Players of the Season

Paul "Pele" Wallace - Well, what can I say about this guy. Broken the 1,000 barrier, and at 37 years old, still scored 50+ goals in a season. Incredible

Paul Dalton - Really proved himself this year. Was only a back up player previous, but stepped into the AMC role like a dream. A fantastic return of goals, and a truly great prospect.

Frank de Haan - Even from Left Midfield, he still scored 30+ goals this season. One of the few players that hasn't gotten upset when I decline bids for him, and even signed a new contract. A great servant thus far.

Season Summary

A great season. I'm really happy with how it went for Wallace. and... FINALLY got the 30 games, 30 wins in a season. icon14.gif - Signed a group of young Czech players, all with massive potential that should hopefully help me advance in the CL.!

Just something to end with.....

Board Confidence - This has been a problem since I began playing in the "All Ireland Cup". I don't know why I've not reported it, I really should have, as it could have easily been fixed for 8.0.2. In the "All Ireland Cup Expectations / Current Performance" section, it read... "The board recognize that you haven't been in charge for all the games in this competition and feel it would be unfair to pass comment on your performance" - even though, I do take charge of all the games icon_confused.gif

Liverpool – Meldert (Champions League Final) (second half part 2)

We start with a few poor passes after the post-equalizer kick-off. Come on, lads, recover quickly!

63’ – Another fierce Liverpool long shot (Moret) that has my heart skipping a beat when I see it get launched, but luckily it goes over.

68’ – our first time near the Liverpool goalie in twenty minutes or so. The shot gets blocked and cleared, so no real danger though.

We really need to break through their defense more often. I take off one of my strikers (Fofana), who didn’t manage a single shot at goal, and replace him with Galante, my Italian striker who headed us into the Final in injury time against Man Utd.

73’ – Alarçon picks up a great long pass on the right, crosses into the box, Galante heads wide. Alright, that’s what I wanna see more of! Just get it between the posts next time!

74’ – Alarçcon intercepts a pass and skips behind the defense, goes clear at goal… saved! A race to reach the rebound first… defender juuust makes it. Damn.

83’ – Alarçon again in the clear after a marvelous long ball… Saved again! But he gets the rebound this time… wide! Aargh.

86’ – We manage to stay on the Liverpool half and put some pressure, though can’t get that final pass right… It’s in the air though… come on, lads!

87’ – Galante from distance, well wide.

89’ – Uh oh, fast Liverpool attack, cross from the left… header Danielsson, deflected against the post and into corner kick. Yikes, too close!

89’ – 2-1. Aargh!! Danielsson’s second. He had way too much room to collect the ball from the corner kick, turn around, and shoot hard from close range. Keeper no chance.

We need another miracle now. And I think we already had a bit too much luck in this campaign for it to happen again in the few remaining minutes…

91’ – Our left winger with a last attempt from outside the area, but wide.

Full time: 2-1

Match stats

Damn… so close. Well, kinda. To be honest, Liverpool was the better team. But still… that damn missed penalty…

Meldert, Belgium - May 23rd 2029

Mid-season table.

End of season.

Another season of absolute domestic domination. Slightly disappointed that we failed to remain undefeated again for the entire season, but oh well. Our streak ended at 46, when I gave a bunch of reserves a chance against Charleroi, to rest some players for the matches against Man Utd. I also gave a young goalie his debut, which didn't turn out very well.

Belgian Cup:

We hadn't won the cup in a few years, and with our European adventure continuing right until the end, I really wasn't bothered about the Belgian Cup this year. But we easily progressed to the Final.

Despite facing league runners-up KV Mechelen in the Final, the match was three days before the Champions League Final, so I rested most of the first team players. We still managed to win it 3-1.

Euro recap:

For the first time, we actually had a chance at a treble, but it wasn't to be. We "did a iacovone" and lost against Liverpool in the Champions League Final.

The squad.

Nothing but praise for my squad, obviously. We had our best season ever, especially in Europe.

That was a bit of a surprise, to be honest. We sold four key players last summer, so I would have been pleased with a season of consolidation.

But somehow the team just clicked together very well. Especially up front we were quite strong. Our defense was our main weak spot - in Europe at least.

