The only thing im shocked about is that there is no early access...  It was the main reason to pre-order....

Said this yesterday - IMO, it was the only reason to pre-order. Now with only giving a 10% discount which means it will still be more on Steam than some other sites, there is no incentive to pre-order.

On another subject- this usually happens, but not sure if it still will this year, streamers usually get to go down to SI to show some game footage a week or so before launch - any news if they are going to allow that to happen this year?

The most you got in the way of marketing was some text and a screenshot or too in PC Gamer or PC Format magazine! :)

No - we used to get free Demo's of (then) Championship Manager a few weeks before the release. It used to be stuck on the front cover of various gaming magazines. That's how backwards the gaming industry has become - nobody wants to show off their product until it is actually released - review embargos etc, as most of them know that the truth would affect sales (NOT aiming that at SI tbf).

Match engine and graphics engine are two entirely different things.

I am pretty sure we're just seeing the match engine ported into a new graphics engine (unity).

I've said enough this morning about how I feel about the wild panic and hysteria from the community. I worked all night and I'm going to bed.

Calm down people. You'll get your juicy goodness throughout the month of October.

I’m pretty sure everyone is entitled to an opinion. Yours isn’t the only one.

The majority, and not just here either, is that yesterday’s announcement and subsequent trailer were poor.

New graphics engine. The graphics engine and the match engine are two entirely seperate things. The matche engine has gotten better and better. I was never entirely unhappy with the graphics, but was never against change.

And I merely meant that this is what they've told us they're working on.

    Welcome to following a game...

Why get upset that you haven't seen gameplay?

I don't care if the response is not overwhelmingly positive, but I seriously don't understand the hugely negative.

The modern generation want it all and they want it all yesterday...

    Modern generation? Okay…..

Yep, I guess it’s all completely want, want, want to actually see some gameplay or screenshot footage in a trailer advertising a game.

I would love to know when they show a trailer for House of the Dragon why on earth they show snippets of footage from various episodes - why on earth don’t they just show the possible demographic of its viewers. It’s almost like a trailer is supposed to entice people in to watch or buy based on what they see the game is capable of. Stupidity really.

Our community must be one of the most self-destructive I have ever seen.

I really don't understand how the game still exists after decades of "disappointments and underachieving".

It is a new ME, and I guess that if it were easy, there would be playable alternatives to the game. And man, I am totally critical of a new game every year, but this year is the leap forward everyone was asking for...

How do you know it is?

It's almost as if they actually had no idea...

I would suggest they have a fairly good idea. Just like the Fran Kirby/Evan Ferguson screenshots - what SI have shown us doesn't make any sense at the moment - so it is quite conceivable that there is no Raumdeuter in the game - that these are 'early' screenshots.

They never say anything about that, it's something we have gotten used to over the years.
If they decide to do it again, it will probably be 2/3 weeks before release date.

They do. Always states when you pre-order that there will be early Beta access. Never seen it any different. Tis year is just a 'discount' if you order early.

They’ve literally said announcement at the end of September. It’s not the end of September yet. Why do you want SI to constantly tell us what they’re doing, what purpose does it serve?

The only people who thought an announcement would be earlier are the eager beavers in this thread who are perpetually annoyed with everything SI do.

I don't think people want to be told what SI are doing - they want some info on what is in the game - show some screenshots or videos. I guess most people don't care if Miles is on his 4th coffee of the day, they do care if the UI is looking better.

And I have been around long enough to know if SI say something towards the end of a week/month it usually means right at the end - but again would it not be better just to say 'More updates on 30th September'?

Save percentage is probably a better metric than purely player count anyway. 90% of players and 10% of saves could be exactly the same thing, but the latter tells you that the former is way overblown. One person spending 2 minutes looking at the mode and abandoning it counts as a person, but it could be 1% of that person's saves. That's far more telling as a metric, which is probably why it's been used.

Not that it even matters, to anything close to the degree people keep talking about a number.

No figure or % would have been better.

They should have just said we wanted to implement this, this and this but we don’t have time to do them justice. By putting a figure on it, just starts everyone bickering about how it would be more etc if it had been done properly years ago.

Anyway, done to death now as I said earlier

We do know, as SI posted the figure in one of their FM25 development updates.

