i rarely if ever slate the top tier players for bad performance. its not even something i think of doing to the lower end players. same with individual praise even when recommended by ass-man. avoids players getting annoyed when a mate is singled out. you might want to ease off on telling them when they are playing badly and maybe praise a couple and VVD over the next few games in your end of game teamtalk

Yeah, thanks. I’ve never had this problem before on fm, something I’ve noticed on all my saves since last update. Also worries me that VVD fell out of his social group, hopefully iaf we keep winning it will get better.

  2. Having some trouble with Virgil van Dijk first season. Season is going well, 1st in the league after 9 games (8-1-0). However my ass man told me VVD didn't like a few of my team talks, even tough no one reacted badly to them (I think it was that I criticized Mané after he was terrible a few games). Then it said under VVD's 'happiness' (on his player profile) that he 'Opposes the manager despite good support overall from the dressing room.' And now he's fallen out of his social group (I think he was in 'group A') and is now in 'others' (with Minamino, Adrian and Hoever). But he's still gone from 'Highly influential' to 'Team leader' so I don't know what's up... Any ideas what's wrong, or what I could do? His 'overall happiness (under the team's happiness page) is listed as 'Delighted' with no negatives.

With Wilson, he seems to get injured almost straight after he comes back. My biggest problem now, is my head physio saying players could do with a rest. Trent, Robertson, VVD, Gomez, Fabinho, Thiago, Mane AND Salah. That leaves me with 3 first team regulars.

Bobby now has 10 goals to his name. Top of the league by 4 points without a draw or defeat in all competitions (only draw was a friendly). Next match? Away to second place City (who I have already dumped out the league Cup).

Planning a few changes in January with Karius, Origi and hopefully Shaq and Adrian on the way out.

Yeah I usually rotate the team a lot to avoid fatigue, and Trent is not often able to play 90 min.
But glad to hear you’re doing well, I just played City away myself (2-2) hopefully you can put some distance between them and you now.

Little update with regards to Firmino. Since switching from a False 9 to a Dlf on support, he now has 6 goals in 4 games. Mane is scoring more now too.

I can't give Harry Wilson any game time though. That guy is always injured.

Glad to hear it, nice work! Often it’s just one small tweak that’s needed.

Yeah I’m struggling with injuries, but not just on Wilson but on every one. In september and I think we’ve had +10 injuries so far. In training, in matches, on international, all over and all the time. Get one player back, another gets injured. Keita and Robertson returned after 3 weeks out (on in training, one in match) and next day Trent and Shaq get’s injured on international.

Speaking of Firmino, what role do you guys give him? He is playing as a F9 in my current tactic and, if I'm being totally honest, the tactic is working well.

Salah has 8 and Trent has 6 assists so far. But Bobby has been largely, well, meh. No goals, probably no assists.

But, if I change the role, will it effect the team performance?

I often use him as a lone striker, DLF (s), with PI's 'close down more' (along with all of my front line). My current Liverpool save is the first one in several months so can't say exactly how he's been playing but as far as i remember, and so far this save, he's doing ok but not scoring that many, and a few assists. But in my tactic, as well as irl, he's not supposed to be the main goal scorer but someone who puts pressure on the opposition defense into mistakes and then my wingers/CM's score goals.

  6. Hi. I was just wondering about my ass mans tactical advice, if it's a bug or just strange?

I'm managing Liverpool, first season, and use a Positive, short passing, - tactic that I've used before on other saves that has worked well. But so far before every game, even against Brighton (A) and West Ham (H) my ass man tells me we should change to Cautious or Defensive. Even tough the odds clearly has us as favorites (we're Liverpool, we're supposed to challenge for the title). I've played many season with Liverpool on FM20 and I've never seen this before, usually my ass man thinks I should go attacking instead of positive. The ass man is Klopp's former ass man, Peter Krawietz, who has good stats, especially in tactical knowledge.

This is my first save with Liverpool since the last update, but I've never seen something like this before. Is it something wrong with my tactic that I've overlooked do you think or is this more likely just a strange bug/bad advice?

There are plenty of players who can play up top. Salah, Jota, Minamino. Don't you still have Brewster?

Don't spend the cash because you have it. Give it until January and then look at your squad again.

Thanks. Yeah I was considering Salah as well, but unsure that the others are good enough in that role? Brewster is on loan but could be recalled id needed.
But yeah maybe I’ll wait to january at least, as you say I don’t really want to spend cash needlessly.

Edit: Brewster couldn’t be recalled unfortunately.

  8. Hi! I'm start of first season and need some transfer advice. We've sold Lovren and Lallana and Origi went out on loan (to get rid of his high wages for a back up) and so far I've brought in Jota, Tsimikas, Milenkovic and Esposito. I'm rather pleased with those transfers, I like to keep it rather realistic first season regarding transfers.

However, with Origi gone we only have Esposito as back up to Firmino and although he has great potential I'm not sure he'll be ready first season and was thinking of getting another striker. I have 69 mil euro to spend and 338K/w wages left in the budget. Was looking at both Dybala and Martinez as possible targets but doesn't feel so realistic and they'll be star players rather than rotation players for Bobby. Plus that would strain our economy a bit to much.

