybe an obscure one or one from a lower league in the top 5 that may have fell on hard times or just have a really interesting backstory. I love managing a team with a good story and would like to read some even if I don’t pick it to have a save with. Thank you.

Reims was on top of european football in the 50s. Leeds in England.

  7. Hey, I didn't complain about the dominating draw. I only posted it. Like I said, just chill. If I want to know why I'll go in the right sub-forum, I know where it is.

To get this thread back on track, here are a couple of screenshots from my save.

After Arsenal and Barcelona, Thomas Vermaelen's career has taken an interesting turn...

    ...and so has Oliver McBurnie's.

Areola joined Al-Ahli (Saudi Arabia) at just 31. A keeper of that age is suppoed to be in his prime.

  8. Oh man i wish I had seen that thread a couple of days ago... I qualified in the groupe stage of CL by finishing first, despite losing my last group stage game, and I then drew Inter Milan, and then I got a media question telling me "You lost in group stage against Atletico and now you're not qualified for next round, you must be disappointed?". Like, WHAT?! I'm qualified, I'm playing Inter next.

I did the screen but couldn't find a thread to post it in on another board...

  9. After 3-4 seasons there are way less good youngsters. It even gets to a point where there aren't even good young players. Clubs like Santos usually have a few 16 year-olds, but after like 4 seasons they don't anymore.

In my club I get ONE single player every season, despite having everything to get young players.

So I definitely disagree with the OP
