How’s the display on the TUF Gaming? Seems all well and good from gaming perspective from streaming should I look for something else

What do you think of this option? Better display and plenty of GPU for gaming. Can get it for 1175 with 10 percent of first order

What do you plan on playing on your legion 7 i9? I don’t think I need the extra for what I’d be using it for.

Hi folks.  I've been lurking hoping someone would ask about desktops in here but it's all been laptops recently so I had to bit the bullet and post something myself!

I take it desktops will still provide the best bang for your buck these days?  If so, I'm looking for a desktop, budget maybe around the £700-£800 mark. It'll be for general purpose stuff like surfing the net and obviously playing FM (I don't use the 3D match engine but do like to run as many leagues as I can) but I do play a couple of other games like Civilization, albeit only occasionally and a tiny bit of photo editing.

I need a new monitor as well - not sure if I can get recommendations in here. In a  general sense I take it I'm best buying separately rather than any sort of package including it with the desktop? The monitor will double up for a work screen as well so needs to be a reasonable size and good for spreadsheets and looking at photos. I don't expect to be using it to stream videos much. I guess the budget for the screen is in the range of £150-£200. Size wise, I don't know to be honest - Google suggests 24 or 27 inches but any advice on that would be appreciated too.

Hi Everyone,

I am hoping someone knowledgeable can please help me.

I've bought a new laptop which is the ENVY 15-ep1002na Laptop, Intel Core i9 Processor, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, 15.6" 4K OLED. I wanted to have a lot of leagues running on football manager, so loaded a new game and the player count is over 120,000. However it is the saying the estimated game speed is only half a star.

Even having 90,000 players only has an estimated game speed of 1.5 stars. These estimated speeds are no different to my older laptop.

Is my laptop not good, or is the estimated game speed not accurate and I should be fine?

Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Is this with a dedicated graphics card to? I was looking at a i9 13th gen but if that's what u get then I may as well spend cheaper.

Don't pay too much attention to the star ratings for game speed, they're very flawed to be honest.  Any game with a large database such as this will see slower processing speeds, but a modern i9 will process that quicker than pretty much anything else.

I'm so glad you asked about desktops as I too am on the lookout. Can't afford anything expensive, would prefer new but maybe I'll have to consider refurb. Windows 11, 16gb ram I think?, 256gb+ SSD, built in WiFi, hdmi port, at least 3 USB ports.

What's your budget?  That CPU is a few years old and you'll likely be able to get something a bit better.

I'd say £450 very tops, but that would need to be new I think. My existing desktop is AMD A4-3300 and 8gb RAM. I assume anything these days will be better?

Alright?

I've done the Usual thing, Just went a brought a new PC on a whim. Done my research, but as usual, didnt come here first. Although I love tech, the GPU market seems a minefield of "Yes, but actually No" regarding what is good and what Isnt.

Anyway enough Waffling, i5-13400F with 16gb DDR4 RAM decent enough for FM? I know its going to be an Improvement on my, I believe, i5-7400, but enough to make a noticable difference? I'm into 2030 with ~ 45 leagues (100K Players) and things are noticably slowing down now as the game world fills up.

Decent Purchase? I'm usually a console player, but brought What I woudl consider a low-Mid entry PC to expand my PC gaming a bit (F1 Manager for one) Comes with a RTX3050, which has seemingly been slated, but i'm not looking for anything over 1080p tbh.

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-7400-vs-Intel-Core-i5-13400F/3886vs4144

Based on that, should be a very nice uplift in performance compared to the older one.

RTX 3050 is fine for basic 1080p gaming for the games you've mentioned - it's an entry level card, but as long as you're not expecting to run things in 4K or play VR with it, you'll be fine.

I'm aware of the 3050 Limitations, its just some games I find a ballache on Console (F1 Manager for 1) and decided I might as well get something that will scrap through for a decent price rather then go all out and realize I didn't play enought to Warrant it long term.

Although the system requirements will increase for FM25 onwards, I'd still expect them to be reasonably modest compared to a lot of games out there, so I'd be very surprised if this wasn't good enough.

