Will we finally see a difference in the match engine between a 20 dribbler and a 10?

Or just a 6'6" player not skating like Bambi while a 5'2" player runs like an arachnid on acid. It's the same animation for every player size it seems and doesn't scale for the model, or maybe it's an engine limitation that will soon be lifted.

Wow. Imagine being this offended by womens football. I mean, sure, there's lot of other genuine gripes on Reddit, when isn't there on any given subject, but quite a lot of them are a thinly-veiled protest at women's football making the game worse/late/unplayable:D

Might have to see what bulk offerings there are on Popcorn at Costco for November/December.

Sure there are a lot of things to complain about, this isn't one of them. You simply can't expect to play a computer game in 2025 without a real graphics card.

It's an observation, partly based on the popularity of laptops in the enormously popular laptop thread. Indeed, the overarching discussion of recent months has been people wondering whether their laptop will cut it. For many, it won't.

You've imagined a complaint, but no offence taken, mistake easily made in this environment.

but trying to inject any common sense or rationality at this point is going to be swept away in a community sized tsumani of disinterest.

Most people are sitting back with the popcorn at the ready waiting for the inevitable train wreck. The voices of reason, patience and moderation have no chance in this maelstrom of failed expectation.

Twas always thus. My account age belies the several decades I've visited this forum around launch time looking for information and finding indifference and arguments.

The starter of rich creamy outrage typically contains the crunchy crouton of claimed disinterest and the soggy dumpling of defeatism during the pre-release period, then the undercooked Cacciatore of complaint once the beta is out. If you remain at the table long enough entrenched positions are assumed over the post-release dessert whereupon the After Eight of Entitlement faces off against the Fino of Fanboyism and the mods end up asking people to get off the table or kicking them out altogether.

I think they’ll be thinking the new unity graphics engine will sell the game on the consoles, the kids love graphics, and tbh, SI will win that market on that alone, I guess. Us old archaic PC users aren’t really wanted anymore. This is what worries me the most. It’s all going down the graphics route/console route and FM has never really been about the graphics, for me at least.

Once this can't be played on a laptop with at least a recent iGPU I'll be done with it. Not used a Desktop for FM in years aside from occasional weekends where kids and partner are away, most of my precious FM time is on the laptop around babies napping, babies needing a cwtch at night, watching footy, or commuting/stuck in a hotel.

Not withstanding the huge number of people in the Laptop Benchmark thread that shows a thriving number of Laptop users.

The only thing im shocked about is that there is no early access...  It was the main reason to pre-order....

Stands to reason if they have a delay.

Early Access at end of November, given Early Access is effectively a Beta Bug Hunt, would involve pushing the final release to mid December surely?

Not sure SI can please everyone here.

I'm pretty sure other FMs have had preorders up before we knew everything about the game. Many, many other games do, for certain.

No one is forcing you to preorder.

This. I've got 11 games on my Steam Wishlist at present, and 9 are available to pre-order. Some have nothing more than a few screenshots available at this point. It's entirely normal.

Interestingly a lot of the reviews are from users who say they made the move from FM due to the tedious issues like repetitive dialog and player interactions of FM.

They say it's more fun than the boring FM now

    Will give it a go

I think it definitely attracts those who preferred the dumbed down FM Touch, or the CM series post SI split. There's a simplicity in the lack of detail that will appeal to those looking at something more arcade and less simulation, but I share @Birdman10piyu's sentiment that the ME is awful. The only way i see it challenging FM anytime soon is if FM25 and onwards forsakes laptop playability in favour of desktop specs.

I wouldn’t hold your breath for data to back up the decision to favour women’s football being included at the expense of international football it’s obviously a headline feature that can be the only reason.

if what to cut to meet the deadline as we are over running was based on a logical decision they would cut women’s football as

    1) it’s not yet in the game so people won’t miss what they don’t have

    2) they already announced it as a “multi year” project it would be easy to announce that it’s more work than anticipated so postponing by a year people would understand

    3) it’s infinitey more work to. implement women’s football than just porting the current international management code and creating a UI in unity for international management. it would buy devs more time and maybe would have prevented a delayed launch

buy hey SI need a headline feature to get the buzz going and for advertising and selling units that I suspect is the bottom line nothing to do with metrics or data

Can you imagine the meltdown were the women's game to be announced as it has been and then delayed? I imagine the backlash from people who don't even play, follow, watch (or simulate) football would outweigh any metrics or commercial argument. SI can't afford to make itself a target for cancellation by bandwagon hoppers.

  10. Feels like CM 03/04 all over again.

The focus should have been FM25 on time for PC, but frankly Console and Touch can sod off too. Remains to be seen whether womens football has a large enough database and enough data to make it worth the challenge, so I'm not sure delaying FM for a virtue-signalling addition is a good idea if neither are polished as a result.

Might well skip this edition - By the time it's launched there's only half a season left and I lose interest once the football season ends and Spring/Summer is here.

A real shame too that FM24 has no real playability, I'm 500hrs down on most years, because it's just so bloated and hard to maintain a long term save.

