Season 34/35

I have decided to provide updates a season at a time rather than being broken up into 3 periods.

The end of our 16th season and our 15th league play-off win. We went on to complete the treble for the 13th time.

We qualified for the CL group stages comfortably and were drawn against Atleti, Arsenal and Feyenoord. We didnt gain anything other than 2 goals against Atleti and Arsenal but we beat Feyenoord twice and secured a Europe League knockout tie against Sturm Graz. We eased into the next round where we faced the mighty Juventus and arguably achieved the clubs greatest ever scalp by beating them 3-1 at home and drawing 1-1 away to progress. In typical FM style, we bowed in the next round against Atalanta.

A few stand out performances across the squad. Andi Elezi scored more than 40 goals for the 2nd successive season and there is some interest from other clubs for him. Majstorovic and Supe are excellent CB's and it will be another couple of months filled with offers for the pair. I have been very impressed with Da Silva who at 16 is/should develop into a beast and with Slavica approaching his final year, i may be tempted to part ways with our loyal Croat (as I also need to reduce some of the foreign players at the club). Savkovic has developed tremendously this season and is now classed as a Wonderkid. There have been offers aplenty for him and he is currently unhappy with not being allowed to move on but unless I receive a ridiculous amount of money, he wont be going anywhere.

Our latest youth intake wasnt the best, again, but there are a couple of players with some steady potential.

image.thumb.png.9c4161a5a359f289bd768676cd05b16f.png

Fredrik Nilsson has good attributes in all the right places and could be our Norwegian Adebayo.

image.thumb.png.d5492183a97396dfa4d987c8dbbdb1eb.png

Mazza looks like a decent right back

image.thumb.png.4ceb5eb30cbd1b7f4bd9049d95d51852.png

Im debating whether to go back to playing 4-1-4-1 because as much as I have enjoyed experimenting with 3 at the back, I find more comfort with a back 4. Its something I will have to give a bit of thought to.

In other news, our stadium capacity is being increased from 5500 to 8300

FM19 Save - 2028/29 Season - Part 2

It took me a little while to get back into the save - but I think I'm there now.  I feel more in control with my tactics than in FM20, and that was most evident in Serie A where my instructions were adhered to better in the ME (for me anyway).

San Marino Calcio

It was a really good first season in Serie A - finishing 10th and 15 points clear of relegation.  We had a dodgy run after the Winter break, but won 4 games in April to get over the line to safety.  Most pleasing was a team full of young players in the last 3 games - against good teams (Juve, Atalanta and Inter) we were able to draw all 3 games.  It will be a busy off-season as we try to get a more permanent squad - and £32 million in the bank should help on that front!

Youth Intake

A couple with some potential (both who were given 2 games at the end of the season), but overall not a great group.

San Giovanni

After dominating for most of the year, the two finals ended in penalty shootout losses - so the only silverware was the Super Cup.  In both finals, we dominated possession and shots - but we couldn't finish and were made to pay.  That's made me make some big decisions and bring in 3 new signings - a left back, central defender and striker - and let go some players who've been with us for a while.  We'll be in the Europa League, so we'll see how we go - we'll need luck with the draw to match making the group stage again.

Youth Intake

Lots of potential here - junior coaching is now excellent, youth recruitment well established - and basic training and below average youth facilities are both being upgraded.

San Marino Calcio 2023/24

Senior Squad

Competitions    Serie B    Squad

We started the season as favourites to go down, but after a great start, we were sat 2nd after 15 games and looked every inch promotion contenders. Then we forgot how to play and went 8 games without a win. Luckily our good start meant we were sat in 6th and only 6 points of top. We started to pick up points again and managed to seal a 5th consecutive promotion by finishing the season as runners up to Spal. We lost to Frosinone in the 3rd qualifying round of the Italian Cup.

Reserves

League Table    Squad

This was the reserves 3rd season at this level and having finished 5th twice, I was hopeful they could have a run at the title. They performed all season long and sealed a place in Serie D for their efforts. I can see them struggling to stay up next season though.

Youth Intake

Intake

Another poor intake.

