Season 2 - Vanarama North - 7th (promoted)

image.png.7dc6a07eccd2e3570716a136f4433cac.png

Started the season very slow; we were better than most teams in xG but couldn't finish. At one point one of my strikers had a 33 hour goal drought. Eventually team settled and the results started turning. South Shields almost caught us for 7th by having 10 wins and 4 draws in their last 14 but we had enough points to hold them off. First round of the playoffs was a pretty easy 2-0, second round had very few chances but we scored the only goal in extra time. In the final we got an early goal and then tried to hold that lead, eventually giving up an equalizer in the second half but a counter-attack in the 82nd minute led to a goal.

Biggest issue was that I had to make some "promises" (lies) to get some of these guys to join, so they are mad and probably won't re-sign. Because of this we are set to lose our best CB (top overall average rating), a starting CM, and a backup CB. Hoping we'll be able to replace them with some good players who are set for release but all currently have no interest in us. Being limited to only Welsh players hasn't affected the top-level talent on our team much, but we have very little depth so losing these 3 will be tough.

League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - I was expecting a consolidation season but we surged into the play offs and stayed there.  We got to the final at Wembley and defeating Grimsby in the final lead to our promotion into the football league.

FA Cup - Fixtures - another good run where after beating Sheffield Wednesday we faced Villa again, away this time and were smashed

FA Trophy - Fixtures - lifted this with a 1-0 thrashing of Barnet in the final

Finances - much improved with those cup runs.  We've turned professional.

Transfers - chopping and changing, I sold a player for a tidy sum at the end.

Squad

Key players:

Christian Saydee - another good season earned him a Liberia call up

Divin Mubama - prolific from the ex West Ham youngster

Emmanuel Longelo - good left back

Ben McPherson - solid from former Celtic youngster

Brandon Bryan-Waugh - good defender

Charlie Owens - solid from ex NI U21 player in midfield

Bashir Humphreys - great ex Chelsea centre half

Future - this is going to be an interesting season as I think its a little too early, so we'll see.  Our new stadium opening next season is already too small..

How are you set up...That is some impressive defensive solidity

43(flat)3(wide)

High press and high defensive line with the best pace and acceleraation in the league in defence.

Thought being, keep them away from goal and if they do break be able to get back and make some sort of challenge - and with the quality not being all that in the lower leagues a lot of play breaks down before they get near the box.

Just had a look at the xG for the 10 games... 0.82, 0.55, 0.35, 0.46, 0.72, 1.22, 0.98, 0.27, 0.48, 1.70 (where we finally conceded)

make of that what you will?!

DORCHESTER TOWN FC

BREAKING NEWS

After winning promotion to the English Vanarama National League South, the Board has decided to appoint Patrick van Dijk as the new manager. They believe and hope this young manager will bring success to Avenue Stadium. It will be a difficult first season for this manager as predictions say that Dorchester Town will relegate at the end of the season. So the task is to build a team that is able to avoid relegation. To help the Patrick van Dijk, the Board has decided the following budgets : Transfer Budget - € 7,365 and Payroll  - € 22,056 p/m.

Mickleover F.C. 2026/27 Season Review

League Table    XG Table    Squad    Transfers    Finances

Up we go again! 🙌

I was initially concerned after a rough first couple of months but strong late-season form coupled with most top-half teams struggling to open up any significant point leads meant we were able to slowly sail up into the playoff spots. Come the final round we weren't exactly favorites for the last promotion spot but with us facing 2nd-placed Fleetwood and 3rd-placed Charlton forced to contend with early champions Portsmouth, it wasn't beyond the realms of possibility either. Seeing Pompey dominate their game was encouraging—managing our own fragile 1-0 lead rather more nerve-racking—but I could barely believe my eyes when 4th-placed Oxford also fell to two late goals from already-relegated Cambridge, finally sealing the deal: We're 2nd and promoted!

There is no way this squad is ready for the Championship so this transfer window will be an interesting one. I'm also not sure how my ultra-defensive tactical approach is going to fare seeing how defense was our problem this season. We've gone from conceding 30-something goals to over 60, and more from defensive corners than anyone else in the league. If it weren't for Will Lankshear and his nearly 30 goals scored we'd have been nowhere near the top. A Championship season of soaking pressure from even better teams may just be too much. At least without major signings, but that approach may prove rough given we've less than £2M to work with.

On the financial side of things we were looking good—until I convinced the board to spend the entire bank balance on new training facilities. I may not have requested this had I known the full cost of the project, but hey, we've gotta keep up in this area too!

Aim for next season: Survive.

End of Season Review

Season 2025/26

FC United of Manchester

F.C. United of Manchester - Wikipedia

Season Summary

Another terrific season where we won the league title and secured another promotion, this time to the Championship.  The cups were ok though were nothing special.

Season Details

League Table - Once we hit the top of the table we never looked back and won the title with ease.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - Churning out the wins became a habit.  That said, we finished the season in poor form.

F. A. Cup - Third round elimination away to Arsenal ended our interest in this competition this season, though it did enable a bit of a payday for the club, which was much needed.

Carabao Cup - A very narrow defeat at home to giants Manchester City in the fourth round ended what was a great cup run.

Papa John's Trophy - After finishing runners up in our group, we qualified for the knockout rounds, though we lost on penalties away Aston Villa Under 23's in the second round, which put paid to any chance of a cup run.

Pre Season Friendlies - A surprise defeat away to League Two Mansfield spoilt what would of otherwise been an unbeaten pre season campaign.

Squad - We need to strengthen across the board to compete in the second tier.

Squad Dynamics - It is still rather nice.

Transfers In 1, 2 & 3 - I brought in a plethora of loans and free transfers, as well as once again breaking the club transfer record as the squad was upgraded.

Transfers Out 1, 2 & 3 - A lot of fringe players departed, as did a couple of first teamers, though all have sell on clauses.  The usual amount of young players left on loan too.  We did have our first £1m sale this season.

Youth Candidates - A decent enough intake though there is no real stand out star.  Right back Lloyd Rokka YP26A18 is highlighted as the pick of the bunch.

Finances - This is not so good. We are quite a lot in the red and I am hoping the increased revenues in the second tier will allow us to rectify this.

Key Players

Liam Walsh - The experienced central midfielder had another stellar year.

Aaron Morley - Versatile midfielder, he arrived on a free transfer from Rochdale and was very reliable.

Zak Emmerson - Striker who signed on loan for the season from Brighton and had a sensational time, scoring plenty of goals.

Joe Ford - Another loanee, the teenage central defender arrived from Burnley and was soon one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Olexandr Voloshyn - Portuguese right back signed on loan for the campaign from Famalicão in his homeland.  Had a cracking season.

Next Season

A nice, safe, mid table place would be just lovely.

Just a quick update from Hitchin:

Messed up big time on my first try, and got to a point where relegation was more or less given. I didn't realize team dynamics and happiness would be the most important factor in getting the players to perform, and absolutely botched it to the point where everyone was mad at me. The rules of the league where unfamiliar, and I didn't use trials and loans effectively. Anyway, instead of waiting for the inevitable sacking or relegation, I startet fresh and completed my first season with decent results. We missed out on the playoff by 3 points, which was annoying, but at least I've managed to keep most of my players happy and feel like I have a decent squad to battle for promotion next season.

