TerminalPortugal
I am bringing this challenge back for a third year and fourth iteration. Last time around my game crashed so bad that I still cannot play FM22, so hopefully this time around we may be able to complete it this around. For those uninitiated, back in FM20, I started this challenge which was to travel around the world using modded leagues added into the game in a sort of ultimate journeyman, where we net to conquer each stage by winning trophies that have pre-allocated points associated with them. Each stage would only have a few countries available and we would need to plot a way to maximise the number of points. In this save I went over 130 years completing a variety of countries before eventually instead of the save failed me, the computer itself failed me and I believe the save was lost forever, only the memory remaining on these boards. I decided to bring it back for FM22, and while we manage to complete a whole continent, this time the save failed us, as we arrived in North America and once again I was thwarted. Then I did one with just base leagues and a long way down the road when we had already reached Europe we had this save and game ending crash. For those who did not read the other threads they are here for posterity should you wish to partake in them Climb The Ladder 1 Climb The Ladder 2 Climb The Ladder 2.1 I will go over the rules again and provide the amendments as well. Ruleset How do you get points? You get points by winning trophies plain and simple. Depending on the trophy they are worth different amounts. The following is a guide of what each trophy is worth Top Division Domestic League title (100 points) Top Domestic Cup (50 points) Any other Domestic Cup (30 points) Top Continental Cup (500 points) Secondary Continental Cup (200 points) Any other Continental Cup (50 points) If there is any confusion as to what the main cup is, then I will just make a call at the start as to what the top trophy is, if I cannot verify it within the game. Can you lose points? Yes, you can lose points. There are two ways to lose points as below:- Being relegated at any time at a club or leaving a club for any reason at a time when you are in the relegation places (-50 points) Being sacked or resigning under pressure i.e. if there are comments in the media that I will be sacked then if I resigned it will be treated as a sacking (-100 points) Any more rules around the points? Yes, and this is a key point. The first time you win a trophy with a club, you receive 100 per cent of the available points as stated above. However the second time that we manage to win it in the same trophy with the same club, the points are then halved, and it will continue to half for every time we win that follows. So to give an example, let says that I am managing Liverpool and I win the English Premier League and English League Cup, I would receive 100 points for the league and 30 points for the League Cup. If in the second season I won the English Premier League, the FA Cup and The English League Cup, then we would get 50 points for the league, 50 points for the FA Cup and 15 points for the League Cup. If in the third season we won the English Premier League again, then it would only be worth 25 points. So as you can see we will be incentivized to plan our route through each stage and move on when it makes sense to do so. There is an exception to the halving of points. All continental competitions are never halved, even if we win it with the same team multiple times. How many points are required to get through a stage? There are two types of stage. The first are the normal stages whereby there are normally 3 or 4 nations loaded for the stage and we can pick a club at any of them. In these stages we need to win 500 points, to advance to the next stage. In Golden stages, which are normally at the end of the continent and will only have one country available we will need to win 1,500 points to get through the stage (previously it was 1,000 points required for the golden stages). In the diagram below, normal stages are in a variety of colours related to the continent they are part of. Golden stages are have a golden glow and have a gold inlay line around them on the diagram and should be easily identifiable. Who is the manager you will be using? The manager will be from a random nationality. I will use a random number generator to give me the nationality. The manager must then start with no coaching badges and Sunday League experience. So I still don't know who my avatar will be. How often will you be providing updates? As you can see from the diagram, this is a major challenge, that will last at least a few hundred years if I get anywhere near the middle or end of it. So each update will be a seasonal update, and focus mostly on results rather than players, since there will be many many different clubs. The other time I will update is when we switch clubs, and that will let you know the results at the last club before we moved. Where do we start? We start at AFC6 at the bottom of the diagram which is Malaysia or Singapore, and will have to work our way up through each stage. Where is the Diagram? Just below:- NB: I had a few people ask if they could do the same challenge, I did not respond because I was away from the boards, especially because FM22 did not work for me anymore. The answer is, yes you are free to use any resources in this post or previous challenges and have a go at your own Climb the Ladder challenge should you wish. TerminalPortugal
Manager Our random number generator gave us a Slovenian manager so we meet Marko Zuprancic from Ljubljana. We decided for the opening club for this challenge to use the "Pick My Team" feature in FM23, and we got handed a pretty nice outcome of Selangor in Malaysia who are one of the best teams in Malaysia. However we would still somehow need to overcome Johor DT, who have been extremely dominant for almost a decade in Malaysia. Malaysia has a league competition and two cups. The FA Cup will be treated as the main cup for the season. Piala FA Malaysia The FA Cup is the early season cup and we managed to go all the way and win it. In the end we needed a bit of luck in the final but we held on to win the cup and get our first 50 points of the challenge. Piala Malaysia The Piala Malaysia occurs after the league season end and we managed to go all the way again. We beat Johor DT in the final on penalties after a mad 5-5 draw. The rest of the games were very comfortable for us. Another 30 points in the bag. Liga Super Malaysia A fantastic league season saw us go undefeated all season and lift the league title for the first time in quite some time. In the end we won it by 12 points from Johor DT. 100 points in the bag. Squad This is the squad above and really the stand out performers this season are the two Brazilian's upfront Hyuri and Caion, who got 41 and 37 goals respectively. Hyuri probably our best player this season is leaving us, for Fortaleza in Brazil so that will make things a lot more difficult next season, although the replacement Diogo Campos has already joined us. Not sure he is at the same standard but he will have to step up for us. Transfers Most of the transfers were already made and we did not actually make any this season, the players that we did bring in have only joined right at the end of the season. The Malaysian transfer window is a bit weird in its placement in the calendar. So we have brought in Diogo Campos who will replace Hyuri. The other players in, I hope will upgrade us at key positions and free up some foreign allocations spots where necessary to give the squad a bit more flexibility. Manager Thoughts A great start. We will be in the AFC Champions League next season. I will expect we will be no match to Asia's best we will certainly give it a go, and hopefully we can repeat the success we had this season. TerminalPortugal
2023 Season Piala Sumbangish The Super Cup in Malaysia is a little strange as it doubles as a league match as well. So for both three points in the league as well as the Super Cup, we overcame Johor DT 4-1, to get another 30 points on the board. Piala FA Malaysia The FA Cup ended in heartbreak as we failed to find the net in the final against Terengganu as they overcame us 1-0, to become FA Cup winners. Some points dropped here for us. Piala Malaysia A very straightforward route to the final for us as we faced, probably the second best team in Malaysia behind us on form, and in a tough final we overcame them 2-1 to record 15 points, for our second win of the Piala Malaysia AFC Champions League The Champions League was a strange one for us as it was in our hands going into the final game. We hosted Vissel Kobe of Japan at home, and a win would definately secure us first place in the group. However we were unable to overcome them. In fact we only beat the best team in the group, beating Guangzhou 1-0 twice in the group stages to pull off a famous double over our more illustrious opponents. We do however tumble out of the Champions League. Liga Super Malaysia It was tighter than last year but again we more or less strolled to the title with a few games still to play. We did suffer a couple of league losses that were a bit concerning but it never really stopped our overall form which was very good and enough to win the league title for the second year in a row. KL City were the nearest challengers, five points behind. Another 50 points for us. Squad Our squad has expanded in the last few weeks that we almost dont have enough room on the page to show the team. Caion has continued and improved his form after Hyuri left as and he bagged himself 45 goals. Guilherme has been great as well. The elder statesmen managed to get 32 goals in all competitions a great return for him and it helps with match day squad rules that he is Malaysian qualifying. Lau was great, continuing his form from last season, especially on the assist front. Campos was a little disappointing and I can see him leaving us at the end of the season since he had not provided us enough. Agyarkwa, has really improved this season and he could be a force for us in the coming season as the young Ghanaian gets better and better. Transfers Lots of new faces in and plenty out as we look to streamline the wage budget. A lot of focus was on bringing in better Malaysian players so that we could have more freedom when it came to playing the foreigners. Manager Thoughts We played really well this season and we are unlucky not to have got to the Champions League knockout stage. We did drop the FA Cup this season which was annoying, but we got plenty of points this season. I think we will give Selangor another season before we inevitably have to look elsewhere for a job. TerminalPortugal
