I got propositioned last night when I was working my bar shift at the Alvoen Country Mansion. Quite a lot of locals were in, celebrating Loddefjord's home win over Eiger. I recognised them all after nearly two seasons here, but I didn't recognise the woman who came up to the bar, ordered an aquavit, introduced herself as Hedda Berg and asked me to come over to her table when I had a break.

Hedda: Congratulations on the win over Eiger, Stuni, and your amazing campaign with Loddefjord this season.

Stuniverse: Thank you. You have me at a disadvatage.

Hedda: Oh, sorry, of course, I know who you are but don't have a clue who I am. I'm Hedda Berg... and I'm a football agent.

She extended her right hand and I shook it.

Stuniverse: Pleased to meet you.

Hedda: Likewise. Is it ok to ask you a personal question?

Stuniverse: Of course. Sure.

Hedda: Are you happy at Loddefjord?

Stuniverse: Of course. We're top of the league with four matches to go and are unbeaten in our last 17. What's not to be happy about?

Hedda: But are you really happy?

Stuniverse: Yes.

Hedda: Are you sure? Wouldn't you like to be paid for what you do?

Stuniverse: Well, yeah, who wouldn't... but we've only just gone semi-professional, I'm sure Petter Bjerke [ChairPerson] will sort stuff like that at the end of the season.

Hedda: You'd think so, wouldn't you?

Stuniverse: Huh?

Hedda: Look, I'm an agent. I have contacts. I hear things. Would you like to know what I've heard?

Stuniverse: Go on then...

Hedda: So, as I hear it, Mr Bjerke is readying himself to offer you a new contract but, despite being semi-professional, he'll offer you the same terms, an amateur contract, no wages, I assume you'll still have your board and lodging here in exchange for bar and waiter work.

Stuniverse: We're paying the players and our Director of Football is negotiating new deals.

Hedda: Yeah, but you don't pay all the players though, do you? 

Stuniverse: Not all of them, no, but we pay the better ones.

Hedda: Talking of which, I also hear that the Board will be reducing your wage budget next season so you'll have less to pay your players with. And the Board's expectation next season, despite how brilliantly you've done this season, will be to fight against relegation, irrespective of which division you're in. Obviously I wish you all the best and hope you go up but, if you don't, if you're still in Norsk Tipping-ligaen Avdeling 3, the Board will only fund Loddefjord for a relegation battle.

Stuniverse: You can't possibly know any of that. Petter hasn't discussed any of that with me yet, we're  all focussed on the final promotion push.

Hedda: I'm just being honest with you, as I am with all my clients...

Stuniverse: I'm not your client.

Hedda: I know, but I'd like you to be. There's a number of football clubs looking for managers at the moment and I know I could get better for you.

I had to go back to page 1 to remind myself of the principles of this career. You're not a one-man-club sort; you were unemployed and open to any offers. So if another club offer you better terms and more investment in a squad, I suppose the logical thing is to consider it.

First against second, they don't come much bigger than this.

A win would see us leap-frog Viking 2 and put everything in our own  hands (or feet, if you prefer) going into the final match of the season.

A draw keeps us second but still alive with a chance of promotion on the final day.