Despite some spotty form mid-season and another patch towards the end of the season, we hung on and were crowned Champions of League 2.  We were led by our backline contingent of Hugo Bueno, Ayo Tanimowo, Zach Awe and Taylor Foran, as they supported stellar keeping from Aaron Maguire. On the offensive side, Kyle Hudlin led League 2 with 28 goals. Strike partners Victor Sodeinde  and Dylan Parker chipped in with 24 and 17 goals respectively. A dynamic midfield led by Armstrong Oko-Flex ( 6 goals, 11 assists), Callum Gribbin (3 goals, 12 assists), Tim Iroegbunam (4 goals, 12 assists), Skipper Aiden Mesias (5 goals,  7 assists), Mauro Bandeira (1 goal, 4 assists) all contributed as we scored 100 goals on the season. We battled injuries much more than previous seasons, but had enough depth to survive. Our Cup runs weren't much as we crashed out quickly. We are now in the red on our balance books as we end the season, so this summer should be challenging. Hudlin should be crowned Player of the Year and also Golden Boot.

Morpeth Town - Part 2 - Ascension

Season 5 - 2026/27 - League 1 - 6th - Playoff Final

Table - Best XI

This season was hugely frustrating, we would always start well but just couldn't hold onto a lead, so while we didn't lose too many we ended with an obscene number of draws and just barely scraped a playoff place on goals for. The semis were a bit of a grind, neither team willing to take a risk and we came out the other side 2-1 winners over Wycombe. Then we lost 5-3 to AFC Wimbledon in the final, with a hat trick by their on-loan Argentinian striker who had no business playing at this level (22 in 36 in the league that season).

Harker got 19, Snelgrove got 13. A few key additions moved the team up the league a decent ways - most importantly Aiden Sealy, a winger on loan from Southampton who chipped in 6 goals 15 assists, along with an extra centre back (Dane Murray) and a slightly better goalie (Luke McGee).

But none of this really matters. We didn't really deserve to get into the playoff places and would've been hugely unprepared for promotion. What happened this season is we cleared out the debt. An academy player was poached by Villa, giving me a load of transfer clauses that I cashed in for about £1m (he was pretty average and worth nowhere near that) - more than half the deficit cleared. We got to Wembley twice, first for the FA trophy final (lost to Fleetwood and only 13k attendance so didn't actually make that much) and then in the playoffs (52k turned up this time, much better for the coffers), and also made bank on a trip to St James Park in the FA Cup 4th round (also got a Prem team in the league cup, but at home sadly).

We upgraded training/youth facilities, upped the youth level, I finally got going on my badges again and I was handed a more reasonable budget to push on with.

Season 6 - 2027/28 - League 1 - 1st - Promoted

Table - Best XI

With the finances looking a lot healthier I had some freedom to deepen the squad a little bit - not a lot though, still restricted to frees mainly. The defence remained largely the same (and we conceded about the same number of goals) aside from picking up a promising youngster released by Arsenal, Jude Sampson. Having failed to renew Sealy's loan I signed up a young scottish winger (Cameron Fletcher) instead. The midfield was bolstered with around 5 backups. And crucially, a solid striker (Abu Kamara) to rotate with Harker (and could also do a shift on the wing, so neither got too upset about playtime).

With the gaps finally plugged we were ready to smash our way out of this league. Harker got 21, Kamara got 19, Snelgrove got 21 and Fletcher got 14, and yet again none of our players got top scorer in the league.

Club legend and star centre back Adam Long somehow got into his head that he wasn't getting enough game time, and left on a free at the end of the season.

Season 7 - 2028/29 - Championship - 3rd - Promoted via playoffs

Table - Best XI

The momentum carried into this season as we somehow achieved back-to-back promotions. The squad didn't change too much this year, most notably Harker hit his ceiling and played a more bit-part role behind free transfer Ellis Simms. The signing of winger/ attacking mid Ryan Duncan was a game changer, 7 goals 16 assists. We also got a promising young fullback Garry Ryan in on loan (he was OK, and only gets a mention here because we get him permanently a year later). Kamara was the real star this season, 18 goals and 10 assists playing mainly as a winger.

In the playoffs, we edged out Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 over 2 legs, and then beat Blackburn 3-2 at Wembley thanks to a hat trick from Simms.

Season 8 - 2029/30 - Premier League - 15th

Table - Best XI

This was the first truly tough season, I feel we were lucky to catch the league on a year where there were enough bad teams around to stop us dropping straight down. The squad inevitably got rebuilt, too many to bother describing here but I'll dump some screenshots - though we did bring back Adam Long as I felt he deserved to get a chance to play for us at this level. Our stadium was no longer suitable so we instead have to ground-share with QPR (??) and sold off the Ken Beattie Stadium after 3 years for less than 10% of what we paid for it. Our new stadium will take 2 years to build and is very creatively also called the Ken Beattie Stadium.

The turning point of the season came in the January window when we brought in teenage Australian striker Jackson Higgins for £500k from Macarthur FC, who could become a world class player. We'd been just about keeping our heads above water and I'd have fancied us to survive anyway, but he gave us a bit of breathing room with 9 goals in 14 apps (11 starts).

Most importantly, our 111 yellows and 6 reds obliterated the previous Premier League record for worst discipline.

The Future

The club is in a really good place right now. We've survived the first year in the prem, that's the hard part of the challenge done really, and we also have some exciting young players coming through. Still another year before we get our proper stadium. I should finish my badges sometime in the off-season, we'll keep upgrading facilities and we are long overdue a staff overhaul. The budget this time is £30m and £250k/w, even bigger than last years.

Dane Murray - McCauley Snelgrove - Cameron Fletcher - Jude Sampson - Abu Kamara - Garry Ryan - Ryan Duncan - Ellis Simms - Dominik Reimann - Felix Correia - Tiago Geralnik - Harry Funnell - Jackson Higgins

End of Season Review

Season 2026/27

FC United of Manchester

F.C. United of Manchester - Wikipedia

Season Summary

A surprising season that started slowly though soon turned into dominance.  We secured promotion with five games remaining and the league title with four.

Season Details

League Table - Once we were top, we never looked back.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We started slowly, though eleven straight league victories over Christmas and the new year saw the club surge up the table.

F. A. Cup - A decent enough cup run that was ended by Manchester City at the fifth round stage, who comfortably beat us on our own ground.

Carabao Cup - A very disappointing performances away to League One side Walsall saw the club eliminated in the first round.

Pre Season Friendlies - With ten wins and three defeats in our pre season campaign, it could of been worse I guess.

Squad - We lack depth across the board and with a small budget, I think our loan signings will prove crucial.

Squad Dynamics - Lovely, just lovely.

Transfers In 1 & 2 - Some great players arrived for small fees and free transfers.

Transfers Out 1, 2 & 3 - Quite a few departures, including another player for seven figures.  A lot of players also left on loan.

Youth Candidates - New Zealand goalkeeper Colin Margetts YP27G32 is the best prospect out of a promising intake.

Finances - If we hadn't cashed in a sell on clauses that yielded over £7.5m, this would be in a dreadful state.

Key Players

Sam Carey - The Irish central defender signed from Waterford for a then club record £350,000 and had an excellent campaign.

Josh Fowler - Welsh central midfielder who signed on a free transfer from Bala Town and raised his game somewhat and has become a mainstay in the team.

Ryan Schofield - The goalkeeper was signed as a backup though his form was such that he retained his place in the starting eleven.

Jed Moore - Young right back signed on loan for the season from Burnley and had an exceptional loan spell.

Mario Pompili - The twenty year old Italian is on loan from Inter for the season and had a great time, scoring 28 goals in 44 appearances.

Next Season

Survival.  Anything else is a bonus.

