Stuniverse
Preview -- -- Fredrikstad finished bottom of Eliteserien last season, but only on goal difference, and we think they'll give us a good test as we kick-off our pre-season today. We're away at Fredrikstad Stadion where we won 4-0 last season but I'm not reading anything into that result, nor the 9-0 victory back at our SR-Bank Arena in the reverse fixture. Stefan Leković has a bruised thigh and... ...Tor Helge Vatten is ill which is a real shame as I was going to give Tor Helge some playing time off the bench. Spoiler Henrik Skogvold is recovering from an ankle issue so we won't risk him today. -- Expected Line-up We'll be trying out some slight variations to our 4-4-2 diamond system today and we'll probably give the starters an hour and then bring the subs on for 30 minutes. Then we'll reverse that in our next friendly away at Sandefjord. Our three new signings will be on the bench but, as they've only just joined us, and haven't really trained with us yet, we'll probably leave them off the pitch until the next friendly. Stuniverse
Wednesday 12th January 2033 Fredrikstad (Tier 2) v Viking (Tier 1) Friendly -- -- For saying the players have had more time off than they've had training, I'm very pleased with how we played today. Going forward, we were very good, playing some breath taking football at times. We defended well, and restricted Fredrikstad to very few chances although, after we made all the substitutions on the hour mark, we did concede two soft goals in the last 14 minutes. But we scored four, had two more disallowed for offside, and the variations to the 4-4-2 diamond seemed to work.

Stuniverse
Thursday 13th January 2033 Viking Board Expectations For The New 2033 Season -- Those expectations seem fair enough to me although a minimum Top Four Eliteserien finish and reaching the Norgesmesterskapet i fotball (Cupen) Semi Final are less than we achieved last season. Reaching the UEFA Champions League League Phase may be trickier as we'll have the Third Qualifying Round, followed by the Playoff, to reach the League Phase next season (2033/34) so we'll need the luck of the draw. -- -- Oh, the Board have taken our current UEFA Champions League performance into consideration - still very confusing that the UEFA Champions League spans our last season and next season Edited June 9 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Preview -- -- Sandefjord finished second bottom of Eliteserien last season. We did the double over them winning 3-1 in our SR-Bank Arena and 4-0 when we played in their Jotun Arena. This will be a good test for us, away from home, in our last friendly before flying out to Barcelona to play our next UEFA Champions League match in Camp Nou. It will be a couple of weeks before we see new signing Tinius Sundell as he's recovering from a twisted ankle. Our other three new signings - Jonas Therkelsen, Hugo Vetlesen and Julian Gonstad - will all start today. Tor Helge Vatten remains sidelined with a virus. -- Expected Line-up We'll start a different 11 to the players who started against Fredrikstad and, again, we'll look to make 11 substitutions after an hour or so. Stuniverse
Saturday 15th January 2033 Sandefjord (Tier 2) v Viking (Tier 1) Friendly -- -- I know it's the same for both teams, but the snowy conditions out there on a white Jotun Arena pitch made it very difficult to play football. We dominated the match, and Sandefjord didn't have a single shot on target all match. We created our fair share of chances but had to be patient. Pontus Dahbo hit the post a minute into the second half. Anders Hartveit Ryste broke the deadlock on 81 minutes and Lasse Nordås made it 2-0 four minutes later. Unfortunately, Niklas Ødegård felt some tightness in his calf which makes him a doubt for our midweek UEFA Champions League match against Barcelona in Camp Nou. Stuniverse
Homegrown at Club issues... Stuniverse
Tuesday 18th January 2033 UEFA Champions League Squad Registration -- -- The different rules of needing to register four HGC players for UEFA Champions League, as against the two required for Eliteserien, meant I had some difficult choices to make and I knew I'd run the risk of upsetting players. I couldn't find room for Joakim Berg Nundal and he's already got a slight concern about being left out. I also, for now, left new signing Tinius Sundell out. I'll probably get away with it, for now, because he's nursing a twisted ankle but I'll need to register him at the next opportunity which should be ahead of the final League Phase match at home to Nice. I need to look into moving a couple of players on, as I have too many senior players in the first team squad right now. Stuniverse
Preview -- -- I've been looking forward to this one ever since last season finished. If you're not excited by the prospect of visiting Camp Nou to play Barcelona then you shouldn't be in this game. It was about this time of year, a couple of seasons ago, and Barcelona taught us real footballing lesson that night. We played our normal 4-4-2 diamond that night and really struggled to make any impact whatsoever. Our team has changed quite a bit since then, and I think we're a better team and squad now, but there's still that dilemma ahead of a game like this. Do we play our normal way and risk Barcelona blowing us away or do we change, play a way we don't normally play, or like playing to be honest, and look to shut of shop and try to contain Barcelona? We have a couple of players ruled out through injury, including our new signing, Norwegian international Tinius Sundell, and three players who are working their way back to full fitness. We probably