The star performers:

Inogo Alarcon: In lethal form this season, especially in Europe. He's been unhappy for several years now though, and this means that I have to rotate him a bit more than I'd like, because it affects his morale a lot. I'm considering selling him this summer, but I'll probably make him stay for one more year. HAve to remember they're not real people, just blobs on a screen. He's not really unhappy, it's alright to keep him another year. icon_smile.gif

Donato Galante: This year's revelation. Donate has been at the club since he was 17, which conveniently makes him a "homegrown" player for CL matches. He already was a useful third striker last year, and that was supposed to be his role again this year, but he started the season so well that he became first choice.

Vincent Fofana: This one was supposed to be first choice, but didn't quite break through. My most expensive signing ever at 4.9M€. Which is probably more than he's worth, but it was a semi-panic buy. He needed several matches before he finally found the net, but did get up to speed in the second half of the season.

Peter Slot: My team captain. His season was just... wow. Admittedly, slightly aided by the 8.0.2 patch, since his long shots were clearly more efficient than previous seasons, which counts for at least half of his goals.

Peter got the Champions League Best Player award.

Sami Carlier: With the main rival for his position leaving last summer, Carlier made the step up to clear first choice, and showed he could handle it. Unfortunately for his he missed the final stages of the season because of injury.

Pedro Munoz: I signed two new right wingers last summer, and Pedro was the second choice - the one for the future. It became quickly clear that he could rival for a first team spot though, and when the other right winger got a long injury in December, Pedro took over and cemented his place. Unfortunately he was called up to the Gold Cup and missed the Final against Liverpool.

Felipe Yanguas: I have plenty of rotation options on the left wing, and sometimes have to use them to make the Belgians-quota, but if possible, this is my first choice left winger. Still young and learning, his best years are yet to come.

Basaran Ahmet: Right back with a killer cross, good for a fair amount of assists. Was second choice for a few years, but with the other right back sold last summer, I knew Ahmet would be able to step up just fine. He wants to leave though, but I'll make him stay for at least another season.

Pascal Slechten: One of the DCs. His second season at the club, and he did well enough, but not quite Champions League Final level. His pace is dropping as well, so I'm hoping to find a good replacement this summer and move Pascal to the bench.

Alright, that'll do. icon_smile.gif

We now have a 51.914 stadium (increased by 10k this season), and for the first time we top the league in average attendance. This made are already healthy finances rise nicely every month, and with the great season in Europe and player sales last summer, we made a huge profit this season.

That gives me plenty of scope to continue our growth. I'm now at the stage where I'm starting to feel comfortable enough to start spending some money on players. Hopefully the good performance in the Champ League will give me the chance to attract a few top players. A DC, and possibly a GK, are top of my wish-list.

Team

Well that's the end of of my short stay in the top division. The club was still semi pro so we couldn't attract any decent players to improve the team which left us stuck in the relegation zone for the whole season.

The board aren't too happy about being relegated and looking at the confidence summary it seems like the finances and fans are the only things stopping me from getting sacked. I notice my job security has gone from being very secure to insecure as well.

Anyway, some better news, we hit the 5 million mark and turned pro and can now scout central europe. The board also linked us with Bordeaux as a feeder club.

Knockbreda 4 - 0 Stabaek - A fantastic result.! I win on away goals, and I couldn't be happier. only 1-0 at Half-Time, and I was still under the impression it was curtains. A Paul Wallace brace, and then an 88th minute clincher from Michael Taylor proved me wrong. icon_smile.gif

Knockbreda v JUVENTUS

I am doomed, surely. Home leg was first, and what happened, was pure magic.

Knockbreda 4 - 2 Juventus

By far my biggest ever result in 21 years of managing Knockbreda.

Just hope those late away goals don't come back to haunt me.!

After deciding not to play that game until this morning, I'm now going to start the second leg. (Was really into some of the topics on OTF last night, the time just flew by.!)

I think I'm going to give this another crack guys. I'm going to start in Wales, I just like having a squad of players who's names I can all pronounce, makes it a lot easier, even if I'm unlikely to succeed. First season I'll be looking to simply survive, all I have to do as a requirement is to post a screenshot of my profile right?

