  1. I have been horrible on updating on here which I will catch up on soon hopefully. Into season 4 in Poland and just had this crazy match. First time trying to qualify for European comp. All square after the first leg and didnt expect this result on the road in leg 2. Especially when I started subbing guys at 60 minutes as we werent even getting shots and have a league match in 3 days. Up next Fiorentina.

*Had to come back and do a quick edit because we decided to do it again. Draw in the first leg. Go down 2 in the 2nd leg. Comeback with 90th minute to draw and win in pens lol. Just tripled my bankroll in one match.

  2. Is scouting knowledge of a country really slow in gaining this year? Im doing a LLM save and I just got the ability to scout all Europe. At the start of the year I got some 15+ ada scouts. They were all domestic scouts as they are the only ones I can see. I sent them out. For example I sent one to South Europe and through this whole year he has only gained a sliver of red in Greece. In older versions it would take a little time but after a year it seemed there would be a  lot more knowledge gained in a country. Is it better to just sign foreign with knowledge even if the stats are worse instead of getting a good scout and developing his knowledge of an area.

After back to back promotions the last two years I knew the squad probably wasn't good enough to go up again but I never thought we would struggle with relegation. With the club going professional I put some key players and my staff on full time contracts. The start of the year was tough. We had five strikers on the roster and all but two started the season with injuries. Two of those were long term. Last years top scorer Kyle MacFarlane missed basically the entire year only making 6 appearances. We stabilized after a month or so though and started moving up the table. We spent the entirety of the season from then on between 4th and 6th. We didn't do well in the Cups this year which helped us focus on the league while getting through injuries. The club finished the year in 5th and got Scunthorpe in the playoff first round. In an even home and away we fell 2-1 on aggregate.

We participated in three Cups through the year and didn't do well in any. It might have been a blessing in disguise as it allowed us to focus on the league while we got healthy. In the EFL Cup we beat Plymouth in round one and then were trounced by Villa in the 2nd round. In the EFL Trophy we finished bottom of the group without winning a match. We did pick up two wins in the first two rounds of the FA Cup against Port Vale and FC United of Manchester but were knocked out by Brentford.

Jack O'Reilly(Man City), Will Houston(Tottenham), and Erkan Yilmaz(Manchester Unites) were all signed after last season ended. We also picked up Fin Azzaz(West Brom) and Greg Williams(Wolves) in the preseason and both saw lots of minutes. Stuart Tomlinson (Birmingham) and Jacob Edwards (Swansea) were loaned in for the year and played well. Mark Scully (Stoke) was also loaned in but he got hurt for a couple months in preseason and came back and got hurt again a couple matches in. I cancelled the loan to save the wage bill. Zain Walker and Harry Thomas-Barker were both mid-season loans from our affiliate Bristol Rovers to help in the 2nd half.

Financially the club topped the million mark in the positive this year. A large chunk of the gain was from the leagues TV money share and the Brentford Cup match getting on TV. The wage budget for next season almost doubled so really looking forward to getting some new players in. We also had to sell Elijah Dixon-Bonner. He was demanding to be moved. I didn't want too but I also didn't want the squad morale to drop so I sold him for the "club record" 77k.

All in all it was a very successful first season in League Two. While a 3rd consecutive promotion would have been an accomplishment I am alright taking another year down here to get the roster right and setup the club going forward. The extra wage budget should let me bring in a couple top notch starters and some good young players off youth contracts from the Premiership in as depth and developmental. I want to be back competing in the Cups next season.

    • Top Players:
      • Terry Taylor - Again our anchor in the back-line. Want to get him locked up longer this off-season.
      • Mike Gordon - Didn't find the goal this year but did setup 7 as a fullback.
      • James Ball - Fans player of the season. The guy played a ton of matches and led the team in rating. 5 goals and 9 assists as our box to box mid.
      • Jacob Edwards - Loan from Swansea. Wasn't able to sign my top 2 left wing targets. Loaned him in and he scored 9 goals.
      • Max Thompson - Scored 18 goals in his second season. Won League Two player of the Year and refused to sign a new contract. As of now a couple weeks into preseason not signed elsewhere yet. Might look back later to try and sign at a discount
      • Greg Williams - Free from Wolves. Lead the team with 20 goals on the year.
      • Will Houston - Free from Tottenham. Signed as a backup central mid. Played in a ton of games and scored 5 while assisting 6.
      • Jimiel Chikukwa - Sankoh had a down year on the right but Jimiel picked up some of the slack. Need to improve this position in the off-season.

  4. Quick question on scouting packages and world knowledge. If I say get the Europe package does that mean it will show all players in Europe as if I had a scout with high knowledge for each European country? If so is their any reason to look for scouts with other world knowledge? Or do you need both to be able to see all players?

