Most of the laptops that size are the terrible ones with Celeron processors, or Chromebooks. It's a great deal for anyone who wants a super compact machine. dazza11
Great thread, inspired me to seek a new laptop, I travel quite a bit with work so looking to combine something small for travelling, but powerful enough to give me a fast fm! Need windows based rather than apple so I can pretend I’m working! Have a decent budget of £2000-£2500 so don’t want to get it wrong! Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated

Lempicka
Great thread guys - a real godsend! I have an okay laptop (i7-8550U - 16gb ram), but I'm thinking about treating myself to something better for Christmas - provided it can handle running all leagues comfortably. Is this something I could get for under £900? I should add, apart from a bit of Photoshop/Lightroom, a few city builder/ strategy games and streaming - it’ll mainly be for FM. As per the OP, I can't comment on how many leagues any given laptop will run to your satisfaction and to be honest, I imagine even the most powerful CPU's would chug a bit if running every single league. But, you can definitely improve over that setup for £900. This won't impact FM at all, but may have some impact on other games you're playing so if you can definitely afford the extra £50 then I'd say go for it.

andreas_10
Hi All! Would really appreciate recommendation for a new laptop.. I am in the UK, budget's up to £700. Normally play FM with ~5 leagues, graphics loaded, preferably 3D. This laptop is bought with a primary purpose of just playing FM23+. So, at first I was going to ask if you could offer simply the cheapest reliable model, however, assuming there is still not going to be anything below ~£400? If that is right, I would rather just spend more of the budget to get some more longevity and versatility (my usual use: internet, tv/music streaming, basic photo/video edit, basic office work). Much appreciated.
miosvedlund
Hi! i plan on buying a new laptop because im not completely satisfied with my current one. I always like to be able to load as many leagues as possible when doing journeyman saves and still be able to advance my save pretty quickly. Find that the most enjoyable way to play. There is certainly a viable option at £400: https://www.box.co.uk/82LM0054UK-Lenovo-ideaPad-5-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256_3596990.html Very good CPU with integrated graphics which should handle the 3D match graphics at medium settings (possibly higher). I'll probably still go for the top budget option as I'm wary I'll eventually just want to get out more of the machine or certainly just a hassle-free overall performance. Could I just get your advice on the RAM situation - there's a lot of noise on how 8GB just isn't enough for today's computer & 16GB should be the minimum. Is this justified or is 8GB still sufficient to satisfy basic day to day use and of course FM processes?

If you're looking at other games, I'd probably suggest 16GB RAM but that does mean increasing the budget as when I looked there were no gaming laptops with 16GB RAM under £700. There are some models which are non-gaming laptops which do have 16GB RAM though, and these would also be fine for FM. I can look for some of these as well if you'd like me to. Jogo Bonito
Good evening. This is a great thread, very interesting to read through and much good advice. I currently have a 2019 Dell Inspiron 15 3000 (Inspiron 3585) which doesn't seem great for FM. Processor : AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx (Clock Speed : 2Ghz) Disk Drives BC511 NVMe SK hynix 256GB Display Adapters AMD Radeon(TM) Vega 8 Graphics Module Dual In-Line Memory Mod ule,8GB,2X4G I've never owned a Gaming Laptop but seriously considering it now. My budget would be around £800 (£900 max). It would be used for FM including creation and storage of kits via Kitbasher & storage of other graphics for FM, streaming football (legally), SkyGo/BBC I-Player, and general internet browsing. If I remove all my FM related stuff from my current laptop that one should still be fine for using on normal stuff, so the new one could be almost exclusively used for FM related purposes. Would a gaming laptop be significantly better and faster than what I have? And are there any good Black Friday recommendations? I see lots of suggestions but being a luddite it's a bit overwhelming to have so many choices. Thanks in advance. I was just trying to keep it within £800 as that seemed to be your preference in your original post.
joviduse
One question, what characteristics should a computer have to be able to play Football Manager by loading all the leagues and running smoothly? The strongest CPU possible, but I imagine even the top end CPU's would chug a bit with every league loaded, especially as the game progresses. phetrov
Would https://www.argos.co.uk/product/1174526?clickPR=plp:5:5, be good enough to play FM23 smoohtly and comfortably. Been asked to recomment to somone whos budget is £450 and this looks like it could run a good few leagues. Rest of the use is standard netflix, youtube, maybe some other steam games but nothing like GTA/Warzone etc

Rest of the use is standard netflix, youtube, maybe some other steam games but nothing like GTA/Warzone etc It'll be fine for FM. As for other games, that's really hard to say without knowing which games. It only has integrated graphics so won't be able to run anything which is graphically demanding. rah1991
Recently upgraded my old (was good spec in its day) laptop to windows 10, and sadly really seems to have frazzled it and slowed it down painfully. With this in mind I’m considering maybe an upgrade with Black Friday about should the right deal be about. I feel things have moved on a lot since I last bought, so feel a touch overwhelmed. The laptop would be used for FM with a decent but not crazy number of leagues loaded, and a bit of homework for my daughter. Ideally I’d keep price down as much as possible with a baby on the way next summer, but could probably go up to £600/£650 if necessary. with this in mind, would this be a decent option, or is there better out for there for the money/cheaper? https://www.currys.co.uk/products/asus-vivobook-s-15-k3502za-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i5-512-gb-ssd-grey-10240522.html

Yes, the CPU is previous gen and therefore not quite as strong, but it's still very capable. However, if you're thinking of going that kind of route, this one has a stronger CPU with the same graphics card and it's cheaper: https://www.box.co.uk/82K200C2UK-Lenovo-ideaPad-Gaming-3-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-_3638079.html
tomzo_2
Hi, Wife is getting an allowance from work and also being guided on what she should be buying. I have an old HP Pavillion that I run FM on but it’s slow. As she doesn’t work full time hours I’m thinking of utilising it for FM/Steam and then Netflix, Video Editing/Design etc: They are trying to advise as she travels and doesn’t do much other than Emails, Publisher/PowerPoint: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/microsoft-12.5-surface-laptop-go-intel-core-i5-64-gb-emmc-platinum-10214686.html Any thoughts on it for its capability or any suggestions - Budget is about £600 max! Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. I'd avoid that to be honest - 4GB RAM isn't ideal, you really want 8GB at least these days, plus the CPU isn't great and it only has 64GB storage. Something like this would be better: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/asus-vivobook-k553ea-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i5-512-gb-ssd-silver-10224577.html