won't start Niklas, Rafael or Julian but all three will be available off the bench should we need them. -- Expected Line-up Edited June 10 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Wednesday 19th January 2033 Barcelona (Spain) v Viking (Norway) UEFA Champions League -- -- -- Away to Barcelona, in Camp Nou, was probably the most difficult of difficult games in which to make your debut tonight. Hugo Vetlesen will have much better games for us. Yeah, I thought Jonas Therkelsen did ok, all things considered, on his debut. Barcelona are always going to be difficult opposition, and we were chasing shadows for the most part, but yes, Lamine Yamal was the best of the best tonight. He was unplayable in that first half. Our game plan to contain Barcelona lasted all of five minutes. We were two down nine minutes later. At that point we decided to change to something more like our normal shape... ... only to go three down while we were still adjusting on the pitch. By half-time, we were four down and had made four substitutions by the time the second half started. We were better after the break and created some good chances. Anders Hartveit Ryste was twice denied by good saves from Anatolii Trubin. Ironically, Barcelona caught us on the break to score their fifth. Their sixth and seventh goals came from our mistakes. First Jonas Therkelsen and Per Joar Hægstad Johnsen got in each others way on the edge of our penalty area and lost possession. Finally, Oscar Bobb passed back to our goalkeeper, Jasper Torkildsen, without looking and gave the ball away. -- -- Viking Players Refund Supporters Edited June 10 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Sunday 23rd January 2033 Berg Nundal Wants to Discuss Personal Matters -- -- This isn't unexpected, to be honest, as I knew when I left Joakim Berg Nundal out of the UEFA Champions League squad that it was likely to upset him. Unfortunately, though, we currently have too many senior players and I believe the strikers I picked over Joakim are better players. I do feel a bit sorry for Joakim as I only signed him in August 2032 but, due to hamstring and groin issues, he didn't get much playing time last season. Now that I've signed Julian Gonstad, Joakim has slipped further down the pecking order and there's no room for him in the Champions League squad. I'll need to be bad-cop with this one as I can't back down. -- -- -- -- I've put Joakim on the loan list and offered him out via TransferRoom. Whilst we've not had any bids for him yet, there are a couple of Eliteserien teams interested in taking Joakim on loan. -- Edited June 10 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Tuesday 25th January 2033 UEFA Champions League Squad Registration -- There's only one thing I want to do with this registration and that's to register our new signing, Norwegian international, Tinius Sundell. I didn't register him for the Barcelona game, because he was out with a twisted ankle, but I need to include him this time as I don't want to risk alienating him this early into his Viking career. Spoiler Despite being unhappy that I left him out of the squad to play Barcelona, I won't be backing down so Joakim Berg Nundal will remain unregistered. Spoiler -- The question is, who do I leave out to make room for Tinius? As Tinius is a central midfielder, the most obvious player to leave out would be Lasse Berg Johnson but, unfortunately, he's a HGC player so I need him right now for squad registration purposes. Spoiler So it'll have to be Sindre Grønvold as he's already unhappy because we rejected a bid from Spezia that didn't meet our valuation. We've agreed to let him go if a £2.8M bid is received but, now, I'm thinking I'd accept less than that due to the current dynamics situation. Spoiler If necessary, Per Andreas Haugerud Hagen can provide cover at right-back and, as he's U21, Per Andreas doesn't need to be registered for the Champions League. Stuniverse
Tuesday 25th January 2033 Berg Nundal Loan Bids -- We've received two loan bids for Joakim Berg Nundal. We've rejected the bid from Bodø/Glimt but accepted the one from Strømsgodset who we signed Joakim from last August. Stuniverse
Preview -- Following last night's results, we can no longer qualify qualify automatically for the knockout phase but we're guaranteed playoffs. Nice, though, need a result to guarantee their playoff spot and that's going to make them a very dangerous opponent. We're at home though in our SR-Bank Arena and we're confident of finishing our League Phase with a good result. We have a few players not quite fully fit yet. Stuniverse
Wednesday 26th January 2033 Viking (Norway) v Nice (France) UEFA Champions League -- -- -- This was an odd first half, very odd indeed. We knew Nice would be fired up as they needed a win to make the playoffs and they started unbelievably well, pinning us back in our own half, taking the lead as early as the first minute, then doubling their lead after nine minutes. On the bench, we were discussing whether to make changes or not, when we started to get a foothold in the game and get some attacking momentum. Anders Hartveit Ryste pulled a goal back on 18 minutes and on 27 minutes we were level from a corner after the Nice goalkeeper fumbled Lasse Nordås's far post header over the line. Five minutes before half time, Lasse Nordås scored and we were 3-2 up at the break. The second half was all us and we added two more through a Jonas Therkelsen thunderbolt on 71 minutes and a stunning 83rd minute free-kick from Pontus Dahbo. Nice were on top for the opening 10 minutes and we controlled the game from then on. --