Season 2024 Piala Sumbangish A very dominant opening league game, that doubled as the Piala Sumbangish as we ran out 7-0 winners against Kuala Lumpur City. Another 15 points. Piala FA Malaysia We got our hands back on the FA Cup as we took down Johor DT in the final winning 4-1. Another 25 points. Piala Malaysia The Piala Malaysia was not as straightforward as we lost the first leg in the semi final, but came back. International call-ups played a big part in that. The final against Negeri Samilan was a tense one as we only just got past them on the lottery on penalties. Another 7 points as the diminishing returns get pretty tough on us, for having won this competition for the third time. AFC Champions League We did not have a very good Champions League campaign, we were not quite at the races ultimately as we lost our first four games and only came back right at the end of the group stages. Liga Super Malaysia Our league form was quite frankly ridiculous this season as we dropped just two points as we walked to a third league title. Another 25 points. Squad Here is the squad. George Attram became the main man up front and did a great job for us with his 42 goals this season. Ezequiel Aguero, a late acquisition for us was also great and replaced Guilherme well as he got himself 30 goals. Caion was on the wane as he reached 34 years old. Elsewhere Agyarkwa, has become probably the best player in the team as he recorded 32 assists this season. Transfers Not a huge amount of activity, as we made a lot of moves last season. Manager Thoughts Another great season with Selangor and to be honest our final one. Had we progressed in the Champions League I would have stayed another season, but the diminishing returns are getting pretty bad, so it time to move on. Don't know yet whether that will be to another Malaysian club or over to Singapore, that still remains to be seen. TerminalPortugal
Season 2025 Our next venture would be in Singapore, as just a few days after we left Selangor, we arrived at Albirex Niigata. Now Niigata is not in Singapore, it is in Japan. This is the child club of a Japanese club and we will be forced to only use Japanese players here. More likely we will have to use Japanese youth players and raise as many as we can through the youth ranks. The club are pretty good for the SIngaporean standard and are expected to finish in 2nd place. LC Sailors are by far and away the best side in Singapore, and it will be tough to reel them in, especially with the restrictions on transfers at the club. Singapore Community Shield In our first competitive game we managed to come through against LC Sailors in the Community Shield 2-1. Add another 30 points onto the board. Singapore Cup The Singapore Cup is right at the end of the season and we managed to come through this one as well. We won the group thanks for beating LC Sailors, and they would not make the final losing to Hougang United in extra time of the second leg. We however had no problems against them as we dispatched them 6-0 for the win, and 50 more points. Singapore Premier League The Premier League would have given us enough points to complete the section but unfortunately for us we were unable to overcome LC Sailors as we lost out finishing in 2nd place. Ultimately they were just too consistent. I wouldn't even say we were inconsistent just they did everything just a little better than us. Next season hopefully we can do better in this competition. Unfortunately for us, no points. Squad The squad is pretty average I would say. We have some real gaps especially in midfield and fullback as we had to play some youngsters all season. The issue has been a real lack of talent that we can go after. The youth intake was good so perhaps we can upgrade our youngsters in midfield with some from the intake. I am hoping that we can go one better in the league but covering some of these gaps is key to that. In terms of performers, Mori got the most goals with 25 goals in 28, and Jan Kobayashi was the best player, anchoring our defence. Transfers Losing Kunimoto was a big loss. He wanted to leave, and we made him a deal as long as the figure hit £55k and ultimately we had to sell him when it did. We did bring in Nagai, an older midfielder out of pure desperation but it counted as the season before. To be honest he has not been good enough to justify taking the screenshot. Manager Thoughts Some progress as we amass 80 points, which is not bad, but the league was the big one and we fell short. We will be going all out for that one next season as that will be enough to send us on to AFC5, should we do it. The AFC Champions League should come around for us, or possibly the AFC Cup, the qualification for these competitions is often up to a year ahead so we will see what happens. TerminalPortugal
Season 2026 Singapore Community Shield We got another win over LC Sailors in the Community Shield, as we won out 4-0, to take 15 points. Singapore Premier League We finally got the job done in the league. LC Sailors started the season awfully which gave us some much needed breathing room as we stormed to the top of the league. A dodgy May put the likes of Tampines, Geylang and LC Sailors back in the picture but we managed to keep them behind us and win the league with a game to spare. That's 100 points and this leg over. SIngapore Cup Left club before we entered the competition. Squad The added youth players certainly helped solidify us a little bit but we still don' have a lot in midfield and it was credit to the two strikers at times in Kakuta and Mori that we got through a lot of games as they were prolific this season. A team that still needs a lot of work, but with some good youngsters already in the team, they should continue from here now. Manager Thoughts Well we finally got the job done in AFC6, as we got that league title win and pushed past the 500 point barrier. Next time up we will be in AFC5, which is composed of Indonesia and Hong Kong. AFC6 COMPLETE! TerminalPortugal
Season 2027/28 We left Singapore and went down to Indonesia to eventually after quite a wait, take over as manager of PSIS Semarang. They are a decent team in Indonesia, who were sitting in 9th, a long way off the top when we took over. The manager had moved upstairs to take up the Director of Football job and that is why we got the opening. The job here since, winning the league looked out of the question was to make sure that we moved up the table. In Indonesia there is one cup and the league, so pretty straightforward. Piala Indonesia Out before we took the job Indonesian Bri Liga I We were still very inconsistent after we took over, to the point where I changed up my tactics, towards the end of the season that resulted in three tight wins, which proved enough to get us into the Asian competition places. I am hoping we can build on this for next season. Squad The squad is decent if not really having any standout players in the squad. Really up and down the team we have pretty solid performers but no game changers, which I felt we had much more at Selangor and Albirex, so we may well need to see if we can do anything in the transfer market, but at the moment there does not appear to be anything on offer at the moment that is radically going to improve the team. We will continue to scout in the off-season and see whether we find anyone. Transfers None Manager Thoughts We got our feet under a new desk, this time in Indonesia and things went well enough that we managed to get continental qualification which is a plus. I do think the Indonesian league will be a really tough league to dominate, let alone win, so we may need to tough it out for a few season and see how things go. TerminalPortugal
Season 2028/29 Piala Presiden After a promising start, we were very poor in the final two group games and found ourselves finishing bottom of the group. I was unaware of this trophy, so it is a bit of an early season League Cup, so nice to have this around for the extra points. Piala Indonesia We went out early to Persipura in the Second Round, again we simply were not good enough to take them down. BRI Liga I We looked pretty dead and buried in December when we couldn't find a win all month and the indifferent form continued into January, but we managed to recover and stay in there, and we had a great run at the end of the season. Going into the final game we had done enough to get a draw and win the league and we managed to do that against Barito Putera, although thanks to Arema's loss in the final game, we did not need it anyway. We win the league and get this leg underway with 100 points. Squad Andreas Ado continued to be main goal threat and got himself 20 goals this season. New signing Andrew Vella was key for us, with his assists and overall play. Kumar and Milutinovic two new signings again were key in anchoring our midfield. Transfers We found some key players this season, with out scouting in Australia at the CU Academy and we managed to pick up three key players for us in Milutinovic, Kumar and Vella. Manager Thoughts A great title win for us as we looked so far away for a while, but came back nicely and in the end we managed to get to the top. 100 points has now been added to our total and we are very much started on our journey through AFC5. TerminalPortugal
