Arsenal's Youth End of Season Update 2019-20

A really poor season which saw Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions' League for the first time in 23 years. It wasn't great, but there was some progress with the younger players.

Nah no point in doing it have 2 players from youth set up that have close to 150 international caps and over 500 apps for club, too late for now as only have this season and bio to go from.

An amazing season from the youngster as he seized the starting spot at ST and ran with it. An amazing goal-scoring return from a 15-year old. Attributes haven't really improved though (and Balance went down by 1)...

Pau FC - Youth Academy

My second season at Pau FC saw the first player from our youth academy get a run of games in the first team. I will add that his inclusion in the first team wasn't entirely based on merit, our first choice CAM broke his foot in the middle of the season, and then my 2nd choice also got injured which lead to a run of games for 16 year old Sami Denis, he did alright to be fair considering we're a relegation battling team in his 7 starts he got 1 assist and 2 goals. I'm not massively impressed by his mental stats aside from the flair and off the ball, he's okay technically aside from the horrendous finishing and defensive stats. Aside from his strength which I assume will at least slightly improve with age, his physical stats are are quite impressive especially his pace. I'd love to send him out on loan to a CFA side but none of them seem to ever want any of my young players however promising their potential might be, tried setting up a feeder club link but the board wont have it based on the fact we have no money, but i'm sure if we had a CFA club as a feeder for loans we wouldn't pay them anything anyway. If he can kick on a bit more in the U19 he could definitely end up being rotation/back up for CAM and CM, he's accomplished at CM with CAM his main position, training him to be a CM at the moment to make him more versatile. I play with a narrow 4-1-2-1-2 so his ability to play on the right wing is of no use to me at all, not that I would play him there anyway with his dreadful crossing.

Summary: Broke through as a result of first team players being injured. Did better than I could have expected. Hoping will make it in some capacity at some point in the next few seasons as he has the potential to do so.

Just as a sort of FYI i'll only be posting players once they've actually somewhat broke into the first time, at least until i'm at a higher level in the game, as at the moment so many of the players I get through have very high potential but might not actually make it or end up being that good, so seems pointless taking so many screenshots of so many players for them not to make it eventually.

Pau FC - Youth Academy

My third season at Pau FC lead to a lot of the older players getting ready to retire/becoming so bad that it made more sense playing youth players that were about as good as them that at least have the potential to be a lot lot better than them in the future. The main guy to benefit from this was left back Ahcene Ziane, he was knocking on the door for all of last season but I never had the balls to play him, he'd improved a hell of a lot in the U19's throughout last season and after a few games into this season I gave the 17 year old a go and never looked back. He's not amazing technically, but he has impressive mental and physical stats especially for his age for this level. Sami Denis didn't see as much first team football in the way of starts, but he was an ever present on my bench and regularly came on in games, ended up starting 4 games. We saw many injuries to our main defensive midfielder, luckily we have a seemingly never ending conveyor-belt of defensive midfielders being produced by the academy, Kevin Haller ended up with 8 league starts at DM and was impressive enough for me to consider him being our first choice DM next season - he's got room to improve technically, mentally and physically but I like his work rate, positioning, tackling and stamina stats and feel he will only improve elsewhere with more game time. We're not blessed with a massive amount of depth or decent striker back-up, this lead to 16 year old John Tagoe getting some games and sub appearances - his only goal actually came in a 1-0 win in the league, he also did well to chip in with 4 assists. This season also saw debuts for two of our defensive midfielders as substitutes - Karim Amroune and 15 year old Abderrahmane Aichour. The final debut of the season, also coming from the sub bench was for versatile 15 year old Yanis Bats who can fill in anywhere from CM to CAM to even up-front apparently, though with rated 2 finishing he aint playing up-front for me any time soon

Summary: Featured heavily as a substitute. He's not kicked on massively from last season but I suppose this is as a result of only being a sub rather than starting all that many games. I'd like to loan him out but as I've said nobody ever seems to want any of my players on loan. Hopefully he can kick on through the sub appearances as he's not good enough to be first choice CAM at the moment, has 4* potential and is only 1.5* rated at the moment so room for improvement.

