ProddingAHoneyBadger
So I too have been introduced to CM01/02 as I only started playing FM from FM10 onwards, and I'm loving the retro-ness about it so I've decided to give a good go at having a retro career starting at the bottom, well, with my local club Hereford United who are in the Conference. Here's all the information so far: We're tipped to be relegated out of the playable leagues so my first aim will be to hopefully bring in a couple of players and aim for lower mid-table, nothing too ambitious. Here's the squad, I actually don't recognize any names since I only started following football in the 09/10 season but the most well known player is 36 year old Steve Bull who is an England international with 13 caps & 4 goals who spent 12 years playing for Wolves. These are the tactics I'm using, attacking and narrow, much like puncturing the other team with a needle *bad analogy I know* And here are the loaded leagues, all the the lowest available division: First things first will be to get my head around the transfers & scouting system. ProddingAHoneyBadger
August 2001 What a good first competitive game, we scored 4 goals from 4 different players. A strong away win against Boston United. An even stronger home win against Telford with Jamie Hudson getting a 10 rating! A far from boring 3-3 draw against Farnborough with 2 goals coming from ex-international Steve Bull. Finally, a 3-1 win at home to Southport with substitutes Pearson & Kevan coming on in the 2nd half to give us all 3 points. Conference Table Holding our own as we were tipped for relegation we currently sit 3 points clear in 1st!
ProddingAHoneyBadger
September 2001 Another good result for the guys, no key solo goalscorer as of yet though. 2nd 3-1 win in a row, at home to Yeovil with Gavin being the standout performer. Strong win away at Morecambe. My first defeat as manager, annoyingly against one of the lower teams in the league, we just weren't good enough. A close win against relegation zoners Scarborough. Jamie getting another MoM award with a 2-0 win. Annoying draw against Stevenage and now they've injured our top scorer Steve Bull. Conference Table Barnet have snuck ahead but we're still looking very strong in 2nd.
ProddingAHoneyBadger
October 2001 Transfers: 13 signings, 6 have gone straight into the first team, the other 7 are currently in the reserves. Yep, a 6-1 away thrashing of Chester with Michael Pearson scoring 5 of the goals! Easy win over Maidenhead in the Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with another 2 goals from Pearson! Brought back down to earth with a 2-1 loss at Dover. Conference Table Again just behind Barnet and with only 1 promotion place it's going to be difficult if it's like this closer to the end... ProddingAHoneyBadger
November 2001 Michael Pearson bags another in a straight forward enough win over Leigh RMI Another from Pearson as his goal gets us the 3 points. Out of the FA Cup at the First Round, Pearson couldn't help us this time. A very disappointing draw in the FA Trophy against non-league Emley.. Steve Bull comes back from injury and makes an instant impact for us. Conference Table Only 2 league fixtures this month and they were both wins, and Barnets' sudden drop in form puts us in front! ProddingAHoneyBadger
December 2001 The start of a bad month, both Bull and Pearson grabbed goals but it wasn't enough. Bull put us ahead but Hayes went and equalised in the 62nd minute and we couldn't get another in a disappointing draw. And even worse that we couldn't score against Margate. This result was the worst because Telford are currently bottom of the league...we couldn't even score. The festive slump continues to no win in 5 and it's done us no good on the table. Conference Table 6 points behind now, I hope Barnet slip up badly and we start winning again.
ProddingAHoneyBadger
January 2002 An awful month and this was the only win, and that was in the FA Trophy. Here's the rest of the fixtures, I didn't take screenshots as the message would have been the same. Conference Table We've gone all the way down to 8th so I've now changed tactics to a 4-4-2 with the left & right midfielder going forward as a last ditch attempt to do anything good. I also thought this was a bit funny considering how he's done in real life.
pricey687
I nearly did this last year but with the very first game from '92 was going to call it 'back to the beginning' but I never wrote it up in the end still play that career every now and then, anyway good luck. ProddingAHoneyBadger
February 2002 The first game after the tactic change and we finally have a win! A nice victory in the 4th Round of the FA Trophy. Disappointing home loss to Morecambe which briefly stops us from climbing the table more. The surge up the table continues with a close victory over Northwich. And a tight win over Leigh to finish off the month. Conference Table Finally improving, but is is too little too late? Most likely.
ProddingAHoneyBadger
March 2002 Didn't take any individual screenshots as again, we were plain bad, I'm thinking one more formation change and if that doesn't work then I'll go back to the first tactic. ProddingAHoneyBadger
Wow, so that's what the game looked like back then Pity you couldn't keep up a strong start. Yep, this is old school football management and it is a shame but still decent considering we were supposed to be relegated. This was, quite simply, the most addictive CM/FM ever. I have tried to get it working on newer machines for years, though. How did you manage it? You have to download the game from here: http://www.champman0102.co.uk/downloads.php or use this video tutorial Sir Stephen George Bull should always be the first name on your team sheet . ProddingAHoneyBadger
April 2002 Gavin Williams turns on the style in the 5-1 thrashing of Dover with a hat trick. Stve Bull proving he's still got it with both the goals to beat Nuneaton. First leg of the FA Trophy Semi-Final and it couldn't have gotten much worse...losing 5-2 at home against 10 men. Followed by a narrow loss against Dagenham & Redbridge. The 2nd leg of the FA Trophy and we somehow manage to stay in it and take it to a replay! And we lost 4-2 on penalties. ProddingAHoneyBadger
May 2002 - The end of Hereford 2 disappointing losses to mark the end of a season that went bad from November, but however, all is not gloomy for me. I've taken a job at Cardiff City, 2 divisions higher than Hereford!

