Even with club form, they need a solid base to excel from. Kante/Pogba are the mainstays of previous success, so a blow for France, but in an annoying way, it’s a blessing for them. I’d have loved to faced a France side with Kante/Pogba starting, because they’re no where near the levels any more that people probably see them as. Instead, starting with Tchouameni, and a more overall fitter midfield is something I’d prefer not to face. Doubt Deschamps has a clue what his team is though. Probably fancy Giroud over Benzema

Think it was mentioned before, should be a World XI team that replaces them. Players from nations that didn't qualify, managed by Mancini. Oblak: Spinazolla, Alaba, Bonnuci, Coufal; Verrati, Oddegard, Barella; Isak, Haaland, Salah Kessie, Zaha, Diakhaby, PEA, Keita, Bennacer, Mahrez, Osimhen, Bissouma, Diaz, Almiron, Skriniar, That Georgian Guy, Soucek, Lindelof to name a few to contend for squad.

Always a reminder of how deprived Africa is of having their superstars at the World Cup. One of the few reasons why I like the expanded World Cup, giving Africa more qualifying spots.

I assume Belgium will be playing a load of guys in that first game at least, that won't even be in the World Cup squad?

Why have sympathy for the players? Europe is where the money is, can’t have their cake and eat it. If players are that devoted to World Cup, their superstars should be pushing for the World Cup to be biannual.

It’s a gimmicky World Cup, all for leagues refusing to budge much on their calendars. Bit different if a World Cup was originally awarded in Winter.