Summary: Quickly managed to establish himself as first choice left back. He'll remain first choice left back as long as I can't get anyone better in over the summer, the fact he can also fill in reasonably well at right back is quite pleasing as well. Currently 2.5* rated having started the season as 2* rated, has potential to be 4 or 5* rated so hoping more first team football will make him improve even more next season.

Summary: Filled in as back-up DM late in the season, performed well enough to convince me to play him in the last few games despite my DM being back and fit. He's currently 2.5* rated with 4* potential, you'd think that would give him a good chance of making it at the club but I actually have 5 other DM's in my academy that have higher potential ratings than him as crazy as that is His ability to play DM, MC and even at CB gives him a good chance of at least being a rotation option if and when the other defensive midfielders in my ranks catch up with him.

Summary: I'd say wrong guy at the right time springs to mind with this guy. He's really not thaaaat great and only got games because my 2nd choice striker got injured and my depth at ST is really terrible outside of the main 2. He actually did do well though with 4 assists and a goal that won me a game 1-0. He's -0.5* at the moment with a potential rating of 3* which isn't awful but i've had a striker come through in my latest youth intake who is already rated better than him at 14 and has a 4* potential rating so next season he will probably be playing instead of Tagoe. Tagoe does have the benefit of being able to fill in at CAM but he's not amazing there so I doubt i'd play him there anyway.

Summary: Another one from my conveyor-belt of defensive midfielders. He's currently 1.5* rated with 4* potential, he benefited from Aichour (see below) being injured on a few occasions where Aichour would have made my bench but as he was injured I put Amroune there instead. That's not to take anything away from Amroune though as he does have some very nice mental stats and room to improve in other areas. He could definitely be good enough to be a rotation option at DM/MC if he can continue to progress and improve, if he doesn't make it will be because of our ridiculous amount of defensive midfield talent rather than him not being good enough to make it at this level.

Summary: In terms of potential he is the best player we have in our academy. 1.5* rated at the moment with 4.5* potential. Seems to be slightly injury prone which is a cause for concern but has impressive mental stats and is very good physically for his age with decent technical stats, also has a fantastic moustache for a 15 year old! Will probably feature a bit more next season and definitely has the potential to make it here, most likely at the expense of Haller.

Hong Kong Young Player of the Year - 2017/18

Notes: Tsang wasn't going to score 29 goals this season, because we didn't play in any Asian competitions. But rating aside, he became a more well-rounded player and could have scored 20 goals if he didn't get injured for a few games. His key ratings aren't going to go up much because of the poor facilities, but he'll be a great scorer for the club (he won't leave as long as I'm here at least!) for years to come.

Summary: A great season from Ziane who is now our first choice left back without any question. Summary: He improved a fair bit this season and half-way through the season I decided that he'd done well enough to earn a spot as one of my first choice CM's. Summary: He's now been "demoted" as it were to 4th choice striker with the arrival of Vincent Jardin, but as a result of injuries Tagoe got some game time again this season and tbf to him he did pretty well getting 2 goals and 2 assists in just 2 starts and limited sub time. I don't see him making it at the club especially with the arrival of Jardin but he's got a decent record for us.

Summary: I don't like giving first team football to young players at CB or GK but Vincent played the odd game here and there when our first choice defenders were injured. He definitely has potential to kick on and be part of our first team but again as I said, i'm not massively keen on throwing inexperienced players in at CB until they're ready.

Summary: Still hasn't properly kicked on and he has no chance of dispossessing N'Gadi as first choice CAM. He missed out on more games through injuries, with 2 of his 3 starts coming in Cup games against lower league sides. He also kicked up a fuss about his lack of first team opportunities which I found pretty irritating considering he's not good enough to be first choice, he may well leave at the end of next season as that's when his contract runs out, perhaps Ligue 2 football will make him change his mind, but if he wasn't good enough to start in the National, he's definitely not going to be good enough for Ligue 2 games. Not looking good for him really.