Finances and Facilities

Finances    Facilities

Promotion to the top tier should do wonders for this side of the club. We have already managed to upgrade the youth facilitiesJunior Coaching Budget and Youth Recruitment Network. The aim now is simply to stay in Serie A for a few seasons and continue to build the club up and start developing some HG stars.

End of season two, out in the Preliminary qualifiers for the CL - Glenavon (0-1) then in the Europa League qualifiers to FCI Levadia (4-2 agg.) , but both provided a healthy boost to finances. Won 18, Drew 1, Lost 1 over both stages of the season, but comfortably won both 1st Phase and subsequently Group 1, can either see my tactic is being adapted to or teams are picking up better players on free signings as we weren't as good towards the end of this season. 3 players scored 20 goals across all competitions but not taking our chances certainly noticeable in our draw and defeat.

Scoured the other San Marino teams for any sign of talent (I love free transfers with no wages), and picked up a couple of Sammarinese international prospects on loan from Italy (Fabbri & Capicchioni).

The finance boost allowed some investment into club structure (Youth Facilities x2, Training Facilities x1, Youth Recruitment and Junior Coaching x2), hopeful the next financial boost will allow a further Training Facilities upgrade then possibly looking at turning Semi-Professional (not financially viable according to the board).

Couple of updates, including one I missed first time.

Have a player score a hat-trick in a game:

Get promoted from Nations League D:

International Appointment

Overview    Nations League

I have also decided to take the plunge with the national side. I sacked the current manager, applied and was installed as boss within the space of a week. We take over with the nation ranked 193rd in the world and still yet to win a game in a competitive qualifier. They have won a few games in the Nations League but remain in Division D. This autumn sees us compete in a 3 team group against Faroe Islands and Gibraltar.

First Season In. Started as just the San Marino C.C. boss in the Serie D/F.

Won the League at a canter.

No real top performers but a good all around team.

First youth intake was largely poor but what to expect in the depths of Italian football?

New achievement - win CL.

We did it boys!

We have an amazing squad and now everything went well!

Lost 2-0 to Man City in semi final - but won 2. match 2-0 and won on penalties.

Man United in the final - everything went good :D:D

These are the best players in the squad:

Result of this:

Now number 6 ranked league - 2 teams in group stage of CL and 1 in Playoff - 1 team in EL groupe stage - and one team ECL 3. qua - and 2. qua :D:D

But i have noticed that the other teams the last couple years don't produce very good intakes - they have good facilities, but somehow the last years were rough:(

Before the end of season two we had the small matter of the madness of European qualification, first game 22nd June, near 3 months before the start of the season. After failing to progress beyond the first preliminary round in our first venture onto European competition and the board expecting us to reach the first round of qualifying proper, the boys performed admirably.

First Preliminary Round

Second Preliminary Round

Suffice to say we did it in style in the preliminary rounds, on to the new season (officially) and the rest of qualification -

1094084269_SocietSportivaSanGiovanni_Fixtures.thumb.png.520121431e143ed248da247d8f970bf6.png

Not sure where we fall in the scheme of things but definitely feel we out-performed my expectations to reach the Europa Conference League Group stages, our reward trips to Nice, Plovdiv & Koprivnica.

 620155356_UEFAEuropaConferenceLeague_Stages.thumb.png.42ee3fb81ae52a6f1b86e4d4c2c31c7c.png

The £2.5m payday enabled an increase in training facilities (£750k), although they won't start construction until next off season, time to see if I can turn semi-professional in the meantime.

2nd Season Done. Serie C is a huge increase in quality, especially as a semi-pro team. 10th in first season is a good start. Professional status in the next season and upgrades to youth development and youth coaching. Progress!

Into the payoffs and got mildly FM'd in the first round against Ravenna. 7 ccs and 2 woodworks. Gutted.

Youth Intake was largely rubbish but for one gem who just about good enough for the first team. I'm hoping he can break into the first team and stay with me up to Serie A.

Nations League 2024

Results    League Table

Our first 4 games in charge of the national side have gone as good as anyone could ask for. I knew we stood a chance in this group but I didnt think we would win the group having not conceded a single goal. Promotion sealed, but I have a feeling we will be coming straight back down again.

