Stuniverse
Preview Vålerenga (2nd) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- Cheers, Ole. -- -- Our captain David Brekalo and goalkeeper returned unscathed from International duty. I usually have a recovery session after every match. I also do an extra recovery session in between matches that are close together (less than 3 days) I would rather the players spend more time with the Physios and Sports Scientists than mindlessly running laps or kicking the ball about. Also important to all of this is squad morale. I generally do a community relations session before every home game and a Team bonding session after every match there is room for it. Match Review is more important in my opinion unless morale is low and your team is on a losing streak.
Stuniverse
Sunday 14th October 2029 Vålerenga (2nd) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- -- -- This was a massive win for us. I'm delighted with the players. We took the lead on 11 minutes, when Yorbe Vertessen scored with our first attempt on goal. It was against the run of play and we continued to fight a rear-guard action. Somehow a combination of resolute defending, excellent goalkeeping by Patrik Sigurður Gunnarsson, and poor finishing by Vålerenga maintained our slender lead. I thought it was only a matter of time before Vålerenga scored so, after about 39 minutes, we changed to a Balanced mentality and a more defensive shape. After the break we got more of a foothold in the game and the second half was more even. Two minutes into added-on time, Oscar Bobb scored our second goal of the game and secured a massive three points for us. Ole Gunnar Solskjær was a great host. He has good taste in wine too. -- Edited March 21 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Sunday 21st October 2029 Viking (1st) v Sogndal (9th) Eliteserien -- Yesterday's Result -- -- -- Sogndal are a very well organised team who play in a way that makes them very difficult to break down. We got one goal, just before half time when David Brekalo headed home Lasse Berg Johnsen's corner at the far post. We couldn't get a second but one was enough as we didn't allow Sogndal a single attempt on target. -- -- -- Edited March 21 by Stuniverse

Well played, mate Thank you, @warlock After the Stabæk and Lillestrøm games I wasn’t confident but it was good timing as the international break allowed me to pick a fully fit, full strength team to play Valerenga. We rode our luck somewhat in the first half, but after I changed shape we were much more competitive after the break. It wasn’t a comfortable win, but 2-0 in Valerenga’s back yard was massive. Four points clear with five games to play, it’s ours to win (or lose) now! Edited March 22 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
To Rest, or Not To Rest? Thanks for your input @Hootieleece @Jogo Bonito and @warlock into managing the squad across multiple competitions and resting players. We are guaranteed third place minimum and, by my calculations, if we win four of our remaining five matches we will be crowned Eliteserien Chamions. IF we win them. I've decided that, at this stage of the season, it's more important that the players are rested than that they train. Although I think it depends when during the FM24-game-day I rest them because sometimes when I rest a player for, say, two days the game rests him for two days but sometimes it adds an extra day on and rests him for three days. Be just my luck to rest the players for too long and then have nobody available for a BIG match Edited March 22 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Preview Viking (Norway) v Sporting Clube de Portugal (Portugal) UEFA Europa League -- -- -- The week's rest we gave the payers during the recent International break appears to have helped Valeriy Bondar and Oscar Bobb get over their jadedness. Our captain, David Brekalo, was away with Slovenia and is still jaded. -- Expected Line-up Valeriy Bondar and El Hadji Malick Diouf are both suspended for the next Eliteserien match against Rosenborg so it makes sense for them to start against Sporting today. Stuniverse
Thursday 25th October 2029 Viking (Norway) v Sporting Clube de Portugal (Portugal) UEFA Europa League -- -- -- This was a very tight match against Sporting Clube de Portugal with very few chances. Edvin Austbø finished off an excellent team passing move to give us the lead but Sporting equalised just before the break. We nearly won it late on, from an unexpcted source, when Martin Palumbo chipped a corner to the edge of the penalty area, but their goalkeeper tipped Valeriy Bondar's volley over the bar. It was always the plan to give Oscar Aga and Yorbe Vertessen 45 minutes each and to substitute key players between 60-70 minutes. Possibly we could've won this one if I wasn't half-thinking about the next Eliteserien match against Rosenborg. --

Stuniverse
