  1. Monterrey & Ivory Coast update

A quick update after a poorer season than I had hoped last season. Making the playoffs but  best we could do was the semi final. I cleared out the dead wood and had a £35 million kitty. I bought the best players I could who were interested in the positions I needed. I was hopeful I could really make a title challenge this season.

We started off well hovering around 2nd place but our form didnt last and I just could not get my players to perform. I could not decide on a tactic nothing seemed to work. I finished 6th in the first half of the season qualifying for the playoff. In the first round first leg we got beat by Club America 5-0 at home. I resigned immediately afterwards. No appealing jobs have come up yet. I am in the middle of qualifying for the ACON which starts in about 6 or 7 months, fingers crossed I can win it this time round.

    C.F. Monterrey Season 2026-27

So after leaving China almost 2 years ago and a failed bid in the ACON with Nigeria, getting sacked. I finally landed a job with Monterrey in Mexico, The board wanted us to continue to be an established Liga MX team. We had some decent players but hardly any defenders. Transfer deadline day was fast approaching and I had to make a few panic transfers. This would cost us if we wanted to achieve anything in the league this season.

With the league split into two competitions we had double the chance to make some progress in the challenge. We did ok in the opening stage finishing 4th, but we got knocked out in the first round of the playoff

The closing stage was slightly better with us finishing 3rd, we did better in the playoff reaching the semi final we won the home leg 2-1 but we lost the away leg 2-0

    CUP

The cup final was a tight affair, we created a few chances but we just could not put one away. We relied on penalties to win this one.

I am tempted to leave Mexico but there are no decent jobs available. I just think it is going to take too long for us to build a team to compete and win the league. I will stay for now, see what signings I can make and see how it goes. I will monitor the job market closely to see if anything tempting becomes available.

    AFCON 2027

After a decent enough showing in the World Cup, it was now time for the AFCON. We were one of the favourites, I had my fingers crossed we could get a bit of luck along the way.

Not the start we wanted, after the loss to Congo I had serious doubts if we would make it out the group. Our second game it was normal service resumed and a convincing 4-0 win over Sierra Leone. Our final game was a good win over Cape Verde to finish top of the group

A tough draw. We threw everything at them, we probably edged it with some good chances, but we could not score. To the lottery of penalties, we missed twice and were sent packing. I dont think the FA will be happy about this, so I may find myself looking for another international job

    The future

    Spoiler

I was right, The FA did not like our performance in the AFCON so I got the sack, my fist sacking so far in this save, I feel it will not be the last. There were a few jobs available after the AFCON finished. Two that appealed to me were Ghana and Ivory Coast. I applied for both, both offered me the job and I decided to go for the Ivory Coast. I hope to god I can win this tournament next time round

Welcome to the challenge. Your manager was 20 / Sunday league at start?

You're the first person to mention this problem on the thread. Well, I mentioned it when I asked if anyone had had problems, but you're the first to reply.

You're 6 seasons in. is it actually affecting your save?

There's 2 ways it could do this.

    1. Dramatically reducing the number of international teams you can manage. I think this is the biggest problem for the challenge. If nations don;t produce regens, they will become unmanageable very quickly. Nations in Africa and Asia disappear even without the bug. So 6 seasons in, how many nations in those 2 continents are manageable, and more pertinently, have any big ones disappeared. You can tell this from the job security page. If the nation's not there, they're gone. In theory they can reappear once players are added, but this is unlikely.

    2. Clubs in added leagues don;t have any young players. I'm not doing this challenge, so you'll all have to tell me if this is happening. If clubs in added nations do have sufficient young players, there's no problem.

Don;t give up on a save just because of the noise from elsewhere about bugs.

This is called the Youth Development bug, but I'm doing the Youth Development challenge, and it's presenting no problems to me at all. The number of players in my save has not reduced.

I've always thought that it would potentially present more problems for this challenge, but I'm not going to be able to tell if it actually is.

@jcricky Commiserations on the sacking. In the early days of the challenge people used to get sacked a lot. Ok. I used to get sacked a lot. In fact 2 of us had a side challenge on to see who would get sacked the most. Unsurprisingly, they became the 2 completions that took the longest.