Season 2029/30 Piala Presiden We won our group in the Piala Presiden, but we fell at the first hurdle against PSMS in the Quarter Final on penalties, disappointing. Piala Indonesia We got our hands on the Piala Indonesia with an aggregate win over Persipura in the final 5-4. It was a pretty straightforward tournament for us. 50 points collected. AFC Champions League It was a very successful Champions League campaign for us as we managed to get out of the group, as group winners. Sydney were certainly unlucky to miss out with 12 points, but the head to heard results and goal difference worked out how it did. We could not progress any further as we lost to Korean outfit Suwon narrowly 4-3 on aggregate. Still that is some really good progress for a side from Indonesia in this competition. Indonesian BRI Liga I We just lost on the league this season on goal difference. We found some really bad patches this season such as in February where we lost three matches on spin, and this is where we lost the title fundamentally. A shame for us and for me but we will just have to accept the outcome and do better next season. Squad Andreas Ado had a good season as he returned 26 goals. Andrew Vella was the standout player for us however, as he got 13 goals and 14 assists. The Australian is the main man at the club now and the job will be to somehow keep him at the club as that is likely to be a difficult endeavour. Transfers We made some Indonesian signings that I think improved us to go with the Australians that we had brought in last season. We did lost Fijian sensation Waisea Kumar to Adelaide United unfortunately for us, and that probably was a contributing factor to us not winning the league. Manager Thoughts Well the Indonesian leagues sure are pretty tough and while we have had success it has not come at all easy. This year we managed to get our hands on the Piala Indonesia, but fell short in the league. I am looking for that big season where we capture all three domestic competitions and probably then look for our next club, we will see what we can do next season. TerminalPortugal
Season 2030/31 Piala Presiden The Piala Presiden always seems to deliver us bad results and this year was no different as we were sent packing at the group stage, the heavy defeat against Persija, was the issue, had we lost 2-0 then we would have advanced, but not to be. Piala Indonesia We were back in the Piala Indonesia and back to win it as we had a pretty easy route to the final and the final proved to be pretty easy itself as we ran out 9-2 aggregate winners over Persis Solo, another 25 points in the bag. Indonesia BRI Liga I In the league for the first time, we were able to be pretty relaxed at the end of the season as we wrapped it up with a couple of games to go. This time around we were pretty consistent especially in the middle part of the season that had in the past been our downfall, this time around we were solid and brought home the league for another 50 points. AFC Champions League Only one game in the Champions League as we faced off against Korea's Incheon and we were sent home packing in what was a close game but we were not good enough. We would however drop into the AFC Cup for this season so that was at least something. AFC Cup We were great in the AFC Cup as we failed to lose in the whole tournament, a very easy group stage saw us win the group with maximum points and plenty of goals scored. Yangon in the next round were not much of threat and they were well beaten, before we faced off against the best side in indonesia, in an all Indonesian affair against Persija. It was small margins but we came through by a single goal in the away leg. We would face Alay of Kyrgyzstan in the next round and tough away draw set up a big win for us at home. Hong Kong side Eastern made it the effective semi final, again it was a tough set of game and again Shilong found the crucial winning goal at home. Then we were on to a very tough final against Al-Shorta away. We were the heavy underdogs and when we were 3-0 down and 4-1 down it looked lost, but Adi Suherman, pulled off a majestic display as he bagged four in the game including a 95th minute winner to immortalise himself, as we won ourselves the AFC Cup in the most amazing and dramatic fashion and with it 200 points to our total. Squad The squad has been trimmed and many changes were made. The key man still remains Vella, who we managed to tie down to a new deal, but Suherman, Pena and Shilong have been collectively banging in the goals that have made a huge difference to the side. We are very top heavy where the strikeforce is superb but the defence needs a lot of work, but it has worked for us this season. Transfers A lot of business this time around as we spent our full transfer budget. Suherman, Zola, Pena and Shilong has been standout from the names we see above. Manager Thoughts It was a great season as we made a real dent in the points we needed to advance. I had thought about leaving but I think the AFC Cup win changes things enough for me that we will be remaining for another season and seeing if we can get the final 75 points we need to advance. Or make almost academic with wherever we go next. A great season all told and to be honest we needed this kind of season. No job offers yet, probably because only Indonesia and Hong Kong are loaded for the leg, so it would have to be someone like Persipura or Persijaya in Indonesia who could afford me and have a better rep than PSIS. Not sure that any HK team would even bother attempting to get me. Later on when we move into Europe and in South America, we start getting job offers regularly if we do well. TerminalPortugal
Season 2031/32 Piala Presiden After a pretty awful time for the past few years in this competition, we finally managed to get through the group and win the tournament. We lost the opener in the group but never looked back from there, eventually beating Persipura in the final and picking up another 30 points as a result. Piala Indonesia We have made a habit of winning the Piala Indonesia and this year was no different. We had a ridiculously easy run to the final playing sides from the lower leagues until we played Persija in the final and we managed to overcome them 4-1 on aggregate. We receive 12 points for the win. Indonesia BRI Liga I Another league title followed this year as we managed to stave off Persija and Bali Utd. In the end it was a pretty comfortable league title, where we kept our form more or less decent all season. Another 25 points for the league win. AFC Champions League Bizarrely we entered both the Champions League and AFC Cup this season, which made no sense to me. We were just about good enough to get through the group. Some great wins against Perth Glory and Tokyo, allowed us to advance, but we played reigning champions Kawasaki Frontale of Japan in the next round and while we certainly gave them a tie, we fell a little short in the end. AFC Cup I have no real clue why we were in the AFC Cup again, but we were told early in the season that we had qualified for the tournament, which meant we were both in the Champions League and this, which made no real sense. I am not sure whether this is actually possible in Asia for this to happen. Either way I was very happy to be back because it meant more points, and we did not miss a beat all tournament, winning every game, as we swept the group, then beat fellow Indonesian's Persis, then Malaysian side Kedah, followed by April 25 of North Korea and Khujand of Tajikistan to set up a final at home against Al-Ahli of Syria, and while last year was amazing with our come back this time around we took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half and won the game 3-0 to lift another AFC Cup and get another 200 points and end this leg. Squad We ended up playing a gauntlet of matches this season as they keeper featured in 76 games this season, so for a small squad it was a slog, but you have to look at Suherman with 55 goals as a real standout for us this season. Shilong was also great putting on the most assists and bagging 29 goals himself. Vella and Lesmana also played key parts this season for us. Transfers The key was to buy Indonesian and bring in some young defenders to help and we managed to do that with Supriyanto and Sandria who added a lot of quality to the team. Manager Thoughts An amazing but gruelling season saw us get the job done and we have now complete AFC5, with that second AFC Cup win. I think we built a good little team here that can continue to compete in Indonesia for sometime after we are gone. We will be leaving the club immediately and our next stop will be India, there will be no options for countries next leg as they will be the only country in the whole leg. Hopefully we can navigate it swiftly and easily, although I suspect it won't be. TerminalPortugal
