Like, no matter who I sign at level 10 or below, I just steamroll the entire league. Is that a limitation of the database? Or am I just too good at finding amateur players? Hate to burst your bubble, but it's pretty much impossible NOT to succeed at the lowest levels! As you say, the FM database is really designed to go only to National League N/S level - that's as far as SI test it. It's reasonably balanced down to maybe Level 9/10, but not further. Between Levels c.12-20 you've got the lowest CA/PA sorts. The only real dividing line is between amateur and semi-pro. This means that for many seasons the quality of the players you have and the opposition you face is the same. But you have two unfeasible advantages: 1. The quality of the AI is way inferior to your limited (?) intelligence. This includes selecting staff and the acquisition/disposal of players, but most especially - 2. Tactics. Even the most tactically clueless player will be far far better than the AI. You will continually tweak your formation, tactics, starting line-up until you hit a sweet spot. It might take a few weeks or months, or even a season, but sooner or later you will find yourself exceeding the capabilities of the other teams in your league. And when you get promotion, your team - already gelled and fine-tuned, will dominate the higher level of opposition who are actually not higher level at all but just the same. So it really is far far too easy. For that reason, I used to set myself limitations - in particular never bringing in a player from outside but solely promoting from my youth intake. I'd also go into the editor before firing up a new save and doctoring my team to have players aged up to 16, or max PA 10 or something like that. As such I had many years of fun bobbling about the lowest leagues, spending a year never getting higher than Level 10. Easy success isn't always fun but there are many ways you can set your own challenge and make it what you want it to be. 2 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

The current season would be 2019/20 which the board wants you to get promoted from Division Eight (to Division Seven) by winning the league. Then, for the next season, 2020/21, they want you to get promoted again from Division Seven to Six. And the following season from Six to Five. Is this because there is no Step 13? As there used to be a 1st Division for the latter but I believe it was closed a couple of seasons ago due to a lack of teams. AhMostyn Posted November 19, 2020 Share Posted November 19, 2020 (edited) This has been a little project whilst recovering from a torn quadriceps tendon & I'm hoping it may be of use to those playing Dan's database - a logo pack down to level 20: What the pack contains - English lower league teams down to level 20 covering the vast majority of the added teams in Dan's database - English lower league competition logos - Guernsey & Jersey team & competition logos (where available) What the pack does not contain - 126 clubs for whom I have not been able to find any details (check out the "Missing FM20 Logos.txt" file in the download for details of these) - No logos for the lower league cups (if I find the time & the motivation I may look for these) - No logos for those teams/competitions that are in the default SI database (i.e. those down to level 9.) - there are plenty of existing logo packs available elsewhere on the internet, so there is no point in re-inventing the wheel & they're done to a far higher standard then I could ever hope for. If you don't already have the relevant logo pack, type "FM20 logo pack" into your search engine of choice and pick the style that appeals to you (personally the metallic style is a favourite of mine). The quality of the logos is variable & depends on what I've been able to find on the internet. When fm21 gets released if anyone can see it Dan’s FM19 level 19 file works ( will go on the editor not bothered bout teams moving about that happens anyway). I can’t use the fm20 file which will work coz my laptop is not strong enough. Jamie SW Posted November 23, 2020 Share Posted November 23, 2020 Thank you so so much for this database, finally can play with the team I volunteered with Ilkley Town in the West Yorkshire League. One thing I am wondering about is on the save travel costs seem really unrealistic and they're crippling me. Like 1k to travel to a game which was 10 miles from Ilkley, in real life there aren't any travel costs cos players and staff handle that themselves. AhMostyn Posted November 26, 2020 Share Posted November 26, 2020 Another update to the logos - found another 7 (goonhavern, northowram, stockbury athletic, stroud united - all of which I'd missed on my collation - di united, howle hill & sutton [yorks] - who had been on the missing list), corrected the config for afc bodmin, corrected the logo for st erme & a number of better quality images for those already in the pack. Also some additions to the small logos to ensure that when searching, the logo shown is the team one & not a generic one - which can happen if a reserve team is returned in the search results. For those who've downloaded already - download the attachment in this post, extract & paste over the existing file structure replacing files when prompted. For those who haven't downloaded yet - clicking on the original link (or here) will include the additions/changes made to date. petertr Posted July 21, 2021 Share Posted July 21, 2021 Probably a bit old hat now, but Ive tried a couple of files and get the same every time As soon as I make any changes, I cannot verify the file, as the Devon Football League South & West shows 15 teams, but the Editor thinks it has 17. Apparently it should have 16. If I try to add a team so that it shows 16, the Mcdonalds Cup falls over, and then if I fix that, the League then complains there's 18 teams, when there's only 16 showing (both current and next season). maybe its just me? Either way, I've put about 3 hours into it now, and tbh I never want to look at the editor again :) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
