Stuniverse Posted Thursday at 18:44 Author Share Posted Thursday at 18:44 Thursday 15th January 2037 Hødd (OBOS-ligaen) v Viking (Eliteserien) Friendly -- -- -- It's always nice to return to my former stomping ground, Høddvoll. The objective today was to give 22 Viking players 45 minutes each and we did that without picking up any injuries. We also looked comfortable throughout and we're pleased with the win. I wish Hødd all the best for the season as they attempt to bounce back to Eliteserien at the first attempt.

Stuniverse Posted Friday at 06:33 Author Share Posted Friday at 06:33 Preview - Napoli (away) UEFA Champions League League Path -- -- It will be a few more weeks before Bill Freeman is ready to return to training. We've played Napoli once before during my time at Viking and gained a narrow victory back in 2031 in our SR-Bank Arena. This time we're away and it will be much tougher in the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. The style of play has been very successful for us in recent seasons but, with a lot of new players, the challenge will be to integrate them into this way of playing. -- Expected Line-up
Stuniverse Posted Friday at 07:23 Author Share Posted Friday at 07:23 Tuesday 20th January 2037 Napoli (Italy) v Viking (Norway) UEFA Champions League League Path -- -- -- We had six debutants today, four starting, two off the bench, but Anders Hartveit Ryste set the marker out today to show them how we want Viking to play. It was a frustrating game. Napoli pressed us from the kick-off and we struggled to keep hold of the ball when we had possession. Napoli scored in the first minute and it was uphill after that. But we settled into the game and did much better after the break. Unfortunately, despite an improved second half performance, Napoli doubled their lead on 58 minutes, but Anders Hartveit Ryste pulled one back five minutes later and that gave us belief. By 68 minutes we had all our substitutes on, changed our shape slightly with wingers, rather than inverted wingers, went with more of an Attacking mentality, and I thought we were the better team in the last 20 plus minutes. Anders Hartveit Ryste equalised and we had chances to win it but it wasn't to be as Napoli scored a very late winner. It's fine margins. In added-on time, Yordan Valeria made a fine save to deny Anders Hartveit Ryste his hat-trick, a third goal that would've won the match and then Napoli score the winner at the other end. Maybe at 2-2 I should've gone back to Balanced but we were in the ascendancy playing Attacking and I wanted to win the match. Faniel Tewelde will have better games. We play with inverted wingers, but Faniel prefers to play as a winger, so that may be something we need to think about. We knew what we were getting when we signed Alf Erik Frafjord and he showed glimpses of that tonight. Rolf Jøran Stavang came on in the first half when Håvard Vestmoen got injured and Rolf Jøran definitely made an impression with his performance. We have one League Path match left away to RB Leipzig and, unfortunately, we can no longder qualify automatically for the Round of 16 and we still need a point to guarantee our Playoff spot. --
Stuniverse Posted Friday at 07:28 Author Share Posted Friday at 07:28 (edited) Tuesday 20th January 2037 Champions League Registration Issues -- Unfortunately, because of a shortage of Homegrown Club players over 21, we've been unable to register a full 25 senior players and are two short. Stuniverse Posted Friday at 07:35 Author Share Posted Friday at 07:35 Wednesday 21st January 2037 Milan Sign Blok -- Spoiler It's a shame we didn't get to see Stefan Blok in a Viking shirt but, with the good Norwegian centre-backs we have at this club, including young Benjamin Fabian Vold, this was too good an opportunity to stand in Stefan's way. And the £10 million will come in very handy as well.

To be honest, this one had snuck under my radar as I'd missed the emails. If I'd seen them, I would've pulled the plug earliser. We've played RB Leipzig once before, a goalless draw back in 2031. It won't be easy in the RB Arena, but we go there knowing we need at least a point to guarantee our Playoff spot. -- Expected Line-up

Stuniverse Posted Sunday at 22:26 Author Share Posted Sunday at 22:26 Friday 6th February 2037 Hønefoss (OBOS-ligaen) v Viking (Eliteserien) Friendly -- -- Hønefoss were relegated from Eliteserien last season. We thought they'd give us a good challenge in their AKA Arena. To be fair, we were outstanding today and blew Hønefoss away. On another day, we could easily have scored double figures. The plan was to give the starters an hour and then bring on 11 substitutes but a couple of first half knocks, plus a yellow card for Tinius Sundell, meant we made three changes at half time. The rest of the subs came on after 53 and 59 minutes.

