tbh these three early signings no doubt mean that even the intense specultion the papers throw up is going to slow down considerably.

Therefore I propose that a suitable scaling down method is taken into account to lets say approx 1/3 of everyones first guess.

Listening to some journalist who covers south american football on 5 live last night, and they spoke about Anderson, although only briefly as he didn't play much there before he moved to europe.

My favourite thing he said was that he had "acceleration like the Millenium Falcon" icon_biggrin.gif

Should be a good replecement for Giggs, who has gone from that level to having acceleration like the Millenium Stadium icon_frown.gif

Exactly what theis said re: transfers as well. We're not going to get linked with pretty much any midfielders any more, our defence was pretty sorted anyway barring maybe a traditional fergie left back, so essentially it's only going to be strikers that we'll be said to be targetting. And we've already been linked with 11, all of the high profile ones, so it's not going to increase by much. Bugger it.

Theis, which office you working in? Salisbury Square / Dorset Rise, or have they got you in Farringdon? Live in Clapham as well, it's awesome icon14.gif

United's own 'Fab Four' set to make big noise

From The Times today. Pretty much Carlos waxing lyrical about the future attacking possibilities we now have at the club since we've signed Nani & Anderson. Also a bit about Hargs as well as numerous potential striker targets (Tevez is still being considered apparently so that should make Saha happy...our Saha not King Louis obviously). The last sentence in the article however, is unlikely to make anyone happy in the slightest, least of all Taz. I'll let you all take a look but it’s the first I've heard of such a stipulation as part of the Anderson deal.

Also, I'll say again that while Torres is my preferred choice of striker if we're signing someone for that position, if we can pick up Anelka for up to £10mill based on a limited amount being left in the kitty it won't be bad business IMO.

Anelka worth probably around £7 million in my eyes, so it wouldn't be too far off. Still don't entirely know what I think of the prospect of him playing for us. He's basically very similar to Saha - undoubtedly a better out and out finisher, but probably not as strong or as good in the air. He has the advantage over Louis of being able to kick a football without rupturing his spleen or something, but the disadvantage of making Ruud van Nistelrooy look like the epitome of bonhomie and team spirit.

Basically if Fergie could curb the twattishness (and that's a big if) he'd be worth a look. But I don't neccessarily see that happening - people go on about Fergie 'straightening people out', but in most situations he's actually just got rid of awkward players. Where he's persuaded those with 'issues' to stay, they've often been external affairs (Cantona / Ronaldo etc) as opposed to internal problems within the team.

And less we forget, he's played for the bitters AND the dippers.

He's never managed 20 league goals in a season in his entire career ( i know you didn't specify in the league alone). Only had two seasons where he's managed a goal every other league game. He's a player with great ability, but who in terms of productivity has flattered to deceive virtually everywhere he's been. Add that to what Ali said about team spirit, which many people have pointed out as being so good this year, and we shouldn't be touching him with barge pole.

Mark in your team he'd score 20 goals, since his 17 goals for Arsenal when he was 19 I think, he hasn't really been at a club with the same style of play as yours, quick and direct. You may laugh but the closest style of play he's had since then was the 2 years with us under KK and as you can see 2 seasons with 15+ goals for us is 2 extremely good seasons.

I can understand why alot of you wouldn't want him though, he is a twat, but he would do the job. I think he'd be another masterstroke Fergie signing

Yeah, the whole Liverpool Citeh thing isn't the cause of his ****ishness in my eyes, it just reinforces it.

I think he'd get 20 odd goals if he stayed fit and was given a full run, because like I said, he's a lot like Saha (and before anyone mentions it, he WOULD have got 20 goals had he not been made out of glass icon_mad.gif).

I don't think he couldn't do a job talent wise, i just don't think he's as good as a lot of people in here make out. But my main objection is his personality.

Such a big thing has been made of our team spirit this season, i can't understand why people would be willing to take such a huge risk in disrupting all that. The guy is a known troublemaker, and at a club like us he's not going to be the star, or play every game, which is only going to make things worse.

RE: Anelka...

#1: £10mill is an estimate based on Bolton paying £8mill and in a shocking turn of events wanting to make a profit if they sell him. Yes if we could get him for slightly less or only marginally more than Bolton shelled out then it would be even better business but ultimately I think that £10mill for him represents as realistic a price as you're going to get in the current market.