Season 2032/33 We arrived in India, with the season just about to start after leaving Indonesia, and there was immediately one position available in the form of Sporting Clube de Goa. They were not much fancied and to be honest we were expected to finish towards the middle of the table but the board wanted to just make sure we were not relegated. We were offered the job and duly accepted it, for the coming Indian I-League season. Durand Cup After a very good group stage we eventually succumbed in the semi final to Kashmir. No points for us. Federation Cup We managed to get our hands on the Federation Cup beating Aizawl in the final 3-2. The road to the final was not easy. Kerala was a tough test especially in the second lef and we needed penalties against North Eastern to get through them. But that is 50 points on the board. Indian Hero I-League Despite the expectation that we might struggle we did anything but as we cantered to the league title. The first league title in the history of the club. I was not expecting to be able to do it as we had so many squad problems that I was unable to cover up. Regardless it was a great achievement and another 100 points on the board. Squad The squad image above is a little deceiving as it also includes our intake which we just got, so the players that are 16 years old and haven't played a game were not here for the season. The squad was so small all season that we really struggled at times, but it didn't seem to hold us back much as we managed to complete a league and cup double. In terms of key players, Zandamela, was the best player for us this season, his goals really helped and we struggled when he got an injury for a month or so. Yumnam was also surprisingly good up front, not sure he could even play up front when we got him but we had to go with someone and he was good enough to now make the position his own. Transfers We had to make some key signings. We were only allowed 4 foreigners, 3 which could be from out of Asia, so Al-Rawi, Zandamela, Mohammed were key signings to really get any kind of quality into this team. Then we looked around the Indian player lists to see who could add anything and we picked up a few key players that actually provided quite a lot during the season, such as Yumnam and Singh. Manager Thoughts A good first season for us, a little unexpected to be honest, but the standard is pretty low, so these things can happen in these situations. I hope next season we can do the same domestically and hopefully have a bit of a run in Asia. TerminalPortugal
Season 2033/34 Durand Cup We did very well in the group stages, getting through without any issue. We however fell at the final hurdle losing to Kerala after extra time. Federation Cup We could on reach the semi final stage of the Federation Cup as we were put out by cross town rivals Salgaocar on penalties. Indian Hero I-League A very easy I-League in the end as Zandamela banged in the goals as we sauntered to the league title for another 50 points. AFC Cup The AFC Cup was going great until we drew ourselves Chinese opposition in the form of Shanghai Port, who were too strong for us, despite a resurgence in the home leg we fell just short. Squad Zandamela was playing out of his mind this year with 43 goals, Gopi Yumnam also had a great season. The issue we will have is the board are not keen on resigning any of the foreign boys because we are over the wage budget so I suspect at this stage unless something changes they will all be gone and I am not sure we will have much to challenge with next season. Transfers Being over budget meant we were not able to bring anyone and basically the board are kind of in my way to take this team to the next level at the moment. Manager Thoughts It was a pretty disappointing season in some ways as we only came away from it with 50 points. As mentioned the board are getting my way so we may need to see how we do and then make a decision as to whether we remain with the club. TerminalPortugal
Season 2034/35 Durand Cup The Durand Cup continues to curse us as we get as far as the semi finals and then bow out. International fixtures are a problem for us around the end stage of this tournament as we always end up with a depleted squad, but I presume it affects the other clubs as well. The barren spell in this competition continues. Federation Cup No issues for us again in the Federation Cup, despite the draws in the earlier rounds, we never really felt like going out. The final was quite the match as we took down Chennai City 7-4. Another 25 points earned. Indian Hero I-League We probably should have missed out on the title this year to be honest as we trailed Churchill Brothers going into the final few games, but a win against them gave us the leadership of the league. However the final game was against Churchill Brothers, and both ourselves, Churchill Brothers and Aizawl could have taken the title. We need a win to be sure of the league, Aizawl needed to win and anything but us to win. Churchill Brothers needed to win and have Aizawl not win to win the the title. In the end it was a draw in both games, so we can count ourselves a little lucky to have won it in the end. Another 25 points for us. AFC Cup We managed to win another AFC Cup as a manager and the first with Sporting Goa. The real difficult ties ended up being Pakistan Army, just because we had so many people away, that we lost away and somehow won the return leg, and obviously the amazing victory against Beijing, which was very unexpected. Both games to be fair were unexpected as we played amazingly away to get a 3-3 draw and then played the Chinese side off the park. In the final we play Al-Zawra'a from Iraq and came away with the win 3-1 to lift the AFC Cup and gather a very much needed 200 points. Squad Ivaldo Zandamela and Mohammad Alam, were a perfect strike partnership this season both getting 33 goals although Zandamela you could argue didn't have as good a season as last season. In the end the board gave us the space to resign the key players and actually make some moves in the market which kept this team very competitive. New signing Francisco Thakur was very good in terms of assists for us this season as well which is worth pointing out. Transfers Al-Rawi and Ivan were gone which allowed us to pick up some better foreign players. We got former player of ours Ade Sandria, whom we signed for PSIS and he had already left the club, and Teodor Georgiev, an Australian again available on a free transfer. The rest of the moves were around the Indian market. Mohammad Alam and Francisco Thakur the key signings who had a major impact this season on the fortunes of the team Manager Thoughts We are not far away now from completing this leg with that AFC Cup win, although we may have done well enough now to have gotten India into the Champions League places, which is both good and bad, good in that it shows progression, but bad as we have little to no chance of competing in that competition, we will see how it goes. I think we are looking good for next season and I am not really considering move on at this stage to somewhere else, I think we can continue to progress here at Sporting Goa. TerminalPortugal
Season 2035/36 Durand Cup Finally after many an attempt to win this competition we finally did it. Again we needed a little bit of luck in the quarter final where penalties were need to seal our victory against Kerala, but apart from that game we were very dominant. Another 30 points added to the total and our collection of Indian trophies complete. Federation Cup The Federation Cup has been our bread and butter while in India and we conquered it again, although again it require extra time to seal the deal against Tiddim Road as we came through 3-2, and receive 12 points for the win Indian Hero I-League The league win added to the other trophies would be enough to complete this round and we were finished things off in style with a faultless league season as we went the season undefeated and left every other team in our dust, a fantastic way to finish things off in India as we capture our 4 straight league title. Another 12 points on the board. AFC Champions League Our Champions League escapade ended as soon as it started with a one legged away tie at Al Jaish we were well beaten in an early season match 4-1. Squad We have moulded this squad over time to be the best in India by a country mile and the diamond on the crown is Zandamela with his unbelievable scoring achievements as he found another 41 goals this season in just 31 appearances. To be honest, he was really the main standout. Alam was also notable with 26 goals but everything we do is seemingly finished off by Zandemela it seems. Sandria our Indonesian signing also has come leaps and bounds and is so key for us at the back, the stats back up what a great season he has had. Transfers We had to focus on bringing in the best possible Indian talent, due to the foreign player restrictions and Dipu Khan was a great acquisition for us, and still very young. Gill as well, despite not being the best keeper you will ever see, is an Indian international and little better than what we have had during our stay in Goa. Manager Thoughts The journey through India is complete and in rather a fitting fashion with an unbeaten season. I thought we moulded this team very well, perhaps better than our work as PSIS and Selangor. Next up we will be moving on Australia, where we will be meeting out first golden stage where the point requirement will be moving up to 1,500 points, in what I will expect to be a rather long leg for us. Australia also brings the trepidation of needing to meet all kinds of annoying player wage rules, which I will have to reacquaint myself with, so we will see how it will go. TerminalPortugal
