No doubt this thread can be moved to the subforum in due course, just as soon as someone pulls their finger out and creates it.  But these squads are already starting to 'drop' this week.

UEFA deadline is not until 6th June.  So some countries look set to 'go early' and name their final 26 in the next few days.  Some will name a larger squad and then trim it down later.

Says "preliminary squad" on that tweet, but there are only 26 names.  So probably safe to assume it would only be changed from this point if there are injuries.

What we thinking for England since it’s 26 man squad?

GK: Pickford, Ramsdale, Henderson

DF: Walker, TAA, Konsa, Guehi, Maguire, Stones, Shaw

MF: Henderson, Rice, Bellingham, Gallagher, Mainoo

Wingers: Saka, Palmer, Foden, Gordon, Grealish, Rashford

St: Kane, Watkins

I have that as three spaces left from this list:

Bowen, Maddison, Trippier, James, Gomez, Dunk, Lewis, Tomori, Colwill, Chilwell, Toney.

Falls down to what extra positions he wants to take. I’m assuming in defence as there’s enough question marks on fitness.

Might throw a few quid on Lewis Hall making the squad because of the LB situation :D

I haven't seen enough of Guehi and Konsa to judge them, but surely Dier's great from for Bayern warrants a spot over two mid-table players?
Tomori has been really questionable this season and Southgate doesn't like him.

Dier is fair, just not been in a squad for over a year, and not played minutes for England since World Cup 22. Feels like when a player drops out of the England fold under Southgate, it has to be something special to get back in.

Dunno about Dier.  He hasn't played for a while, but he has a few previous tournaments that will count in his favour.  Plus Gareth already recalled him once for WC22 when he had been out of the picture for a bit.  But then they didn't call him up in March for the last two friendlies when I thought they might have done.  Could go either way.  He could be one of those that benefits from it being a 26-man squad instead of a 23-man squad.  Especially if he can cover CDM as well as CB once injuries or suspensions kick in.

Bowen, Trippier and Toney out of that list. But Rashford should be dropped and i would include Dunk

Looks like Nagelsmann isn't taking Goretzka or Hummels.

@Freakiie What's German public opinion on these ridiculous one by one announcements and Nagelsmann's squad building decisions?

Split pretty heavily between "what the hell is this dumb nonsense" and "why not?".

Doesn't help that the general sentiment regarding the NT is incredibly negative anyway after recent years, so the DFB can't really do anything right in the first place.

I like the creativity in this, but I like the classic way of just announcing the whole squad at once on a later date better.

It definitely creates some buzz around the more unexpected picks, for example lots of people are happy for Pavlovic. On the other hand, lots of negative buzz around Koch as people don't really understand his call up.

For the obvious picks we've gotten so far it doesn't really do much.

Yea I can't imagine the announcement of Joshua Kimmich or Jamal Musiala will be a surprise inclusion, but they can do some crazy gimmick like have Kimmich's announcement on the back of a random Mercedes, or Musiala's name on the side of a small kayak floating in the Rhine river, which makes it slightly more fun

They do have introduction videos I believe, but I don't really follow social media and have absolutely no clue about the German influencers that are posting them, so I haven't actually seen any.

I read something to say they were being announced one at a time “to prevent leaks”, except it has already leaked that Hummels and Goretzka are out.

Reminds me of a redundancy process at my old work where they called us in one at a time to tell us where we were slotting into the new structure. But by the time the last few people went in they had already worked out there were no jobs left.

I haven't seen enough of Guehi and Konsa to judge them, but surely Dier's great from for Bayern warrants a spot over two mid-table players?
Tomori has been really questionable this season and Southgate doesn't like him.

Did you just refer to a player whose team is 4th as mid-table? :D Dier started this season as a back-up at the club sitting below Villa in the standings. Dier is in good form but I don't think Konsa going over him would be unusual or surprising.

