    I think about one thing.

I ask myself if the issue is only because my club is not a professionnal club.

I tried in a professionnal club and it works.

It looks like your schedule isn't compatible with a part-time training schedule. I'm not saying it is the problem with saving the schedule but your team only trains 3 days a week and you schedule is for 7 days.

    @Caning the Days

I play a lot of FM, and sometimes you go through spells where you look like the unluckiest dog on the planet, and sometimes you go through spells where you win every trophy you're in for a few seasons, and you think, if I was reading these reports, I'd think it was too good to be true. Except you know it is true.

To touch on this, I got Nigeria to the WC 2022 semi finals, beating Argentina along the way. Completely unrealistic irl but it happens in the game.

On cheating, I have no doubt there will be people who reload title deciders or cup finals, but so what. Its unrealistic to think people are reloading entire seasons, it would take too long, but if someone gets a little satisfaction from reloading a cup final or what not, then let them bash on. I wouldn't do it, it takes the fun out the game tbh but each to their own.

    Season 2021

    Canadian Premier League

We topped both the Spring and Fall versions of the CPL to finish 1st overall and setting up a final against Valour which we won to become back to back champions. I don´t particularly like the set up of the CPL and feel there is too many games too close together and not a big enough squad so there was some heavy rotation often and it caused us to draw far more games that I would like. I suppose drawing is better than losing though, eh.

    Canadian Championship (FA Cup)

This is a competition I had written off because the Canadian MLS teams also enter it and I figured I would need to get past two or three of them to win. Turns out I only needed to beat one because my fellow CPL teams dispatched of the others for me. So I ended up winning this too.

    image.png.efae8fd39b9ceac6bdd04f597243e958.png

    North American League

I was very surprised at the poor standard of quality in this tournament considering it is the North American version of the Europa League. As it were, no team really challenged me and we looked like winning the competition from the very start. It´s good to get my first continental trophy under my belt, even if it isn´t one that counts for the challenge.

    image.png.5410a17655df46afc8ca3433853b61ed.png

    Moving On

The board has let me go on 3 coaching courses throughout 2021 and I now have the Continental C badge, which is why I feel bad about leaving now. We did qualify for the CL however we don´t stand any chance of winning it so I kinda feel like it would be a wasted year as I can´t achieve anything else in Canada. I´m going to sit tight and try find a job in Mexico or something-

We started off the season superbly with 6 wins and 1 draw in the first group stage of the league, finishing top. We went into the champions group full of confidence and ended up winning 2 and losing 1 in the champions group stage, qualifying for the final against York9.

Bear in mind that having a national job has (in past versions) made it more difficult to get a club job.

Of course, I have no idea how this year's version works.

I've not had FM for about 5 versions or something mate so that's news to me, cheers 👍 I'm still going to start over, kinda lost interest in the save when I've went 3 years without a club job. Learnt from mistakes I may have made first time round, all a learning curve.

  6. So I won the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria and we're up to 10th in the world however I've taken the decision to start over again. I've now been 3 years (now in Feb 2024, last club 2021) without a club a job and I think mistakes I made in my previous club jobs (quitting and getting sacked) have stopped clubs employing me. I've done everything, chopped and changed playable leagues and even teams in 2nd Finland etc aren't willing to employ me. Lessons learned. Will set it up again tonight at work and post profile etc then.

    2022 Nigeria

So I have been without a club for a year now but I took the Nigeria job in early 2022.  They had already qualified for the World Cup in 2022.

    AFCON 2023 Qualifying

    Spoiler

    image.png.1896db95a53af4d7555b2900c2ce4b65.png

First up was AFCON qualifying in a group with Mali, Libya and Swaziland. It was very easy group in which we went 6 out of 6 to qualify for 2023 African Cup of Nations.

    World Cup 2022

So the draw for the World Cup was pretty favourable, landing us in a group with Qatar, Scotland and Mexico.

    image.png.335832993387db9e1f6b60e3e6774744.png

    Group Stage

We had an outstanding group stage that consisted of a 2-0 win against Scotland, 2-1 win against Mexico and a 0-0 draw with Qatar for us to top the group.

    Second Round

    Spoiler

    image.png.0b6831a6ea14fff4eb821f0efd5cb7a5.png

A penalty shootout sends us into the QF of the World Cup. We should have won in normal time though, we dominated!