Very hard to say, as we don't know how the system requirements will look when the game moves over to Unity for FM25.  To be sure, I'd be looking at a machine with a dedicated graphics card, such as this which is the same price as the Surface you linked:

I was looking at more a multi device, that could be split! Do u have any recommendations on that sort of device? Thanks

The issue here is you will pay a lot for a device like that, with a dedicated graphics card, such as this: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/microsoft-14.4-surface-laptop-studio-intel-core-i7-512-gb-ssd-platinum-10234254.html

Until we know what the system requirements are going to be for FM25, which isn't probably going to be until around this time next year, it's really hard to say with any certainty that machines with integrated graphics will be OK for FM25 onwards (although apparently 2D will still be an option which will likely help).

It should be, assuming the specs are in line with FM23's which I imagine they will be - up until next year's game which is an absolute unknown, the system requirements haven't changed much when it comes to running the game on Windows.

Wouldn’t this be a better purchase than the Surface. More screen estate and newer processor? https://www.currys.co.uk/products/hp-pavilion-x360-14ek1510sa-14-2-in-1-laptop-intel-core-i7-512-gb-ssd-silver-10250996.html

Considering getting a new laptop, seen this one (https://www.currys.co.uk/products/lenovo-ideapad-gaming-3-15.6-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-rtx-3050-512-gb-ssd-10249077.html) recommended - wondering if there’s anything better for a similar budget, I’m used to having more RAM on my machine, not sure if that’s as important given this one appears to be a slightly more ‘gaming’ laptop?

Had a HP Envy with Intel Core i7 and an nvidia GEForce graphics card for about 8.5 years and it’s done me well but starting to slow down a bit, use it for playing FM, some light graphics stuff and DJing, so would like to replace it with something I can do all that on comfortably and watching films etc if travelling too.

Yeah I think that’s my plan to just play fm24 on console and wait until the specs are released, do you know if the 4050 is better than the 3060 for laptops?

UserBenchmark: Nvidia RTX 3060 (Laptop) vs 4050

Use that website to compare the benchmarks. I don't think the 4050 is worth the extra cost over the 3060 model imo. If you can afford to stretch out your budget to a 4060 laptop, then that is the sweet spot when it comes to laptop GPU and prices. The 30 series cards are still good for FM currently, but remember they are already a generation old and by the time FM25 comes out, the 50 series may be around the corner; and laptops cannot upgrade the graphics card. Like you said, it may be best to wait until the FM25 specs are announced first and then go from there, price wise etc.

Hi Everyone,

I was hoping someone could help as I know absolutely nothing about technology!

I am looking for a laptop solely to play football manager as mine has packed in.

I tend to only load the 4 top English leagues and I’m simply looking for the cheapest option that will run FM smoothly. I had purchased one before without seeking advice and that, even when brand new, was painfully slow to play on.

I am happy to buy refurbished also.

Is there anything available for less than £200? As I said, I won’t use the laptop for anything else.

Thanks

Under £200 is a stretch, even for pre-owned stuff.

This is the cheapest thing I can find which would probably run the game smoothly.  You'll probably need to use lower 3D graphics settings, and with the as yet unannounced changes for system specs that FM25 will bring in, no idea how this will perform for that.

I have recently started playing FM23 after borrowing a laptop which has i5-3337U (ranked 770th) with 8gb ram.  I'm finding it slow running 2 nations and 8 leagues with 24k players and hoping that a new laptop will be a noticable upgrade?

I would like to limit myself to £500 but would go a wee bit higher if it was worth it.  I'll only really be playing FM and tend to play matches in 2D, would love to play multiple leagues with a large database and have it go from day to day quickly.

I would prefer a 14" screen so I can comfortably sit on the sofa with family and would like it to be quiet.  I've read that 16gb ram makes everything feel nicer but not 100% sure whether I actually need it.  I have never purchased refurbished electronic goods but would consider it.

Quite the wish list and not sure if it is achievable with my budget so any advice is appreciated.  If I can't achieve a noticable difference in performance on this budget I'll continue to save until I can.

Thank you for any assistance!