Summary: Got an unprecedented amount of starts this season, thought not at his preferred CB position. I did play him at CB in the 2 cup games against the crapper teams, but his run in the first team came at RB as a result of our first choice RB picking up a long term injury and the fact we had no other senior RB to come in and fill in, I retrained Vincent to be a RB as he was our next best defender and he did well enough. He's got potential to be first choice CB if he gets enough first team experience, but I don't really want to be giving an inexperienced CB games in Ligue 2 if he's out of his depth. Hopefully a National side will take him on loan.

Good squad player if he's happy to be that though.

A decent debut season for our brightest academy prospect. I threw him into the deep and he immediately swam, even contributing to three goals along the way. His report shows he is consistent and relishes big matches, and this shows on the pitch as he seemed to always perform decently at worst. His potential has gone up to good for the Superleague, and his attributes rose nicely with the amount of playing time he got.

Summary: I gave the technically gifted young CAM a couple of starts in our cup games against lower league sides, during which he scored and became our youngest ever goalscorer in the process. Definitely has the potential to make it at the club one day, with Sami Denis potentially leaving his rise to the first team could come quicker than expected.

Due to the confusion/kerfuffle caused by the recent screenshot bug/issue a lot of screenshots I thought I "had" I actually don't have. So the update isn't as concise and as in-depth as I usually like to do but hopefully by the next one its either fixed or as i'm aware of it I can make sure I get the shots I want.

Very saddening to see him leaving especially after he made the step up to Ligue 2 so comfortably, but a 17 year old scoring 25 goals in a season is always going to attract some attention and despite dismissing interest from Ligue 1 FC Nantes, when Olympiakos showed interest it was the Champions League that understandably turned Jardin's head and with his contract expiring in the summer it seemed to make sense to sell him and make £1.1M which will potentially rise to £2.1M after appearances and goals, rather then risking him becoming unhappy and leaving for nothing in the summer. I also managed to put in a 50 percent of next transfer fee in there, so if all goes well and he becomes a success story at Olympiakos and they sell him on then we can profit even more from the deal.

Lillian Gauthier was used sparingly as back up for DM and CM, he started in a French Cup game against one of the lower league sides and actually scored. Jorge Pereira the center back and Gauther's back-up Louis Lavie also featured in that game.

Alumni

Vincent Jardin hasn't played a single competitive game for Olympiakos, absolutely criminal from them to waste him like that, haven't even loaned the guy out to anyone else. Be interesting to see what happens if they don't play him again or loan him out next season, will be keeping tabs.
Sami Denis is still a free agent and will most likely retire shortly as a result of not picking up any interest from other clubs

Summary: Wasn't good enough to warrant inclusion in any games, even in the cups. I'd be amazed if he made it now, not really improved physically from when he was 14, 2 strength is just awful even for a 5ft 2 and 9 stone guy. Needs to hit the gym.

Others

Emergency back up utility midfielder Yanis Bats got a start in the French Cup and then a start and a sub game in the league, he actually scored and got MOTM in 1 start and iirc he scored the winner. Took him off the actual updates a while back as expected him to want to leave when there was no first team football on offer but if he's happy to stay as a pretty cheap back-up player i'll probably keep him around.
21 year old DM Jonathan Lebrun started 2 games in the league when we were desperate and he was painfully average.
21 year old DLC/DM Maxime Huguet also saw 1 start in the league when we had an injury crisis, wasn't great really although he does appear to have a pretty sweet lip piercing.
I'm not really sure why Mamadou Diouf is still content to stay at the club, he's 23 now and has barely played any first team football in his tenure. I suppose the 600p/w wages for being nothing more than a back-up bench player might be why, but still seems odd that he hasn't requested first team football at all. Got 8 sub appearances when I was looking to close games out and make defensive subs.
Lillian Gauthier an 18 year old DM prospect saw 1 sub game in the league and 1 in the Cup, he scored in the Cup which might also have been a winner iirc.