ProddingAHoneyBadger
August 2002 What a great way to start off at Cardiff, Peter Thorne bagging a hat-trick and us winning 4-2. Another win, away to fellow Welsh side Wrexham with Thorne grabbing his 4th in 2 games. A thrashing of Northampton in the 1st Round of the League Cup, Thorne grabbing 2 more goals! First draw of the season, Thorne grabs yet another although ti wasn't enough to get all 3 points from Bury. 2 more from Thorne! an easy away win against Oldham. ProddingAHoneyBadger
September 2002 Thorne grabs our lone goal in the 3-1 defeat, he's unstoppable Thorne & Gudnason both get a brace in an amazing 4-4 draw. You guessed it, 2 more from Thorne in beating Chesterfield 4-1. League Cup 2nd Round and we lost narrowly to West Brom, not too bothered though. Nice win over Burnley and 2 games without Thorne scoring :O Touch and go victory over Huddersfield. A Thorne goal gives us a point to take home thankfully. ProddingAHoneyBadger
October 2002 Good win to start the month, not a lot to say on the matter. Thorne gets another goal & MoM award, he's just something else. 2 from Karl Murray and 2 more from Thorne in a very close game against Rotherham. Another 2 from Thorne as we clinch a draw against Swansea. Another win and another goal from Thorne. Even when he doesn't score he gets MoM a nice easy away win at Oxford. Second Division League Table
ProddingAHoneyBadger
November 2002 A tight game at home to Bournemouth but we managed to hold them off long enough to get all 3 points. Peter Thorne gets yet another brace! First Round of the FA Cup and we scrape past Darlington An annoying draw against Bristol, even more so when they injured the beloved Peter Thorne! Finish the month on a high away to Blackpool, our form is still great! Second Division League Table

ProddingAHoneyBadger
Sorry for no updates, I've been busy playing GTA V! December 2002 Not a good start to the month, a home defeat to Cambridge in the FA Cup 2nd Round. Focused on the league now but another loss to Stoke even with Peter Thorne scoring. 3 games and 3 losses, woeful, just woeful. We didn't lose! A valuable point against Oldham with Peter getting the only goal for us. There we go! Our first win in December as Peter grabs another 2 away to Reading. And we finish the month thrashing Wrexham and guess who got the goals? Peter Thorne gets 4! Second Division League Table
Lenzar
Why wasn't Nikolov suspended after his red card?
Northernpilgrim
IIRC back then, suspensions kicked in after 14 days to allow for appeals etc, so it was possible to pick up another red card before the ban started. Now the bans are immediate, and appeals much quicker

ProddingAHoneyBadger
January 2003 The first game of a great month, Swindon are 2nd from bottom so an easy run of the mill win. Followed by an easier away win to 3rd from bottom Huudersfield with Ruud Kool getting a perfect 10. Thorne gave us the only goal in the Vans Trophy South 2nd Round. Notts County are currently 3rd so to get a 3-0 win and 2 players getting a perfect 10 is great! And to finish off a bore 0-0 draw where we were the better team overall but we go an entire month without conceding.
