This is about FM2018, but I hope to find out if this is happening to other people with newer games too. And if this happens only with games that loaded extra editor files, or with vanilla games too.
I might have posted this long ago already in a bug topic, but now I have a lot more data and an indepth look at this.In my FM2018 savegame, I play a longterm save, close to 2100 right now. I have selected 9 playable leagues: The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania. I have loaded all possible playable leagues from these nations. I use Claassen's extra leagues and cups and some Sortitoutsi files too.
When I write about 9+16, I mean "teams from my 9 selected nations + the 16 top teams from other leagues"
These 9 nations are the ones mentioned above. Those 16 teams are: Arsenal, Chelsea, City, United, Liverpool, Spurs, Inter, Juventus, Milan, Napoli, Barça, Atlético, Real, Sevilla, PSG and BenficaThe problem:
FM2018: Almost every team in a non-selected league is without a manager. There are only 16 teams who do attract managers.
In my 9 nations most teams find new managers. They get high reputation staff and when someone retires, finds a new job, or is fired, they will put out a job offering and find a new man to lead them. As far as I can see, that works as it should.
It starts being a problem in every other league in the world. Only clubs with a very high reputation will attract managers and win European leagues. Every other team will not.
What have I found out so far:
A look at the leagues and clubs:
I first looked at England. In the Premier League and Championship - together - are only 6 teams that attract managers. These are the topteams ofcourse: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham. All other clubs are without a manager for 70 or 80 seasons in a row. There are teams that have only their original manager for a few years, like Everton and Birmingham, or had no manager at all, because there was a job opening at the start, like Aston Villa
I have looked at other big leagues too:
Spain: only Atlético, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Sevilla
Italy: only Inter, Juventus, Milan and Napoli
France: only PSGSo clubs like Lyon, Marseille, Monaco, Lazio, and Roma will not attract managers. Ever.
Strange exception: Inter had managers, but after it's last one quited his job in 2081, there were no new managers attractedAfter that, I checked the smaller nations, which have topteams, like Belgium, Switzerland, Scotland, Turkey, Greece, Ukraine and Russia.
All these leagues are without managers. They never attract even one. So Anderlecht, Basel, Celtic, Galatasaray, Olympiakos, Shakhtar and Zenit are without anyone leading them. All other teams in these leagues too.
There is only one exception to this in my game and that is the Portuguese league. In Portugal every team is without manager too, except Benfica. They are attracting managers like the other bigteams and my selected nations. Porto has a unique situation too: they attracted one new manager, and after his departure, not anymore.
A look at the news items:
If I win a European match from such a team, I often get a strange news item saying that "Basel/Celtic/Team X still was in shock after the leaving of manager Y and now has a loss to add to that too" Would any team in the world, that is without a manager for 30, 40, or 80 years, still remember him and is still not over his/her departure?? I think not. So the game not only does not attract new managers, but also this newsitem is bugged. It could be that a team struggles to find someone. That they even are unable to find a interim manager, but after decades, they will not be shocked anymore.
A look at the managers:
After this, I checked the amount of managers, using Genie Scout. There is something quite wrong with the managers in my savegame. Around 75% of them, or even more are from those 9 nations. I used Genie Scout to view the 50 highest home reputation managers: 40 out of 50 are from those 9 nations. I have checked again, now viewing the 100 managers with the highest world reputations. 76 out of 100 are from those 9 nations. It appears that the other nations are not producing so many good managers. Why?
Those managers will work mostly at my nine leagues, or at the 16 teams mentioned above.
A look at the Champions League and Europa League:
Champions League: In all those seasons, all winners, and all runners-up came from my 9 nations, or from the 16 teams with managers. No exceptions. Though a decent amount of usual suspects and new winners emerged through the years, it always where clubs from these 9+16
Europa League: here I see exactly the same as in the Champions League: every winner, each runner-up is from this pool of 9+16 clubs. The Europa League has 2 unique exceptions however. In the first few season Lille (from France) and Porto (from Portugal) reached the final and lost. Both teams where still having their managers at that time. Lille had their original manager, Porto their unique second one. After these 2 exeptions all finals were with the 9+16
A look at the domestic leagues:
In France, PSG won the league more than 70 times in a row. Only Monaco managed to get 3 title wins in the first few years. After that only PSG
In Italy almost all league wins are divided between Napoli and Juventus, except for again the first few years where Milan and Inter won only a few.
In Spain the titles are divided between Real (3/4) and Barça (1/4). Only Atlético wins ones in a while
In England, all titles go to city (3/4) and United (1/4). Only Spurs wins ones in a whileSmaller nations with no managers at all are seeing big teams winning often too, or are seeing a bit more variety of the league wins.
Conclusion:
Though my savegame is lots of fun and the world changed very organicly, there is still a very big problem concerning managers. The teams buy and sell, they play their European matches, but it is strange none of these teams have a manager and will not attract one.
I realise that this is an older game, and I have loaded lots of extra files, so I hope that the readers of this topic will check their long term saves too. Do you use the vanilla database of FM21 with no editor files? Do you use the official winter transfer update database? Did you load editor files? Or changed anything else? Still playing an older game like me? Please check your game for me if you have a bit of spare time left. I hope this is just a problem concerning older FM-games. If not, I hope this is something SI has allready fixed, or can still fix for future games.
Dear people at SI, even when this is an older game, I still hope you are happy with finding this out and I hope it helps for when creating newer games.
thanks for reading everyone
I remember someone from SI stating that in View-Only or unloaded leagues only the top teams will rehire managers and not the others so it is working as intended.
However I agree that this is unrealistic and needed to be changed ASAP as it just ruins the realism got from playing this game, especially in continental games where you might play games against unloaded teams.