San Marino Calcio 2034/25

Senior Side

Competitions    League Table    Squad

Our first season in Serie A has been a resounding success. Tipped as big favourites to go down, we started with a bang and hung around mid table for the whole season, eventually finishing 8th. We have a really good young team, and with a couple of solid additions in the summer, we could be challenging for Europe next season.

Reserves

League winners

They didnt quite match us, in the sense we went the season unbeaten but i am amazed they have managed to win the title at the first attempt. I keep saying it and they keep proving me wrong but, they should struggle next season in Serie C

Youth Intake

Youth Intake

I am really hoping S.I are saving up a ridiculous golden generation for me as we are yet to have a player with more than 2.5* potential in 6 intakes.

Finances and Facilities

Finances    Facilities

First season in the big league, and you can tell from the finances, £19m in the bank and that is only going to rise as I am going to be tight as can be with the wages and try to focus all the clubs money on upgrading the infrastructure of the club. We have our 2nd upgrades on the training and youth facilities due for completion this coming September, and I am constantly checking to ask for upgrades to everything else.

San Marino Calcio 2029/30 (FM19) - Part One

Our second season in Serie A got off to a poor start.  Injuries hit us hard, with 4 of our first XI out injured and we had one of those FM bad runs.  The fixture list didn't help us, playing many of the top teams one after the other.  We were shipping goals badly - but thankfully we tightened up in December and hauled ourselves out of the drop zone.  This might well be a close one - but hopefully we can stay up.  To help, we've signed a keeper from Iceland of all places - as ours despite having an OK average rating (6.92) seems to be at fault for many of the goals.

Youth facilities are now adequate; training facilities are average - with updates for both planned for the summer.  Youth recruitment is above average and junior coaching good.

San Giovanni

The European campaign wasn't as good this year.  We had a tough Europa League first qual round against 3* rep team Stjarnan of Iceland - and we lost the first leg 0-1.  We got a bit lucky in the second leg, as they had a man sent off after 32 minutes with the game still 0-0 - and so I went for it and was rewarded with 5 goals!  They got 2 late - but we were through.  The next round saw us up against Omonoia of Cyprus.  We were in with a shout with an away goal in the first leg - and at 1-2 very much so - but they got a late goal to make it 3-1.  We had a go in the second leg, but the game was effectively over when they scored early in the second half.  We got a goal right back, but that was that for Europe.

We're undefeated so far in the league - and in the cup semi final.  We lost the first leg of the first round to Cosmos, who are a good team, but beat them 2-0 at home in the second leg to go through.  Hopefully we can win the league this year to get into the Champions League qualifiers - I'm hoping to avoid penalties this season for sure!

Season 35/36

We qualified for the CL group stages for the 6th successive season and we were rewarded with a group consisting of Man Utd, Real Madrid and Club Brugge. The 2 games against Club Brugge were key if we were to finish 3rd. We beat them home and away but were on the receiving end of a couple of beatings away to United and Real; the home ties were a little more respectful.

We faced Lazio in the EL 1st KO round. In terms of chances and possession we were on top but couldnt convert any and succumbed to a 2-0 loss. In the return leg, we took the lead before we were helped by a 22nd minute red card for Lazio. We controlled the rest of the game and scored another 2 goals to set up a tie against Lorient. We took a 1-0 lead to France and scored an early goal in the away leg. They managed to equalise but we secured a successive QF tie in the EL. The quarters were again a bridge too far as we drew 2-2 at home and lost 2-1 away.

image.thumb.png.a44a48d93d8efb0cac82bd10e60377fd.png

I kept with the 3-1-4-2 formation for the majority of the season after debating whether to revert back to a flat back 4. Andi Elezi smashed the clubs record for goals in a season as he scored 58 in 49 appearances (previous record was 49). £875k for a player who has now scored 148 in 136 games! Ercolani rolled back the years with a quality season after he had spent 8 months injured between March 34 and April 35. 15 goals and 24 assists across the season for the San Giovanni legend who has now played a total of 531 games and scored 280. He is 31 now but whilst he is still producing, he will remain a part of my plans.