Biggleswade Town FC 2022-23 (Season 1)

Setup

I decided this week I wanted a break from my Youth Academy Challenge save in Belgium with RAAL La Louvisere, so am starting an English save. After the holiday I saw this gem pop up in VN-North that it seems no one else has selected yet. Starting Screenshots

Because I am already invested in a Youth-Only save this will essentially be the anti-that. So I won't invest into the youth side of the club, but rather focus on maximizing scouting and looking for the best youth-scalps I can. I will still sign good youth intakes, but I haven't even hired a HOYD or any U-18 staff so am not expecting much. This year: Good Preview ; Intake, but with poor facilities they won't improve.

The limitations I am setting for myself are that I can't use any of the search screens for Staff or Players. So only direct recommendations or applications (agent offers) for everyone. Also no senior affiliate loans. I can take their money but I have to find my loans the old fashioned way.

Performance

League Table ; Matches ; Competitions ; Year Review

Biggleswade Town have a small budget with low attendance and it started with half the budget locked into contracts for awful players that I couldn't get rid of: Transfers. With maxing out the loans and bringing in a lot of non-contracts/youths including a 16 year old Philippine BWM who I played in the first team we were able to secure a mid-table finish at 11th. After this season I'll only be keeping 6 players so I'll be able to do a proper rebuild.

Manager Thoughts

Forgot how many games England has, hopefully I can build up a larger squad to make it through the slog next year. Fitness was a big issue this season where we went winless in the middle of the season due to broken players. Club is of course broke as I stretched the budget so next season I'll have to be better if I want any coaching badges.

Kings Langley Season 4- 1st season League 1

We actually bumped into FPP territory last season (due to my loaners), so this season I am committing to using our quality youngsters as depth for our main squad.

In:

Zach Awe- DC (loaned from Norwich for another season) Our Talisman (and surprisingly League 2 Player of the Year over Kyle Hudlin) comes back on loan for one more season- very glad to pair him with Taylor Foran for another season
Ricky Jade-Jones- SC (free transfer after released by Norwich) a terrific addition to our strike corps, highest paid player but should be worth it for his ability
Marcelo Flores- Mexican (English) MC,AMRC,SC (free transfer from Arsenal) 21 year old is another terrific talent that I was surprised would come to us- will be playing inverted winger (unless needed at forward)
Stevie Brotherston- AMRLC,SC (free transfer from Manchester City) 18 year old that was wanted by 15 clubs, so very pleased to get him for depth at inverted winger
Martin Alderton- SC (free transfer from Leicester) 17, now 18 year old that looks like a terrific talent- likely to be loaned out this season as we have a lot of strikers
Jack Scott- Northern Irish DR (free transfer from Shrewsbury) we loaned him last season for depth, but this season likely to supplant Ayo Tanimowo as starting right back
Pat Mills- Irish DM,MC (free transfer from Everton) 17, now 18 year old that will be kept on Senior side as he already looks like a good ball-winner
Tarik Osborn- MRC (free transfer from Chelsea) 18 year old that will be kept on Senior side as he already is a solid midfielder
Sean Stewart- Northern Irish DLC (free transfer from Norwich) 22 year old depth player at leftback behind Hugo Bueno
Lordon Akolbire- D/WB RL (loaned from Colchester) depth player at both fullback spots

Out:

Franklin Domi (sold to South Shields for 20K) Good servant for club, but not League 1 ability and Hugo Bueno led me to transfer list him
Kemel Maguenni (sold to Drogheda for 75K) his salary of 1100/week was way too much for a reserve, so got what I could to get him off our books
Charlie Cooper (let go on free transfer) unfortunately not a League player and was unhappy as a sub, so it was time to let him go

After struggling in the beta, I now find this edition rather straightforward.  I have never breezed it as much as this.  Time will tell if the top flight goes the same way.

I found it the same when I did FC United. Found they had too much money coming in, especially early on, and got promoted straight to league 1. Decided to start again, so did Enfield Town. Much harder with 200 season ticket holders and less than 10 players to start with and none on professional contracts

Season 3 - Vanarama National - 18th

image.png.7dc6a07eccd2e3570716a136f4433cac.png

Usually find the non-league relatively easy, but restricting to just Welsh players has made it more difficult; the majority of targets we had were unwilling to negotiate or went to other clubs. We were pretty well clear of the drop zone from about the middle of the season on, so it wasn't all bad. Board also let me get first two coaching badges. Am hoping to pick up some better players in the offseason. Had a takeover and they took a £140k loan. Not much else going on right now; still semi-pro, still terrible facilities and such.

League Two
2024/25

League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - we were comfortably last in all metrics, from salary to attendance, but somehow we managed to secure 3rd on the last game of the season to win promotion again

FA Cup - Fixtures - great run to the 4th round until Palace beat us narrowly

EFL Cup - Fixtures - beat Millwall on penalties then Watford beat us comfortably

EFL Trophy - Fixtures - don't care

Finances - a lot better now.  Solidarity payments are ace.

Transfers - usual adjustments, lost Humphreys to a minimum fee clause.  We got Chelsea as a parent club which helped.

Squad

Key players:

Divin Mubama - good season again

Jaden Warner - Barbados international centre half

Michael Ledger - versatile defender

Taj Sodje - prolific ex Man City striker

Jude Soonsup-Bell - great Chelsea youngster on loan from January

Iestyn Hughes - good young Welsh full back formerly of Man Utd and Leicester

Daniel Adshead - good ex Norwich midfielder

Future - we really should not get promoted again, I need the club to have some consolidation as our reputation is lagging still (behind half a dozen National League sides).  On other news there was a takeover at the end of the season and we moved into the new stadium, which is already below ground grading requirements so I am expecting an end of season expansion.

Buxton FC Season 1 (2022-23)

Season Review

Vanarama National League North

Table | Fixtures 1 | Fixtures 2

A superb season all around saw Buxton, initially predicted to be relegated back down to the Northern Premier League, pip Gateshead to the title in an enthralling race. The Bucks only led the table for the final third of the season but held off sustained pressure from the ever-present Gateshead and, in spells, Boston. A remarkable 16 game unbeaten run midway through the season really propelled us forward, but we had to remain firm during the final few games to secure the title, doing so in the penultimate game as the 10 men of Buxton edged out Kidderminster 1-0 to spark wild celebrations amongst the Silverlands faithful. We ultimately won the title by 4 points, with Gateshead beating Boston in the playoff final to join us in next season's Vanarama National League.

FA Cup

My side definitely grew into the cup as we went. We narrowly avoided a shock defeat to bitter rivals Matlock Town before then again needing extra time - surely a bug in this year's FM with replays returning in real life? - to edge out Stratford Town. A superb performance against National League side Hartlepool propelled us into Round 1, where we were I think unfortunate to miss out on TV selection, and then even more unfortunate to go down 1-2 in a match that Colchester dominated, but where we had gilt-edged opportunities to level. Still, some great money for the club and a solid run.

FA Trophy

Really not sure why the board expected Round 1 when we entered in Round 2? Home ties were the order of the day as we stormed past Boston, snatch and grabbed a win over National League King's Lynn, before falling short to fellow step 2 side St Alban's in a reverse of our own victory in the round prior. 3 goals from 4 shots on target saw us crash out, but again it's not a bad run and something to build on next season.

Transfers

Tried to not overhaul the squad endlessly but ended up signing 8 players to varying success. Ethan Freemantle is the best of the bunch with 25 goal contributions to his name in the league this season. Very disappointed with Charlie Wellens as I snatched him upon his release by Manchester United, only for him to refuse to sign a new contract for next season as we don't match his ambition??

Squad

Not a bad squad by all means, but with a few ageing or unwilling to renew contracts under acceptable terms, we will need to rebuild the squad again next season to replace and improve players (ideally so they can fit around my tactic). My best player this season has been Chris Dawson - his set piece and assist abilities are superb, and we will be needing those next season.