    Quarter Final

    Spoiler

    image.png.582920c35d1b96b75c13da9f5f418645.png

We were lucky here, we only had 2 shots the whole game but Argentina gave away 2 penalties and they battered us for 90 mins.

    Semi Final

    Spoiler

    image.png.ee26fb038305e6c4b6dbe522e5e77c1f.png

Our luck ran out on this one and Brazil run out worthy winners. 3rd place playoff vs Panama though.

    3rd Place

    Spoiler

    image.png.eb7c9907227196bc23b25c4b5b061f2d.png

We should have won this by 5 or 6 but I´ll take any win.

What a tournament. We exceeded expectations by getting to the SF but the media had us predicted to get to the QF. Time to find a club job while I wait out AFCON 2023

    Season 2021-2022

    Shaanxi Chang´an Athletic

So I took over at Shannxi with 19 games played and they sat 3rd in the table. My expectations from the board were to win promotion but looking at their squad I changed it to win the league as we were only 7 points behind 1st and still had to play them on the last day of the season.

    League

We had fantastic form in the league and won 14 of our 15 games with one loss. League came down to the last day of the season with Zhejiang Greentown 1 point ahead but we were playing each other in the final game of the season.

    image.png.f690b86c7a85f8e55572274eef26ceda.png

As you can see we won 1-0 with a goal pretty much from KO. It was tight game with a lot of nail biting. So we´re promoted and into the Super League. The squad is not good enough for the step up so it is going to be whole rebuild with very little money, the board has only given me 200k transfer budget with 150k p/w wage budget. God knows how I am going to manage that. Shandong Leung sacked their manager after the last day of season and I have been linked with the job, I won´t apply for it but if they come to me then it will be something to think about. I am currently studying for my national C coaching badge and should be complete within a month.

  9. So I deleted my last save because it was too slow (lesson learned) and started again with Asia and South Africa loaded.

    Start up:

    Season 2020-2021

    image.png.5e5e18bea664d14dab622d9f53f623fd.png

I waited until December until a suitable job came around and I took the managers position at Chennai City in India.

    League

So I won´t lie, I was shocked at how poor the quality is in the Indian Airtel I-League. I didn´t expect much already but it was worse than I could have imagined. To kick off the league season the media had us expected 8th with a 66-1 shot of winning the league but I hired an African DoF and signed 3 players from Africa and a Pakistani goalkeeper as our 4 foreign players and their quality outstripped anyone else in the league. With these 4 signings we went from predicted 8th to predicted 1st at 1-33. Unreal. We went the entire first stage of the league season unbeaten, finishing with 8 wins and 2 draws.

    image.png.c3ebb80c32080f2eaa35d8b18694ccc8.png

Going into the champions phase of the league, I had no doubt we were going to win it and we didn´t perform as well as I would have hoped but we won it with a record of 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss but our loss was a massive 6-0 drubbing to MHDN FC. Embarrassing. Regardless, we won and captured our first league title of the challenge in our the first season however I think it will be a long time until I get to add to that,

    image.png.c2a2ce480d0bccac9866365890420258.png

    Cup

So the cup competition was the Indian Federation Cup and after our showing in the league I fully expected to win this, which we did albeit a bit laboured in the final.

    image.png.b830a801f536c0d116f82b1110f9c8bb.png

    Season Review

So we cleared up this season and added our first league and cup titles for the challenge. I did plan to stay at Chennai for a second season but I may have spit the dummy out and handed in my resignation after the board rejected my request for a coaching course for the third time in my 6 months with Chennai. So I´m once again unemployed, no coaching badges and not much experience. Great.

    Hi everyone

Thinking of starting this challenge again soon, have a few teams in mind, probably in England as I enjoy the non-league pyramid.

I have a slight issue that I wondered if anyone here would know how to fix - I have downloaded the TCM '21 logo megapack and whilst it initially worked perfectly, the alignment of the badge over the non-licensed kits has become misaligned and no longer is where the badge should be (I think it happened after I refreshed something in preferences). The screenshot below demonstrates:

    712642920_badgeproblem.PNG.d4e76f31cfd5deb2ec93dd34c71d3f3d.PNG

Has anyone had a similar issue and managed to fix it? I would really appreciate knowing how to as the badge not appearing where it should is really triggering me

Are you using a custom skin?