image.thumb.png.c67534633223b2b4a6ce56b93be6fa5c.png

Bojan Savkovic, better know as Sav, has handed in a transfer request as he wants to move to a bigger club. He is a tremendous looking player and I will only let him go for a high figure as he warrants it.

image.thumb.png.a5e98b644381e8ec4a140958c70d1516.png

Buying young players has started to provide its rewards from a playing and a financial level. I always had it in my mind that some of the players that I bring in will be moved on after a couple of seasons to generate a profit. Rodrigues and Fumaca are examples of this. Rodrigues was sold for around £11m profit and Fumaca for £10m. Our GK, Eduardo was home sick and skipped training a couple of times so I was forced in moving him on but still managed to make a slight profit on his departure. I had high hopes for Da Silva but he wasnt progressing as well as I thought and also moved him on to roughly break even.

7 new signings came in over the course of last season. Wilson is a Brazilian striker and on paper is better than Rodrigues. Munteanu is a CB from Romania who I have signed as I dont think I have too long with both Supe and Majstorovic. Battaglia has been signed as (hopefully) a replacement for Slavica who I may look to move on in the coming months. Peric is my number 1. I also signed 3 domestic players, all who have some sort of potential.

Over the last 3 seasons, we have spent almost £21m and sold players for a total of £111m; £60m of this was from the sale of Adebayo.

image.thumb.png.3f35da3885c5292e409737252b4a43c5.png

There are a couple of players to work with through the youth intake, in particularly CB Michele Andreini. He came in with 3.5 star potential and is now showing as 4.5 potential. He certainly has all the makings to be the best Sammarinese product since Biordi and Ercolani

image.thumb.png.49f23aaf24b95bdf76229535360eac7a.png

I will be providing a separate post for the NT European Championships adventure. I have just decided on the squad and will be playing our first warm up friendly shortly. Hopefully I will post this up later.

Stay Safe.

Season 6 Review

gQnQCQK.png

San Marino Calcio

Enjoying life in Serie A. We can improve the facilities, are earning money and are trying to build a team for the future. Improved the defense, had a few problems with the offense this season. Didn't score enough goals, so focus for next year will be this area, getting a few new players, making a few tactic adjustments.

tabelle.thumb.jpg.f2dbb397c923694edc38d7bb5d52d5ee.jpg

Youth intake was okay. No players who will improve my team, but a few who could improve the national team in the next few years and are willing to play for it (the 2 central defenders from last years still don't want to play).

San Marino National Team

Great season in the Nations League. 5 wins and 1 draw got us promoted to Nations League B.

44061342_tabellenati.thumb.jpg.64e7dfd1c95f1852da8f7c888b9abdcd.jpg

But still the problem that the team is getting smaller and smaller. The San Marinese teams are not producing decent players, some players are retiring at even a young age, because they can't find a club and the only solution is at the moment taking them on myself.

Season 7 Preview

With San Marino Calcio, the goal is to score more goals ;) Just staying up, improving a little bit.

With the national team in the World Cup Qualifiers I don't think we can achieve too much. Still having a problem finding a good tactic against strong teams.

European Championships 2036

In the Nations first ever major tournament, we were grouped with Italy (ranked 2nd in the world), which seemed quite fitting, Slovenia (39th) and Hungary (54th). Not the worst group to be fair.

Our first game was against Hungary and it was a relatively even match with both sides creating decent chances. Nicola Gennari's strike was the difference and made history for San Marino. In the other group game, Italy beat Slovenia 2-0.

image.thumb.png.938ce6605d31f2e025d49e0bb334cb93.png

Our next game was against Slovenia and I was confident of getting something from the game. In truth, we were poor and never got going although it is always tough to lose to a stoppage time goal. Italy seen off Hungary with a 2-0 win

image.thumb.png.0338cf388c774cd5f0b839cc1071a9c4.png

Despite the 3-0 loss against Italy, we gave a much better account of ourselves and missed 2 clear cut chances in the match.

image.thumb.png.aa6934e8c66a086e7eacfc6bb59dd78a.png

We finished 3rd in the group and qualify for the next round which is a massive achievement.