Youth Intake

Intake 1 | Intake 2 | Scott Morrissey 23A | Sunday Kayode 23B | Emre Yeşil 23C

I think the game rates these players higher than I do, but there's some potential for a few of them and at the very worst, I might be able to sell them for a small amount later. Need a better youth setup and that will come eventually.

Finances

Board injections and cup runs have helped boost this a lot. Unfortunately a stadium upgrade and professional status aren't available now as the financial situation still isn't stable, but promotion should help that.

Next Season

Rebuild the squad, establish ourselves as a National League team, try and get some good cup runs again and improve those finances.

Summary

League

We started the season off really well, winning 5 of our first 6 games, losing only one. After that, our form became somewhat more inconsistent, but never terrible. We did better in the cups too this time around, reaching the 1st round of the FA cup and fourth round of the FA Trophy, just about outperforming expectations.

This did cause the dreaded January congestion, but this time I was prepared. Unlike last season, I had the numbers! I am even more convinced now that being able to field fresh players is key. We hit a little bit of a slump in that month, but still won 5 out of 8 games in the league! And what stood out to me was this: in most games I was playing at this stage in the season, my players were consistently fresher and lasted longer during the 90 minutes then my opposition. As a consequence, we scored in the 89th+ minute in 3 different games during this month.

After that our form improved, only dropping points here and there. Where we were hovering around 6th-7th position at the start of the year, we now were climbing fast, and by the end of the season we were challenging Hereford, who had been topping the league almost all season, sometimes with quite a margin as well!

We had a slightly easier program with 4 games to go, and two points bonus to boot. I feared my team were going to struggle with the pressure, and they did, but the lads at Hereford managed the same problem worse than we did. We ended up winning the league in convincing manner by 5 points to end with a clean 100 points in our 150th year in football! What a way to celebrate that occasion! And I won the manager of the year award!

Cups

Not much to report here. In the FA cup, we beat who we were expected to beat, and lost to who was expected to beat us, going out to league one club Doncaster in the 1st round. Same story in the FA trophy, although I was a bit disappointed here. York, who only play one league up from us, and struggling bad at that, felt like a challenge we could rise up to. Alas, they thoroughly trounced us and actually gave us the biggest and most convincing beating we received all season. York City stayed up, so we’ll be looking for revenge for sure.

Highlighted players

Ciaran Gilligan - Rowan McDonald left the club after only playing one game in the season. And what a way to go out on. I was basically forced to let him go. I honestly thought his leaving the club doomed our season, such was his impact on the squad. But barely a few days after McDonald had left, Ciaran agreed to a contract. He saved our season, immediately filling the gap left by our former star player. He broke the assist records for our club, and easily was a big reason why we got promoted. Wants to leave for a bigger club now, but this time, I’m not having it. He’s indispensable as far as I’m concerned.

DJ Campton-Sturridge - Yes! Related to that Sturridge! A bit inconsistent, but still young. Started to bang them in for fun towards the end of the season. Not sure how good he is or is going to be. I see him miss some spectacularly easy looking chances during games quite frequently…

Some funny things

Wants to join a bigger club … joins Grantham?  From Hull City league one to vanarama north hmm.

Board expectations … We’re expecting to fight against relegation … playing like 2010’s Barcelona?

Thank god ... lord knows how much this would've cost!

Season started well, we found a solid 3 at the back system that worked with our players and picked up a range of excellent results, picked up some really good free players after shopping around through the premier league and championship cast-offs. As with the challenge i often find the first season or 2 pretty straightforward with a settled squad and a clear and cohesive formation and this time was no different. We did ok in the cups and earnt a few quid, but more importantly we destroyed the league and secured promotion at the first time of asking. The trick will be now to carry that form into next season and get ourselves into the league proper.

Club seems really supportive, I've gone through b and c licenses already and we've applied to expand the stadium. Things are looking good going forward.

Biggleswade Town FC 2023-24 (Season 2)

Season Review

Vanarama National League North

Table   Fixtures

We got promotion! We had the title by one point going into the final match of the season after a tie in the penultimate. And of course we gave up a 95” goal to lose the title on GD. Now we have to go through the playoff battle. Not starting strong with my poacher missing his first penalty all season! But at the 22” he makes up for it blasting the ball in from the 6 yard box and that is it, we win 1-0. We are into the final against Basford. For whatever reason my offense couldn’t deliver except for my loaned CB/RB hitting two headers in on corners for us to clinch the playoff victory 2-1. With only 4 goals on the season for him, he got them when it counted.

FA Cup & FA Trophy

We did awful, but that's fine as we didn't have the players for all the games that would come from a good run.

Transfers

Brought in 4 key starters from Premier League youth programs:

GK Ovie Ejehri from Arsenal was solid between the posts

CM Mathaeus Roberts also form Arsenal was our mezzala

CM Ethan Burnett from Southampton was the other half of the CM pair

F DJ Campton-Sturridge from Aston Villa was the absolute steal of a pick up this season. Getting 33 goals and 8 assists in 45 league games he contributed half our goals of the season and had 2nd for VN-N league goals.  IMO he's about as good a poacher you can expect at this level w/o cheesing a loan out of a top level club.

Halfway through I picked up a 36 year old CB who was crucial when my starter broke his ankle. As he is a model Citizen I plan on getting him into a staff roll soon.

At the end of the season I picked up 7 youth players on non-contracts from premier league clubs. Next update we will see who stays and makes an impact.

Squad

We got by with a very limited squad due to finances, and it will be just as tight next year. While i'll be holding onto my key players I do plan to let all the loans go and see what new blood is available in the off season.

Finances

Next season I'll actually be trying for a cup run as we are starving for some dollars. With an avg attendance of 398 we make next to nothing from league games.

Manager Thoughts

We had a good season, we will see if we can continue it one tier higher while hopefully making back some of the large losses. Still haven't gotten any coaching badges or upgrades, which isn't that big of an issue yet as I get new players every year. But soon it will be...

Season 4 - Vanarama National - 3rd

image.png.7dc6a07eccd2e3570716a136f4433cac.png

Few transfers in and out by comparison to previous years as board finally let me sign multi-year contracts over the summer. Struggled to find a VNL quality striker but eventually Swansea loaned me one, he ended up scoring 27. Two players who wouldn't sign in July eventually came around by September when they were still unattached and were amongst our key players. We hung around in the playoffs spots all season and secured 3rd with a draw in the final matchday, though based on other results it didn't matter; we would've been third regardless. In the playoff semi-final we had a quite boring time; the only thing listed in notable events was our free kick goal which saw us going to Wembley to play Southend. Although they finished 2nd, we had drawn 0-0 and won 1-0 in the two meetings this year. Unfortunately the final was a typical non-league game; our CB who was in the running for Player of the Year missed two headers which led to goals, and though we pushed to get back into the game, we could only get one goal from a deflected shot. Obviously the players still think we are favourites to be relegated again next year, but with a few key signings I think we should be around the playoffs again. We return 10 of the starting XI, including another loan for our top goalscorer, but I would love to add depth and improve at RB+LB. Bank balance is looking good thanks to the money from the final, but I'm not asking for facilities until we are professional; seems a waste to improve facilities if the players are still part-timers.

Morpeth Town - Part 3 - Foundations

Season 9 - 2030/31 - Premier League - 10th

Table - Best XI

We certainly made some progress this season, though it was largely unspectacular. The full £30m budget was used on reinforcing the squad, and I would say on the whole a very good window, though frustratingly the bigger splashes were underwhelming but this was made up for by some fantastic signings for under a million - Nicolas Galvan, AM(C), free from Velez, 6 goals 8 assists; Nicolas Sotelo, D(C), £350k from Deportes Tolima, 2 goals and 7.24 rating, now worth over £50m; Louis Crane, ST(C), £800k from Hearts, 12 goals 2 assists. Rather than go into detail all the transfers of these 3 seasons I will just do a general squad overview at the end.