I worry that these days there's a stigma to getting sacked from club jobs on this challenge. Maybe lots of people start, get sacked and quit.

One should celebrate one's failures as much as one's successes. Also

    image.png.1c6ed8017e55fd9b844efa82429b8643.png

I should point out that in my recent completion, I didn't get sacked once from a club job, (or if I did I've blanked it from my memory).

It's not affecting my save at the moment. But I dont want to get to the point where it does. if I remove all the asian leagues and one by one each country become unavailable to manage unless I re add all the leagues and wait years for players to generate it could add many years onto the save.

I have looked at the national teams. It looks like they're all there but I have loaded all asian players. I have china, australia, south africa, South Korea, Holland, scotland & mexico leagues loaded so they will not disappear yet until I remove them. I dont want to remove them because of this. But I want to keep my club progress going and this means I cant keep adding leagues and not removing them which will slow my game.

My thinking at the moment is I need to add keep the asian leagues active, keep SA active, activate Brazil and argentina, until I complete the international part of the challenge then I can remove all of those and load up all the major European nations leagues. But by then all the major euro nations could have no regens if that takes too long.

    Haha

A shock loss to Thailand, I couldn't believe how bad we played, we just could not create anything.

I'm not sure I am a fan of this new World Cup layout, groups of 3 don't work for me, after we beat Serbia in our first game we had already qualified before we lost to Thailand.

A tough draw, I never really expected to beat italy but we played as well as we could have done.

    Future

    Spoiler

The FA were happy with our performance in the World Cup, so I kept my job, I am looking forward to the ACON in 2 years time. Nigeria were finalists last time round, now I am in charge I hope we can go one step further and win it.

On a club note, I have finally managed to land a club job, in Mexico with Monteray

After reading the threads about the youth intake problems in long term saves. I might hold off playing this save for a while until it is fixed. The longer I play the worse the problem will get by the looks of it.

    What's everyone else think?

Hopefully that should work, @libbyshuss seems to have the same problem/fix, so it should.

It's a strange one to come across first time, I was like you and thought this might be the end of the save haha.

Yeah hopefully will not bottle the Champions League next year and then the plan is to move on to the Northern American version or African depending on what jobs pop up. What's your next club plans?

Its 2 years until the AFCON as well and should have a good crack at that with this Nigeria side. How good of an attacking side are Nigeria by the way, pace and dribbling is nuts for everyone. Good luck with them.

Your solution works so yes I can continue :hammer:

I have added, Argentina, Mexico, Scotland and Holland. I would prefer Mexico or Argentina. I would like to save Europe til last. But it has been 15 months since I left china and I'm still without a club. There have not been any tempting clubs sack their manager. I have qualified for the world cup which starts in about 4 months so hopefully I can do well and not get sacked. We have some talented players but my temptation to holiday through friendlies and easy games gets the better of me so I don't really know my best team yet

  7. 40 minutes ago, lukefox44 said:

I had this a few times, I think it's when you're on the team selection screen and click on a player profile or just click away from the selection screen.

If it's the same issue I've been having, I just save the game to a new save slot (just incase it goes wrong so you have your original back up) and then reload the new save and dont click out of the team selection screen.

It does sound similar to the issue I've been having, hopefully this works.

Just as a side note our saves have been extremely similar, very similar teams haha

Thanks for the work around. I'll give that a try next time I am playing.

Yes our saves have had similar teams so far. Good luck in the champions League next season.  Do you have any idea what leagues you want to manage in next?

  8. image.png.82ba0738f3916394186db937d20593c3.png

So after I left China, the African Nations arrived shortly after. A number of jobs came up and I decided to go for Nigeria. Other than this news I have nothing to report, There have not been any attractive club jobs become available yet and I have been unemployed for 8 or 9 months now.

I have found a bug where I cannot progress past the team selection for a match for Nigeria, first time this happened was a friendly and I just holidayed past it, but now its happened again for a World Cup qualifier. So this is where my save ends for now :(

I have reported it in the bugs forum, wasnt sure if it was a known issue. Gutted

  9. I am manager of Nigeria in 2025. My first friendly game I got stu k at the team selection stage. I could not advance to submit a team sheet to get into the match. I had to holiday past the game so I could continue playing.