#2: I maintain that his attitude problems have significantly diminished. Yes he and his brothers engineered his move from Arsenal to Real, he had problems at PSG with the management and he obviously got fed up at Fener before he moved to Bolton but from what I remember his spells at other clubs didn't end in acrimony. Real didn't work out because he wasn't producing and as a result couldn't usurp Raul or Morientes from the starting line-up. Liverpool was a mid-season loan and Houllier decided against securing him at the end of the season because he wanted to pursue Cisse despite him playing reasonably well when he got the chance to play iirc. I don’t think anyone can say he did badly at Citeh in relation to what the team itself produced in his time there and when he did move to Turkey it wasn’t (afaik) after an extended period of public moaning on his part & at the end of the day Fener were going to give him the opportunity to play for domestic honours and represent them in the CL. And again, at Bolton he hasn’t stirred anything up. He’s got on with his job, worked hard for the team, and was top scorer in a team with the ninth best goal return in the top ten. Anyone telling me that Fergie couldn’t get as good or better return out of Anelka & keep him in line as well as Big Sam is talking rubbish IMO.

#3: He gets goals and he’s rarely injured. In fact I can’t recall him ever having a serious injury, and from what I can tell the amount of games he tends to play when first choice backs this up. Yes his goal tally last season was modest but he had to adapt to a different style than he’s probably been used to under Allardyce but like I said above, he still ended up contributing about 20-25% of Bolton’s league goals. As for the rest of the career stats mark has highlighted, I don’t think they tell the whole story tbh. For a start you can write off the 95/96 & 96/97 stats because barely any of those will have been starts due to his age, he certainly didn’t start for Arsenal until the next season. He was 18/19 in his first full season for them and obviously wasn’t going to be first choice especially with Bergkamp ripping it up that season and iirc Ian Wright still contributing until his injury allowed Anelka in (thanks Wiki). His stats in 98/99 as a 19/20 year old speak for themselves. The Real, PSG & Liverpool stats I’ve already dealt with above. His Citeh stats are very good since he was playing in a team that finished 9th and 16th in the two full seasons he played and he was averaging a goal every other game in the half season he played before heading to Turkey where yes the goals didn’t exactly flow, but given the overall standards over there I’ll bet the opportunity didn’t live up to his expectations and that affected his form. I don’t know of any other troubles that might have influenced his performances.

#4: While I’ll agree that he’s not as prominent aerially as Saha, he’s at least as quick and as strong as him and tbh, given the amount of opportunities he’d get, I’d back him as a better and more composed finisher as well.

That's why I'd take the risk if we didn't have enough money for Torres/Eto'o/Villa/Tevez et al.

He's off to Spain though probably and as you say the cost would be prohibitive.

Anelka has done nothing to warrant the chance of even proving his worth to United. Do. Not. Want.

He is definitely not the next Cantona despite the Frenchness, the surliness and the odd brother/s.

On the pitch he's fine, its interviews and off the field stuff that really annoyed me

Things like this, a month or so after he signed for you:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Nicolas Anelka feels his reputation cost him a move to 'big club' this summer.

The 27-year-old, who has starred for Real Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool during a glittering career, has always had a reputation of being hard to handle.

So after deciding to leave Fenerbahce in the summer, he was left with few options and decided to accept a move to Bolton.

"When I left Fenerbahce, I would have liked to join a big club. That's not been possible," said Anelka, who is yet to score a Premiership goal since his return to England.

"It seems I have a difficult character. People who know me are aware I am not like that, but the reputation follows me around.

"I would be with a big European club today without that. It is the only regret I can feel."

Despite his regret of missing out on a big club, Anelka insists he wants to stay at The Reebok for a number of years.

"I'm very happy I've signed for four years. I want to get settled," he said.

"But I haven't given up the idea of playing for a more highly-rated team one day."

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Comments like these made me so angry whilst he was with us, obviously at Utd though you wouldn't see stuff like this

tbh I think I'd take Anelka, certainly if Fergie were to decide he's good enough then I wouldn't doubt him.

I remember when he arrived on the scene at Arsenal and he was just so ****ing good, I thought he'd win them the league in '99 icon_biggrin.gif with him Kanu and Bergkamp they just looked so good. It's a good job he had problems and never realised his full potential because if he and Henry had got together we'd have been in trouble. If there's a chance of him being the player he could've been with us then I'd take that risk, even if he isn't that good he's still a very capable player.

I thought at Bolton he spoke openly about his 'need' to go to a bigger club? Obviously wouldn't be applicable if he played for us, but symptomatic I think of his awkward nature, and puts in question how he'd react to being subbed, dropped, or given criticism by Fergie.

Having said that I still think we need a striker, and if Fergie gets rid of Saha he might be our only option, assuming that Eto'o/Torres/Villa/Huntelaar et al are too expensive. I'd take him over Bent or Defoe in a heartbeat.

I still think we should look at David Nugent as well tbh :/

I know you've talked about Anelka being a troublemaker, but last season his behaviour was exemplary. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Comments like these made me so angry whilst he was with us, obviously at Utd though you wouldn't see stuff like this </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

yeah, the other thing is that there are numerous players who feel like that and just don't say it, whether that's any better because it doesn't upset team morale I'm not sure.