I mean that's not really a leak, that's an obvious assumption as Pavlovic and Koch occupy the spots that a Goretzka or Hummels would have taken if they were called up. With both Goretzka and Hummels already not being part of the last NT squad they were pretty much out of the running already until the squad size increase was announced, but now Pavlovic and Koch took two of those three spots.

They're a mid-table team that's fourth just because usual top4 candidates are awful.
He's a part of defense that just conceded 6 goals in 2 matches against Olympiacos.
I'm glad they're making top4, but let's be real here.

Leaving Eze out?

@GunmaN1905 going early.  Post after post telling us why lots of the England players aren't actually as good as we think.  But then a massive rant about how Gareth should still be able to take them and win the tournament without getting out of first gear.  And if he falls just short it's because he's the worst manager ever to walk the earth.

NOW THE TOURNAMENT CAN REALLY START :D

@GunmaN1905 I love you, man.

Can't wait for the next season when Gareth takes charge at Old Trafford. I'll make sure to watch every game.

Is there a list of well known players that are going to be missing out, either by injury or simply being out of favour at international level?

Didn't realise 4th in the Prem was mid-table? Konsa would be a great addition and you'd surely take Toney and Watkins if there's 26 players to go

Alaba is injured.
Courtois recovered but doesn't want to play for current NT coach.
Vlašić (important penalty taker :D) got injured recently, doubtful.
Lucas torn his ACL against Dortmund and do we still count Pogba? :D Kimpembe is also out.
Hummels and Goretzka won't be called up.
Tonali is suspended.
Gavi is injured.

I'm sure there are some more.

Lads, we are cooking now

I have added the Hungary squad to the OP.  They have included Callum Styles, Manchester-born but qualifies for Hungary through a grandparent.

Couple more names added to the Germany squad, including Brighton's Pascal Gross.  Must have thought his chance had gone in terms of international football... then gets a debut aged 32 and makes it to a tournament.

Full Germany squad.

Fourth goalkeeper is probably for training purposes and will be dropped for the final team as it's currently 27 players.

Surprised Hummels wasn't nominated. The other big name missing is obviously Goretzka but he is not a player that happily sits on the bench so I can understand him being left out for the sake of a good mood in the dressing room. No Gnabry either, but he is injured and basically was injured the entire season so no surprise there.

Seems like Nagelsmann will call all 4 GKs and one of the outfielders (likely unfit Sane, Koch, or maybe Beier) will get cut. Surprised he couldn't fit in Adeyemi in there but I guess Undav has had a great season.

Why is he calling up four GKs? Overkill, no?

Nah, if it's a training squad of 27 at the moment then one of those GKs will definitely be the one getting dropped.  Tournament rules say you have to have three keepers in the squad and you have to specify who is a keeper and who isn't.

Surely we all remember the hilarity of North Korea's WC2010 squad?  They thought they could game the system by only naming two keepers and bringing in an extra outfield player.  Then once they landed in South Africa they realised that one of their outfield players had to be labelled as a keeper and was only allowed to play in goal :D

Surely you can bring any other GK along, maybe as staff, and not have to name them in your squad for that?

Nagelsmann said having four keepers was crucial for spreading the workload during the tournament.
"We have nominated four goalkeepers and we will go with four to the tournament. Nuebel has deserved the nomination," Nagelsmann said.
Why four keepers? You can have goalkeepers in training as well and Manuel (Neuer) does not always have to do it. We can control training and spread the load.
"That means 22 infield players. I can live with that very well. We can still do proper training with at least 20 infield players if some are missing."

Yeah, again.  I think Nagelsmann is gonna be disappointed if he thinks he can take four keepers.  Here are the amended tournament regs after they approved the increase to 26-man squads:
https://editorial.uefa.com/resources/028d-1acc90ff9b17-34d982978a20-1000/regulations_of_uefa_european_football_championship_2022-24_amendments_20240503114432.pdf

48.01 states "Three of these 23 to 26 players must be goalkeepers."

Unless it means a minimum of three goalkeepers

But the rules don't say that, and nobody has ever taken four keepers to a tournament before.