Our big prospect striker, Jackson Higgins, was very disappointing, finishing up with just 5 league goals and losing his starting spot to the cheap backup.

Season 10 - 2031/32 - Premier League - 11th

Table - Best XI

The day we moved into the new stadium, I immediately convinced the board to expand it. We sold out every week at an 18k seater a few hundred miles away so this 15k build back home did not cut the mustard.

I really thought I'd nailed this window, filling in all the obvious gaps and throwing some money around. We spent around £70m in the summer, mostly on players in the £15-20m range, as well as a couple of loans including a very highly rated Liverpool youngster, but nothing really worked out (a few of the younger ones got better in the next season though at least). In the winter, we did make a good move, selling our backup keeper for £15m and getting an improvement on our starting keeper with a bit of change leftover. Higgins was again awful, scoring just once before being sent out on loan midway through the year.

Despite dropping a place in the league, we did improve on our points tally a little bit. This was also a good season in the cups as we reached the semis in both (EFL Cup - 0-5 and 2-2 v Chelsea, FA Cup - 0-3 v Liverpool). Devastatingly, Sunderland obliterated our bad discipline record, totalling 153 yellows and 14 reds - they also beat Derby's record, finishing the season with 4 points (0-4-34).

Season 11 - 2032/33 - Premier League - 5th

Table - Best XI

Due to the stadium expansion we were yet again turfed out of our own home, sharing with Middlesbrough until the renovations were complete in late March.

We had a budget of around £60m, but this was the first season good players were willing to talk to us and so our net spend was closer to £100m as I went a bit overboard in installments etc (£180m on incomings and outgoings of £80m - almost half of that from Galvan who is the only one that was missed). A bit of a risk, but one that clearly payed off. Ahead of the winter window, the club was bought by businessman Henry Ludlam - who made £55m floating us on the stock market and then only put £3m into the budget, so we did nothing of note in January.

I was very impressed by the team this season as we stormed to a Europa League place. A run of 4 difficult games threatened to disrail the season in November (losing 4-0, 7-3, 5-1 and 3-2 to Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd respectively) but we bounced back fantastically, going on a run of 8 wins.

The Future

Making the Europa League is a fantastic achievement, but also very much deserved for how we played and I would be very disappointed to not qualify for one of the European competitions again next season. We were in the race for top 4 very late on but dropped away only in the last few games.

The big clubs are still on another level right now - we lost very few games to teams outside them and only won a handful from teams in this group - but I'm hopeful some will drop away soon. While Man City and Chelsea are stacked with incredible players in their mid-20s, Liverpool and Man Utd are a few years away from needing to rebuild. Haaland scored 56 goals and got 4 assists in the league for Liverpool this season and is now 32, while a 34 year old Mbappe got 32 goals 20 assists for the red devils. Newcastle are still rich and this years 16th placed finish is a huge outlier following Isak's departure - they have perhaps the best striker regen in the game now and will certainly bounce back. Arsenal and Spurs' squad strengths are a long way short of the others right now.

We are again expanding the ground, this time just a slightly reduced capacity for a few months thankfully.

I'm yet to plan what our priorities are in the upcoming window, but I have managed to increase/remove the more concerning of the release clauses in our players contracts.

Squad Overview

Goalkeeper Ademir has been with us for 18 months, joining from Palmeiras because Dortmund bought our understudy goalie.

Nicolas Sotelo is the key man at the heart of defence, and Kevin Nsakala has slotted in nicely as his partner this season (£24m, Brugges). Our full backs are very young and raw but could be world class one day - Eleuterio Loera (£8m, Club America) and Jan Hajek (£5.5m, Slavia Prague).

Dragoslav Antunov (£5.5m, Red Star) is perhaps our best wonderkid - he is usually partnered by Marcelo Torres (£25m, Stoke) who was the only disappointment of the season just gone. Sitting ahead of them in the attacking midfield role is Nelson Loyola (£1.3m, Colo Colo), our leading assister.

Michel van Dalfsen (£21m, PSV) was signed mainly as a wing option, but has often had to cover up front and ended up our top scorer. Ivan (£30m, Wolfsburg) remains our top choice up front for now. Our other wing options are Markos Moukidis (£16m, Olympiakos) and Didi (£32.5m, Sao Paulo) have also been game-changers this year as this is the position we have most struggled to recruit well in since reaching the top flight.

Honourable mentions from those that have left - Louis Crane and Nicolas Galvan.

After completing this challenge in FM21 about 12 hours before full release of FM22, I wasn't sure whether or not I would try this again, or another challenge.  In the end, I decided to run two concurrent saves --- including this one.  This year, I narrowed the choice down to 4 of the 69 teams I ultimately found during the two weeks of holidaying during the beta:  Bishop's Stortford, Kings' Langley, Grantham, and Radcliffe.

In the end, I chose Radcliffe FC.

471100670_FootballManager202211_9_202117_43_07.thumb.png.5adbda22c26df4cceb544c35d7d508e1.png

The first season went well enough --- very well considering I started the save w/ 4 points from my first 10 matches.  However, the team finally gelled --- either new signings fitting in, or tactical familiarity improving, or a combination of the two; regardless, in the end, we finished a solid 10th place and with hope of improving to at least a playoff spot in season two.

684121516_FootballManager202211_20_202122_10_39.thumb.png.d4384cab30d9fbf0ef9e40141fd9ca45.png

Of interest, we hadn't gone a dozen matches before the first of many takeover rumors surfaced -- however, in the end, nothing changed.   Our owners at least are able to help out --- I managed to start my first coaching badge almost immediately (In FM21 Leiston save, it was 4 years before I was allowed to pursue my first).  They also pumped in £140K (£50K midseason, and another £90K late) to ensure we had a positive balance at the end of season One.

Here's hoping to a solid Season Two, and perhaps a chance to escape to the VNL a season or two (or three) earlier than we did with FM21 Leiston!

So I am doing this again though with a more difficult team.  I have already played half a season but waited before posting to make sure I stuck with the save.

End of Season Review

Season 2022/23

Kings Langley

Kings Langley F.C. - Wikipedia

Season Summary

A season of triumph where we won the league title and promotion on the final day and were runners up in the F. A. Trophy.

Season Details

League Table - The title went right down to the wire and the final game.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - A slow start though we soon found our feet and rose up the table.

F. A. Cup - A great cup run that was ended at the third round stage as we lost at home to Championship side Stoke City

F. A. Trophy - We made it through to the final, though did our best to throw away a 5-1 first leg lead in the semi final.  We played well in the final though were outclassed by Harrogate Town, having to settle as runners up.

Pre Season Friendlies - A mixed bag of results, though we got some great match experience against much bigger clubs.

Squad - We have a good nucleus of players and with the right additions, we can challenge again.

Squad Dynamics - It is lovely.

Transfers In 1 & 2 - As usual, I overhauled the squad, bringing in plenty of free transfers and loans.

Transfers Out - A few departures, all of whom were fringe players.  We even secured a transfer fee for one of them.

Youth Candidates - A very poor intake with Swedish left back Mohammad Mahmoud supposedly the standout player.  No one will be offered professional terms.

Finances - Thanks to the F. A. Trophy run, we made a profit this year and finished in the black.

Key Players

Sam McClelland - A full international for Northern Ireland, the central defender had an incredible season.

