As per the OP, we can't say how many leagues it will run to your liking as this is entirely subjective.  It has a decent processor though, so should play the game well,

But would it be worth paying the extra for this keeping in mind I’m not fussed about 3D I like the 2D do you think it’s worth paying extra https://www.box.co.uk/30029418-Medion-Erazer-E10-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-_3554453.html

There's very little in it - the cheaper one has better single-core benchmarks, but the other one has better multi-core benchmarks.

So, if you're not too worried about 3D or other games, I'd probably go for the cheaper one.

But, if you are thinking about playing in 3D and want the higher settings, or playing any other games, then I'd pay the extra for the other one.

Yeah won’t be playing any other games literally only FM. So you reckon the Lenovo ? I’m torn haha! Tbh a quick smooth responsive game and not being fussed about 3D happy with 2D is all I’m after. So the Lenovo would do the job for that ?

Yep, absolutely.  It's a current generation i5 and is very capable - and in fairness, if you do decide you want to play in 3D it should manage that quite well too.  Maybe not at max settings, but it will definitely handle the 3D graphics.

On a PC, what are the minimum specs for maximum detail in graphics for FM, about 20 leagues loaded and a decent processing speed?

And I'm not clued up on the power of i3 and i5 on new models - can you assess these 2 and tell me how decent each are for FM?  Thanks a lot ;)

The minimum requirements for graphics would be a mid-range graphics card.

Section 2 starts with Mid-range from highest to to lowest
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

Section 3 starts mid-range heading towards lower end

The further you go through the list the lesser the graphics card.

The higher on the list - better

There is now way to discern - get the one that you can afford the highest up the list as possible.

The processors are almost on par but the i5 8400 is just as good - you get more RAM.

In your links the the one from PTC computers looks good.

They both have the same graphics card - so equal performance for graphics.

Also just posted this in the 'how many leagues do you load thread' so sorry in advance for the duplicate...

Can anyone help me out with this one.

I own a 16” MacBook Pro 2019 (2.6 GHz 6-Core i7, 16G RAM, AMD Radeon Pro 5300M, 500G SSD)

I recently acquired from work the following:

Dell Precision 7730 17” (2.90 GHz 6-Core i9-8950HK, 32G RAM, Radeon Pro WX 4150, 500G SSD)

With the Mac I run about 25 leagues from 22 nations with a large DB.

Granted the fans kick on now and again and it gets warm sometimes, but I get 5 star graphics ratings on recommended very high settings and I get 2 stars for predicted game speed with that league setup. Also it wizzes through game time no problem.

I figured the Dell would be a step up for FM, but with the same setup I get 3 stars and medium recommended for graphics, and 1.5 stars for games speed, with the same league setup. Also you can fry an egg on it and the fans ramp up a lot. It seems slower running through game time too.

I figured on that spec of windows laptop being a noticeable upgrade. Whats the logic behind the i9 not being quicker than the i7 and is the WX4150 a weaker graphics card?

Not trying to be clever here, just very inexperienced on Windows gaming. Thanks.

I don't see any Mac's from 2016 having the 5300m graphics card. Can you screen shot your specs on the Mac?

The wx graphics card isn't as strong.

Macs processor speed requirements was 1.8ghz and 2.0ghz on windows, or something like that.

There's not much difference in the processors.

The star rating in game has always been flawed. It depends on other things, like background tasks, or things like that.

How does it perform?

I know this isn't technically about a new laptop, but I'm looking for some advice/help. The game rates my 3D capability at 5 star but I get a lot of lag and framerate slowdown when watching the matches (dropping to like 1-2fps for a few seconds multiple times during games). I've tried dropping the quality from high to medium and even locked the framerate at 30fps, which helped but didn't cure the issue. I've updated my drivers to the latest version but that didn't fix it either.

Do you reckon the graphics card is the issue here or is the cpu too old?

Other than updating your games drivers, head over to Nvidia website and download their driver updates.

Else you can visit the support forum on these forums.

I'd like to buy a good lightweight laptop (preferably oled screen) that runs FM22 pretty well.

Currently looking at this: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/samsung-galaxy-book-pro-13-3-laptop-intel-core-i5-512-gb-mystic-silver-10224702-pdt.html

Main reasons being the screen, battery and how light it is. Would be interested to know anyone's thoughts on using a 13'3" screen too as my old laptop is closer to the 15" scale. Happy to take recommendations for similar!

Hey Guys!

Kevhamster, Smur...

Which is better: Ryzen 7 5700u or i7-1165g7 thinking only in Football Manager?

Other question: For FM is better a cpu strong in single thread or in multi core?

I7-1165g7 é stronger in single core and Ryzen 7 5700 is better on multi core...

@kevhamster

I'm looking for a new laptop mainly to use FM on. I don't need to have lots of leagues loaded, just want the game to run good and for the graphics etc to be fine.

Ideally, I don't want to spend more than £400-£600.

I've come across and would appreciate your opinion, or if you think there's a better laptop within my price range.

It would be fine for FM.

The Macbook Air 13 inch with M1 Chip would be best in terms of power and portablity. And not far off the price although at the same time a bit more expensive.

I don't think it has the OLED screen - but rumour is it's coming.

The Samsung book is fine and cheaper than the Macbook Air with 512gb SSD.