That was something that helped me out when I was in Germany last season with Energie Cottbus. Their sponsorship money helped so much with how much money we were spending on wages. Once you get promoted to 2. Liga, the prize money is literally enough to cover most costs at the end of the season.

I had planned to try stay in 3.Liga for another 2 seasons but think I'm going to have to try get promoted for the prize money. Running off sponsorship alone is going to take forever to upgrade facilities. Just now it's a godsend though. They've got players on 8.5k a week in the 3rd tier...

good post; So u made profit ? i saw a few German teams with a lot of debt after holidaying one season.

No, I didn´t make profit mate. I lost €3mil during the season. Starting balance was €4mil and I made around €500k from friendlies over the course of the season. It seems they have a sponsorship injection of €4mil every season as my balance rocketed again.

What kind of tactics do people tend to use in the initial seasons of their saves?  More generally, not detailed ... more cautious or positive?

I tend to switch between positive, attacking and cautious. Positive to start, attacking if we're chasing the game or drawing fairly late on and cautious if we're winning but on the ropes a bit.

I've spent the majority of time since launch hacking together a skin from various different pieces, so barely in December 2023, the speed at which some of you guys progress astounds me.

Most of us use instant result for a large number of games. I play the first few games of the season and important games but the rest get instant result.

I apologise for being a bad thread host and not constantly responding to all your progress.

All I can say is that after 6 years, you start to feel like you're repeating yourself.

However, while FM21 is downloading (the importance of which is somewhat lessened by my still on the FM20 challenge)...

@Siepe1990 Congrats on the Copa. You know I'm not sure I've ever had a win on this challenge to rival that. Frankly I tend to rarely deviate from low hanging fruit, and hen I did in this challenge (with Switzerland) I left dodge once I realised how rubbish they were. (But they were really bad). I think I won the Confederations Cup with Mexico once.

I certainly shut up shop from time to time once 1-0 up with a cup I absolutely need to win.

@fromcoystocottbus Kind of makes me want to manage in Belarus. (I never have), but they only have 1 cup, so it won't be this challenge. Nothing worse than being crippled by league restrictions in an unfamiliar league, and not being able to do anything about it until the next transfer window,

At my new club, I had a choice in a vital cup fixture. Play my best goalkeeper (who is foreign) and have absolutely no cover on the subs bench in the event of injury, or play safe with my backup goalie who is almost as good, but a little lacking match fitness. Either way, I cannot put out a full subs bench. (I mean I could have an extra 16 year old goalie, but I think by that point I'd be doomed).

It worked out ok though for that fixture. My run of what I acknowledge much look like an unlikely run of success is still ongoing. I promise I'm not cheating in order to complete the challenge. I'd rather not complete it than cheat, although obviously I'm hoping that my self-defined 'clean' attempt at the challenge will soon be at an end.

@libbyshuss Good luck with Nigeria. I often seem to have problems with the ACON, but i don't know why. Given that my (essentially downloaded) tactics should give me the edge over similar quality teams, it should be easy. Of course I've only failed once in this save, but believe me. I have lost a lot of ACONs. I tjink it was 7 or 8 in a row, but that's not the challenge record.

@lukefox44 So I think I've missed something in your previous updates, (About to reveal how little I carefully study updates). The 1 year contract is a league requirement in South Africa? I thought that people were just saying that individual (presumably those of humble means) or ambitious players were insisting on it.

Anyway, you're in my old home of Dalian now. Do you know, I could never find their ground. Nobody in the city seemed entirely sure where exactly it was. Nobody had ever actually been to a game there. Honestly, the stadium should have been findable. I mean, it's a stadium. It's not like trying to find a tiny little shed. It's a huge stadium, but no. Simply couldn't find it. I wouldn't overstate how hard I tried. I did watch Chinese football on TV, and believe me, that can really sap the enthusiasm. The only enjoyable Chinese football is on FM.

@MShing Congrats on your success in S Africa. Always a relief to get that CL out of the way.

@danielclouston1 Welcome to the challenge. Did you get a job?

@dannyh_22  Sucks to stay for a cup you don't win. Sucks to fall too far behind on your cups, though I think I'm demonstrating how easy it is to swoop in for cups. Well, I've done it once. Still in the middle of the second swoop. Hopefully good news soon.

Not yet mate. I decided to have a crack at the youth challenge first because I feel this challenge will take me longer so will do it second. I'll give the other one 2 shots first, if I get sacked etc before moving on to this challenge 👍
