  1. 14th December 2019 - Scottish Premiership

    fW4i6qv.png

Starting XI:  Bain, Elhamed, Bitton, Simunovic, Taylor, Brown (c), Ntcham*, Dembele (Forrest 67'), Rogic, Hayes (Johnston 67'), Griffiths (Bayo 56')
Unused Subs: Forster, Jillien, Frimpong, Arzani

This was another opportunity to rest a few players and rotate the squad a bit. We just came off the back to of the League Cup Final win and a tough fixture against Real Madrid. It was also a chance to give young Karamoko Dembele his debut, he had an average game. I'll play him in fixtures like this through the season and hopefully it will help him develop.

Another trip to France is not he cards. It wasn't a kind draw there were plenty easier ties we could have go. Their star players is former AC Milan forward M'Baye Niang.

Starting XI:  Forster, Frimpong, Bitton (Simunovic 59'), Jullien, Taylor, Brown (c), McGregor, Ntcham, Forrest (Dembele 59'), Johnston (Hayes 77'), Edouard
Unused Subs: Bain, Bolingoli, Elyounoussi, Griffiths

Not much to say here al all really. A bore draw. It took the points tally back down to 10 clear at the top. Up next we have Rangers in the Glasgow Derby with the chance to allow Aberdeen to leap-frog them.

  2. 11th December 2019 - UCL Group Stage

    iuag4EY.png

Starting XI:  Forster, Elhamed (Frimpong 69'), Ajer, Jullien, Bolingoli, Brown (c), McGregor (Rogic 69'), Ntcham, Forrest, Elyounoussi (Hayes 69'), Griffiths
Unused Subs: Bain, Taylor, Bitton, Johnston

In the other group fixture Lille went up 1-0 after meaning we were in the second qualifying spot. We then conceded in the 23rd minute from a Luka Modric strike. I looked like Leigh Griffiths pulled one back only for it to be ruled offside by VAR in the 35th. We were unable to get that vital equaliser that would have seen us progress. Now we drop into the Europa League.

  3. 8th December 2019 - Scottish League Cup Final

    dtXZlsz.png

Starting XI:  Forster, Elhamed (Frimpong 61'), Ajer, Jullien, Bolingoli, Brown (c), McGregor, Ntcham, Elyounoussi (Forrest 61'), Hayes (Johnston 82') , Griffiths
Unused Subs: Bain, Taylor, Bitton, Rogic

It took two penalty attempts for Leigh Griffiths to get his goal and seal a 4th consecutive League Cup success. The first on a potential treble. The Quadruple Treble? It is certainly on. However up next is the real task to beat Real Madrid to have any hopes of reaching the last 16.

Unused Subs: Bain, Elhamed, Bolingoli, Johnston, Elyounoussi, Rogic, Bayo

I forgot to pause the game when I went to do something and came back an it was over. Jonny Hayes scored AGAIN. That makes him the squad 5th top goal scorer. I think I have to keep playing him and offer him a deal.

  5. 2nd December 2019

I was delighted to sign up Odsonne Edouard for another two years. The main benefit being that the big spending clubs should leave me alone in January at least. He becomes our top earner with a clause that matches anyone who comes in on a higher wage. Meaning it is unlikely I will be able to sing Fraser Forster as he will demand over £70k p/w. I can't have two players on that I don't think, I shouldn't have put it in but it was a long negotiation.

  6. 26th November 2019 - UCL Group Stage

    w1K0VOj.png

Starting XI:  Forster, Frimpong, Ajer, Jullien, Taylor, Brown (c), McGregor, Forrest, Rogic (Ntcham 70'), Elyanoussi (Hayes 70'), Edouard (Grifiths 70')
Unused Subs: Bain, Elhamed, Bitton, Johnston

We missed our chance to make the Champions League last 16. A point would have done it but now e need to go into the final round of fixtures vs Real Madrid and better Juve's result against Lille who have been hopeless. It could be a blessing in disguise though as winning the CL was never realistic but a good run in the Europa League is.

Starting XI:  Forster, Frimpong, Ajer, Jullien (Bitton 66'), Taylor, Brown (c), Ntcham, McGregor (Rogic 86'), Forrest, Hayes , Johnston (Bayo 66')
Unused Subs: Bain, Elhamed, Elyanoussi, Shved

Jonny Hayes has now scored 4 in has last 3 starts equalling his 5th best league goal tally in just 6 games. He is no my number one left winger. It may just be time to sign him up for another year.

  7. 23rd November 2019 - Scottish Premiership

Starting XI:  Forster, Elhamed (Arzani 58'), Bitton, Jullien, Taylor, Brown (c), Ntcham, Forrest, McGregor, Hayes* (Johnston 70'), Edouard
Unused Subs: Bain, Simunovic, Bolingoli, Elyounoussi, Griffiths

Jonny Hayes throws another spanner in the works. I did plan on letting him go at the end of the season but we'll see how this little run of form goes. He may be worth keeping around it will be between him and Boli Bolingoli who has actually played well too.

So we finally got some funding to look to improve the squad and secure our assets. First step was to tie down Odsonne Edouard in hope that it will fend off some of the interest from down South. The new deal would add two years on to his existing contract also.

