How to remove names from database?

I’ve created a nation and got it working so we can play in the Euros, World Cup, etc, and our clubs play in European competitions.

The problem I have is that the greyed out players and many of the regens and the players added at the start as staff members, have the old nationality’s type of names.

I removed them all from the database and added all my own names, so surely it shouldn’t do that.

Are there certain names that are hardcoded into the database or something? And if so how can I remove them?

It depends which nation you have used. Some will be OK with you removing all players, some will always show the old nation names. The only thing you can try is drown out the old names, by adding as much names as possible. Or you can decide a nation that has a similar namebase to what you want to create.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, because I don't know how to create a nation and get it playing in international competitions myself, I downloaded someone else's and edited it.

He has used CIS and created Friesland, so the players all have Dutch sounding names. I have moved all those players over to Holland and thought that would work. But there's still far more of them than the English sounding names I have used. I have over 200 names of my own in it.

So if it's CIS - who have no players at the start - and it has been edited to add Dutch names, there must be a way of removing them all?

Yes, I moved all the old cities back over to Holland.

The database I am creating is a British Isles one: all the islands around Britain. So the likes of Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, etc, all those have just been moved over from England, Scotland, etc, to my new nation. I also added over 2000 English players to the database. But still having the same issue.

Does anyone have any idea how or where I edit these names please? They must have been added somewhere, so they must be able to be deleted somewhere. The nation used by the original editor was Commonwealth of Soviet States, and these names are Dutch so they've definitely been added by the original editor and not by SI.

Yes, the idea is that names aren't deleted. Once added, you're stuck. In addition there are hidden namelists that can't be edited for some nations.

I know this isn't what you want to hear...

I would need to see the file to answer that question. Your logic is logical, so make sense.

Sounds like you may have neglected to change the "city" language, the "local region" language, or the "nation" language from Dutch to English - particularly if the names showing up are more generic Dutch names and not names from the created players. Or the "nation" "region" from northern Europe to UK and Ireland.

Alternately if you've deleted a bunch of the created Dutch players, you might be screwed. As someone said, deleted names say in the newgen pool

If you deleted the players their names would stay in the database, yes, but you're not screwed. You can still fully remove them.

Go to the Database Changes section here:

Find the people that were added or had name changes like the one above then click the remove button. You can either remove individual changes down below, or just remove all changes for that person by clicking Remove just under Filter by ID. You can also all changes instantly with clear, but that would clear any changes from the database you do want and and you've made yourself too.

Removing them from Database Changes will prevent them from even being added to the database in the first place.

How could I show you? Save it to Steam? I have never uploaded a file to somewhere in my life!

EDIT: I have just seen the drag file thing there, and I know how to get to the editor data in my files. However, noob question, if I drag it there is it going to copy it for you on here, or remove it from my editor data?

I changed the nation language to English, 100%. I moved all the cities over to Holland, and moved my own cities from England to the new nation. I'm just going to go and double check all these things, and check the local regions were moved over to Holland.........

I am going to try this next, thanks.

I do seem to have greatly reduced the amount of Dutch names myself by changing loads of English, Scottish and Welsh players with CA of less than 10 over to my new nation.

In fact, I've just realised that ALL the greyed out players have Dutch names, which seems strange.

But the newgens and the created players at the start seem to have mainly English names, but some Dutch.

If you drag it here, you won't remove it from your folder. It is just a copy that is made, no removal.

Through looking through this, I've just realised I've not deleted the languages for the nation, so I will go and do that now. I also saw there's a load of created Dutch names too, so I will go and delete them. The players aren't in my nation anymore, though, they are in Holland now, so I assumed they would just be Dutch.

I will do the languages first and see if that is a quick fix.

Right, the other guy created loads, but also edited loads. I don't want to delete any that were already in the game so it's safer to leave them all in for now. I already moved them all over to Holland anyway, so can't see how they'd affect my new nation. I will wait for @Wolf_pd to take a look at it, see if he can work out what is wrong.

I think I found it. It is in the language section. I looked up the changes to see if I could find anything special. What I noticed in the club section was that there were a lot of extra Frisian and Greenlandish teams. The latter are interesting for me for a project, but the Frisian were of my interest. Then I started checking for changed items in the city area.

Clicking one of the cities that were created for Holland I noticed something: The Frisian language set for this city.

And clicking on that language I got this. Fries (Frisian) is created as a language and probably because you reused the nation that was previously Frisia, it is still set as a language for the British Isles. That explains your issue. Set the Nation for Fries to Holland and you should see an improvement. You can also remove it if you want. 1000007 seems a newly made language to me.

I FINALLY found it, and @Wolf_pd, you're an absolute bloody legend! The amount of hours I have spent on this thing trying to work it out, is unreal, and you've just solved the puzzle for me! I removed those languages from my nation and all cities and local regions, etc, but it was needing to remove it from the database changes that was the issue.

Thanks a lot, massive thanks!