I think I saw on Google the other day that Chelsea can only have 1 year contracts for older players (you can see this in Club Vision), so you cannot trigger the extension clause until the player has 6 months left on his contract, which is why you can do it on the 29th of December.

I once lasted 15 days at Drogheda United in Ireland and got sacked for declaring interest in another job when they were fighting relegation
(P.S They then got relegated a month later. Serves them right!)

This is 2025.
(Bear in mind I used daveincid and majesticeternity's Legendary Managers add on so Lampard started unemployed as Mourinho was in charge of Chelsea)

Ermant,
From my understanding if you personally negotiate a contract with the player and he accepts it, then the player is happy with the contract offer and will only reject the contract when he accepts another contract from a different club.
If you DoF offers the player a contract the player didn't accept it so he could reject the contract a few days later for different reasons for example the wage wasn't high enough.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Clamantium,
I usually ask for 1-2% for the player's value with a small increase when not playing but I'd take anything really if they are giving him good playing time (important player or above) and has decent facilities.
Wages should be set as high as possible
Cheers

You can change contract type to "Non-Contract" or "Amateur in Contract Type which is the first line of the contract as seen below (if you are semi-pro or amateur)

Transfers (Winter 2021)
In
Out
Hojgaard, Vitalis Mork, Schimith, Johansen, Godtfred, Solheim and Thorsteinsson are youth prospects we took a punt on. They will be loaned out where possible or playing for the second team.
van der Heyden is a snip at £2,200 from relegated AB and will be backup on the wings replacing Lindi Gardar who is now a scout for the club.
Knudsen is a bargain on a free from NSI Runavik after terrorizing our defence last season. He would be rotating for the spots on the wings and up front, replacing Boris Dosljak who left.
Smedsrud is on a amateur contract at FA2000 despite having 5* potential. He was immediately snapped up and he would be the longterm replacement for Jarosinski who is already 32, even though he will play in the cup and easier league games.
Lee-Dong Gook, boasting 108 caps and 33 goals for South Korea to add to clubs like Middlesborough and Werder Bremen on his CV is an unbelievable signing for the club despite being 42, even more so when he is only on £90 a week. He will be an impact sub for the second half of the season occasionally given a starting role as he couldn't last 90 minutes given his age.
All the outs except one were given development loans, which was...
...Boris Dosljak! He only had a year left on his contract and he also wanted to move to a bigger club so he was sold to Mezokovesdi in Hungary for £3,500 upfront and £7,000 in total if all the requirements are met. Also had a 10% sell on clause despite his age as his value skyrocketed to £70,000 once he joined his new club.