  8. I tried to be as statistical as possible when making the decision here as they were both very good potential signings. It came down to it and I had to make the decision. In the end, I went for Colid Dagba. Although he worked out around £500k more over the 3-and-a half-year deal he looked like the best value for money. He has had more assists and has better passing, tackling, fouls etc. stats. He is prime age for singing too. He has two contract life cycles in him before I'd be looking to sell him to recoup some of the investment. I'd likely be looking to sell Gullermo Cotugno during the initial contract.

  9. I have identified a weakness in the squad. Though Conor McLaughlin was one of our top performers last season he only made 3 assists. Compare that to Denver Hume who got 15. He has not been performing with the step up despite taking home close to £10k p/w with bonuses. He's a full international and at 29 this might be my last chance to cash in on as his deal ends in the summer.

He's valued at £350k so I'm going to set an asking price of around £300k and see if it stirs any interest. I have identified two potential replacements. My first choice is Colin Dagba who has been performing consistently for PSG 2. It's no slight on him that he can't get in the superstar laden first team. His assets look good - this is what is making him my preferred option over Guillermo Cotungo.

    9th November 2019 - Scottish Premiership

     YqmdZ11.png

Starting XI:  Bain, Frimpong, Bitton (c), Simunovic, Bolingoli, Soro, Ntcham*, Shved, Arzani (Edouard 60'), Johnston (Hayes 60'), Griffiths (Bayo 78')
Unused Subs: Forster, Jullien, McGregor, Elyounoussi

I rotated quite heavily here due to playing strong sides for the Semi Final and UCL. We still managed to win convincingly Johnny Hayes came on off the bench to as a winger instead of wing back and scored a brace. We'll see what he can do from there the next few matches. We have opened up or gap at the top to 10 points.

Livingston sit at the foot of the table. A 2-0 loss at Pitodrie was the final nail in the coffin. They are being linked with some heavy hitters so it could be interesting.

  11. 6th November 2019 - UCL Group Stage

    7ujykRG.png

Starting XI:  Forster, Elhamed, Ajer, Jullien*, Taylor, Brown (c), McGregor (Ntcham 64'), Forrest, Rogic, Elyanoussi (Johnston 72'), Edouard
Unused Subs: Bain, Frimpong, Bitton, Shved, Griffiths

Another big win showing that we can compete in the Champions League. This guaranteed us European football past Christmas. Up next we have Juve and a single point will be enough to progress to the last 16 (I think).

  12. 2nd November 2019 - Scottish League Cup Semi Final

    YWTinoF.png

Starting XI:  Forster, Frimpong (Elhamed 61'), Ajer, Jullien, Taylor*, Brown (c), McGregor, Forrest (Elyanoussi 61'), Rogic, Johnston, Edouard (Griffiths 79')
Unused Subs: Bain, Bitton, Ntcham, Shved

Yet another match where the scoreline didn't do us justice. Odsonne Edouard slotted the ball past the keeper after picking it up just inside the box. The win was the important thing and we go into the Final.

Starting XI:  Forster, Elhamed, Ajer, Simunovic, Bolingoli (Hayes 66'), Brown (c), McGregor, Forrest*, Johnston (Bayo 78'), Elyounoussi, Edouard (Griffiths 66')
Unused Subs: Bain, Frimpong, Simunovic, Hayes, Rogic

I decided to do some rotation and play some of the fringe players as we've a big game against Lille coming up. I also want to get them some game time and in the eye of potential suitors. We struggled but got the goal in the end despite dominating the match. James Forrest pounced on a rebound to maintain the gap at the top.

Starting XI:  Forster, Elhamed*, Ajer (Frimpong 70'), Julien, Taylor, Brown (c), Bitton, Forrest, Rogic (Shved 56'), Elyounoussi, Edouard (Griffiths 85')
Unused Subs: Bain, Simunovic, Hayes, Johnston

This was a big win for us. It puts us in a great position after 3 games to at lease drop into the Europa League. It is very tight with Juve, Madrid and ourselves all on 6 points.

    AYC0TVy.png

Starting XI:  Forster, Frimpong, Ajer, Jullien (sent off 58'), Bolingoli*, Brown (c), Bitton, Shved, Rogic (Simunovic 59'), Johnston, Edouard (Griffiths 59')
Unused Subs: Bain, Taylor, Hayes, Soro, Bayo

Things go off to a bad start but we got a stroke of luck in the 2nd half when Odsonne Edouard was brought down in the box by a Livingston defender. He converted the penalty to level the match. Just as we looked to be turning it around Christopher Jullien got a second yellow and sent for an early shower. I shored things up to play for the draw but Scottish Premiership top goal scorer Leigh Griffiths' winner was enough to secure the 3 points. Rangers fell further behind with a draw at home to Aberdeen taking the gap to 5 points.

Go away Roy. I'm hoping to get a new deal signed in the next few weeks.

Unused Subs: Bain, Taylor, Hayes, Soro, Bayo

I rested a lot the squad here as we have two very important games coming up. Hibs in the League Cup Semi Final and the return leg vs Lille. It was a tight game but we managed to get all three points.