But the MacBook Air beats it in processor/power/graphics

Here are some other options for the OLED

16inch

13 inch

https://www.box.co.uk/UX325EA-KG301T-ASUS-ZenBook-Intel-Core-i7-16GB-1TB-SSD-_3555496.html

Save a bit here
https://www.box.co.uk/UX325JA-KG233T-ASUS-ZenBook-13-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-51_3599466.html

All viable options for FM.

I7-1165g7 é stronger in single core and Ryzen 7 5700 is better on multi core...

This is where it gets muddled

The 5700u is ranked higher on https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html?

But the i7 is faster.

Here

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/AMD-Ryzen-7-5700U-vs-Intel-Core-i7-1165G7/4156vs3814

The single thread rating for the 5700u is lower than than the i7.

So the 5700u has more cores and threads - but is slower overall.

In fact it's 1.8ghz at it's minimum.

This is the bare minimum requirement for FM.

For that reason I'd go for the i7 in this case - as it has a faster single core performance.

Even though it hasn't got as many cores/threads as the Ryzen.

This is the answer I got from SI themselves:

Quote

For how the game uses threads - it will create as many threads for playing matches and shortlisting as you have cores (including hyperthreads).

But the performance you see varies on the setup for example with matches - Quick Matches for instance (so for loaded but non-managed in leagues) it's are so fast anyway it gets to the point where it doesn't make that much more difference having more cores.

If you use detail level to set more stuff to full match you'll start seeing betters gains for more cores, but of course will still be slower than by just not having the league loaded, or having it at a low detail level.

Similar sort of thing with shortlisting the more / leagues players you have loaded the more benefits you can potentially see with more cores, however this is probably more than offset by the general slowdown from having more stuff loading as there's still a large portion of the game which is single threaded.

In regards to best processors, as a general guide we tend to suggest using the following comparison site as a good gauge of the performance capabilities - https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html

Basic rule of thumb is the higher it is on the list, the better it is. You can edit it to show processors for desktops and also those that are considered 'archived' via the restriction options.

Hope some of this is of use.

Just to advise that this has 512gb storage.

The Macbook Air 13 inch M1 with 512gb is £1250

You get a lot less storage of 256gb with the Macbook Air M1 for £999 - (not £929)

For 13 inch laptops - the Macbook Air is one of the better arounds for the price - but the one under 1K has not got a lot of storgage.

If you're happy with spending an extra £350 and getting less storage then go for it.

In terms of the performance - see my post a few up from here - the M1 chip is slightly better - but I suppose you are paying £350 more for it.

So it's no surprise.

It should be - it has the current gen i5 in it, which is a very strong laptop CPU and the Iris Lake XE graphics are very capable for an integrated GPU.

Of course, we can't guarantee as we don't know what the system requirements will be beyond FM22.  But, the system requirements have remained mostly static for a few years now, so if we assume that trend continues then it should be good for a few years.

I have the same specs but a TI version of the 1050.

I get between 48-56 fps on high settings. Not enough to match the refresh rate of the screen so its not smooth but doesn't bother me.

That CPU is showing its age but can still do a job as along as you don't load too many leagues.

You can check the benchmarking thread.

I'd put it right around the equivalent of the 8750h or the 9750h. Just my opinion.

M1 is faster.

It's completely up to you if you want to justify the extra cash.

The zenbook is more than capable. You can upgrade the RAM and the SSD later on.
You cannot do that with a Mac.

Hi Guys,

Been reading through all the pieces of advice on here and thought I could use some of my own, as I am complete novice when it comes to laptop specs! Usually load England, France, Spain & Germany leagues on the game and have played in 2D for the most part of my FM career.

Currently using a an older MacBook Air which seemed to run previous versions of FM fairly well. Have seen a lot of talk about the new M1 chips in the 2020 models of MacBook so was thinking of just upgrading to that?? Question is; Can I get something just as good, in terms of performance, as a cheaper alternative?

Laptop will be used for FM 90% of the time.

Thanks :)

It doesn't seem to benchmark quite as strongly as the M1 chip in the newer Macs, but it's a very capable CPU and will allow you to play in 3D if you want to as well.  I think this is likely as good as you will get within the budget.

Hi guys,

With FM22 coming out, I'm looking for a pretty decent all round laptop for basic everyday use that can easily run FM. I won't be doing any other gaming on the laptop so I'm not looking for a gaming laptop, more a portable but fairly powerful and smooth laptop to last me a few years before upgrading.

Have been looking at this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B082R8K2GN/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A2QV0D9Q5FBCED&psc=1

Budget of £600-800

Basically just wondering if the laptop linked would be suitable for FM using multiple nations / leagues and whether you'd recommend similar priced laptops over this one

Cheers

You'd have to check the skinning forums - I have no idea. I presume you can. They are just image files.

There's hardly any difference between the two OS. For me anyway.

You'll open up the computer. You'll have a Dock on your bottom - and all your apps will be there - you can add/remove apps from the dock - hide it - show it do whatever you need.

install Steam. Log in. Install FM. And play as per normal - there's no difference.

Open Chrome/Safari/Firefox (might need to install them) -

Install Netflix - install whatever you need - dock what you use most.

Away you go.

You can, no problem whatsoever. I am playing FM 22 on Macbook Air with faces, kits, logos etc.

Cheers

I'd avoid that - the CPU has a very low base clock speed.

This is a better bet: https://www.box.co.uk/A1PML10E117Y-Dynabook-Tecra-A50-J-151_3850631.html