I have now got to my second game a world cup qualifier and I cannot continue again past the submit teamsheet stage.

    Season 22-23 Liga Mx Clausura

During the Clausura league stage we were unbeaten but our number of wins dropped to 12 and we drew 5, still finishing top but only 1 point ahead of 2nd placed Tigres. The QF and SF stage were much of the same same, wins in both first legs were enough to see us through after a second leg defeat in QF and second leg draw in SF. A huge improvement in the final though as we ran out 4-1 winners overall. Despite a very closely fought 1st leg against Monterrey, they couldn´t lay a glove on us in the second leg. Finally, one Liga Mx finals goes our way!

    CONCACAF Champions League

The CONCACAF Champions League was a walk in the park. The quality of the MLS teams is horrendous. Nobody looked like challenging us all the way through it. First continental tournament for the challenge complete.

    Mexico 2023 Gold Cup

After the 2022 World Cup, Mexico sacked their manager and I applied for the job immediately with the 2023 Gold Cup in mind.

    Group Stage

    image.png.b4998c98a2f72e5c748bf0c05ffb765e.png

As you can see, we were handed a very easy group. We ran out 10-0 winners v Guatemala, 10-1 winners v Grenada and 5-1 winners v El Salvador. I´d say we were superb but the quality of opposition could make the Faroe Islands look like Spain.

    Quarter Final

We were handed what I thought was going to an easy tie however we were losing 3-2 up until 91st minute when we equalised. I thought we were crashing out at this stage, relieved to get the late goal and go on to win the tie.

    Semi Final

After the difficulties in the last round I was apprehensive as to how we get on here however we were superb. We dominated from the get go and had a massive 29 shots on target.

    Final

    image.png.799619096b661383ef9f93f54dea41c4.png

Another game where we dominated throughout, only 13 shots on target this time but against the USA I was happy with the performance and we run out 2023 Gold Cup winners. Special mention to Raul Jiminez who notched a whopping 18 goals in the tournament.

    Moving On

After a successful spell in North America I feel like it is time to find pastures new in a different continent. I have handed in my resignation for Pumas and Mexico. I have no real interest in international management out with the challenge and with no World Cup for 3 and a half years I felt my time was up. I´ve removed Canada, USA and Mexico from my playable leagues and added Australia, South Korea and China. With a Continental A badge and a 3 star reputation, I shouldn´t find it too difficult to get a fairly decent new jobs.

BAUER GETS FIRST RUNS ON THE BOARD

    boca_title.PNG.13fca6c9790dec2da9d3888f61530a9e.PNG

This is my third attempt at this challenge, having tried previously in FM19 and FM20, and this is the first time I have actually collected a trophy! It finished comfortably enough, despite a rocky start that had us as much as 11 points behind the league leaders after just 9 matches.

The stars of my side were clearly my youth players, but without the acquisitions of experienced heads Giovanni Simeone and Juan Foyth, I don't think we would have had the mentality to come from behind and win the title with 3 games to spare.

In addition, the club has been rewarded with a golden generation, no less than 3 players all rated as the most gifted players of recent years.

    boca_golden_gen.PNG.ce3695c862f12167b40cf13c0919bd87.PNG

The plan from here is to stick around at Boca for a bit, I was knocked out of the cup, so I've still got that, and for some reason despite the club finishing 6th last season, we only qualified for the Copa Sudamericana, which isn't a top tier continental competition. So unless a Brazilian team already in the Copa Libertadores comes a'knocking I'll be here for another season or even 2.

    ufm_record_3.PNG.0861c48488e89ad9bcbe234bc23ae48f.PNG

Good luck third time round with this challenge, I dont think I've ever had 3 youth players at once rated that highly.

I enjoyed a spell with Boca on my attempt at this challenge on fm20. Would you leave for a Brazilian team? I couldn't bear managing there how long the seasons are

    2023-2024 Season Review

Anyone who has ever attempted this challenge will know that the holy grail is taking over as the manager of a club mid-way through the season whilst they are still in the cup and doing well in the league and in December of 2023, that is exactly what happened to me after Martin Petrov left his role at CSKA-Sofia for a trip to Turkey with Trabzonspor.