I went with a cautious, counter attacking 4-1-4-1 against Austria, who are currently ranked 9th in the world. Everything worked just as I wanted it to. We were solid at the back, the half back helped. The midfield worked their b******s off and we were clinical with the couple of chances that we had. Smash and Grab at its finest!

We have a quarter final against Spain to come...

I tried the same approach against Spain, but this time it didnt work for us. They completely dominated and it could have been more. Nevertheless, it has still been some achievement to have reached the QF of the Euro's.

We're now ranked joint 71st in the world.

San Marino World Cup 2026 Qualification.

Results    Group Standings

We finished bottom of the pile as expected but to get 3 points and the nations first win in a qualifier is a good start after our Nations League efforts last year. In the 2027 Nations League we are competing in Division C after our promotion, and have been drawn in a tough group alongside Israel (88), Latvia (145) and North Macedonia (73). With ourselves ranked 189th in the world, we are easily favourites to go down.

San Marino Calcio 2025/26

Senior Side

Competitions    League Table    Squad

We have had an excellent second season in Serie A. We started the season on fire and amazingly led the table after 22 games. I cant explain what happened next as we only managed 1 win from our next 8 games, before limping over the line and finishing in 6th. Still a massive over achievement and good progress after finishing in 8th last season. In the cup we lost at the QF stage. We have a major test coming next season, 3 players who we have had on loan for the past 3 seasons are signing with other sides and all 3 have been key men but wanted more than im willing to pay in wages.

Reserves

League Table

A first season in Serie C and it ended with a respectable 10th placed finish. This meant a play off spot but they exited in the 2nd round.

Youth Production

Youth Intake    Affiliates

Nothing amazing but this is clearly our best intake so far and Sanroman 26a is easily the best player who has come through the ranks as yet. Its just sods law that hes Belgian and thus ineligible for the national side. Still, this intake has given a little bit of hope that the improvements to our facilities are staring to bear fruit. We have also started to add some affiliates to the clubs portfolio, and have managed to get 2 so far. San Giovanni in San Marino and Kriens in Switzerland.

Finances and Facilities

Finances    Facilities

Another good year for the club and next seasons Europa League adventures should make us even more money. We are continuing to upgrade all aspects of the club and you can see from the facilities screenshot just how far we have come in our 2 seasons in Serie A. We also have a upgrade ongoing to the youth and training facilities and are also looking for a site for a new stadium. I have refrained from asking for a new stadium as yet as I think building one to early hinders any chance we have of a big stadium (20 year stadium rule). But the board have decided to build one and who am I to argue.

2029/2030 Season (FM19) - Part 2

San Marino Calcio

Finishing the first half of the season below where I wanted to be points wise, we won 4 of our first 5 games after the winter break - which was just as well as then we had several tough fixtures in a row.  We actually almost beat league winners Napoli - they scored a direct free kick with the last kick of the game.  After losing 3 in a row - we drew 5 in a row, which kept us away from any relegation battle and we were safe with 4 games to go.  I then gave some youngsters a chance.  This was a more permanent team - but in terms of points total, not as good.  We had just 1 loanee - a right back - and finding a good permanent player at that position is off-season priority number one.  With the number of goals shipped, I'll also have a look at replacing our 2019 youth intake star, central defender Riccardo Gatti, 30 appearences this year and just a 6.77 average rating...

Facilities continue to be upgraded - junior coaching is excellent, youth recruitment established - and training and youth facilities are being upgraded again.  We've just had a takeover - and their first decision was to expand San Marino Stadium to 8,317 seats at a cost of £3.3 million.  With £37 million in the bank, we can certainly afford that.

Youth Intake

This was a better intake - although the top player Luca Tosi is a 5'10" central defender with low determination - so he'll be moved to right back.  Francesco Righi got chances in the first team - and actually scored twice in our last day of the season 3-4 loss to Verona - and striker Alessandro Fabbri made his debut off the bench, missing an unmarked header from 5 yards with the last kick of the game...