Alumni

Vincent Jardin started 4 times for Olympiakos and got 2 sub games, getting just an assist. Had an average rating of 7.22 though which is pretty decent, I think they might be playing him at AML or CAM. Disappointing that he's still not getting the first team football he needs to develop especially when we're crying out for a striker as consistent and good as him at this level.
Sami Denis did actually manage to find a club, Genets Anglet of the CFA C. By the looks of it he is a regular starter for them which is nice to see, though it looks like he's been pretty crap really judging by his stats and average rating

Summary: His versatility saw him feature a bit this season, primarily at RB. I don't see a long term future for him here as anything apart from rotation/back-up, i'm happy to keep him as a utility player if he's happy to not play that often.

Lillian Gauthier saw 2 starts in the cup and 1 sub appearance in the league, not sure if he'll make it even as a back-up player, he's at that kind of age where he'll want to start playing regularly and unless I can sort a loan out he wont be.
Mamadou Diouf is somehow still here, 2 more appearances for him this season but he will finally be off on a free transfer in the summer.
Yanis Bats continued to be an emergency back-up/utility man, making just 1 sub appearance all season.
Armel Kabasele saw a start in the cup, he's replaced Bastian Bonnell as the most promising CAM in the Academy, still not thaaat great though.

Vincent Jardin played 10 times for Olympiakos this season, scoring twice and getting 4 assists. They then listed him for loan in January and despite my interest he went to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux instead, who only gave him 3 games ffs. Who knows what will be in store for Jardin next year, will Olympiakos finally start using him regularly? Another Ligue 1 loan? Maybe a return to Pau finally?

Alright so I'm doing a youth only game at Everton so I figured I might as well track the youngsters that come through. First up is a young goalkeeper called Jamie Crook, looks good in most areas bar first touch and command of area, plus he's 6"3' at the age of 16 so he could be mightily tall by the time he hits 19/20. Slightly dull start to the project for me though given there are significantly fewer opportunities for me to test a 16yo goalkeeper than a 16yo player in... well, every other position... Will be good to know I won't have to rely on Robles for the next decade though.

Patrick Yidikes spent the season on loan at Creteil of the French National. He did alright. He'll need another loan next season to progress more - i'm hoping a Ligue 2 side might take him this time but may well be in the National again. It will probably be 2-3 seasons more on loan before he has a chance of making it depending on how he develops.

Summary: After some decent loan spells at Ligue 2 clubs he got a chance this season whilst on the fringes of the first team due to injuries to our other CAM's and the fact that no Ligue 2 sides wanted to take him. This worked to his favour as he was relatively impressive in the games he did play and became a regular fixture on the bench despite not actually coming on all that many times. He already has 4 caps for Congo.

Others

Seephephe Masuoalle who at 18 is already a full international for Lesotho got 1 start and 4 sub appearances this season when we had a few injuries to our strikers. He's pretty average and will never really be anything more than an average Ligue 2 player.
Mallory Parra got 3 sub appearances. I'd be surprise if he made it.
Lillian Gauthier got 2 sub appearances in the cup, he did get an assist in one of those games but he's very unhappy about not having first team football and will leave soon hopefully.
Eric Kone and Armel Kabasele also got 1 sub appearance each between them, they have more of a chance of making it than Parra does but both are still quite unlikely to make it

Summary: Got some more game time although almost all of it from the bench. Would have been nice to give him some starts in cups and garbage Europe games but didn't really have any. He's definitely got potential to at least be at the kind of rotation level Aichour is at but depends whether he's happy to patiently wait to be a part of the team if he develops.