Cheers NepentheZ.

Just reading through a few of the last few pages of the thread while the game loads to see how people are doing, and I have to take my hat off to you and Paul Wallace! I can't quite believe he reached 1k, but a very well done. I suppose you're getting a bit sick of hearing that now though? icon_smile.gif

With the 8.0.2 patch updated I decided it was finally time to get stuck in here. I chose my second home of Turkey and as a club went with Batman Petrolspor just for the name icon_biggrin.gif

It was tought to get players but starting to turn around as I trawled through the free transfer list and made hundreds of loan offers. Then, I got to September 1st and........ all of my players were ineligible icon_mad.gificon_mad.gificon_mad.gif the registration bug still isn't fixed despite SI claiming it was icon_frown.gif

Well, that was a waste of an afternoon.... Any recommendations for a bug-free place to start would be appreciated icon14.gif

Okay, I had the choice of two clubs to take over: Dinas Powys or Maesteg. Dinas actually had some players, were predicted 17th and were based in Cardiff, so maybe getting Cardiff City as a parent club would have been possible.

I decided against it and went for Maesteg, more of a challenge as they were predicted last, had a nicer kit (plain blue >>> red and black stripes) and more importantly: an easier name, a youth academy, a bigger stadium (2k is a nice round number) AND 10k more in the bag.

Our only players are a few players in their 30s who all plan to retire at the end of the season. Their playing stats are awful, but OH MY GOD their staff stats! Gareth Darkes has a 18 in Attacking and Mental! I've bravely opted to say that I will avoid relegation for a wage budget of 3.3k. That's the plan, stay out of trouble this season, and if things go perfect then maybe a top half finish next year. Frankly though, I have no idea what the quality of the league or of the players I'll be able to attract will be like.

Automatic was the only past experience option that came up, so I went for it, even though Sunday League is in the first post, I couldn't see it.

Profile: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=ws8q6r&s=3

Right! The oldies are being offered new contracts as just coaches, and I'm off on the player trawl to buy myself a new team and staff! Wish me luck guys, hopefully I'll be sticking around this thread for a while.

Pretty dire start here. My "amazing" coaches are only interested in becoming Physios for some reason, despite both having 1s in Physiotherapy. I'm happy with the backroom staff I've managed to acquire, with a decent enough ass man and 3 star training across the board except for Goalkeeper training, as there is no unemployed staff in the world with a coaching goalkeepers attribute above 4 willing to come to me. Ridiculous. I haven't found any players, apart from a full back who's a decent signing, with one star now and potentially 3 stars. I'm waiting for July to start now, as lots of contracts will run out, so hopefully I can pick up some players, or this could be my worst season in the history of playing this game. Currently, we'll be lucky to pick up a point.

Dinas Powys are the only team to play in the Welsh leagues. All the rest are carp.

Chmel Blasny - Czech Republic

I have finally entered the challenge and I opted for (a hopefully bug-free) Czech Republic.

After reloading a couple of times to avoid 'B' teams getting promoted, I took the chance to take the helm at Chmel Blasny.

My profile

There were a few players in the squad to start with but no staff, goalies of left-sided players. I've got some headhunting to do! Managed to get Sparta Prague as a parent team and I have half of their B team on loan already icon_biggrin.gif

The board want a top half finish and 'to be a major player in the second division' in two years. Hopefully, we'll be in the top flight by then.

Apparently, they have had a go at this challenge in real life before having reached 6th in the 1st division a few years back despite being a village team. They have since dropped down the divisions but I aim to take them back to and beyond former glories icon_smile.gif

Amur Blagoveschensk - Russian Premier Division 2015 - End of Season

League table

Position graph

Disappointing really. After winning the league last season, we sold a couple of players and failed to adequately replace them. CSKA ran away with the title, and we never looked like challenging Spartak either.

Fortunately we scrambled upto 4th place on the final day of the season which was enough to satisfy the board. Apparently they think we challenged for the title icon_confused.gif

We also failed to retain the cup, losing to CSKA in the semi-final, but we did win the Russian Super Cup (their equivalent of the Community Shield) at the start of the season.

Europe was fairly unsuccessful, losing to Everton and then Bayern Munich in the CL and UEFA Cup.