He left me a team who were second in the league and in the semi-final of the cup. Despite this, they were lacking any semblance of depth and the starting 11 were exhausted from being run into the ground.

efbet League: Sofia were second in the league when I took over, with Ludogorets leading the pack and in good form. If I was going to win the league, I would have to perform as well as we could and hope that results elsewhere would go my way. Of the remaining 11 games in the Preliminary Phase, I won 9, drew one and lost only once whilst Ludogorets won just 4 of their remaining 11. With form on our side, we entered the Championship phase top of the league. But that form wouldn’t last long…

We managed just one win from the next phase, in the opening game against PFK Montana, giving us a one point lead going into the final game against rivals Ludogorets. It was a nervy affair, made even worse after 16 minutes when we went a goal down. A goal either side of half time gave us a short lasting lead as they pulled one back 10 minutes later to once again tie the score. Another goal for each of us before the 90th minute mark and the game looked like it would end a draw and secure us the title – until we gave away a 94th minute penalty. A penalty that Ludogorets would miss as the game ended 3-3!

Kupa na Bulgaria: Taking over a club whilst they have already booked their place in the semi-final is really helpful in this game! I had to wait 4 months before playing said semi-final, but opponents Pirin Blagoevgrad couldn’t keep up with us and we put 5 past them over two games for the 5-1 win to set up a final against constant thorn in my side Ludogorets.

This game would be played three days before the aforementioned final league game and the winner would surely have the upper hand going into that game! There wasn’t a lot between us, but our ability to keep possession (64%) was the deciding factor and we stole the tie with an extra time winner to make it 2-1 and give me my first trophy in Bulgaria.

Superkupa na Bylgarija: The guys won 2-0 before I took over

UEFA Champions League: Knocked out to Qarabag FK before I took over

UEFA Europa League: Knocked out to Rosenborg before I took over

UEFA Europa Conference League: The guys had already played 7 games before I took charge and I managed to get them to the 2nd knockout round, beating PAOK in the first round, before losing to Nice.

Top Goalscorer: The squad I inherited was pretty poor in terms of depth but one of the first moves I made was to put 19 year old striker Nikola Iliev straight into my starting 11. He repaid me with 21 goals in 43 games

Most Assists: Wingers have always done well for me and this season was no different with winger Martin Smolenski contributing 14 assists

Highest Ave. Rating: We were really solid at the back for the first 11 games of my run and that surely helped defender Mateusz Wieteska on his way to the highest average rating

Most POTM: Those performances didn’t go unnoticed and he also picked up 7 player of the match awards

International: Not a lot has happened on this front; still at Australia and we have won all 7 of our World Cup qualifiers

Next Season Plan: Seems a shame to leave after only 5 months in charge, but not much point sticking around when we have ticked off both the league and the cup. There is quite a few interesting jobs around at the moment so it will be interesting to see where I end up

On my attempt last year, I was manager of Boca we were in the semi final of the Libatadores(sp) we were up against or biggest rivals for the league, we always struggled against them. A couple of weeks before our Semi final i noticed their manager had left. So I applied, got the job beat my old club Boca and won the final 🤣🤣🤣 imagine if that was real life I'd be hunted down and killed by the Boca Ultras 🤣

  12. Guangzhou Evergrande Season 2024

    image.jpeg.c185aad66467979ecc781d6e13739922.jpeg

After finishing 2nd last season, I was determined to go one better this season. We made a few transfers but I could not shape the squad the way I wanted after failing FFP last season, so our registration numbers were cut :( I hoped we could win the league, we were made the favourites but after failing last season I was a bit dubious. I wanted to win the league and the champions league as soon as possible then get out of China, I dont mind a league with crazy registration rules as long as I can shape the squad the way I want.

Here are my transfers I made during the summer

    20201204215409_1.jpg.f28e6af7ebc773d1d247a74dc1e6bb68.jpg

Pick of the transfers would be George Puscas

    George Puscas

34 goals on 37 games was a good return for the Romanian in his first season.

    League

We led the league early on, and we were neck and neck with Bejing Guoan we were top by goal difference. When we dropped point so did they. 11 games to go and both teams were neck and neck, we played each other in our next match, this was a real must win game. Then this happened.