Ben Elliott - Cameroonian who can play either in central midfield or in the anchor role.

Josh Brooking - Versatile defender who was usually deployed at right back.

Dominic Revan - Playing at either centre back or left back, he was magnificent for the entire campaign.

Ben Wilson - The Northern Irish Under 21 international can play on either wing or up front and he was utilised in all three positions.

Next Season

Can we challenge again?

2025/26

League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - a stunning season, but to get over 100 points and promotion and not win the title shows you how good Swansea were.

FA Cup - Fixtures - up to the 5th round where Brighton defeated us

EFL Cup - Fixtures - pretty poor exit in the first round at Forest Green

EFL Trophy - Fixtures - finally shot of this

Finances - decent enough, I am trying to get youth levels upgraded

Transfers - usual changes, sold some players

Squad

Key players:

Viljami Sinisalo - ex Villa Finnish keeper was with Oldham in the National League for a bit but proved capable of League football

Taj Sodje - prolific once more

Bright Enobakhare - experienced striker

Marques Muir - solid ex Spurs defender

Iestyn Hughes - good at right back again

Divin Mubama - also prolific

Max Melbourne - great left back

Future: another surprise promotion but we need to stay in this division for a bit.  Our stadium expansion was scrapped for some reason but it seems our expansion limit is below the minimum in the Premier League so a groundshare is on the horizon.

Vanarama National North - 12th - 66points

Although we exceeded expectations by finishing mid-table things were not always smooth sailing, at some point relegation was almost certain until a signing came and changed everything. Next season the board expects a top-half finish by playing possession football lol.

93845CDCDFE9E4360BE79B4530CF6EC2C97FE3C5 (1920×1080)

Emmanuel Dieseruvwe saved this club (and my job!) by coming in mid January (when we were as low as 17th, a few points away from the relegation zone) and scoring 12 goals, 5 assists and earning 3 POM awards in the remaining 23 appearances.

B2874F8487630DA5A47DC60250CEB29299A35677 (1920×1080)

Former Arsenal Tim Akinola was also a crucial player for us.

We scored 67 goals (3 less than Boston Utd that placed 4th) but we conceeded 68 (in range of what teams in the relegation zone conceeded)... not that hard to figure out where we need to be stronger next season! ;)

Already made a few signings to improve the defense, let's see where that takes us.

Season 5 - Vanarama National - 6th

image.png.7dc6a07eccd2e3570716a136f4433cac.png

First step backwards. Team was better overall but couldn't stop anyone from scoring for fun from corners. More than half were the same thing, back post corner where the player was marked but the defender stood still and another player (usually the guy on far post) would try to win the header. We'll blame the poor standard of player, but this might be something where we need some help from a higher power ;) . Ended up with 3 points less than last year, very inconsistent form. In the playoff first round we got a close 2-1 win, in the semifinal we didn't have any real attacking chance and they scored from a corner (surprise) and defended well for the final 45 minutes. Not sure how we will do next year, lots of players on expiring deals that I have to consider and our top scorer who has been here on loan most likely won't be returning since he's coming to the end of his contract and is on a higher wage than we can offer. Haven't had a deep dive into who is being released this year, but most of the scouting reports I had for expiring players had them pegged at Van North/South level. Will also probably try to adjust tactics over summer break; we scored joint 3rd most goals but were bottom half defensively.

Kings Langley- Season 4 - 1st season League 1

After finally finding our  stride in mid-season, we coasted to the Crown in League 1.  It was a tumultuous season, as the Board sold Mauro Bandeira (loaned back to finish the season) and our best young player- DC Jed Mair (loaned back to finish the season) out from under me without any say. I was rightly upset as the bids for the two were nowhere near their true worth (700K and 525K repectively). Also leaving was Kyle Hudlin as we again ran afoul of FFP and in a tough decision, I couldn't turn down a decent offer for him- despite the fact he had 9 goals and 4 MOM at the time we sold him.  This FFP is very nasty, considering we had the lowest (by far) salary in League 1 and the three top Coventry players out-waged our entire squad on a weekly basis.

It was a team effort  as our scoring came from everywhere- Ricky Jade-Jones (17 goals), Layton Stewart (17), Bartoz Cybulski (14), Victor Sodeinde (12), Armstrong Oko-Felix (9), Marcelo Flores (8) and Arsenal-loanee Callum williams (8).  Oko-Felix had 15 assists and Aden Mesias had 13. Other key players were Zach Awe, Taylor Foran, Hugo Bueno, Jack Scott, Tim Iroebungam and of course our stellar Keeper Aaron Maguire.  Our backline is up in the air and will need addressing in the summer as Awe is not likely to be loaned back and I am unsure if we can sign him if he is let out of contract by Watford. Mair might come back on loan, but that is still up in the air.

End of Season Review

Season 2023/24

Kings Langley

Kings Langley F.C. - Wikipedia

Season Summary

A very tight season that went down to the final ten minutes.  Promotion was secured though there was no repeat last season's F. A. Trophy cup run.

Season Details

League Table - It was such a tight title race, with two games remaining, four clubs could of won the league and secured automatic promotion.  With ten minutes of the season remaining, we were missing out on promotion by one point, but then Harrogate conceded and we won the league title and secured promotion to the Football League.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We were excellent up until the new year and then we struggled somewhat.  We did recapture our best form, however.

F. A. Cup - We reached the third round again, before losing at home to top flight side Crystal Palace.

F. A. Trophy - There was to be no repeat of last years run to the final as a surprising home defeat to Eastbourne Boro, who play in the league below us, eliminated us at the fifth round stage.

Pre Season Friendlies - It was another set of tough pre season games, thirteen of them in fact and I was delighted we only lost twice, both to Championship outfits.

Squad - We have a strong squad, though need some key improvements to enable another promotion push.

Squad Dynamics - It is a thing of beauty.

Transfers In 1 & 2 - Quite a few free transfers were brought in as we struggled with injuries and suspensions, though no loan signings were made.

Transfers Out - Our first six figure transfer fee was acquired and some other young players were sold with sell on clauses.

Youth Candidates - Scottish attacking midfielder Scott McLennan is supposed the best player among another pretty poor bunch.

Finances - We are in the black, though only just.

Key Players

Sam McClelland - Not as regular a starter as last season, he was nonetheless as reliable as ever.

Dominic Revan - Another sublime season from the defender.

Josh Eppiah - Arguably the best footballer at the club, though he didn't always play as well as he should.

Max McKnight - Teenage right back signed on a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur who slotted straight into the side.

Finn Azaz - Central midfielder who could be excellent on his day.  He has a tendency to disappear during games, however.

Next Season

I am not sure.  With four promotion spots, I would like to go up again, but financial fair play may restrict who we can bring in.

Haringey Borough

Season 2 - 2023/2024 - 1st National League - Table

Easy peasy. Kept a similar team to the Conference South and kept going in the same vein. Tweaked the tactics away from a 4-3-3 narrow to a 4-3-1-2 narrow which allowed me to get both Ateef Konaté and Max Robson in my team and wrecking havoc. Other additions were Matthew Craig and top-scorer DJ Campton-Sturridge.

Season 3 - 2024/2025 - 5th League 2 - Table - xG

Not so easy peasy. I kept a very similar team to the year before, as well as the same shape/tactic and things started very promisingly, romping to the top of the league where we stayed until our 3rd round FA Cup loss away at Reading. Everything seemed to fall apart from there, as the xG demonstrates, we were almost always better than the opposition but we'd miss several good shots and then concede random long shots. We slumped to 5th and lost 3-0 on aggregate to Gillingham in the playoffs, a tie where we again had better xG and all the chances but lost to a penalty and two free kicks. The core of the team that got us up from the Conference South has gone as far as they can I think. In particular, our goalkeeper and forward line are nowhere near good enough if we want to get promoted unfortunately. I think this year I'll finally make large changes to the team and we'll see where we go - maybe recruiting some wingers to change shape would help.