Others

As a result of a lack of garbage games in cups and Europe this season no players from the youth sides got any minutes. Gerard Vincent has been removed from the regular updates as he wont make it anyway so seems pointless keeping him in. Sent a couple of defenders out on loan to Ligue 2 Creteil and they did alright - not conclusive enough to see whether they'll make it here yet tho.

Alright so I'm doing a youth only game at Everton so I figured I might as well track the youngsters that come through. First up is a young goalkeeper called Jamie Crook, looks good in most areas bar first touch and command of area, plus he's 6"3' at the age of 16 so he could be mightily tall by the time he hits 19/20. Slightly dull start to the project for me though given there are significantly fewer opportunities for me to test a 16yo goalkeeper than a 16yo player in... well, every other position... Will be good to know I won't have to rely on Robles for the next decade though.

Summary: Obviously he's the big success story so far, got a chance to play a few games in his first full season when Robles and Howard were both injured for a few weeks then went out and had a solid few months in League One with Blackpool getting plenty of game time but playing poorly. Then this season I decided it was time to push him in the first team because he looked ready attributes wise to at least rival Howard and it's gone from there, very impressive improvement no doubt helped by being tutored by Howard. Looks to have bags of potential too so could possibly be a major star in a couple of years. Only concern is his One on Ones rating.

Summary: Solid improvement over the year, I'm expecting Distin to retire and Anthony Gerrard to leave in the summer so I'm tempted to have him in the first team next season and give him a few games here and there but he's obviously still got a way to go. If he can get his strength and anticipation up a little he could do a decent job though, hopefully gain a couple of inches in height too.

Summary: Been on the verge of breaking into the first team since early last season, we were looking quite weak at RB with my current RB's under-performing, took a bit of a risk in promoting him instead of getting someone new in but he has 3 star potential apparently so it could be a good decision. He wasn't amazing but he's young and still got a lot to learn and develop yet.

Others

Gregory Leroux is Da Costa's opposite really, has similar potential but is a left-back. Unfortunately for him my left back is super fit all of the time so there wasn't much cause for Leroux to play other than cup games and rare times when first choice was unfit. He has the potential to be first choice at LB but my current LB is 24 and I have no real need to demote him as he's pretty good. Jeremy Jacob is another guy who could make it he's a CB who can also play RB, he's got at least 2 and a half star potential maybe 3 but it's that black thing where you don't know if he is that good or not. He was essentially our 3rd choice CB this season so it's a testament to how fit my 2 starting CB's stayed that he only got 6 starts all year with some of them being against weak sides in the cup. Francois Lambert got a start in a cup game when I was desperate and he did score tbf to him but he's only got 2 and half star potential and his attributes especially finishing and composure are horrendous for a striker - is only 15 though. Mathis Leroy and Gael Geurin both got a sub appearance each in the cup, they're both CM/CAM's who have 2 and a half star potential but i'd be surprised if either of them made it, with Leroy being more likely.

Gregory Leroux got 17 starts at LB or RB throughout the season. Not given him his own little history yet as undecided whether he will be a long term option or not.
Jeremy Jacob got 26 games varying at RB or CB. Still unsure if he'll be a long term option at CB. Getting a load of games at the moment as I can't afford to get in someone with real quality.
Francois Lambert got a few more games up-front and got another goal but he's garbage and shouldn't be anywhere near the team really
Maxime Cerqueira was given his debut as a sub in a cup game - became the youngest ever player to play for the club at 14 and a bit. Got the potential to be really really good.

Summary: Progressing well but still a little too short, Distin will finally be retiring at the end of the season and at this point I think Gordon will be ready for a rotational spot on the team, and considering his main competition is Shane Duffy and Tyias Browning he's not exactly going up against titans of the game.

Summary: Frustrating, third time I've sent him out on loan to be a first teamer and he's barely played for the team loaning him. On the plus side he's developing gradually in to being able to play as a striker which will be handy given the fact I've converted to a wingerless formation.