    Spoiler

    20201204220823_1.jpg.95f7926e7197c4c42da324afe15a00ea.jpg

I was gutted. I thought that the league was over

But we did not let this defeat ruin our season, we rallied and won all of our remaining games, Beijing had the upper hand but they did not take advantage, they started dropping points and we claimed the title ending up 8 points clear. STEP 1 complete, we just needed the champions league and I could get out of here.

    AFC Champions League

We made it all the way to the final without really being challenged. I had my bags packed ready to leave the country whatever happened in this final. We were about to fail FFP again for the second season running and I had enough, if we did not win, I was hoping for a move to South Korea. In the final we faced our old foes Beijing Guoan. After beating them to the league they would be out for revenge, and we have always struggled against them. The final was easier than I thought, we battered them in the first leg beating them 1-0 they didnt even register a shot on our goal. The second leg we played a bit more cautiously and were satisfied with a 1-1 draw. STEP 2 complete and I was so glad I could get out of China.

    STAR PLAYER

Our best player was a tough one with a few candidates, our right back Browning Tyias just pipped the Avr rating and helped out with 16 assists. Our striker George Puscas was our top scorer he would have been an obvious choice but I will go for our Russian Wing Wizard, Anton Miranchuck, 28 goals and 8 assists from the AML position. The team felt it when he did not play.

    What Next?

As I said earlier, whatever happened after the Champions League final, I was out of China. Luckily I did what was needed and I can move on without regret. I am just about to resign, there are no appealing jobs vacant at present, with South Korea, Australia, Mexico and Argentina leagues loaded I would probably prefer Mexico or Argentina but I will wait to see what jobs come up. I may need to add a couple of leagues if nothing comes up soon. I have not stepped into international management yet so it would be nice to get my first job and have a crack at a tournament. The African Nations starts next month, hopefully there are a few shock exits and I can land a good African national job.

I never did get to see my 15 year old potential superstar I signed from my old club Supersport UTD, he doesn't join until July next year :(

@MShing Congrats on the new job, after initially finding it frustrating the massive gulf in quality between the foreign players and the Chinese lads makes it really fun. Anyone who is pacey or strong just dominates physically, I had Salamon Rondon up front with 16 strength and there wasnt a single chinese defender he couldnt bully.

Thanks mate. Just finding building my squad frustrating at the moment. With registration restrictions, I can only register 3 foreigners and I can only sign 2 players over 21 and there are not any half decent Chinese players who are under 21.

Stupidly I had arranged 3 transfers months before i had any news of our failure in ffp one of them was my quality 15 now 16 year old midfielder I signed for Supersport. Who looks like he will not be able to be registered

  14. Guangzhou Evergrande Season - 2023

    image.jpeg.634229d5aa5ca228e52eb7f7983a703f.jpeg

So after I left Supersport UTD in South Africa I spent a couple of months unemployed, a number of unattractive jobs became available in China, but with limited budgets I just didnt fancy them. Then Guangzhou sacked their manager, one of the larger teams in the Chinese League, applied and got the job. They gave me a nice transfer kitty of £120 and boy did I need it!

The squad was a miss match of below average Chinese players and expensive overpaid, old foreign superstars. With a limit of 5 foreigners allowed in the match day squad, we had 7 foreigners in our squad, I couldn't really sell the ones I didn't need and sign a couple more because we can only register 6 foreign players per season. I tried to sign a few chinese players to fill gaps in our squad, but even most of those were overpriced .

I took over about halfway through the season, we were 5th when I took over and the board wanted a title challenge, I stupidly told them I could do better than that and pretty much guarantee the title, I did this before I had a good look at the playing squad and regret that decision. When I took over we were around 7 points behind the league leaders Bejing Guoan. I didnt fancy our chances but we hit the ground running and went on a good run and started to slowly claw back their lead. in the end we finished 2nd, 6 points away after a poor final day loss.

    Next Season

What for next season? Well we need to make a good start to the league campaign, hopefully we can improve upon 2nd place. The board want us to reach the final of the champions league, it may be achieveable will have to wait and see on that one.