Statement From The Chairman

SEASON TWO (2023-24)

A promising end of first season, as well as a couple important additions to the squad, sent us soaring into the second season with a ton of hope.  In season one, the team had attained only 4 points thru the first 10 matches.  In Season two, we had picked up nearly four times that number, with 15 points (and a worrying 6 draws) in the first 10 matches.  However, the team picked up steam as we progressed thru the season.  By mid-season, we were solidly entrenched in a playoff battle, and by the mid-point of the season (Matchday 23), we never left the playoff zones.

In the end, in a bit of a let-off, we would finish fourth in a solid 2nd season.  The playoffs saw us see of Leamington at home by a score of 2-1, with an early (9th minute) goal being cancelled by a 28th minute strike, before SS Elliott gave us the lead for good just before the hour mark.  That win sent us to an away match vs Chester, where a 120 minute goalless draw sent us to a penalty shootout which we won on the 6th shot of the shootout.  The final was just as nervous, as an early goal by Hereford held until the 86th minute before Radcliffe top-scorer Tom Fielding popped up at the far post to equalize.  Despite being outshot 22-13, we managed another extra-time draw (and went down to 10 men during that period), leading to yet another penalty shootout.  Level at 4 apiece, standout keeper saved Hereford's fifth shot, giving us a jolt of energy....however, Hereford keeper also saved playoff match one's hero Elliott... putting us into a sudden-death situation yet again.  And, keeper McMahon came up big on kick 6, reading the kick perfectly up the center and stretching tall to claim the ball.  That left it to midfielder Nolan, who sent the keeper the wrong way and sent Radcliffe into the VNL, and the fans into an ecstatic stampede onto the pitch.

The undoubted hero of the season was DC Jorge Sikora --- towering defence, with 10 goals and an assist to his credit, he was nominated fans player of the year, young player of the year, signing of the season....and I expect some league accolades as we get thru the end of the season as well.  He anchored a 2nd place overall defensive effort (both 2nd in goals conceded and 2nd in clean sheets for the team).  He'll definitely be a fixture in the coming season as well (despite a CA of only good VNLN) I expect he'll do well enough in the VNL.  GK George McMahon played his part as well, and played hero in the shootouts of the playoffs in addition to keeping a team record for clean-sheets (record set at 20) while conceding only 49 goals (39 league, 10 cup).  With the potential of being a GOOD VNL, he certainly is set for another season.   In the midfield, set-piece specialist Marcus Maddison  certainly played his role well, as most of his 13 assists came from set-pieces (we ended w/ 9 goals from corners, 3 from DFK, and 5 from IFK).  A couple more could be added to his tally as his set-piece play was converted after a 2nd or 3rd touch by another player --- and he is another confirmed to be staying around another season.  Finally, top scorer, a familiar name for me (as I had him on the team in my FM20 save as well) Tom Fielding found the net 17 times in 33(14) appearances to lead the team (16 league, 1 cup).  He is another confirmed to be available for another season - however, I'm hoping to find another to pair alongside him (and eventually ascend to the #1 spot).  Perhaps top grad Bigger Kinsombi will be that player?  Time will tell.

As far as developments for the coming season -- so far I have 8 contracts tied up, with another 3 probably re-signing.  I will have to evaluate the rest of the team to find the best to sign as rotation/backup players, and fill the rest of the spots with new signings.  The chairman has indicated he is retiring, so a takeover is imminent.  And, the city council have blocked the required stadium expansion, so we'll be stuck (somewhat) for at least the coming year with what we have.  With the chairman intending to retire, no new investments have been made this year, so we finish the season in the red (debt of £122K).  Hopefully that will be wiped out with a new board.

I decided to give this challenge a go again - tried it back in FM 2019 with Worthing FC (didn't document it on the forums though) and did pretty well until the second season in the Championship, when frustration due to poor results and pressure from the board took over and I abandoned it.

This time, by pure chance, Worthing actually got promoted in my first and only intended holiday session, so I'm installing myself as the head coach of The Mackerel Men (dope nickname not gonna lie) yet again, this time with hopes of actually completing the challenge.

Manager Profile - Board Expectations - Starting Squad - Season Preview

So it looks like Worthing seemingly have a squad capable of safely avoiding relegation as is, with one of the players, the left-back Patrick Webber, even included in the media dream eleven (although his contract is running out in a few days; probably should try to tie him up for the foreseeable future).

Financially, the side is in the black, although not with a lot of money in the bank, but quite a lot of wage budget is still available and there's even a small amount in the transfer budget which I'll likely just convert into wages anyway.

The squad itself is quite small and appears to be lacking in all areas besides the goalkeeping position. There are a few players in the Under-23s team who I'll take a closer look at and see if any of them are worth a spot in the senior squad. Adrian Dainty is highlighted as the best youth prospect the club have at the moment, and honestly, I do like the look of him, but he's clearly still far off the first team or the bench.

The board put the pressure on me from the get-go by expecting a mid-table finish in the first season; hopefully I'll manage that at least.

EDIT: scratch that remark about the goalkeeping position being filled - I only just noticed that both of them are 16 and basically not of the standard I'm looking for. Guess a busy transfer window is incoming.

Radcliffe FC 2023-24 Season Review

Decent season, really consistent in the league, breaking all sorts of records and hitting the front early and just not letting up... struggled in the middle a bit with a few draws etc... but that was around Christmas when the injuries and fitness always become an issue. Didn't get much out of the cups, but then that might have been a blessing as we kicked on to convincingly take the title. Found it tricky to get the 3 at the back to fire all season and regularly dropped to a 4222 with DMs and wingers which helped us against the more attacking sides, but generally our 2 strikers did the business - nearly 60goals between them and the rest were based on solid set pieces and a 192cm centre-back with 15 jumping :D

Sold our first player for £30k and loaned him back for free for the rest of the season

Bought our first player for £10k and he helped shore up our midfield.

Gainsborough Trinity - Season 2022/23 - National League North - 5th

Season Review - A good season to start off the save. I wasn't expecting to make the playoffs but ultimately fell short which is probably a fair result. If this is how we go forward the future could well be a bright one.

League - (Fixtures 1) (Fixtures 2) (Positions)

It was a decent season to say the least. A strong finish confirmed our playoff place.

Playoffs - A decent show against Kettering, along with our strong form, got the hopes up. Chester had other ideas and we crashed back down to Earth. No dream end to the season.

Cups - (FA Cup) (FA Trophy)

Coming at a time when the team and tactics where still coming together we weren't able to make it out of qualifying.

Transfers - The squad had some good players to form a core of the team, all it took was the usual first season splurge to fill out the other positions.

Finances - Having a board that is willing to put money in really helps the overall picture.

Youth News -
Intake - (1) (2) - I was promised a decent striker and feel that it has been delivered. Happy to have some home grown back ups at the very least, even if they will fall away quickly as we hopefully go up the leagues.

PromotionsChristian GilroyJarrad Morris

Key Players -
Top Scorer - Liam Henderson - Needed a tweak to the tactic to get the goals flowing but our most experienced player had a good season up front.

Top Assist - George Hornshaw - I was hoping to make him the main man in the middle and I think I have managed to achieve that.

Any other business - England lost to Italy in the World Cup Final. FM shows that Villa were wrong to sack Dean Smith IRL as he leads them into the Champions League as Premier League runners up.