Season 2037 We left India, and arrived in Australia, and we had to wait until the midpoint of the season for a job to come available. Newcastle Jets were the first job available, but they took their time scheduling the interview, so when Macarthur sacked their manager, interviewed us and came in for us, we decided to go with them. They were sat rooted to the bottom of the league and the board wanted to, if at all possible not finish bottom. It was going to be a tough ask but it was a new project to get our teeth into. Australia does have a cup competition as well as the A-League but, we did not seem to have qualified for it somehow, not too sure how that was possible. A-League We came in and got an immediate impact with a win against Brisbane Roar 2-0, but things took a bit of a turn as we drew and then lost the next three games 1-0, but eventually things changed around quite handsomely. It made very little difference to our league position beyond ensuring that we would not be bottom when it was all said and done, but the manner of some of the wins such as the hammerings of Perth Glory and Central Coast Mariners gave me a lot of hope for next season. We did play something called a Qualifying Round after the season against Newcastle Jets, no idea what that was for, as I mentioned before not a fan of Australia and all the weirdness. Squad I don't think it is the worst squad in the world, but it certainly does need a few improvements, and we have already been working in the background to that. As part of the process we also got rid of two strikers, which will be seen in the transfer section, as I look to begin making some changes nice and quick. Transfers The signings were not me, but the exits were as I could not be bothered to fight to keep these players. Bayliss was probably the best striker at the club but £1.2m is quite a nice sum of money for him and Hassan to be honest was not really what I needed. It now occurs to me that other times I have played in Australia, the Middle Eastern club constantly attempt to raid the Australian clubs, or rather my club normally and it was a constant issue last time around, nice to see it is still here to give me a headache or two. Manager Thoughts Well we could not have done anymore than we did I think. I am hopeful for next season, that we can at least make the playoffs. Ultimately to get any points we will need to win the playoffs, the regular season nets us no points so that is another headache to deal with Australia, one of many. If we get into Asian competition it would be good to see whether we are competitive at all. We got PSIS to the Second Round, so I would expect we could challenge but that seems a long way away at the moment. TerminalPortugal
Season 2037/38 Australia Cup We had a great run all the way to the cup. It included a 15-0 win the Second Round and beating Adelaide Utd in the final. That's 50 points for us. A-League We had a superb season as we romped to the regular season title, but it all comes down to the playoffs and we needed penalties in the semi final, before a late winner against Adelaide brought us the Australian double crown of Regular Season and Post Season champions. We get 100 points for the playoff win. Squad Turg'unov, a new Uzbek signing, was the key man for us with 30 goals. Jorge Luis got us 17 assists as well. All round can't complain. Transfers Some big signings for us in Turg'unov, Khairi, Son and Silva, as well as some great Aussies as well that we picked up on frees. We lost Khairi to the Middle Eastern transfer avalanche that happens late in the season when they met his minimum fee release clause, so we promoted young Papadimitrou, to deputise. Manager Thoughts Great first full season with the team as we far overperformed my expectations, and get 150 points on the board, hopefully with Champions League next season we can go far. TerminalPortugal
Season 2038/39 Australia Cup We were unable to repeat our Australia Cup run of a year before as we lost out to Brisbane Roar in the semi final. No points added here. A-League We were however able to repeat our league and playoff double as we won the regular season, although it ended up being close in the end. In the playoffs we saw off a mad semi final against Sydney to progress to faced Central Coast Mariners, whom we swept aside imperiously 4-0 to win a second double crown in Australia. AFC Champions League I wanted to know whether we would be competitive in the Champions League and the answer to that question was, very much competitive. We got ourselves our maiden Champions League win both as a manager and for the club in question. A good group stage, saw us then beat fellow group side Vissel Kobe of Japan convincingly, before doing the same to fellow Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale in the Quarter Finals. We then got through comfortably against Jeonbuk over two legs in the semi final before we faced Al-Duhail in the final, and while it was a tough set of games, we came through in the end to bag the 500 points, and rocket our way on this leg of the journey. Squad The squad is always changing because we always being raided by the Arab clubs, even so Mihajlo Milovanovic was by far the best performer and for the first time he won top goalscorer, top assister and top rating, for the season triple, which from memory of past challenges is a very rare feat. I think it might have come about because he played on the wing for half the season and up front for the other half as we had to reshuffle things. Another player to point out is Jackson Benitez, this guy could be an absolute beast next season if we can hold on to him. Transfers We lost some very key players this season in Silva, Son and Turg'unov. The first two were taken by Arab side Al-Taawoun, the issue comes due to minimum fee release clauses which we have no real way of avoiding and also a general desire of the players to get the big bucks in Saudi, Qatar etc. Turg'unov actually was being chased by half of Europe, as his performances had clearly attracted a little more attention. Brest in France were the ones who finally stumped up the necessary cash to activate his minimum fee release clause. Because of all this we had plenty of signings to make. Milovanovic, was an early season signing and you saw the great results already. Ruiz comes in as solid Uruguayan centre back, Ernest Annan is a young Ghanaian right back with good potential. Balde was to be honest one which was not the best signing but we needed a Son replacement and he really was the best we could get. Benitez could well be a monster in the A-League in a season and half, I suspect we may struggle to keep him that long however. Manager Thoughts A superb season. Australia is bringing back a lot of memories of past challenges and the constant battles to keep players, we have to be sharp in the transfer window and we are now more less acquainted with the rules of the league now. It was a great season to take home the A-League and AFC Champions League. I would take that every single time. TerminalPortugal
Season 2039/40 Australia Cup We fell a tiny bit short in the Australia Cup as we lost the final to Sydney FC. We were not really in the final as Sydney got two goals up and a late consolation was too late to make any difference. No points won here. A-League It was another A-League triumph as we again won the regular season rather convincingly, then getting past Western United and narrowly beating Sydney FC in the final to get our revenge for the cup. Another 25 points banked. AFC Champions League We rather emphatically repeated our Champions League success as we smashed through our group, which looked harder on paper than it was in reality, before handily beating Gangwon of South Korea and compatriots Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC to set up a final against Al-Sadd and we were much the better over the two legs to win another Champions League and bank another 500 points. Squad The main story is that we mostly kept the key players we needed to and the emergence of Simon Papadimitriou as a key player in the side. The 20 year old striker has been in scintillating form for us this season as he bagged 38 goals and 18 assists. Milanovic and Benitez have also been integral to our efforts. Hopefully we can hold on to our key men. Transfers Inevitably players had to leave this season, but they were not absolutely key players for us. David Miller was a good stalwart for us up front and I would have liked to keep him but he decided to leave and we already knew we would lose Jorge Luis from midfield the season before when he decided to sign a pre-contract agreement with Western United. Steve Foster was a good full back for us, but also aging so letting him go was not all bad. Into the club came Dyer, Markou, Abdullah and Hrehoresin. None were unbelievable but the likes of Abdullah and Markou have helped a lot for us, and Spencer Dyer was decent this season, and I am hoping he kicks on next season Manager Thoughts Another great season as we captured another league and Champions League double. We are now within touching distance of completing our first golden stage and hitting those 1,500 points, but it will require a third Champions League if we are to complete the stage at Macarthur. I definately fancy us to do especially after the last two seasons as long as we can hold on to our key players. TerminalPortugal
