David by a long long way for me.
31 is way too old of a player to have taking up a key role, especially when David is pretty much his equal with more years to develop.

As mentioned, it's in responsibilities. But they aren't very prolific when it comes to signing players.
If you want a U23/U19/U18/B/2nd Team overflowing with potential, that's going to have to come down to you I'm afraid. Weird that they don't try and snap players up when the team is incomplete but that's AI for you.
I joined PSG, and they had a total of 0 Left Backs at any level!!

Are they interested in joining you?
When you scout them does it show that they're interested in you? When in the scouting screen do you have the Interested In: Transfer box ticked?
Maybe joining Gillingham just isn't very attractive.
I've had many players not be interested in joining me at Dortmund. Even though you're in League 1, maybe they have aspirations higher.

On FM19, I was at United for a long time and whenever the bank balance approached around £1.2bn, the board put a chunk (Usually circa £300m) into an "Investment" fund.
This money disappears off your books and everywhere else.
It did come back a little though, I was able to have a brand new stadium built for circa £800m without a single dent to my clubs finances.
I believe this was added to avoid the issue mentioned.

It depends how long you have left on your contract and your current salary. The compensation required can put off some clubs.
Keep playing and you're likely to get offers. If you want to move, check the job centre and start applying, but be prepared for your current club to get annoyed at that!

If you go into Steam and then Manage then Properties, there's a tab for Beta which you can opt out of. I had to do it when the full version launched.

You can ask the board for a Trial day, that might turn up some players worth hiring.
I've found it a challenge to keep these teams. You either have to accept that you'll need to keep players that ultimately will be short of first team potential, or always have quite thin teams.

The top 3 strikers in the league score on average 60% of their shots on target.
My current EPL seasons (2032/33):
Gatter 73 Shots On Target 30 Goals 41%
Lebrun 86 Shots On Target 26 Goals 30%
Tau 65 Shots On Target 18 Goals 28%
The top 3 strikers in the league score on average 33% of their shots on target.
So I'd agree it definitely seems that the strikers on FM are far less likely to score than their real world cousins.
Interestingly the numbers of shots on target generated are far greater in real life.
FM 32/33 = Top 3 strikers average 2.765 shots on target per game.
Real World = Top 3 strikers average 1.164 shots on target per game.
So I guess it's a question of balancing. Either FM is creating too many chances, or it's lowered the scoring chance so we don't have strikers generating 70 goal seasons.
For me the total goals overall isn't an issue.... just the journey there is a little skewed.

No issue with players on loan in FM20 for me, but then, I've never thought it was an issue.

Man spends £200m and team gets better....... not quite a twist on M Night Shyamalan but always good to see City get done over.
And I'm with you on having to let some players go, it hurts, but can definitely unlock something new, be it forcing you to change and get better, or that it forces you to give a youngster a chance who just smashes every expectation

What do you have your preferences set as?
I think it defaults to 2 weeks, so all reports take 2 weeks to come through to your mailbox (May be available earlier if you go and look at the player). You can set it to as little as 1 game.... may get less of a report but a lot quicker during a window than waiting 2 weeks.

Damn, looks like he has random attributes at the start?
I guess it depends how he develops but he definitely has bags of potential.
As you can see, he had a few loans but has always played a lot of first team games from the start which would have had a huge impact on how he progressed.

Is this really a post moaning about Newgens?
I love Newgens, find the game far more fun once you get past real players.
Nothing like taking someone through their career and watching their journey.... see attached Croatia's number 1 keeper at 19. This lad is going to smash appearance records if he keeps his development on the same trajectory!