Stuniverse
Tuesday 10th February 2037 Hamarkameratene (OBOS-ligaen) v Viking (Eliteserien) Friendly -- Hamarkameratene finished 3rd in OBOS-ligaen last season and lost out in the Eliteserien / OBOS-ligaen Playoff Final to Haugesund. Like Hønefoss four days ago, we've arranged this friendly expecting a difficult match against Hamarkameratene in their Briskeby Stadion. -- -- -- Conditions were snowy when Hamarkameratene kicked-off in their Briskeby Stadion. As the light snow continued to fall, we took the lead on 14 minutes through Håvard Vestmoen. But we didn't think it was a foul by Øyvind Bekkevold which gave Hamarkameratene a 29th minute equaliser from the penalty spot. Not long after that, Øyvind Bekkevold took a bang on his shin and we decided to nurse him through to the break, when we replaced him with Nguyen Cong Thanh who had only arrived at Viking earlier today. We regained the lead on 54 minutes when Marcus Liabø volleyed the ball into the top corner from the D of the penalty area. Shortly after, Benjamin Fabian Vold stretched our lead to two goals with an acrobatic, overhead kick at the far post from Kasper Jakbobsen's corner. With 18 minutes to go, we sent on some of the young players from the Second Team.

Stuniverse
Preview - Atletico Madrid (away) UEFA Champions League Rd of 16 Playoff First Leg -- -- -- Benjamin Thoresen Faraas is only just back in training after a spell out with injury and he won't feature tonight so, if Bradley Carnell is travelling to Madrid and the Estadio Metropolitano then he'll have a wasted journey. But Benjamin does have competition for places in that wide left area with Kasper Jakobsen, new signing Faniel Tewelde plus Nafu Seyffarth arriving in July so who knows what the future may hold. Spoiler We haven't played Atletico Madrid during my time at Viking but any team who reaches this stage of the Champions League is a very good team. We're expecting a very difficult challenge in the Estadio Metropolitano. That totally depends on the outcome of the first leg. We have to make sure we're still in the tie by the time we get Atletico Madrid back to our SR-Bank Arena. -- Expected Line-up -- Well... that's confidence inspiring. Stuniverse
Tuesday 17th February 2037 Atletico Madrid (Spain) v Viking (Norway) UEFA Champions League Rd of 16 Playoff First Leg -- -- -- Once again we learnt a harsh Champions League lesson tonight. We have to take our chances because the opposition will, and Atletico Madrid certainly did. I didn't think we deserved to be three-down, on the balance of play I'm not sure we deserved to be down at all, so we felt we deserved it on 90+3 minutes when Alf Erik Frafjord gave us a lifeline for the second leg, he intercepted the ball in Atletico's half, ran forward with it, then unleashed a shot from outside the penalty area that flew into the bottom corner. Deflection or not, it was a great goal. We were aggrieved early on when Håvard Vestmoen was clean through only to be taken out from behind but the referee only awarded a yellow card, not a red card. It was end-to-end and, unfortunately, Atletico Madrid scored first after 14 minutes. Atletico then made it 2-0 seven minutes later, heading in a corner at the far post. We kept going and caused Atletico problems, Joel Álvez made some fine saves and their defenders blocked and charged down a number of our efforts. During the interval we encouraged the players, gave them belief, and we were much better after the break and were on top for long periods. We made Joel Álvez and the Atletico defenders work very hard, but we couldn't score. On the hour mark, Costel Tilincă went down in the penalty area but the referee said no penalty. And then three minutes later, totally against the second half run-of-play, Atletico scored a third goal. Two goals down going into the second leg at our SR-Bank Arena, we're not out of it by any means but we'll need a real concerted effort by everybody to turn it around. I'm starting to wonder if when we get to the Playoff / Knockout Phase of the Champions League, whether we maybe need to be more circumspect (Balanced or Cautious) in the away leg, particularly when the first leg is away from home? Instead of our usual Positive. We get away with it in Eliteserien and the League Path but the Champions League Round of 16 Playoff always seems to be a step too far. Not that I'm throwing the towel in against Atletico Madrid, as we still have 90 minutes, possibly extra-time and penalties, to play in the second leg in our SR-Bank Arena. -- Tagged: @Blarney, @BML, @Carambau, @cerud, @Dean Gripton, @Deisler26, @filip_croatia, @g1nh0, @Hootieleece, @I have nothing to say, @JaytheGreat, @Jogo Bonito, @oche balboa, @phnompenhandy, @Paggioram, @Punch, @samboing, @SixPointer, @Vakama2619, @warlock, @XaW Note: If you no longer wish to be tagged in posts like this, please let me know by Direct Message and I'll remove you from my tag list for future posts.