I think I may have stumbled upon a bug this season, when I took over mid season, I seemed to have inherited the previous managers promises. One promise was to strengthen players in attack. I didnt make this promise and when the promise expired at the end of the season I had 6 or 7 players come to me asking for a transfer saying I had broken a promise. I have reported it in the bugs forum, they said it doesnt sound right but asked for a save before I took over the job which I didnt have so, not sure much will come of it unless other people report it too. So it looks like I have quite a big rebuilding job with half the team wanting to leave and overpaid ageing foreign stars.

Also I had the below news item pop up end of the season :(

That doesn't sound right, do you have a save from before you get the job? If so can you upload it to the SI cloud and we'll take a look, details on how to provide saves below

Vikeologist's 2054 Kedah Malaysian Cup Cup Report

    image.jpeg.bef962bf7a7a5db027ef08ac211f9664.jpeg

My last 2 cups turned out to be fairly easy to obtain.

After taking over Hibs in time for the League Cup final,  I obtained my last in Malaysia.

Malaysia has 2 cups, but the Malaysia Cup is at the end of the season, and I took over half ay through the group stage, meaning I had no league matches to bother with.

Kelah are one of the 3 big sides in Malaysia. It wasn’t easy. I struggled to find players worth putting on the sub’s bench. We had players on international duty early on. Basically the team wasn’t great.

The final was a tense affair. 0-0 until midway through the second half, when we finally scored, and then when they abandoned their defensive approach, almost instantly scored a 2nd on the counter. However they pulled one back to make the end of the match tense.

Still, who cares? The domestic side of the challenge is now complete, quickly and painlessly.

No top scorers or MVPs. I was only in charge for 8 matches, all of them the cup. Forget knowing the names of the players. I got the name of the team wrong when I started typing out the report. Twice. If I want to change the name of the city to Kelah, I should be allowed to.

I do have an African job, South Africa obtained after the 2054 World Cup, which means that in just  few short months I have the ACON, and the chance to complete the challenge. I’m adding the South African league back, which if worse comes to worse means that some African nations should eventually become playable again. I need to have at least one nation loaded, and by next summer, if the challenge goes that far, it will be just S Africa.

I have enough bad history with the ACON to be very far from confident.

My chances of topping the hall of fame have taken a big hit, as I have now fallen from 2nd to 3rd, overtaken by a Dominic Tadesco, the manager of Real Madrid, who has won the Champions League 9 out of the last 12 seasons there.

    Season 4 (2023/2024)

I decided to leave Willem II mid-June, since the only way onward from my title win was downward and I had achieved more than my goal. After a few months of unemployment - quite disappointing really, I  thought I would have a job by the end of the summer - I managed to get an interview (and eventually a job offer) at both Sunderland and Crystal Palace. After comparing both sides, the choice was actually quite easy...

    spacer.png

The simple fact that the wage budget and the transfer budget were five times as high as they were for Sunderland made it an easy call. I took over with Crystal Palace in 11th place, promising I could guide them to a Play-off position (mid-table was asked for, but I really wanted the job, so I promised to over-deliver), which meant I had to finish at least top 6. The team was actually pretty decent, only severely lacking in the defensive department (only one half-decent left back... really guys?). I managed to get to the January transfer period winning 5 out of 8 matches, which was more than I expected. In January I managed to get the team balanced, mostly through some loans, as I wanted to wait signing players until the summer, hoping to get a promotion and thus attracting better players.

As the season went on, the performances kept getting better, and I found myself in the Play-off positions with a few weeks to go. Due to the fact that the top 2 (West Ham & Norwich) started dropping points, thus throwing away their impressive lead, I started hoping that maybe, just maybe, direct promotion was a possibility. Three matches to go, this was the league and my remaining matches:

    735715671_CrystalPalace-3MatchesbeforeEoS.png.d79cf08d428f237744638699245bf7f1.png

    612300138_CrystalPalace-Remaining3Matches.png.437feac9307afb856a28440c8dc6e12f.png

I had it all in my own hands - win three times and the title (!) was ours... Sadly, West Ham completely destroyed me in the first match ; luckily, Norwich also dropped points, which meant I still had a shot at direct promotion. I managed to beat Norwich 3-2, with a hattrick from my new striker, thus ensuring my place in the Premier League next season through direct promotion! With a transfer budget of 50 million, I'm very curious to see if I can keep the side up next season - nobody is really expecting me to, but I've always liked a challenge.