569213445_SanMarinoYouthIntake2030.thumb.jpg.f654c3119e8d1cf2998a8a435a79386f.jpg

San Giovanni

We're back - with the double!  Our big off-season signing, striker Emiliano D'Onghia scored 23 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions with an 8.08 average rating!  He scored twice in both the San Marino League Playoff Final and the final of the San Marino Cup.  Teams started to shut up shop against us in the playoffs, so I made a tactical tweak to play wider and get early crosses in, which worked like a charm!

Facilities are actually ahead of San Marino due to better finances early in the save.  Junior coaching is now exceptional and youth recruitment extensive.  Youth facilities are adequate, training below average, but are both being upgraded.  Attendances have been better this season - and the Cup Final was a 5,500 sell out at San Marino Stadium, when we only usually manage 2-3,000 - so perhaps the league is starting to get a bit better.  £4.2 million is in the bank - no problem with wages and hard to spend the transfer budget when anyone worth decent money won't be interested in signing for us.

Another nice group with one ready to push for playing time right away, although we have 3 good right backs already.

3rd Season Done.

 20200331223705_1.thumb.jpg.2822c6d75bf64aefdda37c5ba0894e71.jpg

Some in-different form mid way through the season means we struggled to keep up with Cesena. Made it to round 2 of the payoffs and was mildly fm'd by Ternana (again!). Hit the woodwork 3 times and had plenty of clear cuts. Oh well. Go again. Push for top spot hopefully with some decent signings. Major issue right now is the tanked finances. Nearly 500k in the hole. Serie B money is a must.

Good season in Serie A. Was surprisingly close to our first European adventure.

tabelle.thumb.jpg.0edbe0235eb0cac09d65f3578db72a8c.jpg

The whole intake is not something to talk about, but this one striker could be a gem. Again the problem: doesn't want to play for San Marino, because he thinks he can make it into the Italian National Team.

Not so happy, got battered a lot: 0-7 and 0-7 against Portugal, 1-7 and 2-6 against Ireland. From the bigger teams we were only against Austria (1-2 and 0-2) in the game. Still, problems finding a tactic against this big teams (tried a lot of different things).

Season 8 Preview

Can we qualify for Europe with San Marino Calcio? Not sure, if we can improve every year (and we need the third year in a row a new goalkeeper, and they are really hard to find in my save)

With the national team I think we have no chance in Nations League B. Maybe getting one or two decent results.

San Marino Nations League 2027

Group Table    Results

I thought we would be relegated but getting two draws against Israel and taking four points from the games against Latvia meant we finished 3rd. Our ranking hasnt improved much as we sit 187th, but the players are getting better and we should start to see some movement over the next few years.

What a frustrating season. We just couldn't get going in the league and limped over the line in 11th. In the cup we got to the QF before losing to eventual winners Torino. This was the bitter sweet thing about this season, we was amazing in Europe. Our maiden campaign in the Europa League. We got through a tough group undefeated, before going on to beat giants Borussia Dortmund and Ajax along the way to the final, where we were mauled by Arsenal. It was still a great run and made the season bearable with our league form. No Europe for us next season though sadly.

Still improving everything with more facilities improvements due to finish this October. Not sure I can improve the youth recruitment and junior coaching any further. Senior Team

Squad    League Table  Competitions

After last years domestic struggles it was nice to get off to a good start. We never challenged for the title like a couple years ago, and a poor run in January meant come the run in, the top four was our best shot. A brilliant final 8 games saw us almost get there, ending the season in 5th. This is is still our best finish and gives us another European adventure next season so no complaints from me. In the cup Juventus knocked us out in the 1st round

Reserves

League Table

A solid season from our reserves and they actually led the table for 32 games but just couldnt see it through. In the play offs they lost in the final on penalties. This is not the worst thing in the world, alot of our HG players are now at decent serie C level and now iwe can really start to develop them. Alot of the national side play for our reserves as do our promising young signings from abroad, and this will continue to be the case although I would like a Sanmarrinesse only side eventually.