We also considered the available game data. Only 5.6% of all FM24 PC saves have used the mode, which we feel validates our view that we need to do much, much better with the experience. That number is even smaller on Console.

Tell me how many players that is then please - if you think you know?

5.6% of 'saves'. Not players. If every single person that played FM24 had 20 saves per year then every single person could have played International Management.

So why not suggest some better ones if you think that's the case, rather than just criticising? :)

I don't need to. It wasn't me that made the point, why do you need to compare  FM/Womens football to anything else? I don't see the point? It is what it is now - at this point in time and in the future it may or may not be better/worse/bigger/smaller - nobody knows. We can all assume that it will continue to grow and reach a higher standard than it is now. But that may take decades - just like mens football did.

  13. 24 minutes ago, Lord Rowell said:

    It is isn't it?
Of course, all because, in discussion, one person made an analogy about how trends etc. change over time.

People then decided not to stick to the issue, but instead go after the analogy, when it was blindingly obvious what the person was getting at, however perfect / imperfect the analogy was.

But he hasn't made a point about 'trends'. He is comparing something that is mandated in law to a form of entertainment that may, or may not, grow to be as big as the men's game. Hence, it is a very bad analogy.

Yes, I did. People would scoff at seat belts back in the day and now it's mainstream and mandatory, with a few stragglers here and there I suppose. Women's football is also on the way there in a similar fashion, people rebel against it as if it's an attack on their manlihood or whatever, but more and more people appreciate it for what it is, and I bet this issue will slowly dissipate over time... With obviously some people remaining who will never respect the work that goes into it.

Call me crazy or whatever, this is just how I think.

You are not crazy - but it is a bad analogy.

Seatbelts are mandatory because they save lives - fact. They became law. There is no room for if someone likes them or not.

You say that women's football should be 'promoted and encouraged to give it a shot'. Totally agree with the promoted part - no issue, but the give it a shot - no, not if people don't want to. I find golf incredibly boring. I just don't understand it at all. Yet, millions of people worldwide play it and watch it. Does that mean I should give it a shot?

If women's football becomes mainstream then good for it. I will be happy for those that play, that want to play and want to watch. But it doesn't mean I have to either enjoy or watch it.

And I am not sure you should be implying it become mandatory either.

Games as a service has been everyone's desire since WoW had 12 million active subscriptions at like $8 a month. GTA online is probably the current top dog in that field but you can't just produce it on demand. Look at the last 20 years failed MMO's and then games like Concord recently, Kill the Justice League, Anthem. Even studios who've proven they can create games that succeed like Rockstar failed miserably to do it again with RDR2 and the online mode it had.

The fear of not being able to do it with GTA 6 is one of the reasons I think (paired with the absurd money GTA 5 is still bringing in) that we haven't yet seen the sequel and there was little impetus to get it out before now.

Crusader Kings 2 did a decent take on a game as a subscription where you could get the game and all DLC playable for a monthly fee, but that was around the time CK3 came out.

Sega were incredibly NFT focused a little while back when that was all the rage, but Ubisoft beat everyone to the punch and proved just how utterly dreadful an idea for gaming that was. Sometimes I imagine you just have to sit back and wait for something new and shiny to take the interest of the companies who are at the top of the pyramid at distributor/publisher level. That and they need to keep in mind that the last couple of years have shown that an awful lot of people in senior roles at those companies have completely misjudged the gaming landscape.

So, as I said because I am not really a 'gamer' as such - I play FM and Total War- that's about it, is it you don't own the game then - you just subscribe to it? A bit like gamepass?

  16. Perhaps DLC was the wrong words. Their (SI/Sega) words were:

Community engagement is is also a critical success factor as we transition towards towards a game as a service business model designed to provide players with enhanced gameplay experience through additional content and subscription-based offerings.

I took that as DLC, but it might be something else - I don't really play other games so not sure.

I genuinely don't see what in FM you could spin off as DLC.

League packs, licenced content, game modes etc wouldn't be massive money spinners as most of that is covered via modding if you are so inclined.

You'd have to pay a team of developers to make DLC with almost no guarantee you'd recoup the cost.

I can only go by things that I have read - things that SI/Sega have said, maybe not DLC as such, but subscription based services.
