So the summer for season 7 is done, I said there would be a reshuffle and change in tactics, and there certainly has been.

    Here are the transfers.

    We have been very busy.

The outs 1st - Gouiri has been a great servant for me and was vital in our champs league win in season 3, but the last season and a half he was really poor, Chelsea came in with a big offer, and I managed to negotiate the deal up abit so took it. Ajer and Onguene left as I was revamping the defence, and Van de Beek just didn't fit in.

So the the ins - Konate and Vinicius Junior were both transfer listed by request so jumped at the chance, especially Vinicius Junior who had scored alot of goals for Arsenal. Pulisic wasn't getting any game time so was abit of a steal. Kubo and Manual are back ups and to fill the squad out. Cerri my biggest transfer is a regen rb, who will takeover from Lazarri.

So now to the new tactic, we have played a 5-3-2 wb for 6 seasons and after losing our title I felt a change was needed, from some of the transfers you can probably guess what way I'm going, but here's my 2 new tactics, with the 1st one being the main one.

I'm really excited to use my new look team and hopefully win alot more trophies, however we have had a shocking start to the new season.

The losses to Inter and Juventus mean we are already playing catch up and sit 10th after 5 games. Hopefully once everything has gelled we will kick on, I will make these changes work.

Some nice transfers, but yeah always hard in the begining to change tactic and style but you have some pretty good players so shouldn’t be too big of a transition. Hope you’ve turned it around by now.

A question about wages, I saw that your new RB regen has 100k/w, how have you been managing the rest of the squads wages? I find that players are demanding way to high wages on fm20. Even young unproven squad players demand 80-90k/w. Makes it hard to maintain sensible wages over time.

Yea update in the thread, and keep us posted.

Will try, but to play through a season takes several weeks for me unfortunatley because of lack of time. Did however play the Inter game (away). A comfortable 2-0 win for us, they hade 1 shot on goal and we hade 11.
Juventus looks impossible though but not really expecting to beat them first season.

Yea Lazio is a fun save and I have loved my save.

3-5-2 or 5-3-2 however you lay it out definitely suits the team, and it’s what I have been using for 6 seasons, only now am I going away from that and just refreshing the squad and tactics.

So if your going for 3 at the back as well, then definitely need cb’s to build a solid foundation for that formation. Radu and Acerbi are good but they are ageing, and a couple of their other cb aren’t that good in my opinion. Milenkovic from Fiorentina is class and I would highly recommend, I have him in my team, plus I used him in a Man Utd save.

The wing backs will be massively important in that formation, Lazarri is brilliant for the right hand side, but the left hand side would probably need improving, so I would try get someone for lwb.

Tonali is always a good player to get, Italian young and will nail down the cm role for a good 10 seasons.

Thanks! Yeah Lazio seems like an exciting team.

Yeah I’ve bought both Tonali and Milenkovic on other saves and I like them both. Unfortunately they were a bit to expensive this first transfer window but I’ll try to get them next year, for now I’ve just brought in some youths to develop.

Will try to update how it goes. So far I’ve played Sampdoria (a) and Torino (h) and won both. Next one is Inter (a), first real challange. Been playing an attacking style but will try a more conservative approach against Inter.

So heading into season 7, and I feel with our defensive issues and the fact we lost our league title, it is the perfect time for abit of a reshuffle, in terms of players, staff and tactical. So expect a busy summer window and some tactical changes in my next update.

I just started a save with Lazio (my first in Italy) and have a few days left of the transfer window. The squad seems pretty well-rounded, no big issues as far as I can see. Just brought  in some youngsters for the future.
Just wondering, are there any advice or tips you could give me on players to bring in? Will probably be playing a 3-4-1-2 or a 3-5-2 since it seems that’s what suits the squad best.
Looking forward to my first try in Italy and especially with Lazio.

  5. I’ve just finished my first season, won the league over Arsenal by 4pts, and CL, beat At. Madrid on penalties in the final.

Now trying to build my squad for the next season. Need a good option at AML and maybe something more creative in midfield. Was thinking about getting Grealish since he can play both AML and MC and he’s english. But now Chelsea made an offer for sergej milinković-savić and I don’t want him to go there (obviously) so now I’m thinking I’ll maybe sell Gini and Keita and bring in SMS and maybe Jadon Sancho on AML. However that would be rather expensive I guess. Keita and Gini wasn’t great last season and Gini wants a new contract, but since he’s 29 I’m not sure plus he’ll probably want much higher wages.

What would you do? Any other ideas or options?

    Cheers.

im the same im on second season now an can see the potential of Hoever alredy so im thinking of moving trent into midfield but his performances at wing back are far to good alredy got himself onto the icon list. it would be a gamble for me to do it cant decide.

Looking at Trent and his ppm's, I'm actually tempted to look at a Regista or some form of playmaker.

Did you give it a go? How did it work out?

I personally would prefer Mane as an IW on support duty in AML, but I would also set up those behind him a bit differently.