  5. I found my mistake. In my squad view I had it set for the Scouts Ability/Potential column which is displaying the scout report one. When I switched it to the Assistants View of Ability/Potential columns they are more in line with the coach reports. Unfortunately I was using that squad view to judge trialist and now have about 5 guys with potentials I probably wouldnt have signed them at lol

  6. Quick question on how PA is shown. For example I have a 20 year old GK I am looking at. When I did an initial scout report it had him at 2.5 Yellow and 2.5 Black stars for potential. Brought him on trial the last couple weeks. Now when I go into coach reports or his player profile its lists him as a 2.5 yellow and .5 black for potential yet the scout report still says 2.5 yellow and 2.5 black in the scout report and in my my squad page potential listing. Which listing should I go by?

It seems like most people use the same format for their posts, how are you all doing this so theyre identical? (might have made myself sound silly hope not)

Doesn't have to be identical. Could just be a sentence or two with an update on how the season went with a couple screenshots. Doesn't have to be extravagant or anything just an way to keep everyone up to date. If you want to go fancy you can. Some people dont like to and some like to. Completely up to you. All here for the fun.

Going into our first season the National League I never expected the squad to really struggle near the relegation zone. I figured we would be a good mid table club who had a chance at the playoff. The club completely exceeded those expectation though. Up until Christmas we only had one loss in the league and finished with only four on the season.  We did have fifteen draws on the season though which is what kept us from running away with the title.  Again we came down to the last day of the season needing a point to take the title. We got a win and secured a the League Title and consecutive promotions. We will be in League 2 next year! In the FA Cup we beat Hednesford Town, Bolton, and Walsall to get to the 3rd Round where we drew Man City at home. I expected to get smacked but the team did great. We held them off the board for 75 minutes before they broke through. We tied it up 10 minutes later but then conceding a minute later and falling 2-1 (Highlights). I had a goal of defending our FA Trophy this year to bring in more prize money. We did so without much trouble. Eventually we met Chelmsford in the final and defeated them 4-0 (Highlights) even though the Chelmsford manager saying we weren't that good after the match. Along the way we set the Cup record for goals scored. With the win we secured our second consecutive Double! We are also going Professional and expanding the stadium with moving up a league and. I was also voted Manager of the Year.

I did my best to raid former premiere league youngsters who were out of contract again. Mike Gordon, Terry Taylor, Elijah Dixon-Bonner, and Max Thompson were all players we got early in the season. James Ball wasn't from a Premiere club but was a very good addition. Joe Budd and Kieran Phillips both were loaned from our parent club Bristol but I did expect more from them. I think its time to look for a new parent club. Lee Hoskins was an important loan from Ipswich who I'm hoping to sign once his contract ends. Quite a few trials in this year as well but not many finds. After the season ended we were able to poach Jack O'Reilly, Will Houston, Erkan Yilmaz, and Andre Nelson from their Premiere league clubs before their contracts expired and will feature next season.

The club is in a great spot with finances with a positive balance of 460k. The Man City match was the big earner garnering us nearly 200k itself between the gate and TV money.

With two straight promotions I am really interested to see how the club will do in League 2.

    • Top Players:
      • Terry Taylor - Free from Wolves. Was our CB rock all season. Can play in the midfield as well.
      • Peter Kioso - Free from Luton. Great production from right back with 11 assists.
      • James Ball - Free from Solihull Moors. Great production from the midfield with 7 goals and 10 assists.
      • Elijah Dixon-Bonner - Free from Liverpool. I did expect more offensive production but he did well all year.
      • Lee Hoskins - Loan from Ipswich. Scored 11 times and setup 2 from the wing with one of the highest ratings on the team. Would like to see more assists but will take the goals.
      • Kyle MacFarlane- Teams leading scorer again with 23 goals.

When getting promoted to L2 do you HAVE to put everyone on a full time contract ? i put a post further up asking about moving up to L2, but guess it was missed. Thanks

I put my staff on full time right away. Players only do as they come in new, contract expired, or if an existing player I see as able to stay when we move to to league 1 and needs the extra training.

Quick question for those of you in the latter part of your saves. Did you find player recruitment more challenging once you made the step up to the Championship? Up until now, my system of bringing in anyone released by premier league clubs for a trial, coupled with careful use of the loan system, has served me well. This summer feels a bit different, as I haven’t really found anyone so far who I think is up to the standard needed for the Championship.

At that stage players released by premiere clubs arent as effective as the good ones will be targeted by other Premiere league clubs and the rest will be below Championship quality. In Championship I'm looking to raid foreign players for out of contract or cheap buys.

Going into our second season at Barwell I had two main goals. The first was to gain promotion and the second was a decent Cup run to help with our finances. On the league side we hung around mid table the for the first 5 weeks or so. Then we climbed up into a playoff spot and never left it for the rest of the season. Going into the last match day we only needed a draw to win the league. We beat Braintree 2-0 to win the league and gain promotion!  In the FA Cup we beat Royston, Lowestoft Town, and Boston Utd in the qualifying rounds to reach the 1st Round against Sutton Utd. Unfortunately it was not our day and we lost 1-0 knocking us out of the competition. The FA Trophy though was a different story. We made it all the way to the Final where we met the team that knocked us out of the FA Cup and the promotion playoffs last year. This year though we exacted revenge and won 2-0 (Highlights) to claim the FA Trophy and pull of a Double. As a result of winning the league we have been promoted but will have to switch grounds. Due to league rules we will be moving from Kirkby Road to Liberty Way  in Nuneaton. I also claimed the manager of the year award.