Season 2040/41 Australia Cup We got our hands on another Australia Cup. The road to the final was actually pretty easy with only Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory any kind of threat to us, but in the end the threat proved to be ineffective against us as we get another 25 points A-League It was a similar story in the league as we captured both the regular season and playoff wins. However it was very close to not happening as in the semi final we were in danger of not even making the final after our first leg semi final result against Perth Glory, but a great response from the boys back at home saw us through 5-2 on the night, enough to advance us to the Grand Final. There we found Western United and we came out on top 3-1 winners. AFC Champions League After breezing through the group, we would first face adversity in the semi final of the Champions League up against Sydney FC and a 4-3 loss, but seemed a result we could turn around at home, and we did so well enough winning 4-2 to book a place in the final against Al Ittihad. In the final we got the right result at home 2-0 which then forced Al Ittihad to come at us away, and a third minute goal from Milanovic more or less made things safe as did a 16th minute second goal from Papadimitriou, then game would end 2-2 but we would win out, and capture a third straight Champions League and complete our journey in Australia. Squad As the Champions League win occurred before the League win, we decided that since we already home and hosed when it came to the leg we would allow a lot of the bit part players to leave when their contracts ran out. This would give the incoming manager a good opportunity to fill out the squad how they wanted, and not be held down to players that they may not need. With £7m in transfer budget and a great crop of youngsters to promote, the future would look healthy. This year again Papadimitriou was amazing as he seems to be the future of Australian football going forward with 42 goal season. New signing Zhang was brilliant this season as was Milanovanic. Markou and Tesform were very good at the back this season, the latter a youngster that is coming along very nicely for this team at only 20 years old. Transfers It seems inevitable that Benitez would have to leave us and he finds a new home at Sevilla. We got use out of him for half a season before the moved happened in January. His replacement Zhang, caused us to have to cut Ruiz just because of how the transfers timing worked out to meet the foreigner limit. Zhang was a great signing for us. Passante was just a bit part player and cover that I felt would be decent to have. Manager Thoughts We got the job done this season with our third Champions League win. The question is very much answered to whether Aussie sides could hack it in continental football, the answer is a resounding yes and we have put Macarthur Football Club on the map as the leading Australian side, arguably the leading Asian side at the moment. Australia proved itself to be a little easier than I remember it being last time around I tried this challenge and I actually enjoyed Australia a bit more this time around. Next up we look forward to going to China, where I am sure there will be major challenge for us, especially as it is another golden leg which will need us to collect 1,500 points before we are able to progress onward from AFC2. TerminalPortugal
Season 2043 We missed out on quite some time after leaving Australia, as a top division Chinese job did not come up until well into the 2043 season, the second season we were waiting on. The club in question is Dalian Professional, they were a few points above relegation in 14th place and the board were just looking for us to avoid relegation this season, but the general expectation of the club at best would be a mid table finish for the team. The team were not very good especially the foreign talent at the club that were not much better than the domestic talent. The good news was that for Dalian money was no object. Our wage budget was approaching £2m a week and we had over £60m to spend, not that we would ever get anywhere near those kind of budgets, but it gave us a great platform to completely turn the fortunes of the club around, if we could do it. Chinese FA Cup On arrival we managed to get past Changchun but were bested by Wuhan in the Quarter Final, unfortunate for us as I thought we looked good in the game, especially when we got back into it through Tall but extra time was a step too far. No points for us. Ping An CFA Super League In the end our league finish was a splendid achievement for us, we did very little early on to change the team because we were outside the window, but we started making targets for the coming window that approached in August. In the mean time we had lukewarmish start to the season, but we eventually got familiar with the tactical approach and we started to heat up, and once we got into the window we were able to make some real changes to the team to really start showing ourselves as a force. In the end we could have potentially won the title, but the loss to Hebei killed our chances and I think we would have missed out anyway had results not been changed by us instead winning the Hebei match. To go from 14th some 20 odd points behind the leader to within 6 points showed a lot of fortitude from the team. The great thing about the run is that we qualified for the Champions League so we can charge on all fronts next season. Squad We changed a lot of players, pretty much all the foreign players are different apart from Alan, which will likely be moved on next season. I am not going to pinpoint a player to discuss because the key guys we now have had so little time to make their mark, but I am hoping for some nice statistics next season. Transfers We made a lot of moves in August spending a record £11.5m for the club. Tall looks like our main man up front, Chagoya will have a role in defence, Caballe is the player that caused a major stir amongst the fans and he should cause full backs headaches next season. Sosa comes as defensive and full back flexibility and Pitchyang is very versatile and can play DM and defence. Elsewhere we got the best Chinese players we could to cover the main areas we needed to upgrade which was extensive. Most of the foreigners that were already at the club I mutually terminated their contracts because we could not find immediate buyers. In terms of sales, nothing much to say, mostly players that would never feature in my plans. Manager Thoughts A good start, even though we got no points on the board. I am confident we can be very competitive next season on all fronts and I expect to hopefully have some points in the bag next season. TerminalPortugal
Season 2044 Chinese FA Cup The new squad arrived in the FA Cup for a new FA Cup journey and this time around, after a tough Fourth Round tie where it could have all ended had we failed in the lottery of penalties we managed to go all the way, beating Meizhou handily in the 5th Round, Beijing in the Quarter Finals, Shanghai Port in the semi finals in a tough game and finding it a lot easier in the final against Guangzhou City as we lifted the FA Cup and bagged ourselves 50 points. Ping An CFA Super League Last season we were impressive in our recovery, this year no one could live with us as we won the league 7 fixtures before the end of the season. We amassed 95 points and a goal difference of +100. No one was anywhere near us pretty much all season as we just mostly battered the rest of China all season. 100 points in the bag. AFC Champions League We only reached the group stages of the Champions League so far, due to the truncated nature of the league season and the Champions League. So far we look very competitive, as we more less battered everyone in sight in our group which included our former side Macarthur. We will see how far we go next time around when the knockout stages commence next season. Squad Last seasons changes have well and truly bedded in and now we can see how the main guys at the club are performing and Tall, looks like everything I would want him to be scoring 50 goals and an average rating that Messi would be proud of. Caballe has been the creative genius I expected him to be when we managed to pick him up from free agency, as well as Gonzalo Santana a Canadian we picked up from Canadian football who has been brilliant from right back. That right wing is causing the rest of China all kinds of problems. We look very formidable Transfers The main pick up for us was Gonzalo Santana, as I realised we could have up to 7 foreigners but only play 5. I decided to pick up another key foreign player. Elsewhere we let a few leave, but mostly players on loan looking for development and some who were not going to be playing any football for us. Manager Thoughts A great start. I said we would be competitive, but to be honest we were dominant as we romped home for a double. The league performance was especially triumphant as we battered the rest of China to record a 95 point season and perhaps more impressively at +100 goal difference. Things are looking rosy and if we can win the Champions League into the next season and start well in the next, then things would be looking great to make short work of this leg. TerminalPortugal