Assuming you change Mane into IW on support (following my suggestion), this is how I would set up the left side:

    IWsu

            CAR or BWMsu

    WBat (Robertson)

Thanks, I think I'll try this setup for a while, but would you then go with the MCR as a B2B?

Generally speaking, it's always more tricky to create clear-cut chances against tight and deep defenses (just as it is in real-life football). However, when it comes to good chances, you should not rely exclusively on official match stats, because they can sometimes be misleading. A lot of really good chances are often not counted even as half-chances in match stats, so you need to watch highlights in order to get the real picture.

Yeah I try to always watch matches with comprehensive highlights, the problem is often that I don't know exactly how to adjust properly to what I'm seeing. So I appreciate your help.
Also, I was wondering what the difference between the F9 and the DLF is, the F9 roams more freely?

Ok so the tactic would look something likes this now, thanks again.
Btw, does it matter in any way what side the BPD plays on regarding my wingbacks, on on attack on on support (with TAA who often loses 1on1 situations against opposition wingers)?

I for example would set up this Liverpool team just a bit differently, but it does not mean that your setup (tactic) is bad.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, appreciate any help.
Is there a specific area that you think I should focus on? I was thinking about changing the carrilero to a B2B to get more penetration from midfield, or changing the AML to a IW or IF to get more players in the box. I seem to need more goalscoring threats but I don’t really know how. However changing the AML would require changing other roles as well on the left flank. What would you suggest?

Do I need to change the TI and maybe go wider in possession?

My tactic worked well first half of the season, but now teams are playing more defensive and cautious against me so that may of course explain my problem creating chances.

Btw, who is this guy Katterbach in LB? Is he better than Robertson?

No he’s my 18 year old backup, Robertson was a bit tired, with high injury risk so he was just resting.

  9. Hi.

I've tried to create a tactic after reading a lot here about balance and about roles/duties but I'm having a lot of problems creating chances and scoring, and even when I do manage to score I often concede a goal late, often after the opposition's winger/fullback sprints through my defence and score. The last 10 of my 30 goals conceded have come in the last 10 minutes of the game.

This is my tactic I'm using. My players have good morale och great cohesion and they are familiar with the tactic, but they are really struggling. I don' really have certain style of football I want to play, attacking but I don't really care about possession or style. But I need help to create chances and score, and at the moment Salah is my goalscoring threat but I would like to get Mane (who usually play AML) and Firmino to score more but how do I do that while still maintaining balance in attack? Thanks!

Also attaching the match stats from my last game.

    Liverpool-Leicester Stats.png

  10. Yeah hard to say without the tactic but I had the same problem but was playing ’work ball into box’ and ’mixed crossing’. Made a new tactic and some of the changes (among others) where ’early crosses’ and ’low crosses’ and have been scoring som nice goals from crosses since then.

But also, sometimes mabye it’s from lack off support in the box. When I was frustrated with the exact same thing I started to look at what options the winger/wingback had in the box. Sometimes there was only one of my players in there and 4-5 defenders. So maybe they are waiting on the ball cause there’s no one to cross to, in which case the best option maybe is to knock it at the defender and get a corner?

    Steal imo

Depending on his age I would say and his wage demands. But at that price and depending on his age that would be a steal and also have resale value to and with him having a use if you managed to sign him back seems no brainer

    Thanks both of you.
It’s first season (first transfer window) so he’s only 26. Don’t really understand why he’s listed but seems to be by request.

Im getting injuries all over the place atm after updating to latest patch

Yeah same here, but I usually delegate team training to Pep Lijenders so maybe I have to take control more to minimise injuries

Edit: 5 days later and now I’ve lost Trent for 4 weeks and Salah for 6 weeks.

  13. Ok haven’t really played since FM 15/16 but just bought FM 19 and started my usual Liverpool save.

So far we’re doing ok, 2nd in the league in dec with 2pts behind City and won my CL group ahead of Bayern (beat them 3-0 away and 2-0 at home). Brought in some young talents and let go of Moreno, Sturridge and Lallana.

However having trouble with injury risk updates vs players demanding first team football. Every time I’m told a player has high/v.high injury risk I’ll rest them a game to avoid injuries (still picking up a few though). But now some of them are starting to complain ’cause they’re not starting every game (even rotation players). Anyone else having this issue? How risky is it to play them with high/v.high injury risk? I can’t be having all these conflicts with my players just because I don’t sant to loose them to injuries.

  14. I don't think it makes much or any difference. If you react by putting the player on more direct, the assman will just find another to say needs to play more direct, whatever the assman's ability. Having said that, I always go through his report at half time and if I'm not doing as well as I like, I will tweak player instrucs to follow his advice. I think it's just a placebo though!

    Thanks!

I usually don't listen to tactical advice from my Ass man, he's often more spot on regarding team talks though.

  15. I have a question about tactic familiarity. When I for example play a high tempo game with short passes my Ass Man might say that *one of my players* is used to play a more direct game, or at a lower tempo. This will happen even if the team is fluid in the tactic. Is this something that will change over time? And is it something that affects the game in any way? Should I mind and maybe switch to another player?
