bad luck

cracking match, and very well done to get it as close as they did, cracking match

but signs were good, we came very close, and we showed in the first test what we were capable of, just makes series a bit more interesting.

the ICC say you cant play a test match after 7pm ??

WTF ? how soopid is that. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

In a day where there are no interruptions. If you haven't reached the 90 overs by 6pm then you have to stop. So say you only play 75 overs in the day. That's 15 you lose from the match. It's stupid

If they get close the field goes back and the bowlers start bowling wide, slows the rate down.

If we win this match we cant lose the ashes right? Worst we can do is draw them but we have to win to get them back right?

And if the ball hits the stumps it has to knock the bails off to be out? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

If Australia win the next test, then the series is a draw and they hoild onto the Ashes, so need at least a draw from the next one.

And the bails have to fall off for it to be out.

It's half 6 in the morning, and I'm just back from work, so I've not read through the thread much, but does anyone else think that Australia should declare now?

In my opinion, it would ask some serious questions of England - in the Trent Bridge test, they batted poorly in the 4th innings in what was a "pressure" situation (I put pressure in inverted commas, since they had 3 and a half sessions to score 129 runs - something they should have achieved a lot easier) - if they're put in to bat then it puts them under pressure to bat well for at least a day to give Australia a score that's defendable. Strauss, Flintoff and at a push Trescothick aside, no-one in the first innings batted at all well when all that was required was to occupy the crease on a good batting track - get the basics right and runs will come - Hayden and Langer both showed this in their innings, and Strauss showed it in his innings.

There's every possibility that England could be bowled out cheaply - especially against Warne and McGrath - leaving Australia 3-4 sessions to chase 250-300. It would be a high risk strategy, but with great risk comes great reward.

As has been said numerous times now, the choice was between Thorpe and Pietersen, not between Thorpe and Bell.

Bell had pretty much cemented his place in the side already, how were the selectors to know how inept he'd be?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

If Thorpe had played instead of Pietersen we wouldn't have had Shane Warne dropped at Old Trafford and it might be 3-1 going into this test though icon_wink.gif

Ah, so the contracts up and its like the footy where everyone bids a couple of quid and Sky offer half a zillion or something like that?
