Stuniverse Posted Tuesday at 21:07 Author Share Posted Tuesday at 21:07 Sunday 29th June 2036 Brann (5th) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien Best i vest derby -- Well the biggest challenge was having to play our Curpen Third Round tie away at Strømsgodset without all our players who were away on international duty. Yesterday, we didn't have enough players to fill our substitutes bench. Unfortunately Norway and Romania were knocked out of the European Championships yesterday but, as it was only a short flight back from Glasgow, we've included them into the match day squad today. Hans Jørgen Solberg, Jasper Torkildsen and Tor Helge Vatten didn't get any minutes in the European Championships so they're more likely to play a part in the Best i vest derby than the others. -- -- -- -- We're not looking to sell any of our best players and that includes Bill Freeman. I didn't think it was much of a game to be honest. It was very stop-start, there were a lot of niggly fouls, neither team could get any flow or momentum and there were few chances for either team. To be fair, after everything we've gone through this last two-to-three weeks I wasn't expecting a performance against Brann. I just wanted us to work hard, compete, and hopefully that would be enough to get a result. Fortunately it was. The players were a real credit and I'm delighted to have won the Best i vest derby in Brann Stadion thanks to a sensational long-range strike from Eirik Bakk in the 33rd minute. I have to give a special mention to Hans Jørgen Solberg and Tor Helge Vatten. Last night they sat on the Norway bench in Celtic Park and watched Norway go out of the European Championships, beaten in extra-time by Turkiye. This morning they were in Glasgow, they caught a plane and travelled back home. Then I asked them to play a full 90 minutes against Brann. That's real commitment to the Viking cause right there. We took Benjamin Thoresen Faraas off just before half time after he took a knock to his knee. Bill Freeman hit the bar after 52 minutes. We thought we'd doubled our lead just after the hour mark but Henrique Araújo was fractionally offside. In the 75th minute the referee awarded a penalty against Per Joar Hægstad Johnsen. We thought Per Joar had won the ball fairly. VAR sent the referee to the monitor and, after reviewing the footage, he changed his mind. No penalty. Edvin Austbø hit the post on 82 minutes. We weren't at our best today, understandably so under the circumstances, but I think we kept Brann very quiet and deserved the victory. --
Stuniverse Posted Tuesday at 21:26 Author Share Posted Tuesday at 21:26 (edited) Monday 30th June 2036 An Unhappy Captain -- -- -- -- -- I think Jasper Torkildsen is a brilliant goalkeeper, but I also think that Hans Jørgen Solberg is a slightly better goalkeeper with more potential, pus Hans Jørgen is younger. But Hans Jørgen Solberg is out-of-contract at the end of next season and I need him to commit to a longer-term contract before I can commit to him as Viking's #1 goalkeeper. Consequently, rightly or wrongly, I went into the meeting with my captain Jasper Torkildsen looking to keep him onside. On 23/09/2024 at 11:56, Stuniverse said: Thursday 29th May 2036 Solberg Keeping His Options Open -- -- Reveal hidden contents Now that I'm seriously leaning towards Hans Jørgen Solberg being Viking's #1 goalkeeper, I really need him to extend his contract and commit to Viking long-term (as Jasper Torkildsen has already done). So I had a word with his agent. Which is a shame because Jasper Torkildsen (who was brilliant against Lillestrøm the other day in Cupen) has extended his stay at Viking until 31st December 2039. Reveal hidden contents -- If Hans Jørgen Solberg won't extend his contract then, at some point this season, I'm going to have to go back to Jasper Torkildsen being Viking's #1 and look to sell Hans Jørgen for a transfer fee because I can't risk a player of his ability walking away on a free at the end of his contract. I get it, of course I do, I'd be hypocritical if I didn't as I'm also waiting until after the UEFA European Football Championship... ... to see if Kjetil Knutsen does actually step-down as I'd be very keen on applying for the Norway manager's job. Stuniverse Posted Tuesday at 23:04 Author Share Posted Tuesday at 23:04 (edited) Preview - Vålerenga (home) Eliteserien -- -- -- Benjamin Thoresen Faraas spent three seasons at Vålerenga. Ironically because, when they signed him from Strømsgodset, we'd also agreed a fee with Strømsgodset and were in negotiations with Benjamin and his agent, but he chose Vålerenga over us. Now