Stuniverse
Saturday 23rd November 2030 Bodø/Glimt 2-3 Viking Post-Match Press Conference -- -- I'm so incredibly proud of the players. At 0-2 down it was all slipping away from us but they showed their character, their togetherness, and to turn it around and win in Bodø/Glimt's own back-yard was something unbelievably special. Delighted for my backroom staff, many of whom came with me from Hødd, who have worked tremendously hard behind the scenes. I'm thrilled for the Viking Board, the chairperson Jarle-Bech Eriksen who's been so supportive here since day one. But this is for our amazing de mørkeblå supporters, 413 of them were inside Aspmyra and, in the second-half, they out sang 7,800-odd Bodø/Glimt fans. It was incredible. It was, because it clawed us back to just 1-2 down and it gave us some hope because, honestly, the game and the Eliteserien title were slipping away from us at that point. We started the game well, Lasse Nordås headed inches over the bar after 10 minutes and we were giving as good as we got. But after about quarter of an hour, Bodø/Glimt settled and took control of the game. They scored after 31 minutes and again eight minutes later and Tite's team seemed to be cruising at that point. I did think about waiting until the break to make changes but, the way the game was going, we could've been 3-0 down and the game over so we changed there and then, we changed to an Attacking mentality and a more Attacking shape and it worked, because Lasse Nordås scored which meant we went in at half-time only one goal behind and the players were on a high. After the break we were much better, the players had belief and, to be fair, I think Bodø/Glimt started to feel the pressure. Preslav Borukov equalised around the hour mark and suddenly it really was game-on. We knew 2-2 wasn't enough and that we had to win. The crowd sensed it. Our fans got louder and louder and the Bodø/Glimt fans got nervy which, I think, transmitted to their players. And then came the strangest moment of the whole game which could've cost us. Brice Wembangomo hit a delightful cross into the penalty area, Lasse Nordås went down under a challenge, and Preslav Borukov headed the ball into the back of the net. We went crazy but the goal wasn't given because the referee had already blown for a penalty... only VAR sent the referee to the monitor and he changed his mind, no penalty. We were furious. A goal chalked off and a penalty taken away from us in a matter of seconds. Time was running out now... ... so we went for it. a much more Attacking shape because if we were going to miss out we were going to miss out going for it. Edvin Austbø hit the bar with a cracking shot from just outside the penalty area and you do start to wonder if it's just not our day. And then, then, the referee awarded us another penalty. My heart was in my mouth as VAR reviewed the referee's decision but this time it was a penalty and Lasse Nordås was calmness personified as he scored from the spot to give us a 3-2 lead. I knew Bodø/Glimt were going to throw everything at us then, they had to, and our shape was far too Attacking and left us vulnerable, so... ... we changed. And it was like the Alamo. But we defended magnificently, winning headers, making tackles, getting blocks in, Jasper Torkildsen making saves... ... and then the final whistle and we'd retained our Eliteserien Title. After the goal got ruled out, and the penalty decision overruled, it did start to look like things weren’t going to go our way. So yes, the winning goal when it came was massive for us although, obviously, we didn’t know it was the winning goal at that point but at 3-2 we had the title if we could hold onto the lead. At 0-2 down after 39 minutes it looked like it might be slipping away, but we always had belief we could do it. Success brings more pressure, sure. Bring it on. That’s why I signed a four-year contract extension. I think we've been pretty consistent all season but those three wins out of three in July against Bodø/Glimt, Odd and Sandnes Ulf didn't do us any harm at all. Lasse Nordås has only been with us for 13 games but his form since joining Viking has been top notch. Edited April 14 by Stuniverse
Hootieleece
Congrats on your title. Time to start scouting the youth ranks of your and other teams for a pipeline of talent to keep this going. I think you are probably right in that assessment. Hmmmmn... not sure if I’ve mentioned before on this thread, but I'm not a big fan of newgens... that's why I'm using a newgen facepack and giving any newgens at Viking (and Loddefjord and Hodd before that) a face if I think they have good potential. I already have two Academy players in the first team squad. Midfielder Steinar Braathen, and I’ve just added a 15-year old goalkeeper Roger Vestgøte to the first team squad. I also have eight younger players out on loan and some of them may make next season's first team squad. I'll be doing a post at the start of 2031 pre-season about the young players with potential at Viking, particularly as there's one element of the Club Vision the Board are very disappointed with me about... Definitely need to scout younger players outside of Viking and will probably, reluctantly, take over responsibility for scouting as every season my recruitment team run out of scouting budget early in the season. 4 hours ago, Hootieleece said: Bodo/Glimt, Molde, and especially Rosenborg will not be mediocre forever even with AI Squad building. You can probably add Brann to that list as well. When you factor in that we did the League double over Bodo/Glimt yet only pipped them to the Eliteserien title by one point, then clearly Bodo/Glimt did better against the other 14 Eliteserien teams than we did. I think I earnt that victory against Bodo/Glimt with all the changes I made during the match. At 0-2 down after 39 minutes it looked like it wasn’t going to be our day. Then around 70 minutes, at 2-2, it did seem to be slipping away from us when we had a goal disallowed, because the referee had awarded us a penalty, only for VAR to overrule that decision. No goal and no penalty either. And when we did get our noses in front 3-2, it was very tense during the closing 10+ minutes as Bodø/Glimt put us under a lot of pressure. Very late on, their goalkeeper joined the attack, popping up from nowhere, and shooting over the bar from 20 yards.