Preview Rosenborg (8th) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- -- My Assistant Manager, Egil Ulfstein, wanted us to hold a team meeting but I said no. I think it's too early with five Eliteserien matches remaining. Last season, during the run-in, we held a team meeting ahead of every game in the run-in and, whilst the players were all motivated, they went out and played very nervously. Stuniverse
Sunday 28th October 2029 Rosenborg (9th) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- Yesterday's Result -- -- -- Maybe my assistant manager, Egil Ulfstein, was right and we should have held that team meeting after all. But let's not forget Rosenborg are a good team, with some very good players, and we saw that today. It was a tight game, with very few chances, that was decided on fine margins. Fair play to Rosenborg, they grabbed an eighth minute goal, after we'd started brightly, and that lifted them and made it more difficult for us. Just before the break, I honestly thought we'd equalised. Brice Wembangomo hit a thunderous shot from the corner of the penalty area that was flying into the top corner. I was right behind it from my view in the technical area and it looked a goal for sure... then, out of nowhere, a flying Alexander Austad, at full-stretch, somehow got a glove to the ball and tipped it over the bar. We have a superb goalkeeper in Patrik Sigurður Gunnarsson but that save from Alexander Austad is the best save I've seen this season. At half-time we made a couple of substitutions and asked our full-backs to attack more. Just before the 70 minute mark we changed our shape to be more Attacking but also lost Oscar Aga to an ankle injury which was a blow as he'd already come on as a sub to replace Edvin Austbø so we finished the game without two of our three main strikers. It's a disappointing defeat, no doubt about it, but we go again next time out against Molde. We have to keep our fingers crossed that Strømsgodset can do us a favour tonight against Vålerenga. -- Edited March 22 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Sunday 4th November 2029 Viking (1st) v Molde (7th) Eliteserien -- Yesterday's Result -- -- -- After the disappointing defeat to Rosenborg last time out, I'm so proud of the players today for bouncing back so emphatically. We know this may go down to the wire and goal difference could yet decide it, so I make no apologies for keeping our foot to the gas. 5-0 is a result I hope the 14,000 or thereabouts Viking fans inside the SR-Bank Arena will saviour for a long, long time. It does put the pressure on Vålerenga because we won, but they would have expected us to win at home any way. If we'd lost, would that have eased the pressure on them tonight? Whatever our result was, I don't think it changes anything for Ole Gunnar Solskjær and his Vålerenga team. Stuniverse
Preview Slavia Praha (Czechia) v Viking (Norway) UEFA Europa League -- -- The injury to our #2 goalkeeper has caused me something of a selection headache based on the squad registration rules. Stuniverse
Thursday 8th November 2029 Slavia Praha (Czechia) v Viking (Norway) UEFA Europa League -- -- -- I'm delighted with this win coming, as it did, on the back of a magnificent defensive display. We're thought of as an attacking team but, tonight, we had to defend and defend for our lives. Edvin Austbø gave us an early lead but Slavia Praha put us under a lot of pressure after that. Patrik Sigurður Gunnarsson was beyond excellent in our goal. His penalty save on 38 minutes was world class and inspired the rest of us. Unfortunately, though, a fantastic evening was marred as we picked up three injuries and it looks like Martin Palumbo, Oscar Bobb and Edvin Austbø will all miss Cupen Final. -- --
Stuniverse
Preview Odds Ballklubb (5th) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- -- I guess, a Vålerenga-Bodø/Glimt draw would probably be the best result for us. Stuniverse
Sunday 11th November 2029 Odds Ballklubb (5th) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- Yesterday's Result --- -- -- Odds Ballklubb gave us a very tough match today. It was a fairly even, end-to-end game, although I can understand why Odd and Christian Michelsen may feel aggrieved given they hit the inside of the post twice without the ball crossing the line either time, but we had some good chances as well. Overall, I think a draw was a fair result. Two games to go. It's still all to play for but we have it in our own hands and that makes us favourites. We're into an international break now so we'll give the players who aren't away a week off and then we'll get back to training and prepare for our home game with Brann. -- -- Edited March 22 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Preview Viking (1st) v Brann (5th) Eliteserien - Best i vest derby -- -- It's a big, BIG, BIG game for a couple of reasons. Firstly it's the Best i vest derby and we want to win it for our amazing supporters. But, more importantly, if we can beat Brann today we will crowned Eliteserien Champions. To do that in the SR-Bank Arena, in front of de mørkeblå fans, would be out of this world. Hopefully we can get the positive result we all want. -- I understand where you're coming from Egil, but we've got ourselves into this fantastic situation by treating every game the same, preparing the same way, and I think we should just carry on in the same way. I know Isak has done a great job motivating the players but if we make a big thing out of this match we run the risk of making the players overly nervous. Stuniverse