he's a Viking player and we're delighted to have him here. I'm very appreciative of Mesay Dego's comments and he's gone up in my estimation now. It's intense, but it does add something a bit special. Vålerenga are chasing us hard this season and in the last four Eliteserien seasons, Vålerenga have been in the mix every time, just as we have. It's good to have a competitive rival like Vålerenga to push us on to do even better. Jens Hjertø-Dahl is nowhere near a return and, sadly, he's one of a number of players on our ever-growing injury list. -- Expected Line-up Edited Tuesday at 23:11 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse Posted Wednesday at 00:15 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 00:15 (edited) Saturday 5th July 2036 Viking (1st) v Vålerenga (3rd) Eliteserien -- -- -- -- I had a good chat with Mesay Dego after the game. Mesay's disappointed, of course, losing a chance to close the gap at the top, but I told him that Vålerenga gave us a very difficult time out there and he should be proud of his players. The players enjoy playing in our SR-Bank Arena and our magnificent de mørkeblå supporters play a huge part in that. We got off to a bad start, but responded brilliantly and, I felt, deserved the victory in the end. Vålerenga went route one with their first attack after three minutes, their goalkeeper Adrian Grama kicked the ball long down the middle, Aleksander Liland and Ove Benjamin Modell hesitated and left it to each other and Gabriel Silva, a player who played for me at Hødd on loan from Sporting, ran onto it and scored from 20 yards. Three minutes later, we equalised through a brilliant, individual goal against his former club by Benjamin Thoresen Faraas, finishing with a shot past Adrian Grama with the outside of his right foot. The rest of the first half was end-to-end without too many chances being created. We always felt we were in it, but Vålerenga probably had the slightly better chances. We defended well and Hans Jørgen Solberg made a couple of fine saves. At half time, we made two substitutions to freshen things up a bit. 10 minutes into the second half, we took the lead for the first time when Bill Freeman scored with a curling shot from the edge of the penalty area. We wrapped it up a minute into added-on time when Jan Rune Hansen's shot deflected off the back of a Vålerenga defender into the back of the net. A minute later, Adrian Grama made a fine save to turn Sven Arne Austevik's header against the post. -- Late on, Tinius Sundell was struggling but we'd made all our substitutions so he had to play on. -- -- Edited Wednesday at 00:39 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse Posted Wednesday at 13:56 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 13:56 Preview - Sogndal (home) Eliteserien -- -- -- Edvin Austbø is thriving on the attention although we're resting him today to give Ola Johannes Kleppa Christensen a start in our game-in-hand at home to Sogndal. Sogndal have done well recently, granted, although four of those six games were draws and they were knocked out of Cupen by Rosenborg last Wednesday. Yes, we will. Jasper Torkildsen takes the gloves today off Hans Jørgen Solberg. It may be mission impossible, but now that both goalkeepers have signed long-term contracts I'm going to try and keep them both happy. Aleksander Liland is one yellow card away from suspension so we're going to rest him today, hopefully if we can, so that he's ready for our visit to 2nd-placed Odds Ballklubb on Sunday. Yes, we don't like to rush any player back from injury so we won't be taking any risks when Anders Hartveit Ryste is ready to play again. We have a long injury list at the moment and we could only just fill the substitute's bench. -- Expected Line-up
Stuniverse Posted Wednesday at 13:56 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 13:56 Wednesday 9th July 2036 Viking (1st) v Sogndal (7th) Eliteserien -- Spoiler -- -- Spoiler Ondřej Žák (7.7) made some great saves in Sogndal's goal and, over 90 pus minutes, we were unable to get the ball past him. Partly that was down to poor finishing on our part but, mainly, I think Ondřej Žák should take a lot of the credit. Overall, I thought we were by far the better team. Jasper Torkildsen, in our goal, didn't have a single shot to save. We made a few substitutions to freshen things up and, in the closing minutes, we changed to an Attacking mentality. Unfortunately, it proved to be Ondřej Žák's night and not ours. --