So I was wondering if you have some tips on decent strikers, not to expensive, not star players, but who are ready to step in and do a good job when Bobby needs a rest or if he's injured?

    Thanks.

    Edit: I miss Danny Ings..!

This second tactic looks like a decent starting point for a more possession-oriented style compared to the first one (which for its part looks sort of undefined).

However, the 532 as a formation is not optimally suited for possession styles. It can work to some degree, but if you want a possession-oriented tactic using a 3/5-man back-line, then 5212 would be a better choice IMHO.

Anyway, I would avoid having 2 playmakers, especially so close to each other, simply because it can slow your play down too much, especially when coupled with the already possession-friendly in-possession TIs.

For basically the same reason, I would not insist on the Work ball into box TI either.

Thanks for the input, that makes sense, I’ll see I can get a ”home”-tactic working.

But at the end of the day, given that you are 1st in the league anyway, maybe changing your current (first) tactic could be a risky idea. Because even though your home record is slightly worse than away, you are still undefeated. Therefore, think twice before making any changes.

Yeah fair point, even though I can’t really say what’s making my first tactic work. But I do need a backup against the weaker teams that just park the bus.

    Thanks again.

  10. I'm in my first season with Lazio and so far we've been doing pretty good, 1st in Serie A after 13 games (beating Juve, Napoli and Inter). However most of those victories has come away from home an it's probably due to my counter-attacking tactic which is working well against more attacking teams, but at home (or against weaker teams) we've been struggling as you can see below.

So I was hoping I could get some help in setting up a tactic I can use at home against the "lesser" teams to avoid all those draws when I should be winning.
Below is my home and away record and my current tactic.

I don't want to create a tactic that's too far off from my current one, but any help would be appreciated.

Now my favourite part of the game, planning carefully how to get the best out of the truckload of players we have, and who to sell on, and also which prospects and bargains we can get to make the team stand up for European football.

    Looking good! Nice work.
What we’ll be your goal for next season? Challange for CL?

Are you on team no signings in first pre-season too?

Almost, I thought the squad looked pretty good and since I’ve never managed them before I wanted to get to know the squad first before signing anyonen for the starting XI. I did however sign som promising youths, but they’re 16-18 year olds.

  13. Update on my Lazio save, slow progress due to life in general but going well so far 11 games into Serie A. So far we are undefeated but we've struggled against "weaker" teams while beating Inter and Napoli with ease so 2nd in the league so far, behind Juve. And our 12th game is against Juventus, who's been unstoppable so far, with Ronaldo getting 21 goals in 11 games.

4pts behind Juve before the game, and even tough I knew we'd keep our 2nd place even if we lost I'd didn't want them to run away with the league already in november. So was hoping for a draw, but went for a positive approach as I've had in the games against Inter and Napoli. And it went really well!

    Udinese Mid Season Update

It has been a successfull spell up till December, we have exceeded expectations, with just a couple of unlucky losses. We outplayed Sampdoria and conceded a goal with 5 minutes to spare from a huge defensive mistake by Becao. A couple of monster games against Inter and Juventus, we really played well, and have some difficulty against smaller teams.

Looking good! Udinese has been really great in my save, 3rd in serie A after 12 games (behind my Lazio in 2nd).

I was tempted to end the save at the end of this season if we had won the league and champs league, but as couldn't wrestle the title back from Inter, I am 100% carrying on and getting that Serie A title back. To win 2 champs league has been way more than I expected, but all the more reason why I love this team and love this save.

Congratulations on your second CL, great job! To bad about the league though but glad to here that means you’ll keep the save going 👍

Chasing the 4th title. I won it 3 years in a row from season 3-5.

Ah nice, good work! Hopefully number 4 is on it’s way then.
Juve has been unstoppable so far on my save, scoring 3,8 goals/game.

He got sacked at some point though so it stopped coming up.

    Serves him right ;)

  17. Several players now being bullied into thinking they should be at "bigger clubs", Scaloni here being a jerk. Correa isn´t even 1st choice in my team, he´ll hardly be 1st choice in a "bigger club".

Haven´t had enough time to play lately so the season is going a bit slow, and so are our results at the moment after a good start. Hoping to turn it around against Lecce and Parma now before some tougher opponents in October/November.

Yea we have turned a corner, and we haven't lost a game since that picture, 15 unbeaten in the league and chasing down Inter who just haven't stopped winning.

Glad to hear it! Chasing your third league title now?

I have been managing the wages with luck and hopefully some skill :D. They can  be demanding especially as alot of the big clubs are constantly sniffing round, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and negotiate the best deal, Tonali is my only player on 200k or more. Alot of the time I can hold off on contracts by telling them how influential they are, which has worked, or get Tonali my captain to talk to them which has worked a treat, though this doesn't always work with captains, Tonali just must have that special touch.

Yes luck is always important ;) Seems like Tonali will be my main target next year, and probably a LWB. Lulic has been filling in at LWB so far and is pretty decent but need a proper 1st choice for next year.

    Hello,

Looking to start a save with Juventus, is it worth doing so? Got a feeling it might be too easy but I just can't seem to get into many FM20 saves, is it a decent longevity save?

I haven’t done a save with them myself but looking at the team I think it could be fun to try and rebuild the squad, replace the Ronaldos and Higuains with som promising youths and then conquer Europe.
