That is indeed a risk, but it's something that you can at least try to avoid if not avoid completely. Have multiple layers of players to try and recycle the ball at every opportunity is what I go for. It's not 100% but it certainly keeps defensive issues down to reasonable levels. Jimbokav1971 Posted April 2, 2017 Author Share Posted April 2, 2017 What determines the result of a penalty? I have 2 senior GK's at the moment and both of them are obviously set to take penalties. GK #1 has scored 6 penalties from 6 attempts. GK #2 has scored 2 penalties from 7 attempts. Now I have commented previously about my thinking that the free-kick attribute is mistaken for the handling attribute when the game is calculating the result, (it's in the same position on the player profile screen, and if I were to use that for penalties then it's rushing out that should be used instead, (and I am much less confidant about that as a statement, which in itself weakens my position on the free-kick situation). Over and above the above theories however, I think that there are significant "modifiers" to the calculations and the biggest of this is morale. It's absolutely enormous. Looking at the above pictures, it's easy to see that (32c) Joe (USA) (F.Pro) * is unhappy because I have blocked multiple transfers. He has 3 years left on his contract, (with an option for 3 more on top of that), so to be honest I have little reason to sell him. He's kept 10 clean sheets in 16 games so his performances have been ok if unspectacular, and I personally think that his saved penalties, (because they are saved rather than missed), is the only issue I have with him. My thinking is that if I keep playing him, then he might get a goal, (or even a clean sheet might be enough), and his morale will improve, but every time he either misses a penalty or concedes a goal, then it's actually another nail in his morale coffin rather than the boost that I am looking for. The reason that I am blaming his morale for missing 5 of 7 penalties is because previously he has performed well in this area when morale wasn't an issue. (32c) Joe (USA) (F.Pro) * has scored 11 goals in 69 appearances at a rate of a goal every 6.27 games. (24b) Ben Óli (Amb) * has scored 59 goals in 367 appearances at a rate of a goal every 6.22 games. The comparison is reasonable over the course of their careers and if (32c) Joe (USA) (F.Pro) * had scores all of his penalties this season, (as Ben has), then his ratio would be a goal every 4.3125 games. When you consider that he often plays in the "dirt-trackers", the weakened side where we are resting the starting XI for a big League game or a European game, then his performance is perhaps even more surprising. I am probably going to look at selling him if I can't get his morale up, and if I don't sell him then I might have to look at an outfield player taking pens while he is on the pitch, (which I REALLY don't want to do). He also has 126 club goals in 709 appearances. This totals him at 173 career goals, however he is now at the tender age of 35. I am currently improving his freekick by training. Maybe I should focus on penalty ? So far, it is 1 penalty on 2 attempts and 0 FC on 20 attempts in 10 matchs ! Any GK scoring at any time will be a FAR bigger deal in FM18 than it has been for a long while. Come on lads, tell us if your GK scores in FM18. leonavich Posted December 9, 2017 Share Posted December 9, 2017 Finished another season and he had a pretty good run, scoring 14 goals from penalties an free kicks. He also added one more to his National tally to make it 48 in 253 (2 away from the reset :\). He now has 195 and is 37 years of age. I am not sure how much longer he has left, but he should carry on for at least one more season and eclipse the 200 mark. Euros are up next, so we will see how this goes I have purposefully kept our keeper stocks low hoping another Sammarinese keeper comes through. I thought there was none as I hadn't played the save for a while, but found this guy in my under 19's. He has been around for 3 seasons but has yet to play a game for the first team. He did have 42(2) games in the U19 league with a rating of 7.02 so he looks like he would be a good replacement and reasonably young enough to pick up the mantle if Canini retires in the next year or two. It is because of the storage for the field being 1 byte. @yezzko predicted it about a month a go. I think this has been resolved in later releases though. He is only 27, so there is so much potential for him to score more goals and possibly even top the list. Canini is nowhere near our best keeper and has definitely cost me many a game, but I will keep him in until he retires. I wish Bianchi came in around this year because he has already missed 3 years of potential goals and looks to be a stud in comparison (4.5* potential). If Canini retires next year at 38, Bianchi will go straight in, but if he hangs on until 40 or so, then I will look to find out youngest keeper, regardless of talent and chuck him in to go for the 1000 career games and 200+ goalkeeper goals. If this save was about having a goal-scoring keeper almost solely then I'd stick with him but this season Roberlan has already missed 17 games and I'm not going to stick with someone who's worse between the sticks until we're consistently at the top of Serie A and had the chance to seriously improve our facilities, once the standard of player coming through the youth system reaches its peak then I'll think about letting the worse player stay in goal. I'll always attempt this challenge but I'm not too committed on having one gk get as high as possible, if someone better comes through then I'll let him on penalties and free kicks until someone else comes along.