As for weight, it's irrelevant. Doesn't impact the men's game and if it isn't realistic for a fluctuating women's game then it's time to be rid - it's cosmetic at best, bloated data at worst. The outrage incoming over making a change to accommodate women should be worth getting some popcorn in for though.

I'd say most computers in that range would be sufficient for most games

Are you looking for it to be a desktop replacement (plugged in most of the time)

or to travel with (be unplugged while playing)

Any preference where to buy from?

Is it just for FM or is it for other things?

Not as such, if I'm going to game, it'll be on the Desktop, I use a laptop for work, the accounts, for photography, home budgeting and organisation and have typically had a Dell XPS/Surface Book with higher end spec because I can take FM with me and hit bite size chunks, I've got a wee baby daughter so there's less desktop now too and my XPS 13 (Which was always too small really) has died. Well, I knelt on it, and it bent like 'Geller'd' spoon. I don't have time to sit at a PC for FM anymore, especially when a season in 1999 used to take an evening and now it's about a month

Preference comes down to not having free cash anymore. Babies are expensive it turns out. I'll finance it i imagine, so either 0% via Finance or Paypal probably. I don't like using Credit Cards and acruing interest. Normally I'd stick £250 a month aside, but little Coffee either grows out of clothes or trashes them with food/nursery at a rate that exceeds my ability to save. :D

I could also use Very? I've got an account with about £4000 credit on that's only ever used for BNPL baby stuff and appliances.

But yeah, FM is the only game I'll ever play on it. The XPS was great, but the Iris XE graphics really started to struggle by FM24 and I'd like something that's going to hopefully hold up until FM26/7.

I can't see SI suddenly taking a game that's so popular on laptops and making its demands such that you need a desktop - just look at the popularity of this thread after all, but they are also going to have to pander to the "needs to look like FIFA/Bambi on Ice" brigade so I'm certain that iGPU is no longer an option.

I'm mostly scouting 15", i7-13700##/Ryzen 9 7940## or above with at least 16GB of RAM and a Gen 4 SSD, Wifi 6/6E which is all easy enough, but I'm not familiar at all with mobile GPU's.

Edit: looking at Very, this seems like a decent option without looking like a kids RGB gaming rig: https://www.very.co.uk/asus-vivobook-pro-15-laptop-156in-fhd-amd-ryzen-9-geforce-rtx-4060nbsp16gb-ramnbsp512gb-ssd-m6500xv-lp036w-blue/1600910786.prd Obviously VERY will pretend it's actually £1599 and reduced, but they do this with all of them, as do other retailers, so I ignore the fictitious savings, it's £1000 on Asus and other retailers and has been for ages without a pretend discount. Could probably just get it on Asus direct with Paypal, but I'll also need to scout Blue Light Card discounts as they can be handy too.

  12. Yeah, thanks @kevhamster & @Delicate Dave.

I'm in that awkward place where my XPS13 has died and I'm struggling without a laptop, I really wanted to wait as long as possible so that FM25 as well as Next Gen Intel and AMD processors were out and reviews for spec/benchmarks before spending money. The important thing being the need for a dGPU for FM25.

I've a horrible feeling I'm going to need to wait rather than buy a new laptop now, rather than buy something that needs to last 3yrs but won't run FM.

It's also difficult to find a laptop that isn't a bulky 'gamer-laptop' where I can have slim and powerful without all the RGB on a slab with lights and logos all over it.

  13. First observation: It isn't validated for this patch. I'm just doing that now and then I'll have a look and see why it isn't loading.

Shows up in game, as a file, but when you test in editor it isn't there.

I've sometimes found changing the base year from 2000 can delay the start of a competition.

It has just been talked about in here

The easy way is to look at a skin that has it and then look into the sidebar menu table file and see how they have done it

Seemingly the code needs adding at the bottom of sidebar menu table xml, but I'm getting XML parsing errors when loading the skin, then no sidebar at all once loaded.

    Does this look right?

The Ryzen 7 7840HS would seem to be the sort of thing you're looking for:

    https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-compare/intel-core-i7-13700h-vs-amd-ryzen-7-7840hs

Do I even need a 13700H/HX when an i5 might do for FM?

No, you don't need the i7-13700H, however you will find it processes the game quicker than the 13th gen i5.  However, the 13th gen i5 chips are still superb, so you may want to go that route to save yourself a bit of money.

At the moment I've been eyeballing an Omen 16 with 13700HX and a 4060 for about £1400, but I'm concerned it's just going to be hot, loud and overkill for FM.

Perhaps check reviews for things regarding noise and heat, it's really impossible to say personally without trying the rig myself.

    Thank you Kev,

Yes I've built quite a few i5 desktops for people and they're excellent value gaming chips, as is the 7600/7600X.

I've had a look at the 7840HS based on your link there in trying to comprehend the differences to Intel in terms of performance/power/thermals and it seems there's several options for AMD from H (45W) through HS (35W) and on to HX (45W+OC'ing). Seems that they tend to be close to the comparable Intel chip whilst generally making for a cheaper laptop price. I'm going to look at some efficiency/thermals reviews to better understand which brand to go for. Thankyou for the recommendation.
