I think having Grealish here running into the defenders and giving the ball away would be even more infuriating, somehow

the irony is that much as 90% of people cheered when Rashford wasn't in the side, the ability to lob the ball over the top in his general direction when the opposition follows Kane up the pitch would be game changing, even if we still couldn't do anything fluidly.

Foden probably the brightest player for us in that half, but still nowhere near the player he is for City. Kane just bafflingly deep, to the point of being a parody of himself. Rice sloppy. Gallagher sloppy. Eurghhh

Currently wrestling with the sofa to not have a nap, England are like the footballing equivalent of whale noises.

Two whales sit in a pub. The first whale goes "whoooooooooooo oooooooooooaaa whooooeeeee wheeeeeoooo". Says the second whale: "Shut up, Frank. This is just the group stage."

When are they going to play with the same passion they play for their clubs?

Passion has absolutely nothing to do with it

They play better for their clubs largely because they have better managers who can build functioning teams.

Indefensible that Southgate has persisted with Trippier behind Foden for this long. Something has to give.

Kane is not helping really, is he? About as mobile as my gran.

If he spent less energy running back playing DM he might be able to press more effectively.

Kane dropping has had its benefits over the years but it's causing issues in this set up.

We’re at the “yeah but let’s remember, team X are no mugs” level of punditry

Fast forward to two years time... "There are no easy games in international football, even against the Cayman Islands."

Bellingham has to drop to 8 or Wharton has to come on.

They have to try something for the next stage. I appreciate Kane has been bobbins, but Kane is playing in the next round. It doesn't help the line up then.

Southgate needs to watch the game not the name on the back of the shirts.

The lack of actual coaching is finally catching up Southgate.

We’ll string something 2nd half and win, but it’s nothing to do with actual stuff from training ground. Just a poorly coached side where it’ll catch up as soon as we face a competent side. Like the Denmark game in knock out stage would likely see us out.

Does Kane drop this deep for Bayern? How does he score so many club goals when he spends so much time at left back?

clubs play to his strengths. He needs two wide players and two forward thinking midfielders to unlock him.

Foden cannot play LW in this system, especially with Trippier behind.

There's a reason why Kane has played his best football with Sterling and Saka. Two players that can combine well and also can run in behind and stretch.

It's why Rashford should have gone and why Gordon should be playing

Southgate was always a limited coach, he should really have cut and run when he was ahead. Bit sad watching this tbh.