Sunday 25th November 2029 Viking (1st) v Brann (5th) Eliteserien - Best i vest derby -- Yesterday's Result -- -- -- We've done it! We've won Eliteserien. After coming so close last season and missing out in the last 15 minutes of the final game of the season, we were determined to go one better this season. Bodø/Glimt and Vålerenga pushed us all the way but we've done it. The atmosphere inside a 16,300 SR-Bank Arena crowd was electric, it got a bit tense when Brann pulled it back to 2-1 late on, but we saw the game out and won it. The players have been professional all season, they've worked hard on the training ground and done what we've asked of them on the pitch. I'm so proud of them. Stuniverse
Thursday 29th November 2029 Viking (Norway) v Boavista (Portugal) UEFA Europa League -- -- -- We were well on top in the first half and thoroughly deserved our 2-0 lead at the break. The second half started well for us but then, 55 minutes in, Yorbe Vertessen saw red with a horrendous two-footed lunge, that isn't like him at all, and we were down to 10-men. You had a great season Thank you, @JaytheGreat - your comments are greatly appreciated (pardon the pun). I have thoroughly enjoyed this season. There were times when I thought Viking might come up short, again, but we found a way to get Viking over the line as Eliteserien Champions. 3 hours ago, JaytheGreat said: and it likes look the team still has some fight left judging by the Europa League performances. Yes, the UEFA Europa League performances have both surprised and pleased me in equal measure - topping the league with four wins and one draw from five matches, I wasn't expecting that after our UEFA Champions League League Path Qualifying campaign. 3 hours ago, JaytheGreat said: I can't imagine you were too pleased losing 3 players to injury in the same game right before the final regular season and the Cup Final. Indeed I wasn't. Losing three players in the same match was a big blow so close to the end of the 2029 season, although I'm not sure exactly when we'll say our season ends as the UEFA Europa League will continue into our 2030 pre-season and start of the new season. Oscar Bobb leads all of Eliteserien for Average Rating, Martin Palumbo is Oscar's rotational option leaving me short there and Edvin Austbø is one of three top strikers who I've been rotating. I have assembled a fantastic medical team, even if I do say so myself, and they inform me there's a chance all three could be back for Cupen Final. Stuniverse
Preview Viking (1st) v Åsane (11th) Eliteserien -- Åsane have nothing to play for really but I'm sure Tobias Linderoth and his team will want to finish Eliteserien on a high. It's our job to try and stop them enjoying the day in front of our own supporters at SR-Bank Arena. -- -- Expected Line-up Åsane are comfortably 11th, they can't qualify for Europe and they can't get relegated, so I think that gives me some licence to make changes for this match without disrespecting the integrity of Eliteserien. I'll be honest with you, I'm not sure what to do with this amazing squad during pre-season and the next transfer window. Don't get me wrong, I love this group of players and the squad have been superb this season, I could probably stick with them all and we could give retaining our Eliteserien title a great shot, but... some of them have been at Viking a long time and fancy a new challenge, some of them are approaching 30 years of age or are now the wrong side of 30. I'm honestly in two minds whether to do what I did this season and work hard to keep the squad happy and together or whether it's time to seriously blood younger players and start the rebuild by replacing the older players with younger ones. Answers on a post card please... I may regret this but I've made 10 changes today so that I can rest our main players ahead of Cupen Final plus I can take a closer look at the squad players who haven't played as much as they would've liked this season as well as, hopefully, giving the injured trio of Oscar Bobb, Martin Palumbo and Edvin Austbø a bit of a run-out to see if we can risk them in Cupen Final. I have faith and trust in the starting-11 I've picked, but I hope the Viking fans will understand if it turns out to have been a bad idea.