Friendlies
Early stutters against promoted 07 Vestur and our second team left me a bit worried but we found our groove in February and won all our games. In the Storsteypadystur curtain raiser we beat IF 2-1 thanks to late goals from Midtskogen and Fagerberg.
March
A dominant win against 07 Vestur started the month before adisappointing draw against Skala, in which we scored two stoppage time goals to level the scores. However, the boys responded brilliantly to thrash NSI Runavik as we hit them on the counter again and again.
April
A poor month. The win against Vikingur Gota was the highlight as we didn't play well at all against TB and B36 but scraped a 2-1 win on both occasions. However, we weren't as lucky against IF as we were held to a draw. Disappointing.

Hi Liam,
From my experience once you change a league from view only to playable they will add regen managers to the clubs which don't have managers.

@CapaJr It also happens to me and it is very annoying.
My way of solving this is just delegate negotiations to my DoF.
Unfortunately that means I cannot control my wage bill but it is the best solution that I thought of.
SI please sort this out quickly!!!

Hello,
I am new to FM but according to my understanding:
1) Yes you can technically get all your players on a "pay-as-you-play" contract (Non-Contract) but whether they will accept it is another question. Also, if another team wants one of your players who is on a Non-Contract, they don't have to pay compensation (they get them for free).
2) The cost is the money you will spend to arrange the friendly. The income is how many money you receive by arranging the friendly (usually gate receipts so the more fans and bigger stadium the better)
Hope this helps.

Hello SI,
I have a glitch which happens when I negotiate contracts for players. I clearly negotiated a set amount but when I press suggest offer the wage changes to the agent's offer which is substantially more than my offer. Screenshots below.
Save game uploaded which is called Journey Into Europe.fm

Fixtures: Aug-Oct 2020
August
BETRI DEILDIN MENN CHAMPIONS!!!
The first half of the month had a Mourinho feel about it, winning four straight by a one goal margin, the last winning the league title as IF lost to HB Torshavn, while also booking a place in the cup final. The second half, however, was less rosy. Smashed by Celtic (predictably) in the Champions League was followed by consecutive losses against NSI and B36 where we got picked apart during transition.
September
Because of the international break there were no games in the first half of the season. We got a ridiculously easy draw against Tre Flori (Sanmarinese champions) and smashed them 4-1 before respectfully bowed out to Dundalk in the next round. We came from behind to beat Vikingur Gota in our only league game.
October
LOGMANSSTEYPIO CHAMPIONS!!!
We won our last two league matches as Lindi Gardar fired himself sensationally to the top of the scoring charts before notching a late winner against NSI Runavik where we prevented them from playing on the counter attack. Thoroughly deserved double!
League Table
Won the league easily even though form dropped off after we won the title.
Youth Intake
Terrible intake. Best player Hans Eliasen with 15 finishing at 16 years old but only 2.5* potential, however signed all of them due to a failure in communicating between me and the HoYD. Released half of them once I realised my gaffe.
Personal Accolades
Won Manager of the Year with a win ratio of 77% in the league.
Note: Faroe Islands is now completed.

Club compensation for player whose contract is expired (Month to month)
in Football Manager General Discussion
Posted
Yes in quite a lot of countries you need to pay a compensation fee, I had this in Finland, Slovakia and Slovenia too.
I don't think so because I am in Slovakia now and I had to pay £40-50K compensation to sign a player based in Czech no matter the age (I bought one youngster and a 30 year old)