Stuniverse Posted Wednesday at 14:28 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 14:28 (edited) Preview - Odds Ballklubb (away) Eliteserien -- -- -- Spoiler We signed Stefan Blok in pre-season from Venlo and sent him on loan to Odds Ballklubb as he wasn't going to get much playing time with us this season. Stefan's been playing very well for Odd, so I'm not surprised that Olof Mellberg would like to keep him, but we have no intention of selling Stefan Blok. If Stefan plays today, it will be very interesting to see how he gets on trying to stop Henrique Araújo and Bill Freeman. Olof Mellberg is doing an amazing job at Odds Ballklubb this season and, as a lifelong Oddrane, I'm very pleased to see it. We travel to the Skagerak Arena in Skien with Odd in 2nd place, 10 points behind us. It's a top-of-the-table clash and the result is important to both teams. As I said, I've supported Odds Ballklubb all my life so there's no way I'd speak in a patronising way about them. -- Expected Line-up Edited Wednesday at 14:59 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse Posted Wednesday at 15:36 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 15:36 (edited) Sunday 13th July 2036 Odds Ballklubb (3rd) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- -- -- Odd started the game brightly and it was end-to-end for the first 20 minutes or so. But we were more ruthless than Odd were. Bill Freeman's 22nd minute strike gave us the lead and Henrique Araújo doubled our lead on 31 minutes. There was no more scoring although we always looked more likely to add a third, than Odd were to score as Hans Jørgen Solberg only had one shot to save in our goal, although Odd dud curl a 64th minute free-kick around our wall and hit the post. It was good to be able to give Mikkel Fjellandsbø some decent playing time and Mikkel hit a tremendous strike from 30 yards out on 83 minutes which Kerim Alhas did very well to reach at full stretch and turn around the post for a corner. Yes, we knew we'd have to compete against Odd in front of the Oddrane inside Skagerak Arena and compete we did. We substituted two players on yellow cards at half-time, two more on 54 minutes and another on 63 minutes by which time we'd used all our substitutes. On 75 minutes, we felt the game was won and told our players to Stay On Feet. -- -- -- Edited Wednesday at 15:44 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse Posted Wednesday at 16:28 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 16:28 (edited) Monday 14th July 2036 My Agent Calls about the Norway Job -- Hedda Berg: Hi, Stuni. How are you? Stuni Stuniverse: Very good, thanks. You? Hedda Berg: Yes, I'm great. Congratulations on your win over Odd yesterday! Stuni Stuniverse: Thank you. It's always strange when we play Odd, being as I'm a lifelong Oddrane, but I'm starting to get used to it. Hedda Berg: Did you watch the European Championship Final? Stuni Stuniverse: Yeah, Odd kindly invited us to stay behind at the Skagerak Arena and watch it on a massive widescreen TV. So we did. We got home late, but it was worth it. Hedda Berg: What did you think? Stuni Stuniverse: I thought it was an entertaining, pretty even game. If France had scored that penalty to equalise at 2-2 then I'm not sure England win. But the penalty save gave England a massive lift and you could see the French body language drop. Hedda Berg: Well, just as he said he would, Kjetil Knutsen has stepped down as Norway manager. What are your thoughts now it's not hypothetical and the Norway manager's job is available? Stuni Stuniverse: I'm excited... but trying not to get ahead of myself. Hedda Berg: You'd still like the job, then? Stuni Stuniverse: Oh, yes. I'd jump at the chance if the NFF (Norges FotballForbund) were to offer me the job. So what do we do now? Hedda Berg: I'll let the NFF know that you're very interested in the job and then we keep our fingers crossed and wait. You've got an excellent CV, you're Norwegian, so hopefully the NFF (Norges FotballForbund) will look favourably on your application. Stuni Stuniverse: Thank you. Fingers crossed. Stuniverse Posted Thursday at 07:15 Author Share Posted Thursday at 07:15 -- Preview - Strømsgodset (home) Eliteserien -- -- We've played Strømsgodset twice this season, both away from home in their Marienlyst Stadion and we won in Eliteserien. But then, in a Cupen-tie where we were missing a lot of players on international duty, Edvin Austbø scored in the first minute only for us to eventually lose by the odd goal in three. We have quite an injury list still, and Benjamin Thoresen Faraas is suspended, but it would be nice to show Strømsgodset what we're capable of. With all the interest in Bill Freeman (we've already rejected 14 bids for him