Roster wise we had many players in throughout the whole year on trials. We were able to get some good players from Premiere League clubs whose youth contracts just expired. Dermot Mee, Imaad Sankoh, and Lestyn Hughes are all youngster from the top division. Jordan Cranston and Sam Barnes are two good non contract players we got later on. Theo Widdrington was out of contract from our parent club Bristol so we snapped him up. We did take on Joe Budd from our parent club and he had an ok season. Was hoping to get more impact players from them but nobody wanted to come.

Financially it was a good season. We were well within our wage budget and with the prize money from the FA trophy we have a balance of 137k in the positive.

A very successful 2nd season is in the books. Going up I don't think this team is in any real danger of having to fight off relegation. I think with an added player or two we will be in the top half going for a playoff spot.

    • Top Players:
      • Mazeed Ogungbo-Free from Arsenal- Our rock in CB. Strong all season. Unfortunately he is refusing to sign a new deal and wont be back.
      • Jack Evans- Free from Blackburn- Strong in the middle of the park. Scored 5 and setup 8.
      • Imaad Sankoh- Free from Watford-Had a good season on the wing. Scored 8 goals and 4 assists. Was hoping for more goals setup but he was very strong overall every match. Getting caps for Sierra Leone.
      • Kyle McFarlane-A strong first full season after coming in partway through last season. Set a new club season record with 24 goals.
      • Mitchell George-Last years top scorer missed out on matching that number by 1 scoring 19 this year but did play less.
      • Theo Widdrington- Free from Bristol Rovers-A madman in the midfield. Scored 14 goals from the center of the park and added 6 assists.
      • Michael Tait-Free from Aston Villa- Good season with 15 goals

The first season in charge at Barwell was quite successful. We had a tough start to the season and were in and around the relegation zone the first ten games and then we started getting things together and doing well. We were knocked out of the FA Cup early via Fylde and Notts County got us in the 1st Round of the FA Trophy so no real Cup runs. We did set the league record for draws as we were competitive in most matches.

Financially the club spent the season losing money and despite an injection of money mid season from the board we finished a couple thousand in the red. We had good control of the wage budget. A big sticking point was the contracts for Tristian Dunkley and Brady Hickey. Two players on massive contracts for little quality but accounted for almost 25% of the wage bill. I tried to move them all season but they wouldn't sign elsewhere.

Roster wise I tried to get a new starter for all positions on free. We constantly had players in on load all through the season. The good news was half way through I was able to get the board to organize a U23 team so all the trials weren't mucking up the first team training.

We were able to finish the season in 5th spot and in the playoffs. Unfortunately we ran in Fylde again and lost away ending our season while they gained promotion.

A good first season though. Hopefully we can pickup a couple more players now that we can get Hickey and Dunkley off the books. Really want to make a cup run to help in finances next year

    • Top Players:
      • Jake Askew - Came over on free from Chelsea. Had a good season but is looking for a large raise. Not sure if he will return
      • James McQuilkin- Free from Telford. James was instrumental in the midfield setting up the attack. Set a team record with 17 assists on the season.
      • Mitchell George- Free from Burnley. Mitchell was out top scoring threat netting 20 times and setting the team season record.
      • Matthew O'Neill- Free from Burnley. Matthew had a good season on the wing. His numbers weren't fantastic but he came up at important times quite a bit.

  13. No what I meant was an easy way to see which staff have knowledge of multiple areas. For example I dont really use a DoF for other than selling unwanted players so I look for one that has a lot of world knowledge more so than attributes so they passively boost the club knowledge of players. Is there a way to add to the staff search screen the countries a staff member knows so its easy to identify them.

unlucky mate - bit harsh after survival season one.  Did they have any other concerns when you stayed up??  Brutal

I think what pushed it over the tipping point was there was my transfer support was always real low. I was doing a youth save so I wasn't signing anyone and I got rid of quite a few on the roster after taking over. Dont know if that was a factor but I was suprised to it came so early. Never gotten the boot that early in a season after survival in any FM before.

After a successful FM18 challenge in Norway and a not so good attempt in FM19 I am going to do this again for FM20.  I am staying in Scandinavia again but heading over the border from Norway to Sweden.

Good to see some of the same names back in every year. Good luck Sweden can be a fun save

As for me, i am currently playing the first season of a save.  So far it's not going overly well and having a lot of draws.  Currently under a bit of pressure on my job.  Will see if i make it through and survive...

Same going for me in Turkey. Just above the Relegation line with 6 to go and I got the "could be last in charge" news article. Luckily won that match 2-1. Just finished the games and finished 3 pts above the drop. Taking 7 of 9 pts the last three games saved us. Tough to survive the first year going youth save. Hopefully hte board keep me around long enough to get a footing.