Season 2045 Chinese Super Cup We were in the Super Cup this season and it was an emphatic win, with us beating Shanghai Port 7-1. We get ourselves another 30 points. Chinese FA Cup We managed to win another FA Cup. We pretty much had no real challenge on the way to win the cup. Another 25 points for us. CFA Super League The league again was sewn up pretty early, as again there was not much of challenge, although we did lose quite a few points compared to last season. Another 50 points for us. AFC Champions League We managed to go all the way in the Champions League to give us a 4th Champions League success as a manager and the first with Dalian. 500 points on the board. FIFA World Club Cup Thanks to Champions League success we qualified for the World Club Cup and gave a good account of ourselves as we beat Brazilian side Palmeiras before losing to PSG in the other group to end our campaign. AFC Champions League At the end of the season we started a new campaign in the Champions League and everything has gone well so far as we get through our group. The only negative being an away loss to Jeonbuk. Hopefully we can have another successful campaign. Squad Tall continued to be an incredible player for us as he smashed in 52 goals this season, as he continues to make Asian football look easy. Piao Shang also had a great season for us. Fernando Carballe, also continued his amazing form for us. Really you could pick out many of the players as having really helped this season. Transfers We brought in Chinese talent where we could and we allowed Pitchayang to leave and brought Ecaudorian wonderkid Carlos Montano, who I think looks an amazing player, how long we can hold on to him, we shall see. Manager Thoughts A top season from us as we took home all the silverware. Can't complain with that. Manager Profile Summary
TerminalPortugal
Season 2046 Chinese Super Cup Another Super Cup win nets us 15 points Chinese FA Cup Always looked like we would win the FA Cup. The only slight scare was extra time against Changchun, where came out 3-1 winners. In the final Shanghai were no match for us. CFA Super League The other years we have been dominant but this was absolute massacre, as we dropped 2 points all season and had a ridiculous +135 goal difference in the end. The amount of times we scored 7,8,9,10,11 and 12 goals was just staggering. The third league win in a row, nets us 25 points. AFC Champions League We tasted defeat in the Champions League but always breezed through each tie. In the end we faced Al Sadd in the final and it was a 4-1 demolition home and away to give us another Champions League crown, our 5th as a manager and another 500 points. AFC Champions League We are safely through as group winners, in the new iteration of the Champions League without too many issues. We did lose in Australia against bottom placed Brisbane Roar to give us some pause. If we win this in the first half of next season then this leg will be over. Squad The squad produced performances of the highest possible order. Tall continues to be absolutely unstoppable and now with strike partner Shang, who has found another level we are more less undeniable now. They had 115 goals combined. Simply incredible performances from the team. Transfers Mastrangelo came in this season and he is a superstar. We got him inbecause we decided to cash in on Chagoya who was probably now a cut below the rest of foreign contingent. Cai Xao also came in to bolster the domestic talent. In terms of outs, apart from Chagoya the other players were expendable. Manager Thoughts Incredible performance this season as we smashed the league and I have to think now that I would be more surprised if we did not come away with 3rd Champions League crown this coming season and end the challenge there and then. TerminalPortugal
Season 2047 CFA Super Cup We won another Super Cup this season beating Shanghai Port 3-0. 7 more points to us. AFC Champions League We managed to do it a third time and collect another Champions League crown, beating Al Sadd in the final. We collect 500 points and that enough points to move onto AFC1 and South Korea. Chinese FA Cup We got through the first leg in the FA Cup, but with the Champions League win it becomes academic for us as we are leaving Dalian. CFA Super League Perfect start to the season as we recorded 10 wins out of 10 to open up, and we look good value to win another league title in all honesty. Squad It's still early in the season so not yet a lot to say, but this is final squad we had at Dalian. Transfers We lost Carballe to RB Leipzig and Carlos Montano went to Manchester United. The replacements were Madera and Pejsa. Manager Thoughts We very much dominated China and it was been a brilliant performance from the side for a few successive years. Now it is time to move onto the final leg in Asia, namely AFC1 and South Korea. AFC2 COMPLETE Manager Profile Summary
TerminalPortugal
Season 2048 We had to wait around in South Korea a little time until a job became available, and when it did, they approached us first. The club in question was a good one in Jeonbuk, who are one of the better teams in South Korea and we must have played them a dozen times now in Asian football. They were sitting in 8th place, which is pretty bad for them and the goal was to bring the club back up the table. A fair bit of the season had gone so we would not have a huge amount of time to make things happen Korean FA Cup Already out when we joined the club K-League 1 We did pretty well to rescue the season and finish in 2nd place, to be honest there would have been no way we would have been able to finish in 1st place so I will certainly take that. AFC Champions League A big advantage of Jeonbuk is that they start in the Champions League and while we certainly weren't amazing we did enough to go through the group as group winners. We even faced old side Dalian in the group and we will be facing them next time around when the Champions League resumes. Squad It is a good squad but there are few gaps that I would like to resolve. Hruby although a good player I believe he is going, as is Jung Ho-Young and Oh Young-Gi, so we will need to do some work in the transfer market. Transfers I was not really involved in any of this business apart from sending Al-Sulaiti on loan to Mainz as we could register him, several pre arranged transfers came in after we had joined the club and it left us in predicament that we resolved in that way. Milestone We reached 1,000 games in management this year. Manager Thoughts It's been a decent start, without being spectacular, we certainly lack the ability we had at Dalian and probably the standard of the opposition is higher, but I am very happy that we ended up at a club like Jeonbuk who should be able to immediately challenge for honours. TerminalPortugal
Season 2049 Korean FA Cup We managed to get our hands on the Korean FA Cup as we took down Gangwon in the final. We had a pretty tough road to the final, but managed it very well to pick up our first 50 points. K-League I don't think in all our time in Korea we will have an easier league title as it was curtains way before the final fixture. We ended up amassing 100 points this season, 34 points clear of Gangwon in second place. A great achievement and 100 points for us. AFC Champions League We managed to go all the way in the Champions League, the toughest test probably being against our former club Dalian Pro, as we narrowly got past them in both legs. That is now seven Champions Leagues for us in Asia and another 500 points on the board. FIFA World Club Cup Despite an amazing result against Mexico's Cruz Azul whom we smashed 8-0, we could not make a dent in Bayern Munich and exit the competition at the group stage. AFC Champions League We looked good again, as we went out to defend out crown. We managed to top the group, only dropping points away to Sydney and Kawasaki Frontale. We will see if we can go all the way again next season. Squad It has been a squad performance for us, as we have relied a lot on the domestic talent for the league especially, where the match day rules are a little weird. Oh Seok-ju has been the standout performer with his 49 goals this season, he was a great acquisition for us in the transfer market. Morten Jensen has been very good as well, he came in with some big potential, so he has done very well for us as well. In all looking good, but I am always looking to improve where possible. Transfers Domestic talent has been the key. In the end the foreign talent has produced in patches but also we seem to lose them in the transfer market such as Ashouri, who we made a nice profit on, but we will need to replace. Helio Moreno also is a big loss for us as was a key player for us last season. Manager Thoughts A great season, plenty of points on the board and hopefully we can build from here and repeat what we just did again. TerminalPortugal
Season 2050 Korean FA Cup A pretty shocking result for us as we go out of the FA Cup at the Quarter Final stage losing to Daegu. K-League 1 Another very similar league season as we walked the league this time amassing 98 points, as again no one was anywhere near us in South Korea. We take another 50 points as a result AFC Champions League It was another Champions League crown and to be honest we were comfortable all the way through the knockout rounds of the tournament. Very nice to get another 500 points on the board, and that is our 8th AFC Champions League as a manager. AFC Champions League We navigated our way through the group without many issues. We now just need these remaining rounds of the Champions League and the final itself to bank our needed points to advance onward and complete Asia. Squad A few new faces in the team. We raided our old club and got in Madera, who is an excellent player and really helped us this season. Oh Seok-ju continues to be an absolute goal-machine for us, with 54 goals this season. The team is looking very nice at the moment. Transfers The main expenditure was Madera, whom we broke the South Korea transfer record for, but he is worth every penny to us. We also brought in Milos Zivadinovic, whom really is mostly deployed at DMC and he has been decent if not amazing. Elsewhere Lee Jin--Sung was a loss for us, and Park Tae-Won always can pop up with a goal, but we are doing very much okay without them at the moment Manager Thoughts The target now is the Champions League this coming season, if we can get through the knockout stages like we have the last two times as manager of Jeonbuk then this leg will be over. That is very much the goal and then we can move out of the AFC section. TerminalPortugal