Stuniverse
Preview -- -- We need to make sure we don't have a hangover from the euphoria of winning Eliteserien. Goalkeeper troubles are the story of the day. Our #1 Jasper Torkildsen is fine. But our other two registered goalkeepers are both injured, Julian Faye Lund is unwell and Magnus Rugland Ree is recovering from a fractured arm. According to the rules, as I understood them, we should be able to include an unregistered goalkeeper if two registered goalkeepers are injured... ...but we couldn't so Magnus Rugland Ree will be on the bench. -- Expected Line-up
Stuniverse
Wednesday 27th November 2030 Viking (Norway) v Bologna (Italy) UEFA Champions League -- -- -- Defensively we were at our very best and Jasper Torkildsen didn't have a shot to save all game. But, at the other end, we were wasteful and didn't test their goalkeeper enough. Patience paid off though in the end. We got a late penalty which Lasse Nordås calmly slotted away to secure three points. --

No, absolutely not @warlock No offence to Hønefoss, but I went to the Eliteserien / OBOS-ligaen Playoff Final to cheer on Tromsø. When Timmy Simons took over as Tromsø manager in May of this year, they were rock bottom and looked dead and buried after drawing two and losing six of their opening eight Eliteserien fixtures so Timmy has done very well well to turn their fortunes and finish as high as 14th. I didn't think they deserved to get relegated. As for the Cupen Final between Bodø/Glimt and Sogndal... well I'm in a privileged position and I like to watch the Final. -- I have about 1,160 players on my shortlist and you know what FM is like with its media reports. Stuniverse
Preview -- Celtic at home in the UEFA Champions League is going to be another difficult test for us before a short break for Christmas and then we face Barcelona away and Napoli at home in January. Absolutely. I wouldn't have signed a new four-year contract otherwise. We're trying to do our transfer business early if we can. We already have two players who've agreed to join us in January, one on a free transfer and one with a nominal fee. There's two players, including Aleksander Liland, where we've agreed a transfer fee with the club and verbally agreed personal terms with the player and agent, and there's another player where we've made a bid. All the others are under the public radar so I don't think the leak on Aleksandar Liland is from the Viking end. Stuniverse
Wednesday 11th December 2030 Viking (Norway) v Celtic (Scotland) UEFA Champions League -- -- -- I couldn't have asked for more today. At the end of a long, hard season, it was brilliant to see the players perform so well. Against a good Celtic team, to be 2-0 up after 22 minutes, and 3-0 up after half an hour, was beyond our wildest dreams. We scored some good goals but David Møller Wolfe's was the pick of the bunch. Edvin Austbø has been in my ear lately wanting more playing time so it was good to see him score today after I gave him a start. We started the match with one back-four, and finished it with a completely changed back-four, whilst still keeping a clean sheet so that was very satisfying. It was good to be able to give young players Eivind Helland, Brage Kvithyld and Steinar Braathen playing time today. --

It's not something I would normally do either, @Hootieleece and @BML but in European Competition I get to name 12 players so a matchday squad of 23 from 25 registered players. I don't have many U21 players who meet the "two years at club" criteria and I don't have any goalkeepers so for the UEFA Champions League game against Bologna, it was a case of name (orange) injured Magnus Rugland Ree on the bench or go with no goalkeeper on the bench at all. Now that I know I'm contracted to be at Viking for another four seasons, the development path for Academy players is something I need to pay more attention to. I was a bit surprised because he's featured in 31 matches this season albeit that he's only started 17 of them. But then when I thought about it, since we signed Lasse Nordås in August, Edvin has only had occasional starts with Lasse and Preslav Borukov being my main strike partnership. Preslav is 30 now and takes up a non-home grown registration slot so if 25 year old Edvin could step-up that would be good all round, especially as Preslav is happy being a squad player. I promised Edvin that I'd give him more playing time but that he had to prove he was worth it when he played. I gave Edvin a start against Celtic and he put in a 7.4 performance and scored a goal. It's up to him to put in consistent performances now. Spoiler --

Jogo Bonito
Wow, what an amazing way to clinch a league title! Away to the top team, 2-0 down and coming back to snatch it in style - well done indeed! I'm late to the party but 100% support your decision to sign the new contract at Viking. It was the only choice to make. I like the 'agent chat' sequences, good to see that side continuing. I noticed that Diouf didn't play enough to get a winners medal, payback for the previous year sending off?!? Not your choice obviously, but must have given you a wry smile.... I've seen the bits about choosing the training camp destination in FM24, but it's not every time they give you options. Usually they do if you've proven yourself at a club, so surprised you weren't given a choice. I don't think you have any say in deciding when they make it, I'm quite sure dates are picked by the club.
