HI everyone,

Terrific thread this, looking for some advice on a new laptop now that my old faithful has finally packed it in.

Would only be for FM and browsing the web/streaming and have a budget of £400.

Saw this on currys - is that a decent deal or could I get more bang for my buck elsewhere?

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/acer-aspire-3-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i5-512-gb-ssd-silver-10243540.html

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Steve

Cracking deal for the price.  I'd say go for it.

Thank you

Would this laptop be any better than the above you have kindly posted?

Nope, the one I posted would be better.  The CPU is stronger:

I did miss that the OS is Windows 10 S though, so you'll need to switch Windows out of S mode to install Steam or Epic to install FM.  Guide to do that is here:

Hi there, looking for a bit of advice, been a FM player for a years and the old laptop wasn’t up to much standard to run FM so time for a new one.

What I’m looking for is a laptop that will be able to run 6/7 leagues with a Large database , I’m not overly fussed about 3D as I always loved the 2D.

I’d much prefer if it was able to run smoothly as I tend to play long term saves so something without much lag etc would be ideal.

Budget is around £500-£700.

Thanks in advance, doing Gods work helping as I haven’t got a clue about what I’m looking for.

Hi,

I was just looking for any recommendations for smaller laptops which will be pretty much only used to play FM23 and to stream TV on.

Looking for a few recommendations of varying price(low, mid & hi) if possible.

Basically I’m a HGV driver that wants something compact, light with fairly good battery life if possible. I’ve got a 5yr (ish) old 15” laptop I use at home but battery life is terrible and only lasts about 1-2hrs and it’s a bit too big to take in my bag with me daily.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone !

I'm looking for a PC hybrid to play FM23.

I made some research on the net for several days now but i don't find something...

I mean i'm not sure.

I live in France and my knowledge on PC hybrid are not really good lol

Have you some PC to recommand me please ?

I want a hybrid for the tablet because i'm gonna use the PC hybrid for multimédia and for that, i prefer the tablet instead of the PC

And maybe with the black friday i could find something good 🙏

Around 600€ if it's possible. I don't know

Thanks for the help 🙏

This is the one I'd go for: https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5-series/legion-5i-gen-7-(15-inch-intel)/82rb00gjau?orgRef=https%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.sigames.com%2F

Can't comment on how you'll find the speed with any specific setup, as per the OP, but this will handle the game as well as anything else within the budget.  It's got the best CPU I can find in that price bracket.

Awesome, thanks Kev!

Best CPU of the lot, but is cheaper because of the weaker graphics card which will still be more than enough for FM.

The issue with laptop/tablet hybrids is a lot of the time they are very low powered and so not particularly suited to gaming of any kind.

But, if you can give me examples of stores you can buy devices from in France I'm happy to have a look at what's available.

Awesome thanks! Better than the Legion? Is there a difference with 16gb and 32gb ram for FM purposes?

Actually it has a slightly better CPU than the Legion.  For FM, you should  not see any difference between 16GB and 32GB RAM.

Hey all, great thread this!

I wanted to please get your thoughts on laptop options. I dont require any great graphics as play games in 2D anyway. However, Id like to run 4-5 leagues on a large database if possible. My budget is £250- £400  - but I would consider options at both ends of that scale if anyone could suggest any potential options at both ends?

Thanks in advance!

Lower end price: https://www.box.co.uk/AVITA-LIBER-NS14A8UKV542-SG-AVITA-Liber-V-14-Pro-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM_3355400.html

Higher end price: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/acer-aspire-3-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i5-512-gb-ssd-silver-10243540.html

I would definitely recommend the more expensive one of the two as there's a significant jump in performance between them.

1st time poster.

Have read through the last few pages as I'm looking at a new laptop - frankly it blows my mind all he advice so I'm a bit overwhelmed!

I'm not tech savvy at all, my current laptop is 10+ years olds and just about manages to still run FM12(!). Looking at getting the new FM and so I'll be looking to upgrade.

I'll be using the laptop primarily for FM but also for general browsing, spreadsheets and the kids homework. Budget wise maybe £3-400 (maybe slightly over if the specs warrant it).  From looking at the previous threads I have a fairly good idea of the suggested ones and feel a bit dim repeating the questions already asked; but for my piece of mind, what would be a good recommendation?

Thanks in advance

They look similar, not sure if I’ll need 512, would 256 be ok? Can’t see much else difference between the 2 (apart from the colour!), but as said I’m not particularly savvy with IT.

The one I posted is a fair bit better.  The one with the 256GB SSD has an older generation i3 processor, which won't run the game as well and has weaker integrated graphics.  It'll definitely play the game, but if you can afford the higher price it'd be money well spent to be honest.

Such great advice in this forum. I also have a question. I am currently playing on this machine, but with graphics settings on high the match engine is occasionally stuttering (not to mention that the laptop get's hot as hell).

Razor 15" 2018

Prozessor: Intel Core i7-8750H
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q - 6 GB VRAM

Given that it's Black Friday and there are so many discounts going around is there any model below 1000€ you'd recommend that would improve the performance of the game?

Hi Kev

do you think the below would be suitable for FM23 ?

I’m hoping for a Black Friday on this 🙌🏻

thank you

It'll be fine, but if you don't mind a larger display there are cheaper models with the same spec.  Let me know if you'd be happy with something larger.

There are definitely models you can get, but the one you have should still be absolutely fine.   The CPU is still decent by current standards and the graphics card should be more than enough?

Have you made sure all the drivers are up to date?  May also be worth getting a can of compressed air and giving the air vents a blow with it as there may be dust build up if it's getting that hot.

If you still definitely want to buy something new I'd go with this: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/acer-nitro-5-15.6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-rtx-3060-512-gb-ssd-10238558.html

I’m particularly keen to go with a 12/13 “ screen to be honest. Do you think I’m overpaying for what it is?

Hi Kev

Really great and helpful thread!

I’m currently looking for a laptop and wondered if you had any recommendations?

It’d be used mainly for FM but probably also a couple of other strategy games as well. Otherwise just streaming and writing etc. I would prefer a display screen on the larger side!

I tend to do quite a few journeyman saves with a lot of leagues loaded as anything that could cope with large games would be great!

I’m pretty useless with computers so any recommendations?

Budget is about £600-£800. Any help much appreciated!

Only for the guy in the Currys store to tell me it won't run Football Manager? Surely he's talking nonsense? I've taken it home anyway!

Yes, he's talking nonsense. It'll run the game perfectly well.

If you want the smaller screen, you won't find any better for the same price. Most of the laptops that size are the terrible ones with Celeron processors, or Chromebooks. It's a great deal for anyone who wants a super compact machine.

I can't see anything better for the price for brand new laptops. Will probably be able to get something a bit better in a refurbished model though.

Can I get a second opinion on the above please. I love the idea of this all in one and it ticks so many boxes, it is slightly more than what I would hope to spend, but if it runs FM and runs it well, that will be the sealer for me. Ideally, I would want this to run FM with a not a problem at all.

My FM setup, generally is around 8 or 9 countries, large database. I do not touch anything 3D.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah looks like a good one. You should have no issues running a set-up like that on this PC.