Youth Production

Under 20's    Under 20's    Youth Intake

I have made it a priority to continuously update this side of the club, from facilities to staff and this work is paying off. We are yet to develop anyone into a real first team player at club level, but are starting to see some real progress in our youth sides. The U18s won a double and the U20s sealed promotion top Division 1 for the first time.  Dont get me wrong, we dont appear to have any "stars" in the making at the club, but we do have a number of youngsters deemed with 3 star potential which atm is classed as a decent serie A player, if we had 11 decent serie A players in the national side, that would be a huge improvement to now.

Finances and Facilities

Finances    Facilities    Stadium Plans

We keep on growing and have finally announced our new stadium. I had been considered a club legend for a couple seasons now and was really hoping they might name the stadium after me but it wasnt to be. Still it is almost triple the size of our current stadium and should see us progress financially a little bit more.

A major part of our success was a loan signing from Empoli. Broke all the goalscoring records in Serie C and I am hoping to get him back next season. Fingers Crossed. We also signed Andrea Consigli as Gk'ing coach and Goalkeeper. Makes all the difference having a true leader and great goalkeeper at a lower level.

 20200405003219_1.thumb.jpg.d40d067e96e0a33ca387d7f5f66a6397.jpg20200405003342_1.thumb.jpg.45990143f313f5c32db7ecf54567b2a4.jpg

Youth intake this season was poor but with us moving on up in Italy hoping for better in future. Serie B will mostly likely require an entire overhaul of the squad in order to stay up. We shall see.

San Marino Calcio

Mediocre season for a long time, always win, defeat, win, defeat,... (only 2 draws the whole season), but at the end with a lot of luck we made it to the 7th place again – and this year that help us to get into Europe...

tabelle.thumb.jpg.03f3bd0ced46c38f4f8fbda2032343d3.jpg

Crap intake this year (expected that already after a preview without one positive information), but at least they are all San Marinese and want to play for the national team. So they can improve this team if I can find clubs for them in a few years. But my club team will be out of San Marinese players in a short time (the last two are fading out and didn't get game time this season, the promising youngsters from the last years are all playing for Italy' youth teams now).

Season 9 Preview

How do we handle European football at San Marino Calcio? Will be interesting since most of the money is still going in the facilities and in our new stadium which opened last year, I am operating with not that big of a squad. Around 20 Million Euros I can invest in the team (because we received our biggest transfer fee yet in the winter) which is much needed because we are losing with Gabriele Perrotta our best player.

The national team will use the European Qualifiers for more tactic testing. I need to find more options here.

San Marino 2028 Nations League

League Table    Results

You can see from the results in the friendlies that we are starting to progress now. Our performance in the Nations League was as expected, minus the brilliant 6-0 win in the final game.  This still was not enough for us to avoid finishing bottom and that meant a Relegation Play Off which we lost. A return to Division D is not the worst thing for us and i expect to bounce straight back up.

Our Under 21's performed miracles in their EURO Qualifiers, and were close to qualifying in a very strong group.

San Marino Calcio 2028/29

Senior Team

League Table    Competitions    Squad

Its been our best season yet and with it we have managed to seal Champions League football for next season bu finishing 2nd. Fiorentina have managed to break the two club dominance Juventus and Inter have held on the league since 2011. We finished a massive 12 points behind them. Simone Cassano deserves a mention this year. He was by our best performer and also bagged the European golden boy award. In the cup we lost to Lazio in the QF. This season saw us take our 2nd venture into Europe in the Europa League. A solid showing in the group stage meant we topped our group and earned a tie against Olympiakos, we beat them easily before meeting Fiorentina in the QF, they dispatched us and sent us home.

Reserves

League Table

Its been another impressive year for the reserves and one that has pleased me more than any of their previous showings, this is mainly because the squad now only has 4 players who are not eligible for the national side, and they still managed to finish runners up, a win on the last day would have seen them crowned champions. In the play offs  they lost in the QF to Cesena. Serie B would be step too far for many of the players in this side right now anyway.

Youth Production

Youth Intake

And we finally have our first real potential superstar. Andrea Protti 29a is by far the best player we have produced yet. A good personality, fantastic starting stats but he has one major flaw, he wants to play for Italy. The rest of the intake is not amazing but there are a few we can work with who will hopefully benefit the national side at some point.