Season 2051 Korean FA Cup Not yet entered K-League 1 AFC Champions League With this Champions League win, it completes our journey in South Korea. We did have hard time in the semi final losing to Dalian, but rectified it in the return leg, before beating Al Sadd in the final. Squad This was the final squad with Jeonbuk. Transfers Almost no business this season. Manager Thoughts Our ninth Champions League win as a manager is enough to finish off our run in Asia. We next go over to Canada for NA3, and the next one won't be a golden leg, so just 500 points required which makes a nice change. TerminalPortugal
Season 2055 We arrive in Canada for our new job some four years or so after leaving Jeonbuk. There were simply no resignations or sackings in that time. I tried to declare interest several times but to no avail. Eventually the first job available was York United, a team who play in the outskirts of Toronto. Weirdly, they were expected to finish in 6th but were sitting 5th and the manager was sacked. Not totally sure for what reason, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. With half the season remaining, the goal was to remain mid-table set by the board. To explain a little about the competitions in Canada. We have the CanPL, which is the league system, it has a playoff at the end of the season much like Australia and the USA, and we will need to win the post season to be considered champion. They have the Canadian Championship which is a cup competition, the catch is that the MLS sides of Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver also take part, and they as you would expect are a lot better than all the domestic Canadian sides. That one is worth 50 points. Canadian Championship This was pretty embarrassing, they are probably the best team in Canada at the moment, but that second leg was a farce from our side, with two sent off, just a disaster of match. Canadian Premier League We managed to go on a winning run right after we took over, but we had some horrible end of season form, that we needed to rectify in the final few games to keep us still going in the playoffs, which we managed to do. Unfortunately it would be one and out for us in the playoffs as we lost in the semi finals to Atletico Ottawa, in the end on penalties. An inauspicious start for us, but there is a little bit of hope there, we were a few kicks away from the final and potentially 100 points, so we can hold on that going forward. Squad This is the squad, really no great performances really to speak of, but we have only had about half a season if that to work with the team. I expect things to improve. The issue is that I don't think we can really buy our way into a good side like we did at Dalian and Jeonbuk, we may need to rely on development and hoping we get the right youth prospects. Obviously we will pick up bargains where we see them, and if we can win the league and get into the Champions League then we may be able to be more transfer heavy. It is worth noting that there is a requirement to play a certain number of minutes of youth players, we have plenty in the team but I will always have to keep this in mind. Transfers Only Adrian de la Torre, was ours, he looked like an immediate improvement at fullback for us so we decided to bring him. Manager Thoughts No points this season, but we will see what we can achieve next season, with a good wind I think this team can win the CanPL, so we will see if we can make that happen. TerminalPortugal
Season 2056 Canadian Championship Despite the first round knockout, we can be reasonably happy considering we took an MLS side all the way to penalties. Does not give us any points but some respect was earned. Canadian Premier League We felt like a completely different team this season, as we walked the regular season as no one could really live with us. However in Canada, it all comes down to what you can do in the post season and after disposing of Cavalry, we required penalties against Forge, to see us through. We were hampered with a red card in the final, but we managed to keep the game level and in the end we got to lift the trophy and get our first 100 points on the board. Squad Well there is a name that jumps out and that new signing Mario Costa, who scored 45 goals and averaged a Messi like 8.41. He was absolutely incredible this season and pretty much changed our fortunes alone. He actually kind of came in, with a little bit of reticence from me because I did not really think striker was a big problem as we had options available, but he has gone from strength to strength this season. Transfers Two signings for us this season. Bennounda, who was stalwart but was a little underwhelming and Costa, who was a minor league Messi this year. The two outs where inconsequential to us and would never have played. Manager Thoughts A good season for us as we set down a marker of our intentions. We should now be involved in North American football next season, but I don't give us a prayer of competing which will mean we will need to consider where our next move might be especially if we can win another league title. Cavalry have sacked their manager twice now in successive seasons so that may well be a place we may look, if they have an underwhelming season. TerminalPortugal
Season 2057 Canadian Championship It certainly wasn't not easy, but we managed to go all the way in the Canadian Championship as we beat MLS side Montreal in the Qualifying round before wins against Cavalry and Valour set us up against another MLS side in Vancouver, and it required a great home leg to give us the cup. Another 50 points for us. Canadian Premier League We were absolutely all over the place this season. We lost the opening game to Forge 7-1 and lost to them again later in the season 5-1 as well. We also had another 5-1 loss to Valour as we just seemed all over the place at times, especially in the early part of the season. Forge duly went on and won the regular season, but we managed to get our way to the final beating Atletico Ottawa over two legs, before we absolutely blind robbed Forge in the final, as we were dominated in the game, but while we bent we did not break and found ourselves a goal as well to somehow win a second league title. Honestly it was probably the weirdest season I have yet experienced, but we got the job done. Another 50 points for us. CONCACAF Champions League We were completely outclassed in the Champions League, a 1-1 draw at Portland was the best it ever got for us as we finished bottom of the group and the losers playoff, provided us no route to continue in the tournament. As expected we are far below this level. Squad Mario Costa was still the main man, but it was a far more human season from him as he averaged just below 8. He still bagged 41 goals this season, so it was still amazing. Samuel Sutton produced a fair bit this season and it was good to see. Transfers Barely any business this season, perhaps that is why we seemed to take a step back, but there really wasn't anyone that I felt we could get that would improve us much, and we are already over budget anyway. Manager Thoughts Well, we were not that great this season and we needed a bit of luck in the league, and somehow we came away with two trophies. I think it is now time to move on from York United, as the diminishing returns will start getting pretty hefty as we go along, and I perhaps feel we lost a step this season and I wonder where it might go next season. At the moment I don't know who the next club are but hopefully it will be a team we can instantly compete with. TerminalPortugal
Season 2058 Upon leaving York United, the only job that was already available was Valour, in Winnipeg and after a successful interview we got the job. Valour as we have seen over our time in Canada are one of the better teams. The board where expecting us to reach the playoffs and that was certainly my goal as well. Canadian Championship Our cup run ended with MLS side Toronto. A decent performance all around but not enough to see them off. Canadian Premier League It was a very good first season we put together but it all looked like it would end at the hands of our former club York United in the semi final of the playoffs. A heavy 3-0 loss made us massive outsiders, bringing it back home, but we were amazing and in the last 15 minutes of the match we pulled off something truly memorable as we came through 4-0 winners. In the final we would face old established foe Forge, and we managed to eventually get the better of them in extra time, winning 2-1, to give us 100 points. Squad Valour have no youth set up, so we end up with this mess. I think the highlight for me was the front two Havey and Bradford, who got plenty of goals to get us out of plenty of jams. Certainly it is a cut below what we had at York United, but still extremely efficient. Transfers No major business just replacing centre back Garland who was LA Galaxy bound for De Santis, who looked a good young talent that could come into the team. Manager Thoughts I think we were a bit fortunate to win the league after the first leg display against York United, but we managed to produce a fifteen minute spell that got us through and again we managed to get through Forge. That now leaves us on 300 points and we are past the halfway mark of this leg. We will definitely be staying with Valour for another season and seeing what we can do and then we may have to think again about moving on elsewhere.