Last update, I forgot to mention I took over the command of a nation as well, so here's introducing...

    spacer.png

I took over in June 2022, after Venezuela lost in the World Cup Play-offs to Canada. I wasn't expecting much from the team, but they have actually got some pretty decent wingers and strikers. The defense is below par, but luckily they have two decent goalkeepers, so that balances out. My first official match was in October 2023, playing in the World Cup Qualifiers. I've played 6 matches so far in that competition, winning 3, drawing 2 and only losing to Brazil.

Then, in June 2024, the Copa America started. I was drawn a tough group with a.o. Brazil, Colombia and USA. Since the top 4 of each group qualified for the Quarter Finals, I managed to scrape through, finishing 4th behind the aforementioned three countries. In the Quarter Final, I got the #1 of the other group, which was *surprisingly* Mexico, and not Argentina. The match against Mexico ended in a draw after a fairly even match, so penalties had to decide... I was the lucky one, so that meant a place in the Semi Finals!

The Semi Final saw me facing Argentina. I was sure my luck was running out by now, so already accepting defeat I started the match. Completely baffled, I paused after 16 minutes of game time to take a look at the scoreboard. My xG was 0.70, and the score was... 3-0... I switched to defensive immediately, managed to even extend the lead to 5-0 in the second half, finishing 5-1 after 90 minutes...

The Final! Brazil, once again... I had faced them twice already, losing 0-1 and 0-2, so not that bad. However, in both matches, I had almost zero chances, so I changed my strategy, hoping for just one thing: a penalty shoot-out. Not the most attracting tactic for a final, but hey, if it works... The match itself was horrible. I had just 2 shots on target, versus 9 for Brazil. However, their xG was quite low (0.71), so I think that's what save me... I managed to hold on to the draw until the end of extra time, which meant it was time for... penalties! Gabriel Jesus took the first... and missed! I was already half dancing, until my winger struck the post, bringing everything even again. At 5-5, it was Real Madrid's Casemiro who failed from the spot, meaning my central defender Mejias had the winner on his boot.. And he struck it home! We won! Copa America 2024, the first ever for Venezuela...

Never expected this to happen, not my goal at all when joining Venezuela... So, of course, I left straight after the final, which is where I am whilst writing this post. The European Championship is almost over, which means a lot of international jobs are going to become available... I'm going to try and land one of those for sure!

Would you be tempted to jump ship from Palace if an established premier league team came available or would you be loyal and see how well that squad could do?

  18. Supersport United Season 2022/2023

After winning the League and Cup double last season, this season was all about winning the Champions League. We made a few signings to bolster our squad

    Spoiler

As I spent most of this season on holiday during the league, I took control of most the cup matches and all of the champions league matches, I dont have much to report for this season.

    Knockout Cup - Winners

Nedbank Cup - Knocked out in Round 1 on pens

    MTN8 Cup - Winners

    CAF Champions League

    Spoiler

We won most cups at a canter, we did not really get challenged. The same happened in the Champions League until the final. It was an edgy affair, our opponents had a disallowed goal in the first half for offside. We shortly went ahead but we could not hold onto that lead for long as one of their midfielders lost his man and scored a 30 yard screamer. It remained 1-1 for the rest of the game and went to a dreaded penalty shoot out. Both teams scored their first 4 penalties, we scored our fifth, and they missed theirs. We had done it first time of asking. This was such a relief this meant I could move on which was good as my contract was due to expire at the end of the season.

    League

    Spoiler

We won the league again, we did not need to and I will give our Ass Man Tim Cahill all the credit.

    Whats Next?

I am not sure what is next or where to move to. I have the Australian, China and South Korea Leagues loaded, there are no available jobs at the moment. I will wait for my contract to expire at Supersport Utd and see where the wind takes me

Rep tends to go up with more coaching badges anyway and then will increase with some combination of club reputation (I'd guess SuperSport are 3 star as with my save) and then league reputation and performance in said league (plus continental and cups). Given the league is 2.5 star itself and you won it, combined with a reasonably reputable club and a few coaching badges I don't think it's that fast. I'd say it's moreso a by-product of being able to land higher reputation jobs from the offset rather than increasing faster than expected.

You may be right, I was just surprised how high it was after 1 season