Looking Forward - A good first season and I think we have an identity to build on. I'm happy with the squad and the board's decision to almost double the wage budget will help strengthen in weak areas as well.

Season 6 - Vanarama National - 6th (promoted)

image.png.7dc6a07eccd2e3570716a136f4433cac.png

Into the playoffs for the third straight year, and after finishing with 83 points two seasons ago and 80 last season we settled for 82 this year. The style was completely different; after a slow start with our old tactics I completely abandoned our previous attacking play to settle for more defensive responsibility. My thought process was that we were unlikely to win the league with the number of points we had already dropped so I needed something that could give us a better chance in the playoffs. We started grinding out a lot of 0-0, 1-0, 0-1, 1-1 results and by the end of the year the team that had finished joint 3rd in goals and bottom half defensively last season was now 14th in goals scored and led the league in clean sheets. Our last game of the season prior to the playoffs was against Stevenage away and they managed to beat us 0-1. We would play them again in the playoff first round, where we ground out a boring 0-0 over 120 minutes where we mustered 0 shots on target and neither team reached 1 xG. Pens went our way as their second and fourth penalties were saved and despite our third hitting the post the final penalty was smashed in. The semifinal saw us take a lead just 7 minutes in and settle into our defensive shell to attempt to hold for the final 80+ minutes. We managed to hold for 78 more instead as they got an 85th minute equalizer. All attempts to muster any sort of attack were fruitless for us, but despite being open to shots against they couldn't score so penalties again. I thought I would be smart and put the player who missed last game first and he missed again. With a chance to win the game on the 5th spot kick, our goalkeeper made a huge save and we continued on for an eternity before winning on the 9th kick; a save by our keeper and a top effort by our best player according to average rating; a non-contract CB whose only real skill is being able to jump high. The final had a fraction of the penalty drama; we were awarded one in the 21st minute which was converted and by the end of the game our keeper only had to make 1 save as the new defensive tactic and training did its job.

With the ascension to the football league comes professional status. A lot will need to be done over the summer; we are losing a CM who made 47 appearances (unhappy at club) our starting GK (retirement) and have expiring deals for another number of players who underperformed. Whether they come back will be determined by what Welsh free agents I have lined up by early June. A staff overhaul may be coming as well. With the move to full-time I may finally see some actual development for the players so I would like to set them up for success in the coaching department.

League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - at one stage we had a surprise push for automatic promotion, but fell down into the play-offs.  Although we got to the final we were stuffed 4-0 by Leeds, a blessing in disguise really.

FA Cup - Fixtures - good run to the 5th round where Villa knocked us out

EFL Cup - Fixtures - a 3rd round exit at home to Spurs

Finances - much better, thank you solidarity payments.  I am gradually upgrading our weak facilities.

Transfers - a few sales including Max Melbourne out for £700k

Squad

Key players:

Viljami Sinisalo - continues to be great, will hopefully get his first Finnish cap soon

Taj Sodje - still scoring

Marques Muir - still solid

Iestyn Hughes - great from the right back again

Divin Mubama - with us from the National League and still has an eye for goal

Marko Vucic - I paid a reasonable fee for the Montenegrin left back after selling Melbourne for a decent chunk

Daijiro Chirino - versatile Dutchman previously of PEC Zwolle

Future: a season or two of consolidation in the division is needed.

End of Season Review

Season 2024/25

Kings Langley

Kings Langley F.C. - Wikipedia

Season Summary

Another season of promotion, though we did have our moments.  An excellent F. A. Cup run was also a highlight.

Season Details

League Table - We were always in the promotion hunt, though it hurt to lose the league title on the final day of the season.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We were on course for promotion before a dreadful March, where out fixture backlog caught up with us, put this in jeopardy.  We finally found our form in the closing stages to secure promotion as runners up.

F. A. Cup - Our best cup run to date as we made it through to the fifth round, before being absolutely hammered at home by Liverpool, who beat us 8-1.

Carabao Cup - A poor performance at home to Championship side MK Dons saw the club eliminated at the first hurdle, the first round.

Papa John's Trophy - After winning our group by winning all three league games, we progressed to the quarter final before we lost a narrow game away to League One outfit Ipswich Town.

Pre Season Friendlies - We did lose three games in a tough pre season campaign.  The wins over Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers were the obvious highlight.

Squad - We have a good nucleus, though a lot more quality is required to progress to the next level.

Squad Dynamics - As marvellous as you would expect.

Transfers In 1 & 2 - It was difficult to strengthen as much as I wanted due to our low budgets, though we did ok and managed to bring in some quality players, mainly on loan.

Transfers Out 1 & 2 - Quite a few departures, including three players for six figure transfer fees.

Youth Candidates - Another poor intake with only one player being offered a professional contract, left back Richie Jeffries YP25A1.

Finances - We made a small profit this season, largely down to the cup run, though we are still forecast to drop into the red in due course.

Key Players

Sam McClelland - The defender was once again a regular in the starting eleven and his game rose accordingly.

Josh Eppiah - He scored so many goals this season and won many games on his own.

Max McKnight - Playing as our right back, the twenty year old was superb.

Liam Walsh - The experienced central midfielder was an absolute revelation .

Alfie Gilchrist - Twenty one year old central defender signed on loan from Chelsea for the campaign, he was our best player.

Next Season

A season of consolidation is on the cards.

End of Season Review

Season 2025/26

Kings Langley

Kings Langley F.C. - Wikipedia

Season Summary

A season of achievement as we finished in the promotion playoffs.  We were not very good in the cups, however.

Season Details

League Table - By mid November we were in the top six, which changed to the bottom six just ten games later.  We recovered to finish

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We were in and around the playoffs until December, where we had a dreadful winless run.  We did turn it around and qualified for the playoffs.

Promotion Playoffs - A poor performance in the home leg left us too much to do in the return, as Coventry City won the semi final by five goals to three on aggregate.

F. A. Cup - There was no repeat of last seasons heroics as we lost to fellow League One outfit Blackburn Rovers after a replay, losing at Ewood Park.

Carabao Cup - It was another first round exit as Championship side Crystal Palace hammered us 5-1 at home.

Papa John's Trophy - We once again won all three group games to finish top of our group and we progressed to the semi final, before an away game at Lincoln City proved too much, as we went down by one goal to nil.

Pre Season Friendlies - I organised another tough pre season campaign that involved thirteen matches and it was pleasing that we only lost twice.

Squad - We over achieved this season, so I need to have a better transfer window to challenge again.

Squad Dynamics - Considering we had a more difficult season, this is still really good.

Transfers In 1 & 2 - It was very hard to bring in the players I identified as a lot preferred moves elsewhere, though we did strengthen and I made full use of the loan market.  I am yet to spend a penny in transfer fees.

Transfers Out 1 & 2 - Over £1m was brought in, in player sales, including our first ever £500,000 sale.

Youth Candidates - It was another poor intake, where no one has been offered a professional contract.  Left back Lee Albrighton-McPherson is supposed to be the pick of the group.

Finances - We are in the black, largely due to player sales, so we need to find some new revenue streams.

Key Players

Sam McClelland - The central defender continues to improve and his performances rise with it.

Liam Walsh - He is still dictating games in central midfield.

Alfie Gilchrist - His loan was turned into a permanent move as he signed on a free transfer and he didn't disappoint, having an excellent season.

Josh Martin - Signed on a free transfer, the central midfielder is our best player and performed like it too.

Romulo Jose - Versatile loanee who I usually deployed in the anchor man role, he signed on loan for the season from Sporting Lisbon and was exceptional.

Next Season

Another promotion playoff place would be great.