Finances are looking very nice, the mid-season sale of Robert Kajda for £4.6m has given us plenty of spending money.

A few screenshots...

Squad stats

Transfers

Most of the players bought over this season are very young, prospects for the future. The pick of the bunch are Matveev and Semenov who will hopefully go on to become important first-team players.

The board want us to 'challenge for the title' again next season, which I guess means a top 4 finish. This should be achievable, but I don't think we're in a position to take on CSKA again just yet.

They have since dropped down the divisions but I aim to take them back to and beyond former glories icon_smile.gif

good luck with Chmel - i had a brief go with them a couple of months ago. struggled to find a tactic to suit and got sacked. icon_frown.gif good league to play in though.

enjoy!

I have to say I'm finding it tough so far too. I think their past achievements irl mean their reputation is slightly higher than other newly-promoted teams meaning expectations are higher. I can't seem to sign many decent players - only two decent signings of note so far and I'm overly reliant on loans. If I get promoted, I'll be screwed!! I'll just have to play through the season and see what signings can be made at the end.

Did you also find out of contract players at Czech clubs can't be signed on a Bosman?

**Important Notice**

Since I don't know if the Gundo's challenge website is going to happen anymore (although still hopeful)? I'm making the following decisions in order to tidy up the challenge table somewhat. Apologies that it hasn't been posted for a while, the problems being that I thought the website was close and was sorter holding out for that and I've been pretty busy of late also.

The table will no longer carry each users coefficients for their club and nation for the time being, however still please in include them in your End of season report. I will look to include coefficients again maybe once you have won the Champions League.

What you need to do

As well as all the usual info you enter into your end of season report, you now need to include the amount of domestic titles you've won.

The idea of all the above is to tidy up the table some what as so many games have just been abandoned and thus they are pointless entries in the table. Hopefully the website will still happen in the near near future. icon14.gif

I'll post the new challenge table in a couple of weeks once the new data has been collected.

Thanks for your co-operation. icon_smile.gif

Just to verify, you mean the coefficient for the most recent season at World->Europe->Champions Cup->Coefficients->Club, as well ->Nation for the nation we're playing in...? Also, by domestic titles, do you mean the amount of times we've won the top division or just plain any title within the nation (cups, supercups, lower divisions...)?

Pardon me if this has been discussed before, I'm kinda new here. ^^;

Yes that's correct. I might add though to users; don't worry about the coefficients as in most part you club won't have a club one until you reach a certain level (European qualification I think).

Yes, I mean top tier League titles only. icon14.gif

Hope this helps. icon_smile.gif

What about a column for further in Europe, I mean we're competing in Europe for a long time before winning so something like Group stage or 2nd knockout or whatever for how far you've made it.

Not sure if that would be necessary tbh, trying to keep the table as simple as possible atleast for the time being. Updating the challenge table once there where significant numbers was very time consuming.

Season 2012/13 Review - Sirocco Works in the Northern Irish Premier League

After last season's league win I was hoping to repeat it and add a decent display in Europe.

League Table

League Positions Graph

Dominated the league again, just a shame I lost a game to Cliftonville of all teams.

CIS Insurance League Cup - lost 1-0 to Glenavon in the semis.

County Antrim Shield - lost 3-2 to Glentoran in the quarter finals.

Irish Cup - won, beating Glentoran 6-1 in the final.

Setanta Sports Cup - lost in the group stage.

Champions League - lost 3-2 to Valur in the 1st qualifying stage.

Squad

Transfers

Almost the same team as last year, with the additions of my first money transfer, a £9k left back from Linfield.

Star Player

Yet again, it's him, 76 goals in 85 games and he's still only 19.

Club Coefficient: 0.109

Nation Coefficient: 0.333

League Titles: 2

Coachflu icon_frown.gif Hard luck mate, all the best for next year though!

Nep That result must have hurt a bit icon13.gif

Gundo, i like what you doing with the table! I haven't played my Skjetten game for a while. I've decided to have a go at a bit of a career and see where it takes me. (Well to Holland for now, Eindhoven actually, not PSV just FC icon_wink.gif)

I won the Norwegian Premiership 4 times for your info!
