Cesc's main critique of Foden was if he's that good he should be able to adapt his role to play out wide. If he's only able to perform properly through the middle, we have too much talent to try to shoehorn him in. He'd have to be Bellingham's understudy who comes on for Bellingham/if Bellingham drops back into the midfield and the central role is freed up.

I'm a bit too young to have seen him at his peak but going from highlights alone, Gazza was probably the closest. But he was his own worst enemy, while Bellingham seems to have his head on straight.

Yeah, Bowen having some luck down the right just now could support the argument - the LB was prepared for Saka but now he has to adjust his game to match Bowen. That's the only way I could see Southgate thinking of that change.

I guess bringing on Bowen could turn out to be a smart play as he has a different profile to Saka down the right so the change could upset the defensive system Serbia had set up on that flank.

Bowen? Again, not the change I would have made. Especially not for Saka. But I guess Saka has been subdued a bit in the second half.

TBF to Gallagher during that phase in play, he was finding acres of space but nobody was playing the ball to him. A circle with around a 10 yard radius around him.

That's the thing, he can set up well but is limited in that he doesn't know how to change things up and lets play stagnate too long before even attempting to do anything But I guess at least Gallagher should be an upgrade on TAA.