this month), Håvard Vestmoen is a striker we've looked at in terms of a potential replacement for Bill, but Håvard doesn't come cheap either in terms of transfer fee or wages. Spoiler The achilles injury to Anders Hartveit Ryste has left us short of strikers, another reason we were looking into signing Håvard Vestmoen, and it's a big ask for the youngsters Sven Arne Austevik and Morten Synnes so I think it very unlikely we will loan Anders Hartveit Ryste out. Anders Hartveit Ryste is back in training but the Strømsgodset match will be too soon for him. Mikkel Fjellandsbø has passed a fitness test and will be on the bench in case we need him. His fractured ribs are healing well, but Andrei Şomfălean will be out a few more weeks yet. We need to get players back as we do have quite a long injury list still. -- Expected Line-up

Stuniverse Posted Thursday at 08:00 Author Share Posted Thursday at 08:00 (edited) -- Sunday 20th July 2036 Viking (1st) v Strømsgodset (8th) Eliteserien -- -- -- I must've missed one as I can only remember two. We were magnificent today and, to be honest, I don't think Strømsgodset knew what had hit them. Bill Freeman hit the post with a second minute free-kick. Six minutes before half time, Ola Johannes Kleppa Christensen broke the deadlock with a fierce shot. It was total first half dominance as Strømsgodset didn't have a single attempt on our goal in the first 45. D'oh! I'm an idiot sometimes. I hadn't realised we'd asked Bill Freeman to play F9 (a hangover from the previous match) so we changed that to CF during the break. Five minutes after the restart, Henrique Araújo hit the post but Bill Freeman was there to score from the rebound. We kept Håvard Vestmoen so quiet that Petter Sjåholm replaced him just after the hour. On 74 minutes, Ove Benjamin Modell headed in Costel Tilincă's corner at the near post. We hit the woodwork for a second time when Aleksander Liland's 85th minute free-kick rattled the bar. We were outstanding today. That's arguably, the most complete, the most almost perfect performance during my time here at Viking. We were so in control that Strømsgodset didn't register a single attempt on goal and our goalkeeper, Jasper Torkildsen, wasn't tested once. -- Evening Result Edited Thursday at 08:13 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse Posted Thursday at 08:44 Author Share Posted Thursday at 08:44 (edited) -- Monday 21st July 2036 Norway Press Conference - New Manager -- -- That's the plan, obviously, but we're in a very difficult Nations League Group that also includes England, the recently crowned European Champions. At Viking we've been relatively successful in Europe and reached a Europa League Final but this, clearly, with Norway is a step up again. I wouldn't be here though if I didn't think I could do the job and, more importantly, the NFF (Norges FotballForbund) wouldn't have appointed me if they had any doubts. Yeah, it's going to be a challenge. At Viking we're chasing another Eliteserien title and will have a European Champions League League Path campaign, but we're out of Cupen, ironically because we lost a lot of players to International duty when we lost to Strømsgodset in the Third Round. It's not as if the Viking players are strangers to playing for Norway. Kjetil Knutsen called six of them up for his European Championship squad, another missed out through injury, and other Viking players have been named in Norway squads during the last 12-18 months. In the short-term, at least, I think it definitely makes sense as I know the Viking players very, very well. I've always believed in taking things one game at a time. Spain are Norway's next opponents so we prepare for that game. No, not really. The way we play at Viking is very successful for us but that doesn't mean it will be successful at International level. It may be how we'll get Norway to play, it may not. I think we'll be using this Nations League campaign to experiment with tactics and players. Spoiler Mads Fredrik Ruud Irgens is a great player, no doubt about it, and he's really stepped up for Norway after Erling Haaland retired from International Football after the last World Cup. But it's far too early to say how we will set Norway up to play and which players will be involved. No. Of course not. We will look to pick the form players who deserve to play but, obviously, managing Viking as well will limit my opportunities to get out about around Europe to watch the Norwegian players as much as I'd like. I know those players who play in Eliteserien very well, but those playing outside of Norway well... that's going to take some time.