Finances and Facilities

Finances    Facilities

Another upgrade to the training and youth facilities completed in October with another one ongoing to both. This should see us up there with some of the best facilities on the game. We are due to move into a new stadium this summer and although it only has 15k capacity, I am hoping we can start to upgrade this in the not too distant future. Champions League football next season will see us take a decent rise in earnings but we are super comfortable in this area anyway.

2030/2031 Season (FM19) - Part 1

San Marino Calcio

The off-season saw us make two signings.  I mentioned we badly needed a right back - and after much scouting and two failed offers (one for a top player - but they wanted £27 million for him and I wouldn't pay it), we were able to sign Daniele Di Mambro from Roma for £5 million.  He's been an excellent signing, with an average rating of 7.26 - and has won U19 Serie A Player of the Month twice!  We also signed a central defender, Danish U21 international Tommy Holmstrom - and he was solid at 7.03 until he broke his leg.

This gave us a starting XI I was really happy with.  We started the season very well - even leading the table after 8 games.  The early fixture list was pretty kind to us, so I always knew we wouldn't stay top.  However, after a run where we lost 3 out of 4 in the league (we were winning 1-0 away to Juve, but gave up goals in the 88th and 91st minutes, so lost), we then won 3 out of 4.  After avoiding injuries early, we had 2 fairly bad ones (Holmstrom above, and also our right winger) and our star striker Muggeri out a couple of times with minor injuries - and that hurt us as out backups are poor.  When I've rotated, we've lost, but I try to do so to keep the injuries down.

At the half way stage, we are 5th, so in the European places - but I'm not sure our squad is good enough to cope with Europe.  I guess I'll keep trying to qualify and if that happens, hope we get a strong 2031 youth class to help - and then sign young players with potential and use them.  The other issue might be holding onto our best player - hopefully we won't get any bids in the winter window...

Training facilities are now good; youth facilities average (with further updates already approved by the Board), data analysis facilities excellent, exceptional junior coaching and well established youth recruitment.  The stadium is being expanded to 8,317, which will be ready in March - we're currently playing at Cesena's ground, but crowds aren't good, even against the top teams.

San Giovanni

The key at this stage of the save is to win the San Marino League, which then gets me into the Champions League qualifiers.  We got an easy draw against the Maltese champs, stuffing them 8-0 in the first leg and rotating for leg 2.  We then drew a better team in Slovenian champs Olimpija, a 3* rep team.  I was very pleased with how well we played in both legs - able to win 1-0 away in leg one and then 2-0 at home - so comfortable.  We then drew Ajax - and although we lost 5-0 over the two legs, we actually played pretty well at times.  That saw us dropped into the 4th and final qualifying round of the Europa League, where we drew FH of Iceland (the club from where San Marino Calcio signed their keeper oddly).  I was very pleased to get a penalty early for an away goal - and it wasn't until the 70th minute they equalised.  However, we made a late sub - and 2027 youth product Gabriele Cecchetti scored in the 88th minute for a valuable 2nd away goal. FH didn't stop though - and they equalised almost right away.  At 2-2 with 2 away goals, all we had to do was draw 0-0 or 1-1, or of course win.  We made a good start to calm nerves, going ahead on 2 minutes - but again they hit right back with a goal on 4 minutes (determination is high with their players).  Thankfully, we got a 2nd on 21 minutes - and then killed the game.  That saw us through to the Europa League group stages for the second time in 3 years!  Unfortunately we got a very tough group - Saint-Etienne, Zenit and Fiorentina - and we lost all 6 matches.  It was a case of taking the beating and counting the money while doing so!

The struggles in the Europa League group stage impacted our league form a little, as we lost twice in the Group A phase - but still qualified for Group 1.  With that out of the way, we started playing much, much better and won 6-0, 4-0 and 4-0 - the latter a first leg San Marino Cup quarter final win.  It's now a case of going all out to win the league and trying to get nice draws in Europe next year.

Facilities wise - training are now adequate, youth average (with further updates ongoing), data analysis good, exceptional junior coaching and extensive youth recruitment.
